It's not that he can't come back from this. He's been through worse, but he feels like he just got to something. He managed to finally get on top. And this place shoves him right back down.
He should be paying attention, and part of him is taking it in, but right now his eyes are on the others around him. Who has the similar line down their neck (and who is trying to hide it) and who doesn't. He's not keen on talking to anyone, but the seat next to him is open.]

[He fusses at the tie, not liking the feel around his neck. How he got roped into this is a longer story, but he's here and shuffling in the corner. Really, if he can get out of here, the sooner the better. The end game isn't a bad one, but none of this sits well with him. Homeless kids that can't help where they've ended up is a little close to home for his comfort.
