Perhaps they might ask after her needlepoint, if that is her current activity, or some other relatively safe topic.

Asking about her day is also a safe topic, but she feels it will be rather dull to relay, especially given how a day can change so wildly in this city.

"Alright... I wake and prepare myself for the day. " Which would definitely not be interesting to him, she is certain. "We have breakfast and then attend to whatever errand and tasks are upon us." Also probably not of interest. "I might catch up on my reading or correspondence with friends and relations. I have... a needlepoint pattern I am working on, though it is not really something I enjoy. I could play the pianoforte, assuming Mary is not practicing a piece. Mary is one of my sisters." She pauses there and tries a sip of her tea. She is used to having a pot, so being delivered tea in a larger piece of china is novel.
