It sounds like the complacency you claim it's not. You're ... not as I knew you, I understand. But it looks like you're making token efforts rather than a drew dedication to finding a way out of here, or upending the system to ensure people don't suffer more than they already have. Those born here may not know any better, but we do, no? Does that not mean we have an obligation to help them find a better reality?

Do attachments here even hold any meaning? They could be manufactured, either out of proximity and desperation, or chemically. Why would anyone trust them enough to alter their behavior based on them?

[Damian didn't understand any of this, and part of him wanted to have found that he was coming in to his father already having a fully formed plan to implement. Or at least a solid start on one. That seemed like it wasn't the case, and he was disappointed and frustrated ... and a little sad, too. Damian didn't LIKE it here. He wanted a way out.
