Humpty is indeed the source of much of the trauma that Eric has dealt with throughout his life. The memory of what happened to his father had haunted him throughout his entire life, and Humpty had given him hope for a peaceful life only to have that stripped away.
"I'm not saying I forgive you," he points out. "You did terrible things, to me, to my father, to the world. But the world was awful to you too, and in the end, you saved my life."
He pulls a silver watch from his pocket and shows it to Humpty. "Can you honestly tell me that you think he'd want me to vindictively expose you? That it would do me any good at all?"
