It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the deceit gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the LIEs program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the deceit gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from LIEs after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ...and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of Orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high-rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Submissives are provided with a plain black pleather collar to wear and Dominants are given bracelets made of the same black pleather. The simple design is an immediate visual indicator that they have not yet signed a contract and they will be informed that more elaborate or personalized styles are a privilege reserved for those who do. Enjoy your free time until Orientation! Participation is mandatory for all new and past arrivals. Summer has bowed out, the chill of autumn prompting people to pull out warmer jackets, hats and scarves to ward off the chill. Grab a warm drink and enjoy the cooler weather outdoors while you can! |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in Orientation, LIERs are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERs at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() (cw: cock rings, sexual compulsion, random kinks, thought sharing, public sex) In a continued effort to use Orientation activities to help test compatibility and gently encourage commitment, LIES decides to bring in a symbolic practice they've heard about from other cultures. Apparently, it's said that rings can represent promise. What better way to promote the promise of a good contract than through a pair of rings a Dominant and a Submissive make for each other? And so, for Orientation, participants attend a short, three-hour ring-making course. People are assigned a partner of the opposite designation if they didn't come in with one, and they will be tasked with making a ring for each other. In just one afternoon, pairs can pick out strips of silver, cut and bend them to size, and have fun soldering, hammering, and sanding them into just the right look. By the end of the course, everyone is expected to place the ring on their partner’s finger for them. Ring-making is a surprisingly complex process! But not to worry, helpful instructors linger around the room, ready to guide everyone through each step. Don’t be alarmed if they hover meaningfully around everyone around the simple, but unfamiliar, and potentially dangerous tools. They're just looking out for your safety, so hopefully no one minds if they watch everyone's every move, very closely. Mandrels of various girths are on hand - clearly to accommodate fingers of different shapes and sizes! But the staff won't ask too many questions if they notice a mismatch in size between someone’s fingers and the ring they might be making. In fact, they might ask if a Dominant needs help fitting the O-ring they’re clearly making into their Submissive’s collar, or… perhaps they’re making a ring for something else entirely? They may give a little wink and a nudge towards one of the backrooms in case people need to double check a partner's… size. They might even suggest this option themselves if they notice pairs looking hesitant or wary about this whole affair. To personalize the rings, letters, numbers, and even simple shapes or designs are offered at certain steps of the workshop. Metal ring stamps can be used to hammer a simple design into the metal before the ring is shaped. These are perfectly normal and will surely have no lasting effect on your finished product. It's recommended to use the first letters of your and your partner's name (a long word won't fit!), or maybe a few numbers for the date today, but everyone is free to do whatever they like. Some options of designs include letters, numbers, shapes like hearts, stars, suns, moons, and tiny spirals. When first worn, one of the stamped designs may inspire a particular effect on the wearer:
[ooc: ring effects may or may not take effect again (after it is removed and then worn again) at a player’s discretion.] |
![]() (cw: aphros, intercrural, frottage, cockwarming, blood play, cum marking, vanilla sex, public oral sex) Scattered about the Up and Down are flyers for a pop-up autumn-themed outdoor market in Fiddler’s Square. Entrance is free to all, but if a Dominant and a Submissive arrive together as a pair, they will be given a set of four coupons to exchange at the stalls. Various baked goods, sweet beverages, and handmade trinkets, soaps, and clothing can be found for one to indulge in, but the star of the market seems to be a booth sponsored by Temptation Acres. Goods at this booth come from an apple orchard on the outskirts of the city and range from warm, aphro-spiked cider, apple baked goods with their signature apple pie as one of the main draws, and a station set up for people to make their own candied apples. Dominants and Submissives alike are welcome to dip apples in various toppings to their liking, but are encouraged to do so together in pairs. If so, their apples will be complimentary. Unsurprisingly, said toppings have various effects when consumed:
There is also the exciting chance to win free apple pies for a whole year (and a complimentary apple gag!) if one participates in the sponsored apple pie eating contest. Put your hands behind your back and your face straight into pies that look rather suspicious (NSFW). To be a winner of the competition, one must finish a whole pie with their hands remaining behind their back and, with the help of the aphro in said pie, get someone off with their mouth. Pie for a year is worth it, right? |
![]() (cw: body horror, confessions) The weather in Duplicity is as unpredictable as ever. From fierce, sudden storms comes a gentle, autumn chill that has much of the city reaching for sweaters, scarves, and warm hats… But for some, the chill settles deeper still. Somehow, the cold reaches into the chest, or their very core, leaving them hollow, aching, and hungry for something they can't quite name. They say this season is about finally letting go - but what happens to those who aren't ready yet? For any character who has someone - or something - that they miss deeply, the ache intensifies. Longing sharpens into a heavy weight that hollows them out, makes them feel like they are being eaten alive from the inside. Their breath seems to fog unnaturally even when they're indoors, manifesting in wisps of smoke that look like they are warm, but offer no comfort - only an encroaching cold that is impossible to ignore. The smoke itself only thickens the longer it is ignored. It starts to smell more and more of wax, burning flowers, or strong camphor. It clings to hair and to clothes, even for those who try to hide it. No amount of bundling up seems to help, no food or drink will fill the growing void, this cavern of yearning that threatens to freeze them from the inside out. But warmth and relief aren't entirely out of reach; when the feeling is named, when names are shared, when the yearning is acknowledged even once, a spark of heat rises up like a flame inside. It grows the more the connection is stoked - through a story, a confession, maybe a confrontation. Physical contact can help too - a warm embrace, a kiss, or more. Whatever it is, as long as it's something real and vulnerable, it can restore the warmth and the life back into a body. But until then… the smoke keeps rising, and the cold will spread until it's eaten up its victim inside. |

So, what's happening?WITH THIS RING - Orientation includes a ring-making workshop for Dominant and Submissive pairs where one character makes a ring for the other. SWEET AND TART - There is an autumn-themed market in Fiddler's Square. It sells baked goods, warm drinks, handmade trinkets, soaps, and clothing for the season. SMOKE AND SILENCE - Characters are overcome by a feeling of missing someone or something |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but the assignments are OOCly randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: If your character prefers apple picking, they are a Submissive. If your character prefers pumpkin carving, they are a Dominant. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to tag on new TDMs with different designations for fun! Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game. Top level comments are for new or returning characters only. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

Sweet & Tart - Dealer's choice as to the apple variety!
Astarion has bought an apple cider, but he's not drinking it. He assumes it's going to do something, and he'd rather be home with Wrathion when he conducts an experiment.
Not that everyone is quite so cautious. He sees the devil taking a generous bite and clears his throat gently.
"You ought to be cautious, darling. If it's free, you'll be paying for it regardless."
Caramel and nuts!
"Well, the joke's on them because I... have nothing of value to pay with." He doesn't even have a job. This city can do its worst.
no subject
He twitches a smile, as if he's said something particularly amusing.
"Very well. Less euphemistically, giveaways here tend to be laced with exceptionally forceful aphrodisiacs."
no subject
no subject
"I'm afraid not, darling. This city will have its quotas met, and it doesn't care whether you're sober or even consenting."
His lip curls in distaste.
no subject
"Why is this city run by perverts?!"
no subject
"A perennial question, though I'm sure they would argue that we're all wretched, uncooperative prudes. You at least have a little more autonomy afforded to you than some of us," he adds, without rancour, and gestures to his own collar.
no subject
He misses Millie. And even the fun things in this city are messed up, apparently.
no subject
"You're going to find that that's out of your control, I'm afraid," Astarion says gently. "Words are cheap, I realise, but I am sorry."
no subject
CW pretty blunt discussion of noncon
"Ah. You're attached. I can...imagine how that would make this more difficult. How would 'your Millie' feel if you were shackled on all fours in the market square to be fucked by a succession of strangers until you'd learned the error of your ways?"
This is fairly obviously not some hypothetical plucked out of nowhere.
Re: CW pretty blunt discussion of noncon
Maybe there's a little flare of heat in his loins at the idea, and he's not entirely sure what to think about that. Can he blame the apple?
"Yeah, well-" He crosses his arms, stubborn and determined not to let himself be swayed. "It's better than cheating."
no subject
"Really? Because if that was the story I took home to my partner, he'd spend the next hour telling me that 'better' is relative and that I was an idiot. But to each their own, I suppose."
Maybe this Millie person just is that deeply insecure and possessive!
no subject
But Moxxie? Moxxie is the insecure one. The idea of doing anything that could hurt the love of his life, that could ruin the best thing he's ever had? He'd rather die than let that happen.
He doesn't care what happens to him, so long as Millie doesn't get hurt, or betrayed, or... anything else.
"Well... you don't know us! I'm not letting this place scare me into being unfaithful to my wife."
no subject
Astarion shrugs. He's been warned!
"That won't last, and you have my condolences in advance, darling. What's your name, anyway?"
no subject
...often for good reason.
He looks at the caramel apple on the ground, forced bravado fading into anxiety. What in Satan's name is this city going to do to him?
"Huh? Oh, it's- it's Moxxie."
no subject
"Astarion." He sketches a shallow bow, then straightens.
"I've encountered another who looks...not dissimilar to you. Blitz, if I recall, should that mean anything to you."
If the candy is going to do something to him, they might as well kill time before it does. Astarion can either help him out or knock him unconscious, though he's probably still going to need to satisfy any compulsions when he wakes up.
no subject
"Wait- what? Blitzo's here?" He pronounces it with the silent 'o', of course. "Seriously?"
Well that's deeply unfair. Why Blitzo and not Millie?
no subject
"At the very least, he was," Astarion says. "People come and go, I'm afraid."
no subject
no subject
Astarion waves a hand dismissively.
"Time moves differently between realms. Someone can return home for months and reappear in the city with only days having passed here, or vice versa."
no subject
no subject
"Months, or seconds. You can't do anything about it, so I'd recommend trying not to worry about it. Though I suspect that ship has already sailed," he adds, under his breath.
no subject
"I'm never seeing Millie a-again!!"
no subject
Astarion grimaces, but he supposes he's invested himself in this now. After a few moments, he reaches out to gently pat his shoulder.
"...There, there."
