« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »

« « « ALL ON DISPLAY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

... and you’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals.

Winter is here and snow flurries are common in the Up while the slush collects in the Down.

» » » ALL ABOARD

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « WINTER WONDERLAND

As a particularly heavy snowstorm blows across the city, Duplicity finds itself blanketed in white. The morning after the storm, many citizens seem to be in a particularly mischievous mood and snowballs are a common sight flying through the air. A projectile meant for someone else may hit you square in the face if you're not careful — and then it's on. Joining these impromptu snow battles is encouraged, no matter a person's designation, and even Submissives teaming up to pelt unsuspecting Dominants with snowballs is generally taken in the spirit of good fun. Not everyone is throwing snow, of course — some are rolling much larger balls and shaping them into lewd snow figures.

Those feeling chilled after playing in the snow may experience the urge to warm up with someone else, skin to skin. Whether they're a stranger or a familiar face, holding hands, kissing, or getting down and dirty with the nearest willing partner is invigorating. It might even be the only way to really feel warm again.

« « « DUBIOUS DELIVERIES

(cw: aphro, humiliation kink)

Want to make some quick cash? After exiting the train in the Down, there seems to be a questionable character hanging about the station. Dressed in a trenchcoat and looking more like a flasher than the businessman he claims to be, this shady recruiter offers easy money in exchange for a simple delivery. Just take a package and drop it off at the address on the label. Really, that's it! Stop asking questions.

Should characters decide to open the package themselves instead, they'll discover one of the following: glitter — so much glitter, lube (appears normal, but actually contains hot pepper and will cause more than a mild tingling sensation if used anywhere sensitive), a package of flavored condoms mysteriously labeled "every flavor" (none of them taste good), candy or perfume containing an aphrodisiac that, in addition to the usual libido-boosting effect, will also cause an intense craving for humiliation.

It seems to be one of those services that allows one to send anonymous prank gifts, and they're hiding behind LIERs as couriers. There's no return address or company information on or inside the package, except for a card marked Encoded Sin Corp — which does not seem to be a real company if the name is searched.

Whether characters end up delivering the package — maybe even to a fellow LIER — or get into some trouble along the way, someone is getting a nasty surprise.

« « « SURPRISES FOR SALE

(cw: aphro, dubcon, excessive fluids, exhibitionism, public use)

A small winter market has been set up along one of the major streets in the Up with stalls selling a variety of goods ranging from knitted hats and scarves, soaps, scented lotions, candles, jewelry, artwork and assorted crafts to hand-dyed bondage rope and kinky leather accessories. Food and drink stands are plentiful as well. Strings of lights crisscross the street between the roofs of the shops, providing a cheerful glow, and there are tables set up in the street itself for people to sit and chat while having a snack — if they can stand the cold.

Some of the most popular treats being sold are hot chocolate, eggnog, marshmallow snowmen, and sugar cookies decorated like snowflakes. Of course, their popularity may have something to do with the effects they produce when consumed.

• The hot chocolate simply gets one all hot and bothered.
• The eggnog may cause heavy production of sexual fluids, a desire to be filled or covered with someone else's cream, or all of the above.
• The marshmallow snowmen will make those who eat them want to invite others to use them as they please, desiring nothing more than to be molded into the perfect fucktoy.
• The sugar cookies seem to induce all sorts of different cravings — after all, no two snowflakes are alike!

These effects tend to last at least an hour and may, in some cases, last up to a full day.

One of the jewelry shops sells an unusual selection of compass pendants and bracelets. The compass arrows spin round and round lazily while the pieces are on display. Once worn, however, that changes. The arrow will settle on a direction, but instead of pointing north it will lead directly to another person. Perhaps you should speak to them? You may even begin to feel magnetically drawn to them yourself… In the event that two people have compasses that point them at each other, the attraction will be even stronger — nearly impossible to deny.

There is another shop which sells intricately designed pocket watches and small clocks. When these timepieces are stared at for an extended length of time or picked up and handled, characters will feel a brief but strong connection to their past and experience a vivid flashback to some moment that was, in whatever way, meaningful for them. After reliving the memory, they will feel compelled to speak about it to whoever is nearby.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide:

If your character likes it hot, they are a Dominant. If your character prefers the cold, they are a Submissive.

To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to use new TDMs with different designations for fun!

Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game.

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

Truthfully, if anyone got in the way, it would be Akutagawa with how he often seemed to hunt Atsushi down just to antagonize him. They both have issues with their temper, but it's Akutagawa who goes out of his way to be a nuisance. He'd started an entire fight over package delivery, after all.

He seems to be finished with it, though, when he doesn't move to attack Atsushi again. He almost seems to be back at his apathetic baseline before Atsushi makes the mistake of bringing up his illness. His eyes narrow and he wishes he could answer with Rashoumon as opposed to using his words.

"I'll be fine." The word is said pointedly, harshly. The last thing he needs is Atsushi worrying over his health. It's degrading. "I can handle myself."

More than anything, he hates that Atsushi has a point. Without his treatment back home, he'll surely have to find a doctor, and he remembers from before just how difficult it can be for LIERs to get much of anything, especially when they're Submissives. His best bet would to be to find another LIER, but... The idea of having to ask for help somehow burns more than the feeling in his lungs.

[personal profile] gekkajuu 2022-02-07 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
Of course Atsushi would always have warned any Agency members turning up about Chuuya being here. Maybe it's just the fact that Chuuya told him to that threw him off? That seems really counter-productive for an enemy who genuinely intends to wreak havoc! But, okay, message belatedly accepted, strange mafia person.

Ugh - Atsushi knew they were stolen goods..! But he genuinely can't waste the hot chocolate, even with that blatant confession. He's just going to be a bit more sulky as he drinks it, now.

Noticing Chuuya's direct approach a little too late, Atsushi has to decide between jumping out of the way because he doesn't want to anger anyone (let alone Chuuya - but really, anyone), or not jumping out of the way because it risks spilling the hot chocolate, which is basically a crime against humanity for wasting nutrition. Unable to decide in the time he has, but leaning slightly more towards saving the hot chocolate just because Chuuya insists on calling himself a dangerous enemy (and Atsushi probably shouldn't respect those as much as other people, even though he kind of does), he does an awkward spin, clutching the chocolate to his chest, to try and make Chuuya bump into his back, keeping his drink safe(ish).
hisfathersimage: (Luke)

[personal profile] hisfathersimage 2022-02-07 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
The name clearly means nothing to Luke. He can see where her gaze is and feel no need to explain or elaborate on his lightsaber. Not to her. "Mon Cal black market port, from memory." He also doesn't offer her a hand to shake. "I'm Luke Skywalker."
gekkajuu: (pic#15442117)

[personal profile] gekkajuu 2022-02-07 11:39 am (UTC)(link)
The response is predictable, of course. Atsushi would have expected nothing else (if he'd bothered to expect anything at all), but this still leaves him with nothing more to say or do. He can't force any help on Akutagawa. He's not really sure he wants to help Akutagawa, either, but he does think Akutagawa needs help, and he's pretty sure the guy won't seek it out of his own accord - at least: not without additional motivation.

What to do..? He tries and tries to think, even though he's much better at simply acting than he is at clever plotting. For that, he would really need Dazai's -...

Ah! Got it!

"... If you die because you don't take care of yourself... you'll bring more shame on Dazai-san than I do."

Most people would say that is the case anyway, but not Atsushi. Because apparently bad things like chopping people up can't reflect poorly on Dazai when Akutagawa does them. They're bad things, yes, but just part of the mafia job, and clearly not even a little bit Dazai's fault.

Well... if Atsushi were to deem anything that Akutagawa does Dazai's fault, then his own abuse at Akutagawa's hands would be Dazai's fault as well. And that is not an option.
aheartlessdog: (pic#12414245)

[personal profile] aheartlessdog 2022-02-07 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
Predictability has always been Akutagawa's biggest weakness. It's why Dazai could so easily play him as a pawn whenever he needed to. His desperation for Dazai's approval makes him easy to manipulate, so much so that even Atsushi has figured it out. It works on the battlefield as much as it works here.

He always has a habit of saying more than he means to around Atsushi. He's so unwilling to admit a weakness that even most of the mafia doesn't realize how bad off he's gotten. When he speaks, he regrets it instantly. "I'll find a doctor."

He doesn't want to. Back home, he could trust the mafia doctor, but here, he had no reason to trust anyone. If it got out that he isn't as strong as he wants people to believe, he's not sure he'd be able to handle it. What if Dazai showed up? He already exists in a world where Dazai isn't proud of him; giving him more of a reason not to be is unthinkable.

He already feels that the only thing Dazai sees him as good for is supporting Atsushi. If it turns out Akutagawa can't even do that, then what worth does he have?

[ The whole moment has an air of absurdity to it. What do they know about each other, really? She could have lied about everything and Carver wouldn't have enough context to call her on it. To tell, one way or another. But she's here, watching him with a calm sort of certainty, and he wants to touch her more than he's wanted anything in a very long time.

He squeezes her shoulder briefly, mouth twitching. Almost a smile. Because what can you do, really? In a situation like this, what can you do?

Survive it, he supposes.

It's been a while since he's put a condom on but it's not that complicated. Thankfully. His fingers are still twitching up a storm. But he's steady when he puts his hands on her sides, and spins her around. Puts her up against the wall so they're eye-level. ]

Put your legs around me.

[ He's twitching. Again. But she's there, and solid against his hands, and she hasn't flinched once. ]

[ Akutagawa sits nearby, waiting on a bench near the stall for Chuuya to get their drinks. The mafia is obviously not above crime, but petty theft has been a thing long in the past for both of them. Morally, Akutagawa doesn't care, but it's still strange to be resorting to it now, just to get by again.

When Chuuya returns, Akutagawa takes his cup of hot cocoa in his hands, letting the warm mug warm his fingers before taking a sip. They're in the Up, at the moment, where the stalls are lining the streets, but it reminds him all too much of when he'd sneak out of the slums to steal food from the more fortunate. It's humiliating.
]

Thank you.

[ He takes a slow sip, ignoring that it burns his tongue. He doesn't care for the pain one way or the other; he's just glad to have something hot to drink. ]

You barely look like you could lift your arms right now let alone return the favor.

( she sounds amused, yes, but also pleased with what she's done. she settles down on her back, sighing. )

You don't have to. You needed that far more than I needed anything.

( she's not made of stone, she's not going to say no but she'd done that because she wanted to help and she'd wanted to. she doesn't want kate to feel like she has to repay her or anything such as that. )

“A Jedi, yes,” Bo said back to Din. “She really was quite hopeless.” There was a fond if not slightly sad smile on her lips. That had been a long time ago. Practically a lifetime.

She at least doesn’t seem interested in harassing Luke anymore as her tone evens out. A nod of acknowledgment being given. “That’s right.” But he gives her pause again as Luke gives his name. “Skywalker?” That also rang a bell. Some distant memory from decades ago. Instead of explaining though she decides to ask. “Where did you get that lightsaber?”

“I am grateful to be saved by his reputation,” Obi-Wan says with another chuckle. Sounds as if Luke was still making friends. He was glad to hear it.

“Admittedly I would like to find him. I only just returned from an apparent 3 month absence.”

Yes, he’s real. There is indeed flesh and blood under that robe. The Jedi’s smile softening as he felt keenly aware of how much he had been missed. He would have missed the Mandalorian too if had even been aware of his absence. Though the news of Luke made his heart sink.

“I see. I need to make a point to see him then. Though you know how they are regarding submissives in the Up.” Especially uncontracted ones such as he was now after just having returned. Luke would probably have to be the one to come find him in the Down.

Why do these people always find him.

Why does he always go along with it.

No.

[ Everything in Carver bristles about the situation. He doesn’t know where his people are or - dangerously - whether all the concussive head trauma he’s taken over the years has finally caught up to him. Either way he’s been separated from the group and that leaves his people vulnerable in a moment they can’t afford it.

Their enemies are circling. And they’ve lost brothers in the dark.

He sticks his chin out, all steely defiance. ]

[ So far it's been a long line of cheap humiliation tactics, one after the other. And now this man - a stranger, and a powerfully built one at that - could be an information source. Or a threat. Probably both.

It's usually both.

Carver doesn't twitch or fidget. He holds himself perfectly still, giving the man a narrow look. Back home, this would be the perfect setup to corner a stranger and rob their corpse blind. Not that Carver's got much worth stealing at this point. If the powers that be return his gear, then maybe. Not so much right now. ]

What'd you know about the Down?

[ Scott's strange in ways that make even very sane people with no trauma feel threatened - because he hates himself but he is 6'3", well trained at various combat practices, moves and holds himself that way, it's almost impossible to make eye-contact with him, he doesn't have a readable face unless he very much wants to, and....

It is almost impossible to make him feel physically threatened.

He lacks a lot of confidence in a lot of ways, is self-loathing as hell, but he's well trained, has the force of a major bomb locked behind his glasses, and is used to being In Charge. ]

I know it has a gang problem, some decent bars, and a church affiliated community center that is good at providing new arrivals with the basics they need.
fortitudosalutis: (010)

[personal profile] fortitudosalutis 2022-02-07 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Carver scoffs at that, not bothering to hide it. This whole place has been a mindfuck - first and foremost the fact that there are crowds, crushes of people going about their lives and talking to each other like the world never ended. Most of them are weird solid clothes too, the kind that look like they haven’t been repaired to hell and back, and cleaned with decent soap on the regular. And the people wearing them move almost casually to his eyes, not checking their corners constantly.

Absolutely none of them look starving, either. Carver and the others have been eating well lately, well enough that he’s been able to gain some muscle mass back, but he knows damn well that food is something you kill for and that good turn might not last all that long.

This man is different, though. Doesn’t wilt under Carver’s glare, just holds his ground. Sunglasses might be a tactic, hiding his eyes.

That makes him dangerous. But it’s not like Carver has an abundance of allies just popping out of the proverbial woodwork right now. If he showed up here, then his people might too. And he needs to be ready for them.

First thing, he needs winter gear. And then to start hoarding food that’ll keep. ]

What gang problem?

[ It feels almost comical. He has a sense these aren’t the kind of gangs he dealt with back home, the kind that hunted weaker groups down and took them for everything they had. Like his. ]

[ Scott once lived in a post-Apocalyptic (tiredest amusement ever here, since Apocalypse was a literal being and possessed him at one point and nearly killed his son) future, raising a kid, where there were food shortage of the 'eat rats' sort.

Also he didn't really live there, he astrally projected there.

Anyway. ]

I've only been here a couple of weeks. I don't know details just that most of the businesses are under some sort of 'protection' they pay for. You'd need to ask someone more familiar for details.

[ That answer is telling enough. If this guy's been here as long as he says and hasn't been shaken down or jumped, that means there's room to maneuver. Whoever the gangs are, their control isn't absolute.

It'd hard to be, in a place this large. With infrastructure like this.

He eyes the scenery out the window. An actual working train. Goddamn. ]

And the power grid? It stable?
notrosecolored: (30)

[personal profile] notrosecolored 2022-02-07 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ That question makes his eyebrows go up from behind his glasses, but that's more a matter of it being a good question than anything else. ]

I've only been here for a couple of weeks. The Down lost power at one point, but it seems to be related to a weather event - or was used to shuffle submissives into the up. I'm not sure which of the two is more accurate.
