It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. The weather is quite pleasant for once actually. Sunny and warm. How nice. |

![]() It's time for the monthly Duplicity train tour. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
« « « BACK ON TRACK
![]() With the train system up and running again after the damage that was done to it thanks to the Rubies, Duplicity’s Department of Transportation has decided to partner with LIEs and their Orientation program for the next batch of new arrivals being processed at the facility. Their aim is to raise a bit of money to help cover the cost of repairs and much needed construction, and they’ll be enlisting the help of LIERs — whether they want to volunteer their time or not. There aren’t many vehicles in Duplicity, but those who do own cars or even motorcycles are encouraged to take advantage of the warming weather by coming out to get a free washing, courtesy of the city’s first official charity car wash. Should anyone care to make a donation, all proceeds will be going to benefit continuing restoration efforts at the various stations that were impacted by last month’s events. Of course, new LIERs aren’t the only ones invited to volunteer their time and efforts to soaping up some chrome — and there might be some fun perks involved for anyone who pitches in to help get these cars all squeaky clean. |
« « « ZOOM ZOOM
![]() Even though Duplicity is a place ripe with debauchery and filth in many regards, that doesn’t mean that those who have the means to own vehicles aren’t inclined to keep them clean. Targeting those who clearly have cash to spare, the car wash in the Up put on by the Department of Transportation is an enticing spectacle to behold, whether one is having their vehicle catered to or not. Volunteers are encouraged to strip down to underwear or a swimsuit and get scrubbing! If they don’t have something skimpy to wear, don’t worry — there are spare hot pants and bikinis to go around. Hoses, buckets, and a variety of colorful liquid soaps have all been provided as well, along with sponges for washing - although using one’s own soaped up body is even better - and towels for drying. Getting all sudsy and wet seems to come with some added effects depending on which soap is used, such as:
Some of these cars are going to get dirtier before they get clean. But who doesn’t love a show? In fact, one of the services offered is a bit of backseat action with the volunteers, anything from riding the gear shift to stationary road head. Car owners may request to have volunteers get it on in the back while they watch via a dashcam set up on the rearview mirror. It may seem counterintuitive considering the point of a car wash is to clean the vehicle, but engaging in such an act could earn a pretty penny for the fundraiser. There are other tasks to do at the car wash aside from, well, scrubbing vehicles with your body. Volunteers are also needed to collect donations, greet those who come to the event, hold signs to advertise and entice passerbys, help direct people where to go, etc. These volunteers are encouraged to wear as little as possible or white clothes, especially if they want to enter the wet t-shirt contest held at the end of the day. All those who participate in the contest will receive tickets for admission to a drive-in movie coming to a parking lot in the near future. |
« « « STATION MASTER
![]() To celebrate the return of regular train service, for a limited time, special cards with a magnetic stripe are handed out to riders. At first, it might be unclear what they’re for, but printed on one side is a list with every station between the Up and the Down. Inquire further and their purpose will become a little more obvious: “check-ins” at each station, with special prizes handed out to the riders who manage to achieve a minimum of five (the most common of these being a complimentary night for them and a plus one, if desired, at the Stay and Play Hotel). However, checking in won’t be quite as simple as a single swipe of one’s card. Scanning the card at any turnstile will offer up a specific sex act that riders must complete, either on the train itself or, if they’re quick, in the station before hopping on. Some acts might only require one person — solo masturbation to orgasm, for example. Others may demand two or even three participants. Better hope you’ve found a riding buddy, or even a possible friendly stranger, because all acts must be completed by the time the train reaches its final stop in the Down before looping back to the Up. |
« « « ESCORT ESCAPADES
![]() Following the recent conflict that took place in the Down, LIEs has begrudgingly ceded control of the lower portion of the city to the Rubies and other gangs. Although some territory, including the public housing for LIERs, remains neutral, the area on the whole is seedier than ever. Thanks to this development, LIEs has decided to pair new Submissives up at Orientation with a Dominant to escort them safely to their housing in the Down. Whether the Dominant is just as green as the Sub they’re escorting or a longtime Duplicity resident, adhering to the buddy system is necessary in these tumultuous times. There may also be a few instances where Submissives are paired with one another and entrusted to the care of a native Dominant to help them to their new place of residence. Regardless of who goes with who, no one is to end up going home alone! Of course, in the spirit of matchmaking, Dominants are encouraged (if the chemistry is right) to spend the night with their Submissive charge, either in the Down or, if the Dominant is feeling generous, back at their place. If they wind up getting it on, both will receive $50 deposited to their bank accounts the next day. Sure, it may not seem like much, but for Submissives especially, who have nothing, it’s better than being empty-handed. |
« « « MOD & OOC NOTES
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: If your character would rather live in the country or out in nature, they’re a Submissive. If your character is a city slicker or would like to be, they’re a Dominant. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to use new TDMs with different designations for fun! Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have a good time!! |
Pegasus J. Crawford | Yu-Gi-Oh | Dominant
» » » ALL ABOARD
[In his years with the Eye, Pegasus had touched so many minds that they were too numerous to count. He'd seen just about every mind conceivable, the best and the worst, and more often than not, he'd found himself digging his fingers into the festering rot of peoples hearts over and over. And yet, despite this, the people of this place managed to surpass even his lowest expectations for humanity.
He'd informed himself of Duplicity and its secrets within the span of an hour by grazing over any mind he passed, but there was so much muck in and between the pertinent information that he felt covered in it by the end. The last time he'd been this uncomfortable while rooting around peoples minds had been- god, almost a decade ago now, when he'd been a sheltered seventeen year old terribly shocked to discover that my goodness, many people did not have kind nor charitable thoughts about himself and others! He'd been almost comically naive back then, and he'd learned a thing or two about how people perceived him during those first few months. He'd also learned to stop caring.
But the critically unsavoury direction of the thoughts were new, and thus slightly harder to let wash past him. He'd landed in some sort of BDSM city, with one half of the city throttled by the criminal underworld, and it was all very torrid and strange and, of course, absent of the inhibitions that would make people less awkward to read.]
Oh, no, you'll want to avoid that one.
[He gently, charitably guides someone away from a man with a particularly questionable mind and gestures toward a pair of empty seats.]
He's an exhibitionist. Believe me, you don't want to know how I know!
How long have you been here?
« « « ESCORT ESCAPADES
[While Pegasus isn't exactly enthused to be thrust into the role of escort, it is only practical for him to try to connect with a submissive. The sooner he can get a contract, the sooner he can start pursuing the avenues that will open up for him.
So when he's handed a submissive, he greets them with a friendly smile.]
Seems a little pointless to give you an escort when you'll have to brave the Down later, but ah well. Might as well get settled before being mugged, right?
« « « FRIENDLY NEIGHBOURHOOD CARD SHARK
[If Pegasus is to be comfortable in this place, he needs money and status, and since money is the fastest way to status, that is what he decides to tackle first. It takes some convincing before the Rubies agree to give him a loan, but he eventually gets one by promising to return it double before the end of the week, and he then steps into the nearest casino he can find and promptly proceeds to lose two games- but it's not without purpose. After each loss, he huffs and puffs and makes a show of downing a glass of wine, because there is a man nearby he knows isn't going to be able to resist taking advantage of some 'loaded idiot' throwing around cash, and he makes sure to look positively honoured and slightly smashed when finally he gets the invitation he's been waiting for.
By the end of the night, he'd won himself the amount needed to pay back his loan and considerably more (by the skin of his teeth, of course; he doesn't want people to get the impression it'd been anything but dumb luck), and it's with a bounce in his step that he cashes out. The moment he's out of here, he's going to get himself some nice, tailored clothes. But first- there's men following him, and he pretends not to hear the shuffle of their footsteps. He can't propel them into a shadow game in public; that would be showing too much of his hand too soon, so instead he steps out a side door and into a quiet alleyway and feigns surprise when they accost him.]
Oh no! Please don't hurt me! [He rather dramatically propels himself backward, hands in the air.] I'll give you anything you want-!
[His voice falters when he registers that he isn't alone with the men.
Well, that's going to complicate things.]

Escort
[Mugged? Really? The man she's been paired up with is a strange one but Airy's one to talk, considering she's the one who's the size of a large doll and sports a pair of butterfly-esque wings. That's normal for her though, it's how she was made.]
I can't see there being much to steal from me. It isn't as if I have anything on me.
no subject
Though she's considerably cuter than those things, not unlike one of his toons. He sort of wants to keep her, but domesticating a fairy is probably frowned upon.]
I prefer honest. With a name like 'LIES' attached to me, lets say I feel compelled. [Nah, he's just Like This.
He tilts his head slightly as she continues, glancing her over.]
Not yet, you don't. Though I do wonder how you would carry anything around! Do you have fairy magic to facilitate that? Infinite pocket space, perhaps?
[Not that her outfit appears to have any pockets, but he's definitely applying cartoon logic here.]
no subject
She is quite cute, it's true, but she'd be a lot cuter if she hadn't been dressed in a literal paper lunch bag, with crudely cut out holes for her arms and wings. They'd told her she'd get her clothes back when she arrived at her residence. Humiliation, it seemed, was just part and parcel of it all. She doesn't exactly like the idea that she's to be owned in any way by another person, but making contracts and dedicating herself to another person isn't exactly out of the norm for her either. After all, she'd assigned herself to the Wind Vestal for quite sometime. Contracting with someone else wouldn't necessarily be all that different.]
I can use magic, yes, but I'm not capable of something like that. If I can't actually carry an object I can just make it float. I suppose I could get a satchel of some sort too...
[Y'know, within reason. The communication device she's been given is a bit too big for her liking...which is why it's lying on a nearby table, pointedly ignored for now.]

Escort - Mindreading is all A-Okay as it comes.
Every other Submissive being paired up with a Dominant seems worried or concerned, but Illumi's face is impassive even as he raises a hand to Pegasus in greeting. ]
Yo.
[ It's a casual greeting, but his tone is empty. ]
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh. Looks like he really isn't needed, in this case.]
Hello there! I must be honest, you look quite a capable man- [Or, at least, a little more capable than Pegasus on physical assessment.] but since they're insisting... Pegasus J. Crawford. Who might you be?
[He gestures to the exit, inviting Illumi to walk while they speak.]
no subject
An assassin born from a family of assassins. Raised since birth to kill without hesitation, but not to fight if there was no chance of victory. As the eldest son he raised his younger siblings to be murderers just as easily as himself. ]
Illumi. [ He leaves out 'Zoldyck' for now, just in case. The family name brought fear to any who knew it and it was easier to avoid that sort of thing. ] It's nice to meet you.
[ Wouldn't it be more difficult for this man to make it back from the Down afterwards? He looked like exactly the type of man that lowlives would target. Well-dressed, sophisticated, intelligent. The kind of man who looked rich. At least that's Illumi's assumption upon a first glance as he follows Pegasus to the exit. ]

But as much as he did appreciate learning everything the very hard way, there were times where he'd like to cheat.
So when Pegasus says that to him, Mikuni had no idea. Usually he tried to avoid everybody in this cursed city and his one slip up would have been very bad for him. He was thankful for Pegasus and he makes a visibly disgusted face. Mikuni isn't above exaggerating but he isn't this time.]
Really? I shouldn't be surprised...[He decidedly sits away from the exhibitionist and instead goes to sit down near Pegasus.] Thank you kindly! I've been here for over a year...kind of? [It's complicated.] But somehow, I keep running into these types!
no subject
You have my deepest sympathies, if so. Though if it's just the obscene in general, that seems to be most of the native population. Some just show it less than others. [Pegasus makes himself comfortable in his seat, folding his legs and tucking his hands neatly in his lap. They're comfortably situated away from anyone too odd.] They're more affronted by relationships between dominants than, well-
[He gestures to the kneeling submissive and their dominant at the front of the train.]
That. I'm not sure I'd be used to it after a year either.

With a dramatic sigh, he shrugs.]
You'd be amazed at how many things people grow used to in this place. It's a shame! Just because there's unavoidable things in this place, doesn't mean we should just roll over and take it! Literally!

CARD SHARK -- DO IT PEGASUS, VIOLATE HIM IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY WITH YOUR EYE!
So he follows the men, who are following the oblivious idiot — who’s just turned and walked into what seems like an alleyway. Really? Joey grumbles under his breath. A part of him wonders why he’s even doing this. It’s not his problem. He has bigger problems to deal with. But he can’t ignore something like this. Not after everything he’s learned by being friends with Yugi. And sure, he'll be outnumbered, and maybe even get his ass kicked for his trouble but he's tough and resilient. He's used to fighting and he sure as hell will give it his best shot.
Rounding the corner and stepping into the alleyway, he winces at the sound of the man’s voice. What a baby! Wait a minute. That baby has a really familiar voice — one he would recognise anywhere because …
Yugi-boy.
Holy shit. ]
PEGASUS?!
[ That’s right. He’s gone and yelled his name. And now, crap. The men have noticed him. So much for having the element of surprise on his side. ]
[ ooc: hey! Joey is post DSOD. So he knows Pegasus' story at the end of Duellist Kingdom. So his response won't automatically be 'ya evil jerk!' and he'll be willing to kind of ... listen and work together? Eventually. But he'll still be suspicious as fuck. Let me know if you need me to change anything. ]
HE ABSOLUTELY WILL 👌
The blond- Katsuya Jounouchi. Such a bright heart that boy'd had, and seeing it at work during the Duelist Kingdom finals had been enthralling. For all Keith Howard's strategy, experience, deck strength, and even cheating, it hadn't been enough to overcome Jounouchi's believe in himself, his deck, and his little sisters future. And Pegasus can admire those things, even if he'd ultimately intended to crush them. Not literally, of course; he would have sent Yugi - just Yugi - and friends away once he'd had what he wanted, even given back his grandfather. Deprived of what little power they had, there wouldn't have been any harm in it. Who would have believed a couple of teenagers if they started making wild claims about the events of Duelist Kingdom? Who would have believed a kookie old man? But it would have crushed them, that loss.
Only, it hadn't turned out that way, had it? He'd lost. He'd been the one crushed instead, beaten at his own game. With the distraction of this new, exciting (disgusting) environment, he hasn't had time to give that much thought, really process it, and as there are currently two men standing in an alleyway pointing knives at him, he won't be able to dedicate any time to it now either.]
Jounouchi?
[With Jounouchi as a witness, he has no reason to hide his abilities. The boy is already well-acquainted with his Eye. But he's curious- what will the boy do if he thinks Pegasus needs help? After everything that had occurred during Duelist Kingdom, he has no reason to try to help, and certainly no reason to risk his life to do it (for what little that meant here). He should want to see Pegasus hurt or killed, brought to justice in some manner, and if he decides to help Pegasus regardless... well, that will help determine Pegasus's reaction to Jounouchi's presence in the city.
So he continues to shrink back instead of rising up. He won't intervene unless the boy gets into any serious trouble.]
I could use some help.
[At the mention of help, his assailants turn on Jounouchi. If Jounouchi is going to leave him to his fate, he'll have to do it soon, or he'll be too deep in the category of threat to be allowed to flee.]
[Awesome, that should be interesting! Pegasus knows him by his Japanese name, so I hope that's okay!]
no subject
And yeah, he doesn’t like or trust Pegasus but he doesn’t want to see him get hurt either. He still remembers reading that diary, feeling that sympathy for the man who had yearned for his wife and did everything possible to get her back. Sure, he had a crapy way of going about it and hurting a lot of people in the process, but the intentions had been … good. Yugi had recognised it as well, despite what Pegasus had done to his grandpa.
Maybe Jounouchi hasn’t blown the element of surprise. The first goon seems pretty damn surprised when he lands that roundhouse kick, hitting him smack in the face. Guess they had underestimated him. And who could blame them, really? Compared to them, he was still just a kid, still wearing that school uniform. The man falls to the floor like a sack of potatoes and Jounouchi wastes no time in kicking the knife out of his hand. It goes skittering across the ground and disappears into a pile of rubbish on the far side. There was a time when he would have gleefully used that knife against his opponent. But things were different now. He was different now.
The other man draws closer, blade ready. Patience had never been a virtue of his, so Jounouchi immediately dives in, shoving all of his weigh against the other, ramming his shoulder into the man’s mid-section, and knocking him down. He’s quick to follow, straddling him, legs tight around the man’s waist, effectively pinning him down, while he tries to wrestle that knife out of his hand.
But now, it comes down to brute strength — and the goon is slowly beginning to overpower him.
Making sure, that he’s holding that knife wielding hand as tightly and as steady as possible, Jounouchi ducks his head and bites down hard on that hand. The man yelps loudly and the pain is enough to cause him to slacken his grip. Jounouchi wrenches that knife away and hurls it across the alleyway. Now it can't be used against him. Running on sheer adrenaline, Jounouchi is able to get a series of punches in — one, two, three, four! — each one expertly aimed, with the intention of rendering the man unconscious. But it's not enough. He’s hit with a knee to his stomach. It takes his breath away, pain spreading through him, causing him to curl in on himself — and suddenly he finds himself flat on his back being roughly shaken. He can hear the man muttering curses, he can see that knife-less hand curling into a fist — not as deadly but sure to cause damage in its own way — and he feels sharp pain exploding in his temple as he’s punched hard. The second punch lands on the side of his face, catching his nose and he feels something warm and wet, trickling down to his chin.
The thug is looming over him, smirking. ‘Not so tough now, are you?’ ]
Fuck. You.
[ His voice is weak and he's struggling to catch his breath, but his glare speaks volumes. He’s vaguely wondering if Pegasus has run off. He’s certain the other man is still out cold otherwise they would be tag-teaming this. This is fine. He just needs to get his breath back. He just needs ...
His eyelids begin to droop, darkness threatening to creep in and consume him. ]
[ ooc: no problem! I have switched to his Japanese name. I don't mind either and usually go with what other YGO characters are using! )

[Dumbledore is genuinely appreciative of the warning -- he'd only recently begun riding the train regularly, after a citation from the city had cut off his ability to teleport into the Down for work. It wouldn't have been a great start to his new commute if he'd spent it sitting next to someone trying to flash him.
Sitting down next to Pegasus, he answers:] Hm, I think I've been here now about four months, give or take. Are you one of the new arrivals here?
Thank you!
[He's familiarised himself with enough of this place and its residents that he feels like he's been here far longer than he has. He knows about the Rubies, EROS, The Creator; about the war that came long before the riots; about the things that live beneath their feet; even about a place called Fort Harmony.
He leans back in his seat, making himself comfortable, then extends a hand to his company.]

It's always easier to speak in your own language. Less mental noise, yes? If you have only been here a short while...do you know that man?

So, those men and Pegasus will find a slightly older gentleman stepping around the corner. He's in a full three piece suit and looks like he's about to go on a night on the town. He's already carefully undoing the cufflinks and rolling back his sleeves as he takes deliberate steps forward. ]
Oi. Look here. That's not going to happen tonight for you lads. [He gives a sharp gesture behind him towards the streets.] You might want to clear out. I'll not have you doing anything untowards towards that gent.

[Alfred shifts, as if to make a path. He's giving the man a chance to indeed run out of there. He's playing distraction, finger on the trigger. It's not a warning shot he'll fire, but at a hand with a knife. He won't miss.]
