It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the deceit gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the LIEs program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the deceit gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from LIEs after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ...and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of Orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high-rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Submissives are provided with a plain black pleather collar to wear and Dominants are given bracelets made of the same black pleather. The simple design is an immediate visual indicator that they have not yet signed a contract and they will be informed that more elaborate or personalized styles are a privilege reserved for those who do. Enjoy your free time until Orientation! Participation is mandatory for all new and past arrivals. The first hints of winter start to trickle in. Cold breezes, rain and thunder, small storms as the weather continues to turn from Fall to Winter. Time to cozy up with a nice warm drink and a cozy partner! |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in Orientation, LIERs are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERs at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() (cw: pseudo-kidnapping, lost and found) Usually, the train stops here and there, dropping Dominants and Submissives off throughout the Up, before finally stopping in Riddler’s Square to let off uncontracted Submissives and those who live in the Down. This time, there’s an error when only new LIERs are ushered onto the train for their first citywide tour. The train doors lock and refuse to open. Lights flicker, the train shudders. Passing through Riddler’s Square in the Down, the train ignores its usual stops. It continues. The windows go dark, as if the train is headed underground all over again. Sure, maybe it’s headed back to the Up, but… The train’s final destination is one that was not a part of the previous tour. The doors unlock, sliding open to reveal a large, wide area. A nearby sign indicates this place is called “Overlook Park.” Color is devoid here, surroundings seeming to be monochromatic. This also includes the native denizens, who seem to stare at the train with wonder and confusion. Stepping off the train, visitors are not ushered one way or another. There is no specific direction given, no timers placed upon their hands, regardless of this unexpected visit to Insincerity. Flyers wave lazily in the wind against poles they’ve been stapled to, sporting maps of the city and advertisements of various local haunts. They instill a feeling of curiosity, of exploration. New LIERs are gripped with an intense desire to explore, to see all they can, with this newfound sense of freedom. Older LIERs and Graduates in Duplicity begin to receive messages on their Device. “Find this person! They’re lost, and you have been chosen as someone with a high compatibility with them.” Messages are accompanied with a name, an image, and a monetary reward for successfully bringing them back. The new LIERs who are exploring Insincerity slowly begin to be affected by the city. Their skin seems to swirl with a grey tone, starting from their fingertips up through their arms. As this de-coloring spreads, they may find an extreme unsettling feeling setting in. They want to leave, to go back to Duplicity, where they’re meant to be. But no one in Insincerity will help. Not a single resident will assist. It’s up to the others in the program to come save them and bring them back! |
![]() (cw: suggestibility, body worship, compulsions, public sexual urges, violence, sadism, masochism, forced truths) The Obelisk stands within the Up, the base extending all the way until it reaches the ground in the Down. New arrivals may notice the way it pulses, the careful, buzzing light that seems to fade in and out at a specific rate. Shortly after the new arrivals settle within Duplicity, Orientation rolls around. This time, after meeting at the Orientation Center, participants are sent on a bus to a new location. The location is, oddly, the very spot where the Obelisk comes up through the ground in the Up. In a renewed effort to figure out what’s going on with it, LIEs staff in the area explain that this task will help “appease” the Obelisk, whatever that means. All Orientation participants can see and hear the slight nervous energy in Staff, as if speaking such things aloud near the Obelisk may backfire immensely. When Orientation begins, each person is given a small flashlight that they can only use with another. They are instructed to shine it around, to study the Obelisk in an attempt to better understand it. Or, is this a form of worship itself? It’s difficult, if not impossible, to tell. When shining this light towards the Obelisk, a different color will flash within the pulsing lights, and those who see these different colors up close and personal feel compelled to do different things based on the colors they see: - Blue makes characters feel compelled to share a truth about themselves, one they may not ever admit otherwise. |
![]() (cw: secrets revealed by force, semi-public sex, compulsions) The light in the old lighthouse at the north end of Chicanery Beach must never go out, so the locals say, but the fuel that keeps the fire burning hasn't been replenished properly in a while. As usual, Duplicity natives are hesitant to go near the beach, but this important maintenance is still deemed essential, especially with the Obelisk acting up. The solution, like the last time the fuel ran low, seems to be putting the latest batch of LIERs (as well as any others foolish enough to volunteer or unlucky enough to be recruited) up to the task of visiting the lighthouse in teams or pairs, regardless of designation, to feed the flames. Working in shifts and armed with canisters of fuel, the lamp is to be monitored and filled every evening and the fresnel lens carefully polished. It's a simple enough task… or would be, if the flame’s warmth inside the lighthouse wasn’t so alluring and the weather beyond so miserable and stormy. Among the sound of the crashing of the waves is the soft, gentle whispers of a song. Listen in, learn about the deepest, darkest secrets that your fellow teammate(s) are keeping hidden from everyone. These might be sexual encounters they secretly regret, feelings of hatred and disgust they hold for someone else, or something even deeper, even darker. Why stay out here for very long, with how cold and gloomy it is, both from the storm and the words you may hear? Inside the lighthouse is far better than outside. The warmth of the flame above is so very alluring, so much so that any urges to explore nearly vanish completely. With the desire to ascend and feed the flame, teams or pairs will head up the stairs and encounter the lantern room, where they must refill the tanks and polish the lens. The crackle from the fire whispers secret wants and desires of those tasked with keeping it fed. Instead of horrible secrets like the wind outside sings, these whispers are gentle, kind. They tell about kinks another person may want to explore, secret desires for affection if they’re the type to deny wanting any at all, or maybe something as sweet as wanting to feel loved and receive a gentle kiss. It’s so terribly cold outside…why not settle up here for a while and share some warmth with your teammate(s)? |

So, what's happening?LAST STOP - The train locks the new folks on until it reaches a New Location that it normally doesn't go to OFFERINGS AND WORSHIP - Orientation this time around deals with the Obelisk! AS THE LIGHT DIMS - The lighthouse is having issues! |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but the assignments are OOCly randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: All new arrivals on this TDM are Submissive. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to tag on new TDMs with different designations for fun! Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game. Top level comments are for new or returning characters only. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |
