« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « A. WAIST. OF. LEEWAYS.

The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation.

Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues.

Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same.

» » » THE KEY TO HEARTS

Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive.

For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall.

Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

[Lunafreya may have been the perfect picture of poise when you sat down next to her. She sits up tall, her hands folded in her lap, paying careful attention to what their guides are saying. But when a Dominant steps onto the train, Submissive following and kneeling at their mistress's feet, someone looking at her may notice her expression darken for a moment. It happens again when the group of Submissives sit further back on the train, near them, and Lunafreya can hold her tongue no more. She looks to her seat partner, knuckles whitening just a moment as she clasps her hands together.]

Surely the rulers of this city know the folly they commit in creating these castes? We cannot be labeled "dominant" or "submissive" by the mere circumstances of our birth.

[ ooc: rng or pick your room of choice! i'm open to any ]

[Depending on the room you're in, Lunafreya's poise may be quite shaken. If in Room B, she appears at ease, comfortable with her surroundings, but in Rooms A or C she'll be visibly uncomfortable, unable to find anything safe to look at (maybe the ceiling? Oh, goodness, why are there leather cuffs dangling down from above...). Either way, she'll be attempting to make conversation, embarrassing though the situation might be.]

We have one hour to unlock the necessary clues to gain our freedom. Would that a single key would be enough...

[Yet she seems reluctant to get in there and start turning things upside down...]

I suppose we ought to see what we can find. Where shall we begin?

[A black-tie affair is quite within Lunafreya's comfort zone. She gives her name over to the waitstaff willingly enough, perhaps not realizing they're collecting the names of uncontracted Submissives, but she'll spend her evening mingling among the gathered--Lunafreya is gentle, honest, and when she speaks to you her entire attention is focused upon you.]

[1]
[Are you alone? Lost? Mingling without any real sense of direction? If the answer to any of these is yes, here's Lunafreya, approaching with a soft smile on her face.]

Please, forgive my interruption... I couldn't help but notice you seemed at a loss.

My name is Lunafreya.

[2]
[It's the end of the night, and finally the reason for the names being taken down has appeared: Dominants are pulling names of Submissives to accompany them back to the Up, and Lunafreya's name has just been drawn.]

I beg your pardon?

the key to hearts [2]

[ it's a busy place, and Noctis has been doing his best wallflower impression for the party; anyone trying to socialise with him is, eventually, discouraged by his stoic stare and absolute lack of conversation. he doesn't want to talk to these people. he doesn't want to be here, which is a moot point because he is here when he should be — well. waiting to die. and that's another thing he doesn't really want to stand around thinking about.

he's made it through the entire night without taking in a single name or face, and he's really just waiting for this whole affair to be over with already, a little disgusted with the way names are getting pulled like prizes, especially knowing his is somewhere in there. and then someone says Lunafreya Nox Fleuret over the crowd and he swears his heart stops.

in the time it takes for his ears to stop ringing, Lunafreya reacts herself — he hears her voice — and Noctis isn't far behind, shouting like an idiot who never listened to a single one of the innumerable lessons in diplomacy he received in his life: ]

Nobody's taking Luna anywhere.

[ his head feels like there's nothing but static inside. she's here. she's alive, she's alive and she's here. ]

[If Noctis's heart stops when he hears her name called out over the crowd, Luna's stops in her chest when she hears his voice sounding in response.]

Noctis?

[It's a bit more urgent than she might normally sound, but if it is, who can blame her? She'd thought to be separated from him forevermore, to only watch him from beyond until the day he brought Light back to the world. To see him again now...]

Please-- [It's to the waitstaff that have appeared next to her, prepared to guide her toward the Dominant she's been selected by.] --a moment, I beg you.

[She doesn't wait for their response. Lunafreya turns, stepping further into the crowd and pressing toward where she thinks she heard him.]

Noctis, where are you?
ikenie: (Default)

[personal profile] ikenie 2018-10-15 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
Luna

[ he elbows a few people out of his way to reach her, a feeling of tunnel-vision narrowed down to just her, and as soon as he sees her moving through the crowd too, he lunges the last bit of distance to grab her hand like a lifeline. a part of him almost expects to just pass through her, or maybe that he'll reach out and never quite be able to touch her, because he's had that nightmare enough times since she died—

but it doesn't happen. he catches her hand and squeezes it so tightly that he feels all the delicate bones in it, and he's probably hurting her and he'll apologise for that later but she's here. she's really alive, healthy and hale and whole, even though the memory of her that's burned into his heart is the way she sank into the darkness. ]

You're here. [ his voice comes out thin and breathless. ] Gods, Luna, I didn't think I'd ever see you again and you're here.

[ it's an awful cocktail of relief and horror both. she's alive, yes, and he's so glad to see her that the words to describe it are caught in his throat enough to choke him — but she's here, in a place that intends to treat her like an object. he's been avoiding the reality of his situation here and seeing her in the same one draws the realisation like a lightning rod. he wants her to be here. he doesn't want her to be here. ]

[It hurts, it absolutely hurts, but Lunafreya doesn't--can't care that it does. How could she, when she's reaching out for him just as urgently, resting her left hand on top of the one that grips her right? It's just as the last time the two of them saw each other, but this time fate has sought fit to bring them together rather than drag them apart (but for how long can such a thing last? a tiny part of her wonders).

The emotions flooding through her are almost overwhelming in their potency: the joy of seeing him again, so potent it threatens to leave her in tears; the guilt of her joy, so painful and so familiar; and perhaps worst of all the tinge of dread that threads through her as he speaks. For while his reaction may be all she might have wished for, an affirmation she'd barely dared to ever dream of...]

And you are too. [She smiles in spite of that dread, and Noctis can probably see how happy she is to see him.] I hadn't thought I might find you here... what happened? Did you come through a door as I did?

[Has the True King fulfilled his calling at last? is a question she does not, will not ask. He looks so much like he did when she saw him last... Lunafreya can't help but worry that something has interfered with their world, with the one person who might yet save their Star.]

[ how is she so calm. he used to think it was because she knew everything, but he knows everything now, and it just makes him a ticking time-bomb filled with shrapnel and panic and hurt. Luna has always seemed so much more confident than he's ever been. ]

Yeah. [ he isn't relaxing any, but he does ease his grip on her hand just a little. his own hands are trembling faintly, and he keeps searching her face, eyes wide and bright. it feels like if he blinks, she might disappear. ] I just found the Crystal, Bahamut was talking to me, and then — just, weird doors. It's been... maybe a little over a month? Since you...

[ his eyes are burning, and he blinks hard to clear them. he's not sure how much of his dictated path she knew about. they talked about the prophecy when they were children, the Oracle and the Chosen King, but she was always vague. maybe she did know all along; maybe she was just too kind to tell him he was born to be a sacrifice. gods, he's been trying so hard not to think those words. seeing Luna makes it feel — too close, too sudden.

there's this stupid, wild impulse to just run away right now and take her with him. he doesn't have any idea where he'd go, but he looks at the mark on her throat and he wants to bundle her up somewhere safe, because he only just got her back, again, and someone is going to take her away from him, again. Luna can take care of herself, he's never doubted that, it's just— the things this place wants, the things it threatens. he can't even think about what that means for himself yet, there's no way he can bear with it coming down on Luna. he's wanted all his life to help her and the fear that he's useless again now is choking him like weeds growing out of his lungs. ]

They can't just— hand you off to someone. [ he shakes his head, vehement. ] I'm not gonna let it happen.

[ please don't make him let it happen. ]
starblessed: (pic#11857959)

[personal profile] starblessed 2018-10-16 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
[She only seems confident because for so long she's had to be. What might the people of their world think if they looked to their Oracle to find her meek and cowering? No--she'd supported their people the only way she knew how: by becoming steadfast, immovable in the chaos of the burgeoning night.

Yet as Noctis speaks--a little over a month--her gaze drops to their joined hands, unable to meet his gaze at first. But when he trails off, she meets his eyes again.]

Since I died.

[She means to say something else, to tell him that it was her choice, that she has no regrets in what she did, but before she says anything more he's continuing, shaking his head with his resolve. And yet... can either of them really stop it? Their entire lives they've been pulled apart by one force or another; why should they find more than these brief moments to be together?

Now her eyes are burning, her smile turning bittersweet as she tries to keep any from falling.]

And what should become of you then? [There are enough civilians here to make any battle dangerous, and gods only know how many of the waitstaff are capable of more. Luna hasn't seen it for herself yet, but she's heard that there are consequences that befall those that try to fight what this city calls the "natural order" of things.] Our world needs its King, Noctis. Far more than it needs a fallen Oracle.

[It feels like they're children again, fleeing from soldiers through the trees. Again, Lunafreya knows that she has to be the one to act, to take the initiative because Noctis--like Regis before him--won't leave her behind if he has a choice in the matter.]

We're here together now. No matter what should happen tonight, we will find each other again.

[There will be a rare moment of silence for once in Nike's life. It had nothing to do with wishing to pay attention to the guide, being awestruck by her surroundings, or the unfair treatment of other people -- of submissive labelled people just like her -- instead it had a lot to do with the woman sitting next to her. An amazing beauty was sitting next to her, was the only opinion Nike could form by watching her in the corner of her eye.

The formal air about her, which was filled with so much charm and class, left Nike pondering over the meaning of being the "Lady of the World King" title. This woman's image and mannerisms was a clear example of the way Nike needs to reach and act as. Luna's words over apologizing to every princess for being the worst example of one was echoing loudly in her mind. It was the reason Nike will wince at the sudden voice.]

S-Sorry for being such a failure of a-- [Oh wait, she was talking about the situation surrounding them, wasn't she? With her cheeks glowing red, Nike will lower her head in shame, feeling like she not only may have made the worst first impression to someone who outclasses her in every way, but she was an embarrassment to her own country.] A-Ah, I mean, yeah, I suppose... [A slight pause in an attempt to find her footing, noticing the natural way the other woman can speak with such grace, even when she was feeling peeve by their surroundings.] ...um, it may all be very unorthodox, the way their social structure works, but I feel there may be a reason behind it. I don't think we know the whole story to it and...

[There is going to be a sigh, realizing she may just be talking in the way her grandmother expects her to be -- to remain neutral.]

Honestly, I'm curious to know the history of this city, its values, and the feelings of those in our class truly feel about it. [Another pause will be given as she remains in deep thought.] If we don't understand the situation, then we can't do much about it...since our principals may result in the same reaction we're having...and it gets harder to find common ground to have a civil discussion..... [Was she stupid to think like this? Somehow she feels stupid for even speaking the way she was without offering the young woman next to her some type of comfort. She can only imagine the mixed feelings she was having too.]
starblessed: (pic#11990464)

OH NO she's adorable

[personal profile] starblessed 2018-10-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
[An apology is the last thing Lunafreya's expecting when she finally speaks her mind. For a moment, she's startled, but her expression quickly settles into something more neutral as the other girl stumbles, then finds her way again.]

You speak truly. And yet, no government can hope to rule its subjects' thoughts.

[If she herself isn't proof of that, who is? Luna has lived her life in the shadow of the Niflheim Empire, a prisoner in spite of her status. But no attempt at control had been enough to change who she truly was inside... she believes, she knows--this cannot be blindly accepted as their guides would have them believe, can it?]

I doubt this city's citizens will be able to speak their minds so freely. How can they, when they know not if there are those among us that might try to use it to their own benefit?

[She hates thinking of it. Lunafreya would much rather believe the best of everyone at all times, and indeed, were she face-to-face with such a person, she would still approach them with sincerity and honesty. But there are those who are not so privileged, those that might be hurt should their beliefs be used to bring them harm.]

But perhaps, in time... they may find cause to trust us. Then we might learn how they truly feel about such shackles.

[At first he honestly mistook Lunafreya for being almost alright with things thanks to the poise with which she carried herself, up until it started getting rather obvious she was in fact very much not alright with things. And when she speaks...

Well, there's one potential ally here right out the gate.]

Somehow I doubt they really seem to care too much, the whole place seems built on this strict idea of betters and lessers... but I wonder if they know what they're inviting, dragging people into this like this?

[He's not a "burn it to the ground" type, always a firm believer one can usually do more good without resorting to outright violence, but he doubts everybody being dragged into this is going to feel the same way and he's already noticed some of these people are anything but normal.]
starblessed: (pic#11990464)

[personal profile] starblessed 2018-10-17 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Do they know what they're inviting? She can't think of any scenario where the powers that brought them here wouldn't... and yet, even as the words cross her mind, Lunafreya thinks that perhaps they don't.]

It seems difficult to believe a power capable of taking us from our own world and bringing us to this place could not comprehend the desire to be true to one's own self... yet, for how long have these people been divided? It may be all they know.

[But if that's the case, there's a lot that they, as newcomers, can teach to the poor folks that have been pigeonholed into these stringent classes. How many of their Submissive class believe themselves to be flawed in some way, to be a failure if they do not meet the criteria their world has proclaimed they must meet? She hopes the people here do not, but Lunafreya is no stranger to the pressures of the world.]

If it is, it is a façade that will soon be broken.
