She looped an arm around him to keep them in pace and her steadied with his arm around her. Leaving the market was just a reminder of what being in this city meant, but at least for once they left it unscathed—- mostly. “They weren’t just things though. They were pieces of our life together,” she replied back. It wasn’t that she cared so much about the couch or the bed or the small little items placed in their apartment. It was theirs. She had created a business that was meant to help others, a small beacon in this bleak and corrupted city.
But she also knew if they did it together once, she could do it again. “You do? How long was I gone?” She asked. Clearly they both must have come back recently, so he might not have an answer to how long she was gone herself, but there was a pang of guilt that he might have been her for so long without her.
