"I appreciate the sentiment all the same." It's not so much that she's unhappy to see Max again as that she's not terribly fond of the idea of being stuck here again. On the other hand, things could be worse. Things at home had been downright terrible for a long time and, as odd as this place could be at times, she can't recall a single instance of legitimately fearing for her life here.
