It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a clear plastic top and pants along with clear plastic boots to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. The weather is rather wet and rainy. Very, very rainy.

It's time for the monthly Duplicity train tour. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

(cw: aphro, dub-con, violence, marking) Ice and chilly weather have begun to give way to rain instead, with overcast skies and dark clouds a seemingly constant sight. While the overabundance of rain is an annoyance and comes with the usual series of problems, such as leaky ceilings, mold growth, and gutters or storm drains overflowing, this time the rain carries with it another problem altogether. A weather advisory warning is broadcast to every device, as well as on news networks and radio. The rain, at least for a few days, is not ordinary rain. Whether you're in the Up or the Down, when the water hits clothing it eats away at it. The more water it absorbs, the more the material disintegrates until the wearer is left naked. When the rain comes in contact with skin (or is ingested) the effects seem to differ depending on where you are in Duplicity. In the Up, it's relatively harmless and merely has an aphrodisiac effect, leaving individuals feeling hot and bothered, more sociable and touchy feely. Those in the Down, however, are not so lucky. As the rain seeps through the soil from the Up, it ends up laced with toxins, causing a range of less pleasant side effects for anyone unfortunate enough to come into contact with it. Aside from the aphrodisiac, those who get caught in the rain may develop an uncomfortable, itchy rash, leaving them looking rather spotty for a few days. Those who can't resist scratching at themselves will find a newfound pleasure to the relief it brings and start to crave the feeling or sight of similar marks. In worst case scenarios, individuals will become addicted to marking themselves and others, perhaps even to the point of breaking skin. Effects may last for several hours after exposure and will stack with repeated exposures. In all cases, getting off will bring temporary relief but will not alleviate the symptoms entirely. Plastic coverings seem to be unaffected by the rain and, as word spreads, the Natives in Duplicity form a mad rush buying up umbrellas. Unless a character is lucky, they may find themselves unable to purchase - or even borrow - one. Theft of umbrellas becomes widespread in the Down, often escalating to violence, and even the Up isn't safe from thugs trying to steal and resell this suddenly hot commodity. There's another side to all of this, however. Due to the shortage of umbrellas, it isn't uncommon to see Dom/Sub pairs sharing umbrellas together. If anything, it's encouraged as a means to strengthen their bond. Enterprising Subs and Doms alike may even sell their "services" to escort individuals who would otherwise end up soaked.

(cw: substance abuse, altered states, coercion, fluids, physical body changes) A new "holistic" pharma company named SQuIRT is opening up in Duplicity and is paying a pretty penny for people to trial run their new line of supplements. These supplements are supposed to increase a person's vitality and energy levels, but the side effects are what the company is really looking out for. Some of the side effects aren't so bad and could include: Prolonged erections Lactation in both men and women Size enlargement of breasts or genitals Copious amounts of ejaculate or sexual fluids Sudden interest in previously unexplored kinks While others might find their own reaction to be a little more severe: Shrinkage of breasts, genitals, or entire being Inability to cum Uncontrollable hair growth or hair loss Temporary loss of one or more senses Spontaneous weeping Subjects must take the supplements for at least a week, otherwise they'll receive no compensation for their troubles. All new arrivals will find themselves automatically enrolled in these trials, whether they want to be or not, and expected to report to the clinic. Of course they don't have to take the supplements, but the payout is certainly enticing, especially for those unfortunate enough to be branded Submissives.

(cw: violence) Crime runs rampant in the Down as always but now, with the nastier side effects of the rain creating an ongoing problem, some unsavory types are sneaking their way into the Up where the effects aren't so hazardous. The result is an uptick in crime in places that are usually considered safe. Be careful how you carry yourself - and your valuables. Those who look like easy pickings may find their pockets empty. Cameras in public areas are being vandalized as well, while homes and businesses are seeing a rise in graffiti. Most of the graffiti is merely obscene, but some is outright seditious. Good luck explaining the latter to the authorities if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of the smaller gangs that has a presence in the Down is taking particular advantage of the rain's disruption to expand their territory into the Up. Known as the Bulldogs, their members are young men and they have a reputation for violent muggings and assaults - mainly targeting Submissives. They loiter in groups near the train and the elevator between the Up and the Down to ambush the alone and unwary. At night, they also prey on those walking home from bars or clubs who may not fully have their wits about them. In addition to beating up their victims for money, some of the Bulldogs are engaging in an informal competition over who can steal the most umbrellas - with bonus points awarded for whatever else they feel like. LIERs are worth double points by default, so watch out!

Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: Players can choose whether to assign their character as a Dominant or Submissive on this TDM for the Door Pass for March Applications only. For May's Application round, threads started here may be used as samples however they will not be eligible for a Door Pass in May. Characters will need to use a thread from May's TDM, using those Door Pass rules, for an application after the March round. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to use new TDMs with different designations for fun! All On Display

Maybe, had Luke been raised by Jedi, or spent any real time with them, he would be much better at concealing his emotions and power in the Force. But he didn't, and he isn't, and so it will be fairly apparent to any Force sensitive and maybe to any psychic in the city that a powerful, light filled presence has arrived and is fairly distressed.

The medical is invasive and distasteful, but really, it's the clothing that's much more of an issue. Luke has kept himself covered up ever since Cloud City and even moreso since the scarring the Emperor left on him. It's private and he doesn't want to share his personal traumas with the world at large.

He's mostly going to try and avoid people until he gets put out into the main exit and eventually finds the limo that's waiting to take him to his apartment.

All Aboard

Dressed in his own clothes, Luke is keenly feeling the missing presence of his lightsaber hanging from his hip. He's taking the railway journey, as 'suggested' by their hosts, learning what there is and what happens and keeping his attention as much on the people as the sights. He keeps fairly still and stoic unless given a reason to step in. Or someone approaches him, in which case he looks up with a small and genuine smile.

Rain Rain Go Away/Sticky Fingers

In the name of trying to avoid kicking the living hell out of people (and risking exposure to the rain, he's seen what that's doing), Luke is trying to calm situations where the theft and violence are brewing. Mostly, it can be solved with a careful word, backed with a nudge, suggesting that this isn't worth it. He tries to be discreet, but frankly, he doesn't know that much about 'discreet', considering he learned from Han.

He also doesn't let anyone get the upper hand, either. A simple grab of a hand coming in too close and a twist and then a push with a little bit more behind it than just what his physical push can accomplish.

The simple fact is that the train does happen to be one of the quicker, and dryer, options, which is why Padmé finds herself on it. It does appear that it is a little packed today, which isn’t overly surprising given the weather. Then again, as she finds her eyes scanning over the crowds looking to see if there is an open seat, she would hazard a guess that it is that period of time when this place draws new people in. She knows the looks that they wear, has worn them herself, as she steps further into the train. Her eyes do swing over Luke as Padmé passes, coming back a moment later as there is something vaguely familiar about him. Yet, she can’t place it, but also realizes that she has been staring. “Sorry. You reminded me of someone.”

Luke becomes aware he's being looked at with a little more intensity than most people are giving him. He looks to the woman and gives her a smile, but his expression is more surprised when she speaks. "Oh. I do?"

He looks a moment longer. She seems familiar too and it clicks fairly quickly. "Actually, you remind me of someone as well. A princess I know." He pats the seat next to him in invitation. If she'd like.

She realizes that it may should a little odd, and she certainly doesn't mean it as anything other than what it was. It's not someone that comes immediately to mind, but somehow, there is something vaguely familiar, like a half-forgotten memory. She gives a light laugh, moving to take the seat next to him.

It is a little ironic, his words, although Padmé doesn't believe that he means herself, as she had been a lot younger when she had been princess of Theed. "Hopefully that's a good thing. I'm Padmé."

He's careful not to encroach on her space. In this place, it seems especially important to make sure that those marked Submissive don't feel threatened by people they can't actually tell to back off. "It's a good thing," he promises. "Leia is one of the best people I've ever met."

Padmé. It's a nice name. "I've been told my mother's name was Padmé." Actually, now he thinks about it, this woman looks a lot like the holos he's seen of the Senator. Weird.

She makes a play at following the rules, although if push literally came to shove, Padmé would stand up for herself, or others, designations be damned. She would deal with the consequences as they came, knowing that even now it is a fine line that she walks. Too much attention, and they may well start to notice her.

"I'll take it as a compliment then." She has always tried to do the right thing, lead by example, attend to her duties. It's not always easy, mind, but Padmé does enjoy what she does- or did, given that she hardly has a senate here, let alone much of a voice.

Although his statement does make her pause. It's that an odd coincidence. "That is a little unexpected, although I've no doubt many share my name across the galaxies."

"Billions of lives and millions of cultures even in just a single galaxy," he agrees. This place is so much smaller, quieter in some ways. In a lot of ways. "It is a compliment. Princess, Senator, rebel leader, she's pretty amazing." And he loves her so very much, for all her brilliance and ferocity.

"I'm Luke." He offer his gloved, right hand.

Anakin isn't looking for a fight, but he's absolutely never in his life avoided one unless he had to. But there's a lot of fighting now, with Dominants particularly under attack. There's some small part of Anakin that doesn't feel that bad about it, because these are the people that own other people. Of course he's aware that LIES participants generally aren't like that, they didn't choose their fate. But he can't help that little dark part of himself.

He can help how he reacts to those thoughts, though. He's self-aware enough to do that, at least for the time being. So he's decided that if he can help, then he will. People don't deserve to be attacked for nothing, regardless of Anakin's knee-jerk thoughts about it.

He's not drawn to Luke's fight because Luke needs help, of course. He's drawn by the Force, the recognition of another person who is very strong in it. If there's some hint of familiarity, he can't track it. He doesn't know, after all. He knows the future, or thinks he does, but he has no idea about Luke or Leia or that Kylo is his blood relation. He still thinks he dies, but even if that were true (and it's sort of true), Padmé would already be pregnant when that confrontation on Mustafar happens. No one has told him about those particular details, probably for the better.

He gets to this alleyway fight in time to catch just one person, running in surprise from Luke's attack. Anakin barely needs to do anything to take that one out. He doesn't even look at them. He doesn't kill them, though he considers it. It would be a poor introduction, and besides, he's trying to be a better person. He really is.

"That's quite a fighting style you have there," he says, looking up at Luke from the unconscious body lying in front of him.

The problem is... Anakin doesn't know Luke from Adam, but Luke knows Anakin. He knows that Force signature better than nearly anyone else and while he's been trying to keep himself to himself and not just reach out across the city to see what he can find, this close he can't miss it. Feels as it approaches, much brighter than he ever saw it, but that darkness is there as well.

There's no attempt to hide anything he's feeling in the Force. Shock, confusion, fear, disbelief, love, grief, hope.

He's seen barely a handful of holos of Anakin Skywalker. The purge took everything and Vader carefully hunted down any and all reminders of who he had been. So he does stare a little bit, seeing the similarities, seeing the hints of not just himself but Leia in the man.

"I-" What does he say? Does he say everything? Nothing? "I learn to brawl a long time before I started training," he finally gets out.

Anakin wonders at all those feelings. Luke doesn't feel like the disciplined Jedi of Anakin's time; he wasn't raised in the Temple, after all. But Anakin, who can't possibly know that, wonders. It's hard to sort out all the feelings he gets from Luke. He's used to being recognised at home, but here...? How would this other Jedi know who he is?

This man, probably close to his own age, fights like a Jedi. Well, not exactly. But he uses techniques he couldn't possibly have learned anywhere else. Is he from the future where there are no more Jedi, save whoever survives to teach him? (Anakin might be able to guess that it's Obi-Wan just because he knows Obi-Wan lives, at least for awhile. But that might not make sense. Surely others survive. Rey found a teacher, after all.)

"You didn't grow up a Jedi," Anakin says, more a musing statement than a question. "Neither did I. Or...I wasn't found when I was very young. I like to think that didn't hinder my ability to learn."

It didn't, though the swirling emotions he'd held inside himself for so many years might have.

"But you certainly seem to have learned something from your Jedi training. That was a little...unorthodox. But getting the job done sometimes matters more than how you get there."

Anakin has become much more self-aware now that he knows so much of the future, but that doesn't stop some troubling things, like that ends justifies the means business, from lingering in his mind until he says them aloud. He doesn't mean anything dark by it, though; his word choice could use some help, probably.

There's no lightsaber at his hip (the city hadn't seen fit to provide it when it gave him his own clothes) but his hand shifts as though there should be. "I was nineteen when I first started learning. I was twenty two before I was actually trained in any real capacity."

Far too old. Too dangerous. But all they had had. It's not always a nice feeling to think back on it.

He's biting back a lot of words, a lot of thoughts. His emotions are fairly easily read, but his thoughts are more carefully guarded after his last run in with Vader. His emotions are just all over the place and thus possibly hard to get a grasp on.

Anakin catches that shift and recognises it for what it is. He does have a lightsaber at his own hip. It's one that is probably familiar to Luke. Rey has the same saber, though that's a mystery that Anakin has yet to solve. Luke having it would have also been confusing.

His eyebrows shoot up at Luke's answer.

"Ninteen?" he says, clearly shocked. He'd been too old, and he'd been a full decade younger than that when he'd begun training. But then...Luke is from after, isn't he? When the Jedi Order is gone?

When Anakin himself helps bring that to fruition. He refuses to accept that future, if he has anything to say about it.

Rey is also a grown up, though he's not entirely sure of her age. She needs more training now, and he's helping her with that. He figures this man probably does, too, as there's not much chance that only a few years is enough. He's not going to say anything like that, though. Anakin can be callous or insulting, but he doesn't want to be, not at the moment.

"I'm twenty-two now," he says. "It's hard to imagine barely being into training at this age."

He looks back at the unconscious bodies around them.

"I'd like to continue this conversation, if you would. But not here. We might be in for another fight if we stay here."

Twenty two.

Anakin is younger than Luke himself right now. Only a year and some change, but still...

"I didn't really have any formal training until I was your age." There hadn't been time, hadn't been resources, there'd just been... him. And the memory of Ben's death.

"Um, yeah, sure. I have an apartment, unless you have somewhere in mind?" Anakin presumably has his own place to live, despite that line on his neck.

All On Display

Mustang doesn’t even know why he’s here, only that someone had, just last month, come to something of his rescue from the people dragging him, collared and chained, to be flogged the very day of his arrival.

He guesses he should pay it forward and the first person to catch his eye is a young, naked man dressed only in see-through plastic rain gear. This place becomes more brazen and nonsensical by the moment.

The colonel can see the man wears no submissive mark, so he can, at least, get a ride to his home in relative comfort and peace. Still, he can help by covering him up -- Mustang’s alchemy can change the cloth to something more… opaque.

“Hello,” the Colonel says as he falls into step with the younger man. “I’m Colonel Roy Mustang, and I’m new here, too. It can be rather shocking at first, but… I was going to say that you grow used to it, and maybe you do, but I’m not there yet.” He flashes the kid a boyish grin. “You can’t be comfortable wearing that see-through garb. I’m an alchemist. I can help if you want.”

Being genuinely naked might actually be better in some ways. He's used to genuine nudity and shared barracks, though it's been a while. It was before the hand and the lightning and it wasn't in the middle of a small but busy city.

The older and taller man approaches, but there's no threat coming from him, so Luke just pauses and turns to him, cheeks flushed red with embarrassment and chin defiantly lifted despite it.

"Commander Luke Skywalker." The use of a military title just slips him back into it. And it feels safer, to just be another soldier, another pilot. "And I'd appreciate it. Thanks."

“Not a problem. I’ve been right where you are now, and it’s not a nice place to be. Just wait here,” and Mustang reaches into the jacket pocket of his uniform, bringing out his gloves to stretch out over his hands. “Just, hold on for a minute.”

He speaks under breath to himself, reciting the math behind the transmutation, and once he’s done, lays his hands on the outer poncho. A blue charge of something like electricity crackles around his hands, into the garment, and instantly, the poncho shows swirls of white growing together until the entire thing is yellow. Mustang smiles, placing his hands on the pants and then the galoshes. Stepping back, he declares, “There. How’s that?”

Luke's fingers twitch at the gloves, wishing he had his own. The synth skin is intact right now, but it tears easier than he'd like and it's easier to keep the mechanism covered up.

Then the Force screams.

It's not pain, it doesn't have pain, but whatever is being done, the Force is acutely aware of things being changed. But then the plastic shifts and colour flushes and he's not on display for everyone, so he doesn't really care what's doing it.

"Thank you." He certainly feels a lot better.

Mustang can't and doesn't hear the force's reaction, but he sees the sudden shadow of unease flicker across Luke's face.

"There's no need to thank me. I took a similar walk home a few weeks ago wearing a paper dress, so I know what it's like to be demeaned without provocation. The man had been interesting and kind enough to buy me another set of clothes. I can't afford to do the same for you, as I haven't had a chance to look for a job. But I can walk to your car, at least. As a submissive, I can't be seen up here unless a Dominant gives the okay, in which case, I'd have been happy to take you to your temporary residence. I hear they're luxurious."

The alchemist gestures to the sidewalk, where multiple limousines idle, awaiting their passengers. He gestures toward them. "One of these must be waiting for you, Mr. Skywalker. Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you," Mustang says, offering his hand to shake.

"They said there's clothes waiting for me. My clothes." Which will be a relief to get into. "And some of my belongings." He is desperately hoping his lightsaber is safely there.

"Luxurious?" What's he meant to do with luxurious? Having a bed has been a luxury for several years. "I suppose that's because I'm meant to be supporting at least one other person there." Which is heart attack inducing in another way, because he hasn't really made big decisions... maybe ever. He followed Leia's order, he did was Ben and Yoda told him to, he mostly just had to make sure he didn't die and he kept his squad alive.

Yeah. Just like keeping his squad alive. He could do that for someone. Surely.

"Right, yeah, I suppose one must be." He shakes the offered hand; it's fairly obvious that it's not flesh and bone upon being touched.

All Aboard

Tim moves down the train car slowly, his duffle bag over his shoulder. He stops at anyone he realises is a newcomer and offers them pamphlets for the Community Centre and for the Submissives who are still heading to their new apartments, a blanket or piece of clothing to cover up with.

He doesn't discriminate against the new Dominants though and that's how he'll come to stop in front of Luke.

"Can I offer you information on your new home? From someone who had to go through what you did a little while ago. I know it can take a bit to adjust and they don't exactly cover the most important stuff in the official orientation."

Luke's already getting good at spotting the ones who weren't born here. There tends to be a simmer of resentment, a spot of righteous fury that burns somewhere in them, the desire for change.

He gives the younger man a smile. "Yeah, I would, actually. I get the feeling they left out a lot of things that I really would prefer to know and honestly, I was more occupied with finding clothes than taking in anything they said."

"Ah yes, ending up sitting in what is basically tissue paper doesn't tend to make someone concentrate. I'd say they do that on purpose but I honestly don't think any of them see nudity as anything unusual at this point."

Tim smiles down a the blonde man. "We also run basic technology classes for those who come in from worlds not quite as technologically advanced. It can be quite a culture shock when you're used to say horses and snail-mail." Does Luke look like someone who might need that kind of class, maybe only a little. Tim does spy hints that Luke isn't from quite that far back technology-wise but there's a few things throwing him off.

"Perfectly clear plastic this time," Luke states. "And I'm sure it was deliberate on several different levels." Distraction, forced acclimatisation, humiliation, a whole gamut of possibilities.

"Snail-mail?" That's a phrase he completely doesn't know. "I'm also not sure what there is to get used to about live stock... existing?" Also not what he thinks Tim is suggesting. "I haven't seen anything resembling a spaceport, let alone an airport and there's no repulsor technology anywhere, so I'm guessing this place is a little lower tech than back home?"

"Ah, yes because of the rain. Their solution to leaving you exposed is just to expose you first. What they normally hand out isn't usually clear but it's not a huge amount better." He sighs, realising he sounds almost too casual about that fact. It's horrible but sadly it's the least of any LIERs worries.

"It's slag, for um... mail that is sent via foot instead of electronically. Tends to be as slow as a snail in comparison." Tim's eyes light up at the idea of a spaceport.

"A spaceport hey? You'll surprise a few people, the reference to horses is back when they were the fastest mode of transport. As opposed to cars, flying by plane or your world's equivalent."
