He mentions an ex now and she realizes this is the second time he's made some reference to getting married, to having a significant other that's no longer significant, she thinks. Or no longer here. She nearly takes his pause as an opening to ask about that. One hand is now curled around her coffee, the other is on the table, about to make a move, to reach out and settle on Kyle's hand in a comforting gesture as they broach the topic of a broken heart.
But before her hand can start to make that journey across the table, she recognizes that he has more to say and then... then he drops that bombshell on her.
She stops and blinks, her lips forming this perfect little 'o' like she's about to say what or why or something similar. Then she breaks, pulling her hand back to cover her face slightly as she breaks out in a small giggle.
"Sorry, I don't mean to-- I'm sure you're nervous, saying something like that and I'm just--"
She sighs lightly, a little helpless in tone, and shakes her head with a gentle smile.
"I'm part alien," she blurts out and then shrugs. "I'm related to Isobel, of all people. So, you know, no judgment from this side of the table. As long as you're not killing people." A pause. "You're not killing people, right?"
Because that's an entirely different conversation and not one she thinks Kyle would broach in the middle of a coffee shop.
