« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « A. WAIST. OF. LEEWAYS.

The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation.

Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues.

Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same.

» » » THE KEY TO HEARTS

Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive.

For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall.

Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

[The dominant is just going to sit in his lap then? That's fine. It is. He wished this sort of thing happened more back in Camp Dragonhead but he supposes you need to count your blessings where you can find them.]

I suppose so.

[But now it's just all the more tempting to keep running his fingers through those feathers. He doesn't... it's sort of the equivalent to someone fussing with his ears. Just cause it's different doesn't mean you should be prodding... They're just... very pretty.]

Well. Since we're to be quite close for the rest of the ride do allow me to introduce myself. I am Haurchefant Greystone of House Fortemps and it is truly a pleasure to make your acquaintance. [This sort of introduction seems like something that would come out of a cheesy yet filthy romance novel... and he loves it.]
terraria: art source: remnim@Twitter (● ?)

oh my god not that kind of bad romance

[personal profile] terraria 2018-10-15 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Just because it's different doesn't mean you should be prodding, yes, exactly.

Which is why Aspen raised a curious set of fingers to brush across the slope of Haurchefant's ear. His violet-blue eyes were momentarily captivated, and for once, Aspen didn't feel the need to yank his hand back. Wasn't this okay? His wings were touched, so he could touch in return, right? His fingertips are soft, uncalloused, but he does actually drop his hand when he remembers he should be speaking. ]

I am...

[ He hesitated.

He had so many names now. He'd chosen Aspen so far, but... ]

Aspen of Petir. A pleasure to meet you as well... Sir Greystone, is it? How should I address you?

[Oh. Okay. Alright. Haurchefant does a poor attempt at witholding a very pleased shiver that courses through him as his ears are so gently stroked with incredibly and unfairly soft fingertips.

Perhaps this is one of those eye for an eye scenarios. His ears are remarkably sensitive and it's a small miracle that he doesn't just moan out loud which would have been only mildly embarrassing. Worse things have probably been done and said on this train. And with a dominant in his lap no one would question it too much. Probably...

Thankfully Aspen successfully stomped out any fluttery feelings by addressing him as Sir Greystone. That's... Well, technically not wrong but unpleasant to the ears in a stomach twisting way that hasn't gone away after all these years. It's just not a thing you ever really get used to. Thankfully it can be corrected quickly enough.]

Just Haurchefant is fine. I am not one for titles or great formalities. And will just Aspen do for you?
terraria: art source: remnim@Twitter (● well~)

let haurchefaunt have a nice wholesome romance

[personal profile] terraria 2018-10-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's been a long time since he was 'just' Aspen. Six years?

Prima, Nova, Prince, Aquila...

Feels like a lifetime away. ]

Yes. I don't have any other titles. [ It's a bold-faced lie, but... that's alright. No one needs to know. ] You, you sound like a fairytale, though. Haurchefant.

[ There's a quiet, subtle accent to Aspen's pronunciation - it's not exactly wrong, but clearly there's a difference between his native language and this one, with the way his voice pitches slightly higher at the vowels like a melody. ]

Your ears are sensitive, are they not? I apologize. I should not have touched them. Yet, I've never met anything besides myself and a human, so I was curious.
mostsplendid: (pic#12507546)

I mean... I guess it's what he deserves.

[personal profile] mostsplendid 2018-10-16 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Ah? Do I? [This pulls a soft laugh out of him.] That's quite flattering. But fairytales are full of great heroes and champions of that I am not. But I know true heroes. Those that do incredible things with little reward. I fear I must confess that I am just a knight. No more and no less.

[He has met a hero and he can not compare to their merit. Would that he could fight by their side and defend them at ease. But he cannot. He lacks the strength to be what they need. But oh... how he admires them dearly. He does not compare to their light.]

But it really is alright... They are but I don't mind it all that much. It's normally appreciated to be quite honest. [Different world different standards and it is a bit important to reign in that normal behavior that was bearly acceptable back at Camp Dragonhead.] You are correct... I am not a Hyur... or, hm, human as you called them. You are also the first I met who is something different. And likewise, you have my sincerest apologies for touching your wings. They're very beautiful and truth be told I've never quite seen anyone like you before.
terraria: art source: remnim@Twitter (● ?)

okay tbf by 'wholesome' i mean 'wholesome but with kinky sex'

[personal profile] terraria 2018-10-16 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Aspen found himself smiling nevertheless, shaking his head idly. ]

From my experience here, those who think of themselves as just background tend to be the same people who should have stories written about them. You'll be in good company.

[ He thought of Hakuno, of Ja'far... definitely some of the more interesting people he's ever met. ]

I've found that while there is a population of nonhumans, we don't tend to spend our time out and about. I'd imagine it's all the hu - ... Hyurs? [ His hand drifts to his mouth, trying out Haurchefant's word for them. ] All the Hyurs around. It can be daunting.

[ His expression morphs into some guilt. ]

Ah - it's alright. My wings are sensitive usually, but... I've been molting the last few days. They are overly so, now. I'm usually more than happy to have my wings stroked - it's very calming. [ As long as people aren't doing it too much... ] You're headed to your accommodation, aren't you?
mostsplendid: (pic#12629247)

puts my hands all over your once empty inbox

[personal profile] mostsplendid 2018-10-17 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Mayhaps that is true... Though those that have stories written about them certainly deserve it. His thoughts go to the Warrior of Light though perhaps their Scion companions deserve tales of their own too. Young master Alphinaud and the ever sweet Tataru and those that were lost during the betrayal at Ul'dah as well...]

It's alright. I like Hyurs... but it is very strange to not see at least one other Elezen. [Considering how Ishgard operates it's actually quite strange.]

Ah? Yes... I've only just arrived. [And that itself is a bit strange considering his last memories of Eorzea...] I hope this is not a rude question but I was curious what your kind is called. I have seen Miqo'tes which have feline features. And Au Ras which have ah... I hesitate to say dragon like qualities but that is very much what it is. But never once have I been fortunate enough to meet someone with feathered features. I am uncertain if such beautiful beings exist in Eorzea.

cruel and unusual punishment

[personal profile] terraria 2018-10-17 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
'Elezen'... what you are, I assume.

[ Aspen tilted his head up a bit, listening to the voices to make sure they were still on the right track. Yes, seemed so. ]

My people are called Aurain. We're quite birdlike, but I am a more abnormal example of them. They're usually... much bigger.

[ He closed his eyes, a bit of red on his cheeks when he admitted it. It didn't bother him. It was fine. ]

Why would you hesitate to say they have 'dragon like' qualities? I've heard dragons exist in other worlds.
mostsplendid: (pic#12431227)

[personal profile] mostsplendid 2018-10-18 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. That's right.

[Aurain is a very pretty name for a very pretty being.]

Really? Much bigger? Are your wings not functional then? It would seem that the smaller you are the faster you are and easier it is to get airborne.

[That's how it is with chocobos at the very least. The smaller the better in terms of speed. But if Aurains can't actually fly then it hardly matters. Wings are a pretty lofty bodily accessory though, he must say.]

Oh. Well... we have dragons too, in Eorzea. My city has been a war that's lasted a thousand years with them actually... [It's over now, he thinks. It should be over. But he can't be certain. With the Lord Commander free from the Vault and the Warrior of Light by his side surely everything got squared away proper. Of this he's quite confident.]

But... well. My people have not made all the right choices in the past... or the recent present, really. There was an incident once where a great many Au Ras were mistaken for Dragons due to their appearance. They have scales and tails and horns but... if you've seen a dragon you know that that is not what they are. And they were killed. So calling them dragon like seems most unkind. They're a beautiful race and what happened to the tribe that came to Ishgard is nothing short of a tragedy.
terraria: art source: CHOCO Nabe (Rec.) (● crash.)

[personal profile] terraria 2018-10-18 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, no... they're perfectly functional, I fly quite often with them...

[ Well.

He makes a face. He did in the weeks coming up to his arrival, anyway. He couldn't say he got much airtime in Petir. The wrinkle of his nose disappears as he listens, both confused and fascinated. A thousand-years war with... dragons? How did one even war with such a force of nature?

His back stiffens. ]

Just... because of how they looked - ?

[ Aspen squeezed his eyes shut, wings rustling suddenly in both worry and fear. Would that have happened to his people, his parents, he wondered... were they mistaken as angels and killed because they feared Aurain as specters of death?

He didn't want to think about it. ]

I suppose humans aren't the only ones capable of such ill deeds...
