It's not exactly that. [That Dominants shouldn't sell sex.] It's more a problem of clientele.

See Dominants aren't really meant to have sex with other Dominants. It's not quite a taboo, 'n people still do it--y'know in secret 'n all--but it's not the sorta thing you'd wanna go 'round making formal by exchanging money for it. And Submissives aren't technically able to spend their money at all without some Dominant's ok.

So trying to sell sex, you'd have a problem on both sides. But sex therapy--that makes things a little different. Sometimes there's really no sex in it at all, just talk. And with my Submissive clients, I find loopholes, ways for 'em to pay me in services or trade. ...Not [he's quick to clarify] sexual services.

[He watches Ash for a moment. Something subtle has shifted, even if just fleetingly, even if the mask of biting sarcasm and hard-edged jokes come back a second later. It's subtle, and someone who's less good at reading people might miss it, but Vrenille sees the shadows of worry and doubt gathering in the background, the way Ash looks into his cup as though he'll find something there beyond what it contains.

He pats him on the shoulder with a wry smile, the sort that's designed to save face and disguise for them both that there's been anything for him to see at all.]

C'mon, I know just the place. [The Thirteenth Step isn't far.]
