Her follow up on Nikola only earns her a light scoff. No, the boy hardly had the scope for all the things that he did. But learning enough of them was what had gotten him killed. In the end, it was his hand who had done the damage, even if it had been set in motion by other players.

Alastair could, bitterly, own that much.

"I think you care enough not to waste your time humiliating yourself," he responds, still calm. "Especially given, as you say, there is no death here."

Trapped in an eternal battle? He's had more than enough of that life. He won't presume as much of her, given all the other suffering and loss she has gone through. But it is not so farfetched to consider them on more equal ground, in the grand scheme of things. He knows what should come next here -- but he is not quite prepared to give it just yet.

"It does not much matter anyway." He's already as good as dead in Whitechapel, after all. He has to assume she knows as much, given how she spoke of Nikola.
