It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing: it's insanely windy. Better batten down the hatches. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() In the peak of the early morning, the last bits of construction are finished; by afternoon, there’s commotion in the Down that seems to brighten the slummish area. Paper lanterns are strung across the beams and awnings of various sectors, and there are stands in the main square with masked vendors that call out in greeting. There are parades of people making a racket, both drunken and sometimes disorderly. It’s colorful, loud, and it’s sexual—seen from the various displays, sounds, and provocative calls all around. Anyone who asks about the reasoning behind the festival will be motioned in close – as if it’s all a big secret – and told this: that it’s an annual free-for-all celebration for the city to let loose without L.I.E.S. breathing down their neck about the laws with the unspoken agreement that what goes on there stays there and that it ends at the appointed time. The government turns a blind eye during this period; some suspect the officials join in, though there’s no proof nor does LIES have anything to do with the activities whatsoever. In return, the people are content to wait another year. They sometimes call it Carnaval. To celebrate and encourage the fun, the vendors won’t accept normal currency. Only one type is taken, though ALL participants are given a small starting sum along with a mask of their choosing. This currency is in the form of colorful beads gathered in a number of ways including: » Glory holes with tip buckets on the receiving side. Any kind of sex act will do, though the amount of beads someone gets for their time depends on how good they are, of course. The sort of things one can buy with these colorful beads range from food to sex toys, little knickknacks, and special masks available closer to the second half of the week. Anything that could be sold will be as long as it isn't weaponry or drugs. The food, too, has some special properties to it. Within the mix of normal food and drink are vendors who sell the kind that offer the chance to break one’s inhibitions, giving the courage and desire to seek out partners new and old, to explore some of the baser kinks, and enact public performances of each should they find themselves unable to find an area of privacy. For those unwilling to partake in these foods or public sex in general, there’s still a way to have your fun! Along with alleyways, many of the buildings in the Down are left open, and rooms can be bought cheap with only one bead necklace. |
After sunrise on the fourth day, the intensity of the celebrations begins to ramp up. The parades of people in the streets now never seem to end. There's more food than ever before, and bargain deals with the beads means that it's that much easier to get your hands on every type of festival food and toy from earlier in the week. It seems like everyone in the city is here to celebrate, with the Up left rather vacant but not unguarded, and the parties and attractions are spread a few streets further than they had been the days prior. But among all of the increased energy, what will be noticed first is that everyone is wearing a mask now. Anyone who has yet to pick up one (or who lost their free one from before) will be flagged down on the streets, pulled aside, and cheerfully (not forcefully) encouraged to purchase one and take part. And after some time, it will become clear that not all masks are created equally. Some of the masks are special, causing a variety of effects on those who wear them. These vary in intensity and time required for them to show up. For example, if two people wear the same cat mask, one might sprout cat ears and a tail instantly and/or acquire a strong desire for fish while another might slowly find themselves purring more at intimate gestures or longing to be on all fours. Similarly, some characters might not receive a mask that has any effects at all, or may experience effects one particular hour or day and not the next. Even masks that were obtained earlier in the week and had caused no effects can now begin to cause them. Strange, isn't it? While there are such a large variety of unique masks that it’s impossible to list them all, there are some categories that seem to be the most common: » Type A. One and Two. These masks rely on their shape to emphasize anonymity. The first is squared off and pointed further away from the chin, making it possible to eat and drink without removal. The second is tight fitting and almost claustrophobic, forming perfectly to the face and even occasionally going so far back as to cover the ears. Wearers of these masks may find that no amount of revealing behavior will actually reveal their identity. They are a complete mystery, even completely nude. Unfortunately, all things must come to an end, and on sunrise of the 20th, Carnaval is completed. Though characters are free to keep their masks as fond memories, they'll no longer carry any sort of effects, and all changes made to characters vanish completely. Vendors are cleaning up their wares, beads are strewn about like trash on the street, and local shops give characters (both Dominants and Submissives) small amounts of money or goods for the beads they voluntarily clean up and turn in to them. The whole city feels content with things being back in place. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. Characters with black, brown, blue, green or purple hair are Submissives. Characters with white, silver, blonde, red or orange hair are Dominants. Characters with no hair or with two-tone hair colors are Submissives. If canon shows two hair colors for a character, go with the one they were born with. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive. » For those unable to consume the special food and be affected by incense, the knickknacks and toys (both sex and normal, festive souvenirs) offer a sort of “spark” to jump-start the same effects. » For the masks, those listed above are just bases of ideas for what to work with! As long as it’s not game breaking and you receive permission from all characters involved and mark content warnings, you have the freedom to play with this. The specific masks above may not cause those exact attributes to be shared if you don’t want them, and you can create your own attributes, as well. If you’re not sure on something, feel free to ask us! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

What, like we're in the freaking Purge or something?
[ But obviously Reggie's speaking more to himself than the person who was just explaining things to him, who's since disappeared back amongst the crowds. None of this is really sinking in to him yet, but that's okay; Reggie is good at going with the flow even when he doesn't know what the fuck is going on. Everything about this place seems like a joke or the plot of an elaborately world-builded porno taken individually, but looking at it all together... well, it's harder to brush off what looks like an entire citywide culture.
But right now he's not going to worry about it. A party's a party, and the opportunity to distract himself is obviously appealing-- he runs out of his starter sum pretty quick, using it on shots and street food, then wanders the area, watching people around him with at first either disgust or curiosity, the latter which turns increasingly into vague interest as some of the special food begins affecting him.
A timely and perhaps convenient side effect, since he is out of beads now. ]
➺ THE LIMBO TWIST
[ The more time passes, the harder it is not to keep circling back to the what the fuck? of it all, so Reggie's a little impatient when he's flagged down and asked to choose a mask, but not so much to opt-out entirely. Why not, right? He picks a type B (2) mask in a black style that evokes a vague emotional connection to home, but then goes about his business. He does feel a lot less confused and wary now than he did on the first day, and maybe the mask is helping, because he feels much more inclined to participate in the festivities this time rather than mostly watch-- dancing with people, flirting with people, playing games... or whatever else. Not that he didn't do anything the past few days, but the vibe feels totally different now. He feels enthusiastic and reckless and without a care in the world, like any typical frat bro might feel at Mardi Gras or Spring Break.
He's also got a decent array of colored beads hanging around his neck by now, though his shirt has been lost (or abandoned) somewhere in the past three days. He's a "titties out" kind of partier anyway, might as well get paid for it. ]
➺ WILDCARD
[ Choose your own adventure! Feel free to just throw me a starter, or PM / hit me up at
reggiemantle if you'd rather discuss it. ]
Heavy with heat
Nick has a fondness for the utterly hapless mortals.
He tosses some beads Reggie's way.]
no subject
[ Reggie catches them easily, and confused or not, he puts them on without much protest-- he doesn't need to know each and every specific method of earning them to have figured out these beads are the currency of the day... week... whatever, however long, and therefore necessary to have.
It helps that Nick's good looking, of course. Reggie would appraise their attractiveness as about (or at least, almost) equal. ]
Thanks. [ He brushes his bangs back from his face, smirking cheekily. ] Seriously, what kind of a carnival doesn't take cash or credit?
[ Not the worst or weirdest thing about this place so far by a long shot, just the most convenient ice-breaker. ]
no subject
[He nods, absently, towards Reggie's submissive tattoo. It's a definite thing that makes people around here annoyed; this is one of the few events where submissives can earn and spend their own earnings without begging a Dominant for help.]
no subject
[ Reggie glances down, dragging a finger down his tattoo before he frowns a bit and draws his jacket a bit more closed. Any place that imposes second class citizenship on him already doesn't need to do much more than that to get on his nerves, but even based on what he's seen of this place so far, it could be a lot worse -- and is, no doubt, but this carnalval is all he has to go by yet -- than just people degrading themselves for bead-string tips during a party. He's worked for tips or otherwise been dependent on others for money and embarrassed himself at parties before. ]
Yeah, I get it-- so there's some strings attached. [ He tugs on the necklace. ] It isn't like that normally?
no subject
[He raises both his eyebrows, but he smiles just a little.]
Where are you from?
no subject
[ Not that Riverdale is just any small town, but it makes for weird small talk-- Reggie shrugs casually, more for emphasis than anything else. Give it another week and it might not be that different to all this, maybe people would have to request permission to buy coffee; they do already have gangs and other different factions trying to divide up the town, so with Riverdale you never really know.
He'd prefer it to be normal, though. This is probably the most normal Riverdale has ever seemed, right now, in comparison to this place. ]
You sound like you've been here a while. Are you like, from here, or...?
no subject
Another boy from Riverdale. He laughs a little, and it's very charming.]
Another Riverdale boy. A Bulldog or a Serpent?
[There are things that he's learned from both Jughead and Archie. He grins.]
I'm from Greendale.
no subject
... Bulldog. Who else have you met from-- [ Wait. ] Whoa. Wait, seriously? Then are we sure we haven't just been snatched by some cult another town over? Kind of a crazy coincidence.
[ He's mostly being facetious, but... still seems plausible, considering. ]
no subject
We are pretty far from home, Bulldog.
[At least it’s not farmboy]
You know Betty Cooper? She’s around somewhere.
[To be fair, Nick hasn’t seen them in a while.]

hey, archie's brofriend
Until it doesn't.
The shock of red hair doesn't blend in as well as some others may, but it's another boy who catches his attention. When Archie spots the familiar figure, he pushes through the crowd to reach him. ]
Reggie!
[ A body gets in the way, but Archie weaves around. ]
Hey! Man!
eyyyy
So, it's been a while. But seeing Archie now, here, Reggie's feelings are far less complicated than if they were reuniting under different, more normal circumstances. He grins, running over to meet Archie and throw an arm around him in a sort of halfway hug. ]
Bro! Boy, am I glad to see you. [ He glances around, before adding: ] Well... sort of.
no subject
So, he can grin and buckle slightly under the arm; he and Reggie may have the occasional Alpha moment, but it's more easygoing when they're just being friends instead.
Besides, the familiar face is welcome. Or not, if Archie isn't being too selfish. ]
Yeah, I know. [ Archie gestures toward the mark on Reggie's neck before motioning to his own. ] Looks like we've got matching tattoos. [ More importantly. ] How long you been here? Settling in?
no subject
Well, maybe. Probably, yeah, but not right now, when things finally feel normal between them after what feels like forever. That isn't worth fucking up over something that's hardly the most pressing issue at hand for either of them. ]
Yeah, and they are ugly as hell, but at least they don't hurt, right?
[ He's about to stick his hands in his pockets before he decides instead to run a finger along Archie's tattoo experimentally... and briefly. As for settling in, he just shrugs. ]
It's only been like, a day, so-- I have no freaking idea. What about you?
no subject
Maybe it's this place getting to him, maybe it's the trust he finds himself holding for Reggie, but Archie actually bends his neck to allow Reggie more room for examination. ]
Looks a little different from the new ones, but they change with behavior. Luckily, I'm paired with Betty so it's not like she's trying to make me do stuff I'd disobey.
[ Casually, he scratches the back of his neck. ]
A few months now, and this place is insane. We just got back from some kind of messed up camp.
[ What came after was worse, but there's no need to dwell there. ]
Betty's here. Jug... was.
no subject
Oh. That's rough, dude. [ Mostly, he knows it must suck for Archie; Reggie and Jughead are "okay" these days, but Reggie could still give or take his company. ] Wait, with behavior? Then I'm totally boned. Change how?
[ Because Reggie will always romanticize his rebellious streak before he'll be self-aware of how much more often in comparison he ends up following stronger or more competent leadership-- so with the right person, he'll almost certainly be fine. Probably. ]
And what kind of messed up camp?
no subject
Did they tell you the whole dominant/submissive thing? If you find a dominant who doesn't really care what you do, then the mark won't change. That's how I can be so against this entire place and not be totally screwed.
[ Because he opposes everything Duplicity represents.
Ah. What the camp was like. It's a little embarrassing, really. Archie just shakes his head; it beats admitting he'd had to sit on the floor like a dog in order to eat. Submissives had it rough there. ]
Let's just hope they're done with the camps.
[ He pauses and looks around. ]
You want to get a drink? The mark means it'll be hard for you to make money too so we should enjoy it while they're offering it out.
no subject
[ While it's probably arguable whether or not Reggie's making much better decisions now in the grand scheme of things (granted, as they both know, anything's a step up from being manipulated by Hiram Lodge), he's at least learned enough from some of those mistakes to have grown a little-- matured enough, that is, that he's more observant of other people beyond himself than he used to be.
Like for instance, how Archie doesn't want to talk about whatever happened at this camp. Reggie looks at him quietly for a second, but allows the subject to change. ]
Yeah, let's get a drink. I, um-- I don't got any beads, though. Do you?
no subject
[ As Archie explains this to Reggie, Jug's community service comes to mind. ]
If we're too bad, there's a people zoo. You get locked up and anybody who wants gets to have sex with you.
[ Which is a dangerous threat that hangs over all of their heads. The city pretends there's a choice when in reality, there's no choice at all. The only real control they have is in deciding how they'll obey orders. ]
We can grab a few beds with the masks. I don't really know how many it'll get us, but we can start from there. [ It seems that everywhere, people are earning beads in a variety of ways, giving the crowd a show. ] Hopefully it's enough.
[ The redhead pushes through the crowd, hoping Reggie follows. Around them, people call out offers and other signs of interest. As they near the area designated for masks, the sounds all begin to blend together. ]
Looks like it's our pick.

WILDCARD BECAUSE I CAN. but really it's just lies travel in company
Betty had her day planned from start to finish. She was going to pass out the supplies she'd stored in the Down, she was going to the construction site to help rebuild however she could, then it was a therapy session with Hannibal Lector (yes, that Hannibal Lector).
So when she climbs on the train and moves to find a seat, her thoughts tangled up in other matters, it almost doesn't register when a raven boy with a pouty mouth stands before her.
Blinking, she sort of leans back in disbelief--] Reggie?
no subject
Oh, whoa-- Betty? [ They're not close enough for Reggie to normally find himself "happy," specifically, to see her, but he sure is now. A relieved grin spreads over his face. ] Holy crap! What are the odds?!
no subject
She gives him something of a sheepish smile and a shrug.] I can't believe... Did you just get here?
no subject
[ He rubs the back of his neck a bit awkwardly, but then shrugs. It's a lot to take in, obviously, but so much to the point that he still needs more time with it before he can actually process the reality of the situation-- the calm, confused denial before the angry, bewildered panic will no doubt eventually set in. ]
Trying not to look too touristy about it, though. [ And that's a joke. Ish. ] Did you just get here?
no subject
I've been here a few months.
no subject
[ It's a little confusing, yeah; Reggie crosses his arms, squinting a bit as he tries to work that out in his head. It's not going to make sense even if he was good at math, but then, none of this really makes any sense. ]
Where are we? I mean-- [ He cocks his head slightly. ] Like, how legit is all this?
