It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the deceit gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the LIEs program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the deceit gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from LIEs after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of Orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high-rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until Orientation! Participation is mandatory for all new and past arrivals. It's the hottest part of the summer. Prepare to sweat. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in Orientation, LIERs are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERs at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() (cw: aphrodisiacs, dub-con, groping, public nudity, public sex) It's summertime! To beat the heat, LIEs has decided to throw a pool party directly following Orientation at one of the city's public pools! Attendance is mandatory for new arrivals and strongly encouraged for everyone else. New arrivals are provided with (skimpy) swimsuits to wear, but LIERs who have been in the city a while have the option of bringing their own gear. Of course, skinny dipping is allowed as well, and there are many spots on deck for people to tan themselves. Speaking of tanning, why not help out a fellow LIER by rubbing some lotion on them? Or, if you want to avoid a burn, get someone to put sunscreen on your back? The formulas of the complementary products that LIEs provide may or may not have a mild aphrodisiac added to them, but at least you won't burn and you may get that nice golden tan you've been chasing — all over! While one end of the pool is reserved for people to splash around in or float casually, there are numerous games and water activities for people to join in on as well: In a sexy twist on Marco Polo, though in Duplicity the call and response is "lucky" and "get me," the seeker must try and tag other players by tugging at their swimsuits. They'll be rewarded with 30 seconds of foreplay, groping and whatever else they can accomplish within the time frame. Dominant and Submissive pairs face off against one another in piggyback chicken fights or jousts using inflatable toys and suggestively shaped pool noodles. Are those dildos stuck to the bottom of the pool? You bet! Dive down and retrieve them before handing them to the next person behind you to toss in and dive for or just collect as many as you can. There is, of course, the option of using said dildo on yourself or someone else for others to watch and enjoy on the pool deck. No judgment here. For those who prefer a slightly more private option, there are curtained cabanas available and it's easy enough to duck inside with a partner for a quick tryst. |
![]() (cw: aphrodisiacs, dub-con, altered mental states, miscellaneous kink) Whether it's the obnoxious, telltale jingle that signals the arrival of ice cream trucks, or the vehicles happen to be spotted in their various parking spots all around Duplicity — including some smaller carts made to navigate the narrower streets of the Down, it's obvious that they're popular considering the warm summer weather. It seems the locals can't get enough of the cool, sweet treats on offer — and, even better, the trucks are offering free samples in addition to selling regular sizes. Popsicles and soft serve ice cream are on the menu, and each frozen bite has its own unique set of effects. The menu: Want sprinkles with that? Enjoy your added aphro! |
![]() (cw: dub-con/non-con, pet play, leash and collar, training/discipline, exhibitionism) A new public park has recently been built on a formerly empty lot in the Up. The bigger sign on the gate reads "Dog Park," and the smaller sign adjacent to it includes the posted rules that all people need to abide by in order to enter. If you're curious about what such a structure entails (after all, there are dogs in Duplicity), you're in luck: today, there's a meet-and-greet being hosted for pets and their owners, sponsored by a local "pet" shop, with banners advertising the event posted at each end of the park. This is a Dog Park, alright, but it's intended for a very specific kind of play involving the LIERs who want to wear the collars in question as well as the LIERs who are interested in holding their leashes. Even if you've never harbored an interest in it before, don't worry — random bystanders will be enthusiastically pressured to join in by event volunteers, so you might find yourself wearing a collar or holding a leash in very short order regardless. All pets must be collared and leashed properly in order to enter the Dog Park, and owners must remain in close proximity to their pets at all times. There are toys for tugging and fetching, a few pieces of special playground equipment, and more than enough space to run around. There will also be obedience challenges issued to various pairs at random, just to see how in sync both pet and owner are with one another. If you decide to participate and remain on your best behavior, you might even earn a nice treat in addition to a pat on the head. The pet shop will be handing out goodie bags consisting of take-home collars, as well as animal tail plugs and other sex toys and gear, to everyone who takes part in the event, willingly or not. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but the assignments are OOCly randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: If your character is a night owl, they are a Dominant. If your character prefers the daytime, they are a Submissive. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to tag on new TDMs with different designations for fun! Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

nothing short of an earthquake would make her drift from him, settled in closely and stepping into the elevator by his side, tucking in closer when they're enclosed in the small, restrictive space.
a sadder smile for the ugly crying that she knows will be coming from both of them, and then those questions. she frowns, grimacing to the side. ] Orientation? What, they want us to gain a freshman fifteen, too?
[ she shifts so she's facing him, on her toes again to get the perfect gaze into his eyes. ] You're alive, El. That's all I care about. I... [ her bottom lip quivers ] thought I was gonna lose you. For real. [ and she leans up further, face tilting to his, kissing him on the lips, arms wrapping around his torso.
it won't be all she ends up caring about regarding their world, not really, but this moment is the most important one to her. it's not an answer to distinguish where her curiosity may be piqued more toward, but she needs this. just to hold onto him, already feeling like she's going to start sobbing then and there in the damn elevator. ]

Can't get rid of me that easily. But yeah, there's orientation. This place has a lot of rules, Bambi. You and I are lucky - we were already perverts when we got here, so fitting in is gonna be less of an ordeal, but... whatever. We can talk about all that shit later.
[He only lets go of her for long enough to get his door unlocked and flip the light on, and then he's clinging to her again as they enter the apartment he shares with Quentin. It's surprisingly cozy-looking, with a big squashy couch and a number of cushions on the floor. There are potted plants on almost every surface, and a small sewing machine currently taking up residence on the table.]
Here, let's... Let's get you sat down, and I'll run and find something for you to put on. Are you, do you need water? You probably haven't eaten anything, either.
[While he fusses, those tears he's been fighting off since seeing her start to well up.]

she shifts back into him as they step inside, glancing around at the atmosphere. she's about to ask if someone's gardening grandma lives there too when eliot speaks again. her attention turns, letting herself lean into him for several more seconds before she takes a careful step toward the couch. slowly, gradually, head angling down to watch her feet, listening as she does, hand reaching onto the couch's surface to guide herself down, tucking her side directly into the nook the corner creates, both hands splaying onto the arm.
her eyes flit back up to eliot, chin starting to quiver when she sees his eyes getting wet. one hand reaches up to wipe away tears from one of her own eyes, heart hurting that she knows she'll make a fool of herself if she stumbles back up to rush over to him. falling on her face doesn't sound like a great addition to her already stumbly physical state. there's a lot more to say, but she can only get out a few affirmatives based on his questions. ] Water, food, and anything that actually covers my ass.
[ she'll stare in the direction he goes, really not wanting to lose visibility after she's already lost physical contact, her heart beating fast from anxiety. ] El. [ a beat, knowing he'll turn around. ] Hurry, okay?
no subject
I'm sure Q won't mind if you borrow some of his things for a bit. They'll have brought your clothes along with you, they should be in the apartment they assigned you, but these'll hold you over until then.
[He clears his throat, swallowing thickly as he fills a glass with water and pulls a pre-made sandwich out of the fridge, returning to the couch and sitting pressed up next to Margo.]
Okay, so, I'm actually gonna try and hold off on that crying until you've got some food in you, that will probably help you not feel as wobbly. Um... I guess I can fill you in on what's been going on with me? Since I'm future Eliot, from your perspective? I'm really not that far ahead, I promise, but, uh. A lot of shit went south, getting that monster out of me.

there's that distinct scent of wearing someone else's clothing too, complete with detergent she's unfamiliar with, but mostly -- ] Yeah, smells like him. [ her voice is soft, endeared, happy to be blanketed in another familiar anchor even if quentin isn't able to be there quite yet.
her face turns to watch eliot, staring at him as he walks back, sits down, pressing right up to him, hands taking the water and sandwich. she takes a drink, throat dry, food being set on the couch's arm.
eyes never leave him, but she doesn't go to eat as he's speaking, not wanting anything to steal her focus. her heart skips a beat when she realizes he's about to dive into details of her future. she'd desperately wanted to hold onto him being alive, that the monster could just hop bodies, but every day, every interaction with that fucker, had left her slating more toward hopeless. she'd never give up on him, it's just that it got harder and harder.
she rubs a thumb over the sandwich, looking at it, knowing it's obvious that she's anxious to have him reveal more. ] How'd we get it out? What was the collateral damage?
[ she should probably eat before she feels sicker from however this conversation might go, but she has to ask the obvious. ]

Okay. This is a long, awful story, so bear with me. Um, this first part I only know secondhand, since I was, you know, not myself. I was awake in there, but I couldn't see or hear out or anything, so I don't really know the details of what went on while it still had me. But apparently you were the one who got me out? You went on some kind of desert spirit quest and got these badass axes that could undo possession, and I think the original plan was to try and hit me in the arm or something, but...
[Eliot pulls back just enough to lift up the hem of his shirt, revealing the huge twisted knot of scar tissue that takes up the right side of his torso.]
I'm not complaining, by the way, as long as it worked you could have hacked pieces off of me and I'd have been okay with it. Um, the thing was, you got it out, but then you guys just... had it in a jar, somehow? And you needed to get rid of it, and I wasn't any help because I was bleeding out and magic wasn't even back yet, Lipson had to do muggle surgery on me... Anyway. Um. It went bad. They got rid of the monster, but... Quentin didn't make it. They, uh - Penny and Alice - they said there... wasn't a body to bring back.
[Eliot has to stop there, eyes pinched shut while he takes another few deep breaths. Quentin is fine, he reminds himself. He's at work, but he'll be back later and he'll have dinner with you like he always does, and you'll go to sleep in the same bed because he's alive and he's fine.]

her brows furrow hard when he starts to explain how she went on a quest, got axes, eyes flickering with anticipating delight. yeah, the story is going to be awful, but how can she not relish in that, her heart expanding several sizes just from it being her that got him out.
she slides back only to leave enough space between them to get a good look, grimacing, fingers stretching out, hand wanting to reach to touch him there. instead, she lifts one hand, running the backs of her fingers comfortingly along his jawline.
a jar. her brows furrow, frown over muggle surgery having been done on eliot, and her breath stops when he says that quentin didn't make it. the next names are barely registered, only that two of their friends are mentioned. margo reaches down, squeezes the top of his leg, fingers curling into his thigh and her tone is angry, ire splashing over her tongue. ] No. They didn't try hard enough. Someone. [ a beat, stubborn unwillingness to accept this surging up. ] They could've done more. They had to. He can't. No.
[ she swallows, eyes starting to tear up again, gaze flicking down. she started this being solely concerned about eliot, and now it's being replaced by worrying over the life and security of the one person she just can't admit could die. it's quentin coldwater, integral part of every quest worth anything.
her touch on his leg eases, hand lifting entirely and coming up, tenderly curling her palm against his cheek. her tone softens by volumes. ] That's what you had to live through, El? Not...not having him. [ her heart aches, tightens, every cord and thread of her capacity for emotional connection pulling in every direction. ] I. I'm sorry, El. I...I know how much he means to you. To all of us.
no subject
Actually, there's a lot he could cry about right now, but he gamely tries to press through for the moment. He deliberately doesn't want to spend too much time on the immediate aftermath of Quentin's death, or he really will break down again.]
Yeah. I don't, um, you were with me during the surgery, so that's why we weren't there. We had a, I guess a memorial? Since we couldn't do a funeral And then, uh, there was something going on with Fillory, like, it had jumped forward in time by a few hundred years and was being controlled by someone called the Dark King. I, uh... I was pretty drunk most of the time, while all this was going on, so. Details aren't gonna be my strong suit.
But, we were trying to focus on getting you your throne back, and saving Fen and Josh. Which, you and Josh were kind of a thing? I don't know for sure how serious a thing, but a thing. And we, um, I'll try and get my thoughts together more later, a lot of stuff happened, but Fillory was destroyed. You got everyone out in time, and we had this... spell, to create a new world, so you, uh. That's where you went.
[He has to take another moment to hold his emotions back. When he starts speaking again, his voice is small. Hurt.]
You left me. I, I couldn't cast, I'd, my fingers were broken. So you and Josh and Fen and, and Alice for some reason, you went to New Fillory, and... and I couldn't find you. We didn't have a portal, and Penny couldn't locate it since he'd never been there, so... so it was just me. I tried to find you, but I couldn't figure it out on my own and everyone else had their own stuff going on, and Q was gone, so. Henry let me work at Brakebills, I guess since he felt sorry for me or something. And that's what I was doing when I got brought here.
[He shrugs, tears finally starting to fall down his cheeks.]

her forehead creases and that maintains for the whole time he speaks, each detail heavy, thick. she's powerless to do anything other than listen, so she puts every fiber of her energy into doing just that. lips quirk faintly at the idea of her and josh being a thing: hey, she could see it? not the most important part of all this, though. she reaches to squeeze his hand when he pauses, knows the impact his emotions, what he's saying could have.
margo's chest tightens, no breath comes, vertigo threatens to spill in again even though she's sitting. she left him? god. her dark eyes start to shine too, but her jaw goes rigid as her teeth clench, fighting back tears to let eliot cry, to let him have these moments as both their hearts ache. ]
Eliot. [ her own voice feels distant, foreign to her, now that he's let it spill that her future self will abandon him. in pursuit of saving fillory. margo shifts, moves, slips one leg over his, letting her knee press and rest between his legs. gentle, unassuming, but not shy about getting closer. both of her hands wrap around either side of his face, and she leans in to kiss him fully on the mouth, long and warm, pointed and purposeful.
when she draws back, her throat makes a soft crack of emotion, even as she huffs out at her own inability to keep it together, for him. a tear rolls down from one eye, followed by another, and another. ] Magic is fucked. But I'm here now, I promise, promise, I won't leave you like that.
[ she knows she can't change that future of hers he speaks of, but she, somehow, is very earnest, deeply sincere, about how much she means what she says about her life now that she's in duplicity. even if she's been there less than a few hours.
her head tilts down, eyes all but boring into his, small and sad but pointed smile slipping onto her lips. ] You're stuck with me again, bitch, and you better fuckin' love it.
no subject
After a while he clears his throat, face kind of blotchy.]
I, uh. I don't know if you meant to leave me, if that helps. Like I said, I couldn't, you know, cast. If I'd been able to help with the spell, maybe things would have been different.
[He shrugs, scrubs his face with his hands, then lets out a quiet, wet laugh. His hands don't seem to be broken currently, but if she's looking for them Margo is able to see a number of small, silvery scars across all of his fingers.]
Fuck, Bambi, I missed you so much. I'm useless without you, I know that's not, like, a secret or anything, but I really felt it this time. You're really lucky you made it here now and not, like, when I first showed up. I was a real wreck. Worse than after Mike, even.
wanna fade this? i love them :3
she eases back, worry line set in the middle of her forehead, tries for a smile that's at least familiar to them. small, true, emotionally heavy with eyes drowning in adoration and appreciation for him. fingers from one hand reach to run sideways along his when he reaches up, the gesture meant to be soothing, to connect with him even more. but then she sees the scars, and her heart hurts all the more. she breathes in as he wraps those words up, swallowing at the mention of mike. ]
Look at us, finding even more ways to go through hell and back. [ cynical, thick, but sincere. ] None of that kind of breaking down here, now that we're together again, not without us coming together. Being there for each other. Always. Okay?
[ hearing how broken eliot's sounded over some of these details, hearing about what happens in the future, with quentin. margo has to take the moment to be as precisely, passionately intense about this.
she dips her face toward his again, kissing him on the cheek. ] Not gonna do any of that not talking about shit again. I love you, El.
[ and she's grateful for being there. for him. even if it's a wildly insane place to be. she knows that they can get through it, together. ]
