« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « A. WAIST. OF. LEEWAYS.

The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation.

Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues.

Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same.

» » » THE KEY TO HEARTS

Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive.

For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall.

Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

[She frowns slightly after listening patiently. Her voice is calm and even-tempered, but there's a thread of iron in it.]

You are not just an android. Please do not say that, as if that makes you lesser. You may have been created, but you are no less a person. Plenty of humans serve other humans, and giving them their due respect is only ethical and correct. You are clearly a sentient and reasoning being, and to be a combat model on top of that risking your life for others...yes, I concede some may say that is your purpose and would not look beyond that, but it is because it is that you command courtesy.

[If she is made to fight, perhaps to die, respect is the least they or anyone can give her, or any other android for that matter.]
a2brutus: (010)

here it is, gAy2

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-15 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Quickly, A2 casts her gaze downward, head tilted that way too, to avoid looking at this woman head on. It's... Awkward. It's strange, and she feels guilty for saying something that displeases this human, and at the same time, there's the familiar surge of something else.

Love.

Affection.

Relief.

Nothing she deserves, but things that this human is willing to give her, even unknowingly. To be told that she isn't lesser than her creators, to be told that she deserves respect, just because of what they've given her. It's... Mind boggling. Her pulse is still racing, and her cheeks are still flushed with coolant, staining them a ruddy colour that almost goes down her neck..
]

That's... Humans gave us this. [In a way.] I don't think it's nearly the same thing. [She says, unsure nervousness causing her to grip the smooth black metal of her arm. She doesn't want to say anything that causes Amane to be upset, but at the same time, how do you explain to something that created you that you're lesser, by your very nature?]
voreaciously: (85)

im so glad, but yeah, lord, this thread is not straight

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-15 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Amane reaches out to tilt her chin upward so she's looking at her. Amane is an idiot genius, her understanding of others can be very limited at times, but she is in her element here--she would have to be, with the life that she's lived.]

A2, you have not spoken out of turn nor displeased me. [She is not entirely certain, but she can guess at her sudden change in demeanour, it's what she would have expected in any entity she might have programmed, herself, and these are common enough working emotional parameters--that is to say, We Cannot Upset Our Creators. It is very important to Amane that she know that.]

Humans are not a monolith. They are flawed, imperfect, and very frequently wrong about a good many things. It may not be the same thing, but it is not so different either, but tell me, why do you feel it is different? I wish to hear from you, please.
a2brutus: (020)

im sorry i had to. take a moment. this thread is intense. i cant believe this is just a tdm.....

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-15 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[The touch alone is making her sensors light up, and she's almost left reeling from it. A humans touch is cooler than an androids; they're not super computers, after all. And yet, A2 still treasures it, the not quite warmth.

Her creator has touched her, willingly.

She keeps her hands to herself, fists balled at her sides appropriately as she tries not to lean into it like a needy dog.
]

To us, you're perfect. [Is all she says, to begin with, and her lips purse, and she frowns, circuits that are still in a tizzy trying to process all sorts of sensory information at once.] You're our gods. You made us, and you gave us life. We wouldn't exist if it wasn't for you. Isn't it appropriate to show you our respect? To do whatever it is you ask? It's not like dying means much to us. We can backup our memories. [... Well, not anymore, but Amane doesn't have to know that.]
voreaciously: (115)

WE CAN MAKE IT CANON. also take your time im having a blast she just has so many feelings

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-15 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Gods are perfect. Humanity is not, and I know quite well how difficult it is to think otherwise [programming is one helluva drug.

But, also...her own mother is a deity to her, whether she would admit it or consciously realise it or not.]
but consider something: Miss A2, do you know what else creates? What else sires life?

Parents.

If we made you, we are responsible for you. We need to care about you. To make something is to bear the joy and burden of that creation. To do anything less is irresponsible.

The point I am here to make is that you are not...empty tools to be used and thrown away. You are not lesser. Each and everyone of you is a miracle.

[Her tone is nearly breathless is how much she believes in that, in how much she wants her to know and believe in that.]

That there are stringent, clinical commonalities in your creation, that you are very pointedly built to certain specifications, far more regulated and perfect than any human birth riddled with potential for error, and yet that you can be who you are, how you are shaped by your experiences in spite of that is miraculous.

[She tries a different tact.]

If you are moulded by the hands of gods, that makes you, in turn, divine.

[She shrugs, an elegant motion, and here the corners of her lips turn up in a small, rare smile. She has always had these for those made, not born.]

That is worth at least a modicum of respect. I will not give you any less than you deserve.
a2brutus: (019)

i posted to the tdm expecting A2 to get railed, i just didnt think it'd be emotionally

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-16 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
[It's too much at once, what Amane is saying. She's uncomfortable. She's filled with feelings of admiration. She's overcome by guilt. She wants to accept the love offered. To cherish it.

To place this human up on a pedestal that's unreachable, despite what she wants.

The humans on the moon are unreachable. They're a myth.

But this is a real one, here, in front of her, telling all these soft, warm things, and if she had a heart, it'd flutter. Instead, her blackbox pulses, and she vents an overly heated breath.
]

I don't... want that. I haven't earned it. Not yet, at least. [Is what she settles on, because she just can't bring herself to accept these words, but she still wants to give this important human something, beyond dismissal.]
voreaciously: (5)

i am here to deliver ;Dc

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-16 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
You fight for humanity.

[She says this a bit slower, not because she thinks A2 is dumb, but because she wants to drive the point home.]

Do you feel fear, Miss A2? Have you ever felt doubt, regret, frustration, anything negative at all in your life?
a2brutus: (020)

UGH!!! this is so good... heck

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-16 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[It's a trick question, and one that leads to an uncomfortable silence from her as she furrows her brows and gives quite the look of concentration. Does she admit to anything?

Does she admit her weakness?

Does she admit the fear of losing friends? The doubt of her mission? The frustration of constantly losing people and the overall overwhelming sense of despair at knowing that nothing she fights for matters?

A2 decides to lie, but the consideration of the statement likely tells a different story from what she says.
]

No. I haven't.
voreaciously: (12)

i'm so glad

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-16 07:51 am (UTC)(link)
[It is fine. Amane waits as she puzzles it out, and though she is not directly privy to her thoughts, she has some guesses and the silence that stretches is far more telling than her words ever could be.

She holds nothing against her.

It's her life, she is not owed anything at all. So she continues to stand there with infinite patience until she is given an answer.]

I might not know what you have done specifically--and I would like to--but...

[And here she curtsies gracefully, deeply, her head bowed.]

From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for what you have done. I have no doubt you have worked very hard to serve your function. It pleases me more than you could know to have met you, Miss A2. I thank you for the unique pleasure.
a2brutus: from tsunderoid (014)

i need more icons this is awful

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-16 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's wrong.

Amane's actions toward her are wrong. She's not-

She doesn't deserve it. It sends her processors into a tizzy, the action. The curtsie and the deep bow of her head.

A2 immediately drops into a lower position, one knee bent, left hand over her chest and head bowed so deep she's looking at the floor. She mumbles, and fumbles her words awkwardly, because it's been so long since she's said the words.
]

It's an honour to serve you. Glory to Mankind.
voreaciously: (41)

wahahaha

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Amane does not rise. Instead she lowers herself to her knees so she is on the same level as A2.

Slowly, gently, she reaches out to hold her face to turn it so she is facing Amane.]

At ease, soldier. That is not necessary.
a2brutus: (020)

the eyes emoji, but its vibrating

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
[She's grabbed before she can go lower, and she's forced to look one of her creators in the eyes. It's intimate.

There's a sensation not unlike a shudder that runs through her systems.

She's silent, but her icy blue eyes are watchful all the same, almost like she's expecting something, but she's not quite sure what it is.

It's funny. Her mouth feels dry.
]
voreaciously: (168)

[good shit hand]

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Miss A2, if I may say so, you are exquisitely made.

[So Soft and Warm.]

And I am quite certain I do not even know the half of it....truly, you are quite beautiful.
a2brutus: (020)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm run down. [She replies.] I'm just a prototype. I shouldn't even exist anymore.

[She says, trying to gently urge the topic the other way. These aren't things that her creators should be saying about her. She's dirty. She's beaten up. She's missing large portions of her skin.]
voreaciously: (91)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
If the shell is damaged, then it can be repaired. [She shrugs lightly, though she is not dismissive of serious damage.] I am afraid you will have to do better than that.

"Just a prototype". Hmrph. Do you not understand? To be a prototype is to hold potential, to carry hope. The best future cannot be realised without the efforts of what came before. Obsolescence [she says, the word familiar on her tongue, yet still very wanting.] is often overrated.

[It is something very personal to her, actually; even as she seeks to better herself and her own creations, she disdains waste, as a matter of principle and because she gets attached.]

Listen to me. You exist and have every right to. Anything that came after you would not have been possible without you. It should be a source of pride, and I am sorry if you were not treated that way.

[It saddens, angers, and bothers her, to hear her say that. The construction of a prototype can mean so many sleepless nights, the frustrations of setbacks, the joys of progress, the surprise of happy accidents, but no matter what happens, everything experienced is done so together.]
a2brutus: (020)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[It really, really is too much for A2. This pep talk, of sorts. She doesn't deserve it, by the very innate coding in her system. The same coding that tells her to love humans unconditionally, also tells her that she's lesser than them.

They're both kneeling on the floor, but A2 isn't aware of how weird they must look. All she's aware of is that one of her creators is trying to comfort her, and it just proliferates the feelings of guilt.

She tries to be gentle, grabbing Amane's hand that's holding her face to pull it away.
]

I was created to be destroyed. Myself and the others, we were only made as tests, to gather data. We weren't meant to survive our first mission.

[And she can't help but think, it'd be easier if she hadn't.]
voreaciously: (64)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[There is a flicker of something on Amane's feelings like hurt or guilt when her hands are moved, but she doesn't fight her and folds her hands in her lap.

She listens patiently, calmly, attentively, her eyes slipping shut by the end as she exhales.

Such pitiable waste.]

Data is important, incredibly important, and it is one thing to sacrifice one's life for critical information, but that method--creating others to be destroyed--is unacceptable. It is an impractical and lamentable waste of resources for one, but far more critically, those are lives. I have to wonder at the intelligence of those responsible for the mission and greater project.

[Her voice, though calm, is cutting in its evaluation of the situation. She does not hide what she thinks of it, it offends some of her deepest sensibilities.]
a2brutus: (019)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[She's not saying what YoRHa did was right. She's not even saying that she accepts what they did as necessary, but it is what it is, and the truth of the matter is that she wasn't designed to last as long as she did.

The truth is she learned things that YoRHa didn't like, and she had to be disposed of.

A2 can't bring herself to tell the whole truth, so instead, she looks away again, silent.
]
voreaciously: (26)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps it is a bit more complicated than that, my apologies. I can only speak to what I would have done, and yet, even that may be easy without full knowledge of the situation. Forgive me, I spoke out of turn, it is simply...very important to me.

[Still, that A2 is so loyal even after knowing that, suffering that...that is some programming. Those are some feelings.]

But you are here, now. Even if it was not intended, even if you were slated to die, you have not. And you should not be thrown away after the fact, either. No matter the circumstances, I do firmly believe in that, Miss A2.
a2brutus: (010)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Y'know. I never expected my creators had the capacity for such kindness.

[Not YoRHa, but the original makers of the Android race. Humans. Sure, she has memories to draw from, but... This is different. This is real and in front of her, not through someone else eyes millennia ago.]

My programming wont allow me to see you as anything but superior to me. I'm alright with that now. [At least Amane deserves it. She can't make a call about humans as a whole, but if even a small number of them are like her, A2 is proud to have served as she has. It won't bring back her fallen friends, but it does bring some measure of peace to her.]
voreaciously: (69)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[holy shit A2, don't say that so bluntly. it's her turn to go pink and she stands up abruptly, gesturing to her to do the same.]

Please stand up. I-I am not especially kind, truly this is common sense to me, really!
a2brutus: poorly done caps by this journal (Default)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Naturally, A2 stands on command.]

I think you are. I've only just met humans since arriving, but you're worth protecting.
voreaciously: (86)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[SHE'S GOING TO ASSUME THAT IS GENERAL AND NOT HER SPECIFICALLY--wait]

Only just met...? Have you never met humans before now?

[but. what]

But I thought...that is your function. Were you simply stationed far away from any?

[Which, well, Amane's feelings on humanity are complicated, but imagine never meeting, never knowing the object of your purpose.

Wow. Sucks.]

a2brutus: (019)

[personal profile] a2brutus 2018-10-17 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Both. A2 will now die for you.]

Humans... only exist on the moon. Androids are fighting to reclaim the earth so that one day they can return to it. [She says, knowing that it will never happen.]

There aren't many androids that exist that have ever met any humans. They've been there for thousands of years.
voreaciously: (89)

[personal profile] voreaciously 2018-10-17 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
[💦]

Do they? They've managed to colonise it? Ah, what a feat of engineering, I would dearly love to see it, especially the necessity of gravity on such a scale, is it self-sustaining or--wait, why are they on the Moon? You say reclaim. What has happened?
