Stede's gaze snaps up at the feel of Ed's leg against his own, eyes lit up with a not insubstantial spark of hope. It's not much, that overture from Ed. But it's something. That means the world to him right now.
"Well. There's this, to start." He runs his fingers through the water, pressing his leg back against Ed's without even an ounce of subtlety. "The technology is astounding. And then there's the people—not the locals, they're awful actually—but the rest like us. They come from everywhere you can imagine, and then places you simply never could. Different worlds, Ed. The stories you'll hear."
He sounds a little bit in awe when he says that, but not quite as much as when he says the next thing.
"And no one cares here, seeing men out together. I even... I talked to a gentleman who was getting married. To another man. And it's not even a thing. No one thinks twice about it."
