She pulls back and gives him a look at that opener. Because that is really the worst way to endear someone to her, Alex. Especially after Jesse Manes had just tried to eradicate her and the other aliens from the planet. But the story softens as he goes on, so she allows him a small smile of appreciation and chooses not to interrupt his storytelling.

There's a lot to that simple sentence. He gets me. She knows only a fraction of what that must mean, given that they're both soldiers, both seem battle. Maybe even more. It still makes her a touch uncomfortable to think of him as a "Manes man," or whatever bullshit Jesse Manes spouted. But if he makes Alex happy, protects him and cares for him, he can't be that bad, even if he is rough around the edges.

"Your knight in shining armor," she says with a teasing little smile. "How sweet."

She presses her hand to his chest and her smile stays small but goes warmer.

"I'm glad you've found someone like that. I just want you to be happy, Alex, to feel safe and loved with someone. That's what matters."
