« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « A. WAIST. OF. LEEWAYS.

The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation.

Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues.

Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same.

» » » THE KEY TO HEARTS

Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive.

For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall.

Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

Sebastian St. Battenberg | The Infinite Bad | Dominant

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-15 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Lies Travel in Company

There's a large man on the train. A very large man, for as human, anyway, only a few inches shy of seven feet. He has bulky shoulders and a broad torso, and while he's no longer young - mid-forties, perhaps? - he still has the vital energy of a boxer or a soldier. A certain loud straightforwardness not generally seen in people of more technical or gentler persuasions. He wears a well-worn gray suit that appears to be from the very early 20th century, for those familiar with that fashion. He's also sporting a bushy mustache and a pair of small, round glasses.

If he'd been sitting quietly on the tour, all this might have gone unnoticed. But he isn't. He's moving from seat to seat down the aisle, asking questions of anyone willing to respond. His voice is gruff and hearty, and he does smile when he talks, but the smile is growing strained as he moves down the cabin, starting to look more and more like a pained grimace.

"No, look, I want to know where we are. Not the name of the city. What country is this? Surely that's not that difficult a question!"

A Waist of Leeways

"I say!" Sebastian bellows as he exits the elevator into Room A. "What is this nonsense? Is this a doctor's office? A torture chamber?"

He strides around the room, looking for a door. It's clear to anyone else in the room that he is absolutely unaware of what all of this is actually intended for.

"Are these cages? We don't approve of slavery where I'm from, is what I have to say to that!"

There's a young man in the room with him, or at least what appears to be a young man in body anyway. She yelps and nearly leaps out of her skin at the sudden bellow, already on edge having been stuck in this room.

Robin is much shorter, pale skin and hair far to white for her apparent age, with thick stitching running down the left side of her face. She's dressed from a similar era, though when she speaks she's very noticeably French.

"I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that!" She says, clutching her chest from the start.

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-15 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Sebastian turns to look at what appears to be a boy to him. He takes in the accent, the stitching, the young face and white hair.

"I say, lad!" he exclaims in his booming voice. "What happened to your face?"

[personal profile] soulstitched 2018-10-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Robin blinks at the man, then folds her arms across her chest. "What a rude thing to ask of someone you just met!"
stbattenberg: (glasses profile)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-16 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, quite right, my apologies," the man says, and he sounds quite sincere, but he continues on just the same, "Was it the war? War does terrible things to a man."
soulstitched: (09)

[personal profile] soulstitched 2018-10-16 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Well. Crap. She's never actually had to explain the stitches before. "War does terrible things to everybody!"
stbattenberg: (interested)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-17 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes. Yes it does." There's something distant in the man's voice, something that makes it clear he's speaking from personal experience. But just as it seems he might be distracted from Robin's stitches by his own melancholy thoughts, he turns to her again, staring at her quite rudely.

"Did it happen to you, too?"
soulstitched: (14)

[personal profile] soulstitched 2018-10-17 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Robin can't help but feel bad for the man. She hasn't spent a lot of time with humans, but she can tell when they're hurting. Not that she has any clue how to help at the moment.

"Ah.. I suppose that would depend on the 'it' you are referring to?"

[personal profile] whatsina_name 2018-10-16 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Phillip doesn't really need to take the train. He can teleport, after all; but he does feel like he winds up missing something when he does that. Today, apparently, what he would have missed was this. He's not sure if that means he should have just teleported or not.

"It is actually a ridiculously difficult question," the boy replies dryly, looking up at the towering man. Lean and a good foot shorter than him, Phillip is not any kind of threat, but he does look a bit put out by someone getting up in his face.
stbattenberg: (glasses profile)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-16 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't see how," Sebastian protests. "Unless the name of the country is something unpronounceable. Lot of foreign places with difficult names."

He seems to he thinking faraway thoughts for a moment before focusing on Phillip's face again. "Is it that? Or does no one know their geography around here?"
whatsina_name: (Phillip [What are you doing])

[personal profile] whatsina_name 2018-10-16 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
"You're on the right track. Kind of." Welcome to Duplicity, where nothing makes since and your opinions on it don't matter. "I'm pretty new here too, and no one seems to want to answer any questions about where we are. I genuinely don't know where we are, and they might not either. I don't think it's Earth, though." At least, not any time period of it that he would be familiar with.
stbattenberg: (Default)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Where else would we be?" the big man asks with a frown. "This isn't some sort of story from the pulps, that 'science fiction' rot."
whatsina_name: (Phillip [Uhhhh])

[personal profile] whatsina_name 2018-10-17 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
"The what?" ...He feels like he should know what 'pulps' means, but he's just thinking orange juice at the moment and he's pretty sure that's not it. "I mean. It kind of is. Science fiction, I mean. Without the fiction part." So just... science? ...This has already gotten away from him a little bit.
stbattenberg: (patronizing)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-17 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Good lad, not polluting your mind with that nonsense," Sebastian says approvingly, as he claps Phillip on the shoulder with one meaty hand. "But what are you talking about? It's just a city ... though I'll admit the trains are quite a bit fancier than what I'm accustomed to."
whatsina_name: (Phillip [Uhhhh])

[personal profile] whatsina_name 2018-10-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
He's so confused. Time to get back on topic. "I mean, I've met a bunch of people who are from countries I've never heard of on planets that I don't think exist in the galaxy I'm used to. It's a little more complicated then just being in a new city."
stbattenberg: (glasses profile)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-19 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Sebastian pauses. He's seen a lot of strange things in his time, but that just doesn't make sense.

"I'm sure you just misheard them," he decides. "Yes, that's it ... probably a lot of foreign accents and names, I'm sure."
whatsina_name: (Phillip [What are you doing])

[personal profile] whatsina_name 2018-10-19 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"I definitely did not mishear them," Phillip says flatly. He's not trying to be a dick, but the sooner this guy comes to terms with how far from home he is, the better.

Lies

[personal profile] paradoxpoint 2018-10-16 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The young man he addresses is dressed in a considerably more modern and newer three-piece suit, slicked-back hair giving him an almost stern look. The unimpressed expression on his face might seem deliberately unfriendly at first, but that's just how Arthur disguises the fact that he's out of his element, uncomfortable and reeling from having been essentially kidnapped into a social experiment.

"That'd be because no one here really knows."
stbattenberg: (bruiser)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-17 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
That's all right, Sebastian doesn't pay much attention to other people's expressions, he tends to just barrel forward regardless of any subtle social signals he might be receiving.

"Well, someone must! You can't have a city where no one knows where they are!" Sebastian insists, indignant. "Who's in charge here?"
paradoxpoint: (and he says)

[personal profile] paradoxpoint 2018-10-17 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Listen," Arthur begins, leaning back in his seat and giving Sebastian a more pointed stare. "I'm a new arrival, too. I know just about as much as you do about what the hell is going on here."

And he really doesn't like it.
stbattenberg: (interested)

[personal profile] stbattenberg 2018-10-19 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah, excellent!" the big man exclaims, as if this is somehow very good news. He leans in, his natural bulk making him loom menacingly, even when he doesn't intend to. "Then you can help me!"
