Genevieve is certainly not intending to imply that Beau can't take care of herself- she knows full well that even though the period she lives in might be restrictive, there are plenty of women who are just as or more powerful than the men attached to them. She isn't away that her actions would be seen as old-fashioned or insulting, except perhaps to those who were scandalized by how moddish she is compared to her contemporaries. Which is certainly not a problem she's foreseeing with Beau.
