« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « A. WAIST. OF. LEEWAYS.

The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation.

Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues.

Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same.

» » » THE KEY TO HEARTS

Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive.

For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall.

Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

"sometimes"

Somewhere Jody Mills is stabbing her spoon repeatedly into a bowl of oatmeal, ready to grab guns and peel out because Claire didn't make her scheduled call at the scheduled time.

She never was good at structure, not after losing her parents, all the organization and the hope- it died down when the innocence did. The burden of it is that she wants to tell Sam how much this sucks, how much she doesn't want to picture him with anyone because gross, but she can't because the dutiful routine is the only thing that is saving them in the face of this people retail buyout sale.

The audience claps as another submissive is sold to stock and Claire feigns of a look of pleasure and musters her best golf clap. Heathens. This is something out of a bad mini-series.

She doesn't bother replying to Sam with another smartass remark this time. They already had enough conversation between things unsaid and cleverly poised body language. No need to tire out the routine.

"How nice. I'm sure they're thrilled."

and "great" (also here's a small time jump!)

It's the last thing he really wants to do, but Sam knows better than to think that he should loom over Claire for too long when he's ostensibly here to scope out potential Submissive matches. He'll excuse himself casually enough, but he's definitely keeping tabs on her for the rest of the evening, as close as he can manage without being too obvious about it, and he'll be taking note of anyone who seems to be showing a little too much interest in her. Just in case. Yeah, she's a Dominant, and there's enough of them around tonight that the way back shouldn't be much of an issue, but he just doesn't trust anything about this place that much.

There are small slips of paper and pens aplenty, for the purpose of assigning escorts home - nothing too overt, but it would be notably rude to refuse, and Sam won't bother when there's apparently no expectation of more at the end of it. But he will palm one of those slips of paper, writing his apartment's address on one of them and slipping it into Claire's pocket as he brushes briefly past her one last time before heading out. He could just send it to her over their given phones, but in this case a bit of a paper trail is a lot easier to hide than a message that would undoubtedly be recorded and sent to Chuck knew where.

It's hours later by the time he finally reaches his door, finally alone, and as he steps inside he's already shrugging out of his suit jacket and pulling off his tie. It'll still be a while before he considers going to sleep, but getting out of this get-up and into the shower is a much higher priority.

If she shows up at all tonight he expects that it won't be too soon, but he will leave the bathroom door open so he could hear knocking, just in case.

The implication of the night left Claire feeling dirty too, but she didn't trust her own accommodations yet, so she wiped herself down with a damp towel and tied her hair back in favor of an actual bath or shower.

Black chipping nail polish was still left over from the last time she had some real time with her sister. Each flake that fell away felt like another piece of her old life that she wouldn't get back. Hunting was never the best case scenario, but it was a world she belonged to know, and normal was a word that could never apply to her again. More so now., because life just loves layering the bullshit on thick.

She made it over to Sam's place after she had some time to deliberate, and get her wits about her. She had washed her makeup off during the process of her slum bath, and old bruising from hunting still remained, faded blue against the porcelain white pallor of her skin.

Knocking seemed kind of stupid, and an unnecessary call to attention so Claire helps herself inside with a trusted bobby pin and takes a full sweep of his digs. They've all been worse places.

"Hey, doofus!" The door was closed with the heel of her boot a long time ago, the lock flipped firmly back into place. She goes the extra mile to keep things under wraps by pulling the drapes and dimming the light. Better to look like he's headed to bed, instead of conspiring with a fellow captive. "I'm here."

If Sam knew more about his neighbor across the hall he might have left the door unlocked, security in these uptown dwellings is obviously in place, but since he has no idea who's over there he's not taking any chances. To say that he's unsurprised to hear Claire's voice ringing out through the apartment even over the running water would be an understatement, and he's at least glad that she gave him that much of a warning before barging in on him. It's bad enough that by all outward appearances they're sneaking around like forbidden lovers, he's not gonna have a conversation with her while he's in any state of undress.

He's pulled on a grey t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants by the time he emerges from the bathroom, still toweling off his wet hair.

"It's a good thing you didn't bust into the wrong apartment." That would be one way to meet new people. He pauses, looking past her to the darkened windows. Well, they're already here, to hell with what that neighbor or the ever-present apartment staffers must think. He's finally able to relax, letting out a breath as if he's been holding it all day, and the look he levels at her is all exasperated concern.

"Did they make someone walk you home too?"

His own walk hadn't been bad, really, but it did give him a lot of time to think about the rules that had been set out for him when he first arrived. It wasn't just contracts that they were pushing around here.

There's something very pacifying in the way that Sam looks now. Dressed down in sweats, with wet hair, you'd almost consider him a nine to fiver with no experience killing people or monsters. No hand at all in the fate of things. It's the first time she's ever seen either of the brothers come close to non-threatening. Normal, and like a person that someone could actually confide in without hitting the wall beforehand.

"You guessed it," the walk didn't bother her. In a weird way, it was comforting, just on the off chance she got attacked. The possibility for it in this new setting was a lot more likely. The whole setup played right into the situation, and it's not something she ever wanted to face again.

Claire leans back against the first surface available to her and takes a second to read the room. He's so at ease in these situations, and she can see that her future will probably end up very similar. At some point, a person gets desensitized. "So, what we do know so far? You're the information station."

Sam's not really thinking about the fact that as much as they've been through together, Claire's missed out on a lot of the whole Winchester experience. She's had her own, but she's never seen him at his worst, at his most mundane, exhausted or hungover, sometimes both. Relatively few people ever get to see him just be human rather than the hunter, but that's exactly what he's feeling now, stripped down from practically everything he knows and thrust into a reality where everything just feels a couple of shades off at best and completely bizarre at worst.

He all but flops down onto the comfortable, velvety dark green couch across from her, shoulders hunching forward until his forearms are balanced across his knees. He could still be standing on point, guard up and ready for anything even with Claire here, but he can only stay like that for so long. Eventually the adrenaline wears off and he has to get some rest if he wants to have any hope of staying on top of his game.

And her trusts her, obviously. If she were to be out to stab him in the back at this point, he'd be tempted to think that it might be time to call it quits anyway.

He takes a deep breath, his gaze briefly dropping to the rug as he attempts to organize his thoughts into some semblance of order so he can actually answer that question with at least a little confidence.

"Not much yet aside from what they've already told us. You understand how the basic system works already? With the contracts and the monitoring?"

Because god, he's not going to talk any more about the fact that they're all being pushed to have sex if he doesn't have to, but she needs to understand it. The way they portrayed the Sexual Liberation process they mentioned is obviously something to avoid.

As much as she might want to stay there across from him, beside the doorway, up against some random divide in the decor here the need for companionship wins her over and without making too much of a fuss about it she finds herself on the same sofa, albeit pretty far from him, just for measure. Claire hasn't been able to get away from the feeling that she's being watched since the start.

"I know enough." Ultimately, whether they wanted to or not they would eventually need to make a good friend, with benefits, if they wanted to stay above board with this whole fucked up process.

Her eyes roll into her skull, from one shit show to the next. Her memoirs were going to be next level. While deliberating on the sheer awkwardness that is now her entire life, Claire brings one leg up and rests an arm over it, a nervous habit she never quite got rid of. It's nice to be lanky, makes for some built-in armrests and quick escapes when you need them. "Any plans? Please tell me you made it in with a good sidearm. An angel blade, or something."

It's not hard for Sam to admit that he's sorely lacking in the companionship department himself. For all the pushing that this place does to make them get up close and personal with people on a regular basis, it's all too easy to feel alone and isolated, as far away from home as he's ever been. It's definitely no Hell, but that's an impressively low hurdle to clear, and leaves plenty of room for more low key misery.

Maybe there will be things to hunt here. It probably wouldn't help them much with the overall problem, but it would be something. Part of a routine which is perfectly normal for him, and at least comfortably familiar for her.

"They're supposed to send my things back to me tomorrow. I'm hoping that at least the angel blade made it across with me."

Guns were typically easier to find, and he could manage without his own if he had to, as much as he wouldn't like to. The angel blade, on the other hand, wasn't something he could just casually replace. They've never been easy to come by, even lately now that it's not unheard of for angels to come down to earth.

Sam glances over at her, taking in the way she's curled up into herself, close but not too close, and frowns. She's holding up extraordinarily well given the circumstances, but he doesn't think she's nearly as impervious as she would like people to think. He's seen a lot more shit than she has, and this place is getting to him too.

"Hey." He leans back, straightening his back and rolling his shoulders back. The arm toward her slides back, pointedly, and he jerks his chin at her slightly to emphasize the point. "Come here."

Of course it's an invitation, not a demand, but now seems like as good a time as any to make up for the hug that had to be cut short earlier.

[personal profile] wiseass 2018-10-17 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that they're sending his things back to him at all isn't promising. One angel blade isn't going to be enough to get them out of here, but with a plan, it might be something they could use as collateral. If they found whoever or whatever was responsible, it could be a good bargaining tool. Provided it meant anything here or even held the same power.

After a day of weary reflection, Claire's started to think that the usual suspects aren't to blame. If this was angels or demons, it'd be easier to figure out. So far they've come up with nothing. Sam was the smartest guy she knew if he didn't have leads yet her hope for resolution was dim.

His experience dwarfed her more than his sheer size did, but she wasn't sitting with him because she needed consoling. Claire was stronger than that, later on, she'd kick some holes in the wall of her own room, cover it up cleverly, use it as a stash spot for later. Life on the lam taught her how to hit the ground running, even when she made mistakes in the heat of the moment.

A reminder that intimacy didn't have to be sexual won out in the end, and it's all too easy for her to fall into the embrace just to allow herself the small reprieve. Something solid, to remind her that this is real and that she's not alone. It's not the longest hug, she's still not big on PDAs or actions that require vulnerability. Her life hasn't been kind in those areas. Formative years got the better of her, especially after the Grigori. When she pulls back, to save face, she adjusts the knot keeping her hair up. She's seen most of her family die, but this was brand new territory for her. Claire didn't like not having control, or a strategy, she'd come to rely on quick escapes and on the fly thinking.

"What now."

[personal profile] conscitus 2018-10-17 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Sam's not too proud to admit, even if just to himself, that embracing someone he cares about - who's warm and alive and definitely really here with him - is something he needs too. Yeah, he wouldn't have any trouble finding someone willing to offer him whatever intimacy he might want, but none of that means anything. It's a reality they're both going to have to face, but at least tonight can be a much needed reprieve.

"Now we gather as much information as we can without rocking the boat too much."

He leans a little more into the soft cushions of the couch after she pulls away, feeling very much as if he could fall asleep here rather than the huge, luxurious bed that waits for him in the next room. This is all a huge shift from the hole-in-the-wall motels he's used to, and even from the much larger but still fairly utilitarian bunker. It doesn't do much to make him feel like this is anything but an elaborate illusion. He's never lived like this. Never wanted to, quite frankly.

"I wanna know how long this city's been here. Who built it and why. How they're bringing all these people in, because if this is earth, I don't think it's in our dimension at all. If I can get together some reagents there are some spells I want to try too, to see if they work here."

He grimaces briefly. Everything he does will have to come from memory, since he doesn't have the library at his disposal. It's a resource that he already sorely misses.
