It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the deceit gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the LIEs program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the deceit gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from LIEs after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

... and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of Orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high-rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Submissives are provided with a plain black pleather collar to wear and Dominants are given bracelets made of the same black pleather. The simple design is an immediate visual indicator that they have not yet signed a contract and they will be informed that more elaborate or personalized styles are a privilege reserved for those who do.

» » » ALL ABOARD

After stepping through the door and participating in Orientation, LIERs are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERs at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

The featured workshop at this month's Orientation is a trust-building "ropes course." Deepen your bond with your partner and explore the balance between restraint and freedom, as well as the power dynamics inherent in this hands-on learning opportunity. You'll discover the beauty of patience, communication, and connection as you weave intricate patterns of rope around each other's bodies.

The class portion of the workshop is brief, featuring demonstrations by NPC Dominants and Submissives, after which characters of opposite designations will be paired up and expected to replicate what was shown. Printed handouts from LIEs will be passed around with step by step instructions for their reference—though some may be less than clear, or only include pictures and diagrams without written directions. Do your best!

Want to escape the unpleasantness of the Down? Arrivals are encouraged to partner up and participate in an ongoing public art installation in the Up where they will be invited to shed inhibitions and embrace the raw essense of self-expression through a unique medium: their stained bed sheets. The exhibition is being held in Fiddler's Square's very own Stay & Play Hotel where pairs may rent time in a special reserved block of rooms to work on their intimate canvases. Uncontracted pairs may get a steep discount, or even a free room if they are convincingly passionate. All sheets in these rooms are reactive to moisture of any kind, and each room is stocked with complimentary lubricants and body paints.

Through tactile engagement and artistic interpretation, attendees redefine the unity and celebration of their designations coming together and celebrate the complexity and beauty of their experience. Unleash your creativity, and join in defining the art of expression.

The Down isn't a very pleasant place to be, especially for newcomer Submissives who are forced to live in public housing. While the state of the building complex is nothing to phone home about at the best of times, this particular month it's abysmal. Much needed repairs on the plumbing have been ignored for far too long and, after a particularly chilly winter, the hot water heaters are bust. They need replacing, but who is going to pay for that? It'll take some time and a bunch of bureaucratic red tape before the water in the city-provided housing turns warm again. Enjoy your cold showers for the foreseeable future! Or, y'know, suck up to a Dominant and ask them to use their shower.

But wait! There's more! As if the plumbing problems aren't bad enough, there is also some kind of gas leak, and a nasty one at that. It doesn't seem to be flammable and no one will be dying in their sleep, but that's the only good news. The fumes from the gas are invisible and also odorless, leaving unsuspecting Submissives (and anyone else who visits the building, for that matter) at the mercy of the effects. In the common areas of the building the exposure is the strongest, but it still seeps into character's rooms as well.

Inhaling the gas will leave characters feeling loopy and more open to interacting with others. Some may find that they're feeling extra cuddly and needy, if not outright horny because of it. The rarest—and one of the least pleasant—side effects are the hallucinations some characters may experience, causing them to mistake others for people they may know.

After a few days the leak will be repaired, but it'll take a few more days following the fix for the building to be aired out completely.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but the assignments are OOCly randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide:

If your character is more lawful, they are a Submissive. If your character is more chaotic, they are a Dominant.

To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to tag on new TDMs with different designations for fun!

Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game.

[For better or worst Diva is blunt and painfully honest at times. Lying isn't something she does, despite her devious streak. At his agreement she giggles, happy to have something more entertaining than this to look forward to. There's a slight grunt out of her as the rope tightens around her. She's not bothered though, now that everything's been reframed.]

Okay. That sounds nice Lilia. [It did sound nice.] I'll behave here but I can't promise I will when we're alone.

Oh, I'd rather you don't, dear. If there's anything I couldn't adore more, it's how adorable a feisty girl or guy can be.

[ With that comment, he focuses his attention on finishing this task as quickly as he could, without his knots being too sloppy due to the rush of them. His hands occasionally slip to her waist, pulling her close to him and making some little comment about how good she was doing.

At last, he finishes, standing in front of her, his hand on his chin. ]

My, my, I might've just outdone myself...

[To her credit, Diva's managed to remain still as he works his magic and ties her up. She does seem a bit uncomfortable but she does well to endure it. As she watches him look her up and down, appreciating his handy work, she can't help but wiggle a bit.]

You think so? Why? Do you like what you see?

[ One sharp index finger presses under her chin, his eyes focused completely on her. ]

How could I not? The most essential piece to this work of art is you, after all. ...How does it feel?

Not terrible.

[She smiles at him at the feel of his finger beneath her chin.]

But that's because you did a good job, I think.

[ Another giggle escapes the man, his hand moving back from her chin to allow him to rest it on his own chin, thinking for a second. ]

Hm, yes, that'll do just fine. [ He tells himself, before glancing aside. ]

I think that's all we need to do, Lady Diva. I can free you and we can get out of here for that real fun, if you're ready.

Mm, I'm ready, I'm ready!

[She squirms a bit more, clearly ready to be untied and move onto far more interesting (and fun) prospects.]

Get me out of this.

Okay okay!

[ Less-than-careful fingers undo the rope, trying to get it all off in a timely manner. Once it all does fall down from her, he offers a nod, and then a hand, upturned so his palm faces up. A proper way to ask for a royal lady's hand! ]

Where to?

[Eagerly she takes that offered hand, not wasting a single beat as she gives him a playful tug.]

Home, with me of course. My cottage is far cozier and nicer than this place ever could be.

Lead the way, then, and I will follow every step of the way.
[ It's true - Lilia is able to be tugged along, a small laugh escaping him as he allows the playful tug from her to begin leading him out of here and to her cottage! ]

[It isn't too far of a walk to get to her cottage, Diva relinquishing his hand to unlock the door and push it open to welcome him inside.]

Here we are! Make yourself comfortable. Did you want anything?

[ Such a cute little place, befitting of someone like her. Lilia smiles all the while, shifting to unzip his boots. Gods, those were the only things keeping him even an inch or so above her. With this, she'd see he was even smaller, once he removed those heels.

No time to be embarrassed about something so small. (heh) ]

Oh, no, no, I'm perfectly alright. Thank you for welcoming me into your home. It's a very cute place. Lots of character, charm.

[Don't worry Lilia, Diva likes her men small. Short kings are her favourite item on the menu, and while he's slightly shorter than her without his heels it's not by much.]

Thanks! It belonged to my first Dominant. When he left I inherited it. It's been me and Tsurugi's home for a few years now.

A few years? Hmm, you've really been here a while, then...

[ Stepping out of his boots, he takes a few steps over towards her, slipping his hand against her waist, leaning in enough to almost press a kiss to her cheek, but stopping short. ]

Where do you want to start? A kiss, a conversation? I shall leave it up to you how we begin, if you truly want to do this. If you decide, I could keep you company for the night instead.

[Keep her company for the night, huh? As fun as that sounds, to have a sleepover with him...she can't. Not when Tsurugi has returned. There's only one person she wants to share a bed with at night these days. Sure, it'd be different if they went out and ended up at Lilia's place but it'd be wrong to just shove him into a spare bedroom and have Tsurugi come home later to the two of them at night here in their home.]

I'd like that but...maybe another time we can have a sleepover, hm?

[She turns her head slightly to face him, leaning into the touch.]

Where do you want to start? I'm rather chatty if you don't keep my mouth occupied.

[ Aw, how cute of a response! A sleepover, is how she referred to it. He couldn't hold back his giggles at the idea of a cute sleepover between the two of them, with lots of sweet treats and blankets! Oh, but that'd be a whole other mood, and after the plans they'd made.... ]

Hmmmm, how should I occupy that pretty mouth of yours? Ah, but you said someone already had your heart, so is kissing you off limits?

[ This question is followed up by his fingers resting under her chin, his thumb pressing against her bottom lip. ]

It's not.

[Her lashes are low as she looks back at him, poking the tip of her tongue out to press it playfully against his thumb.]

We both have sex with other people and do that sort of thing. It's just how this place is.

[Even if the thought of Tsurugi kissing someone else or being with someone other than her in any capacity makes her still see red but she won't think about that right now!]

You can kiss me all you want. How lucky for you!

Oh lucky me!

[ It's not quite the same as lifting a partner's eyes to look into his, with her being the slightly taller one, but there was something alluring about the way she looked down at him, with those low lashes--

Leaning in, his piercing eyes meet hers, his lips oh so close to hers. What better way to let anticipation build than to look into your partners eyes, to make them wonder when you're going to finish what you've started?

He stays put there, a sly smile resting on his expression. ]

Then, is that something you'd like?

[Oh the anticipation is building all right. She has to catch herself, to make sure she doesn't start drooling as she stares down at Lilia. He's exactly her type in so many ways it's hard not to feel overly excited.]

It would be.

[More than something she'd simply like.]

I would love it.

[ Lilia's free arm snakes around Diva's waist, carefully pulling her in, to press her against him as he continues to let that anticipation build. He's sure of what he's doing, sure of his every movement.

Only when she says she'd love it does he break some of that stoic act, a small laugh helping break it. His hand carefully shifts from her chin to instead cup her cheek, carefully leading Diva forward into a kiss.

It's gentle, at first, as if he's being careful with her, considering those sharp teeth of his. Then again... she had some sharp teeth of her own.

Still, royalty was meant to be treated with respect. For now. ]

[The kiss is something she immediately leans into and returns, lips parting as she presses back against him. She's mindful of the fact they both have mouths filled with fangs and sharp teeth, but that doesn't dampen her eagerness by any means. If anything, it only makes her more excited.]

Mm...Lilia...

[Playfully she licks at his lips, just because she can.]

[ It's all too easy for Lilia to tilt his head into the kiss, deepening it as he feels her lips part ever so slightly. His own follow her lead, parting slightly as her tongue licks at his lips.

Humming quietly into the kiss, he takes a step, pushing her slightly to press her back against the nearest wall, as his tongue slips out from between his own lips to try and slip into her mouth, to explore there. ]

[She follows his lead, letting him back her up against a wall, eager to meet his tongue when it enters her mouth. She toys with it with her own, a soft giggle in her throat that turns into a moan.

It's always fun to be with someone who's just as playful.]

[ The kiss might have been deepened, but it's sweet, playful. There's nothing about it that's intense in any way. He found no need to get so intense or rough so quickly with her - after all, they were here to play, were they not? He didn't need to rush it.

His thigh shifts between her legs carefully, pinning her there against the wall. Breaking the kiss briefly, he begins to trail a few careful kisses down her jaw. ]

I know I'm going to be tying you up.... [ He hums against her skin. ] .... But I want to get a good taste of you first, before I leave you a squirming mess.

Eh? But you already tied me up earlier...

[There's a pout on her lips as she tips her head, allowing him more access to her jaw and throat. A hitch in her breath is easily heard along with a swallow.]
