It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one other thing: it’s sticky and humid. Gross. |
 After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
 Standard orientation is over quickly. New arrivals are allowed to settle into their new living arrangements and are given access to the city. Explore. Make connections. On the third day, all devices light up with a message from LIES. Orientation 2.0 is about to start, and it does the moment participants tap the screen of their phones. After arriving at the designated location, standing on the front step of a large house, a man dressed in nothing more than a small cloth wrapped at his waist will open the wooden door and guide arrivals inside one by one. In the main room is a large brass tub filled with warm water and fragrant oils. The bath is relaxing, no one will have the desire or willpower to abstain from this, and the style of dress is one of the following: a simple sheer gown with thin underwear beneath or a soft robe with a thick belt. The first denotes a particular status - the servant, concubine, companion, prostitute, jeweled bird, whore. There are many words for the role, but they are those chosen by the person who is being paid for the service. The second is an elevated status, and those dressed this way are given a solid gold coin to spend on the person of their choosing. Visitors of Lupanar are placed in their roles at random. The companions are led to rooms where they are laid out comfortably in any manner of style—placed on a bed, draped in a swing, tied up and blindfolded. Afterwards, they are then visited by their patrons. |
 Lupanar is in full swing. The night edges forward as patrons visit one or many rooms, companions satisfy their visitors, and the procurer who runs the establishment gracefully handles any disputes or misunderstandings. Lit candles line the stairs and hallways, casting an eerie glow on anyone who chooses to slip a panel aside and watch the acts occurring in the room behind that wall. As the night melts into early morning, companions and patrons alike will experience a physical crack and shift. For some, they’ll be brought to their knees or find themselves winded. Others will feel a tightness in their chest or the strange sensation of losing their breath. When it’s over, each person will now bear the physical characteristics of two other people: someone they care dearly for and someone that they do not. The combination of features or physical attributes will be unique; possibly the hair style and color of one but the eyes and nose of the other. What’s even more odd is that, now, desires belonging to the other people are transferred. Strong and overwhelming, satisfaction is a must. |
 The second floor of Lupanar is a dedicated space to a series of private and public glass rooms. Companions, styled as requested, are placed inside to act out anything the patron desires of them. They may dance, strip, or pleasure themselves, but the key thing to remember is that glass separates the companion from everyone else. You may look, but you can’t touch. The third and final floor of this esteemed brothel is an entirely open area with space at the center for an ongoing orgy. Patrons may lay with one another, companions can indulge in sex or sleeping, and generally either participate in public sex with someone else while watching others. So, join in or take a seat. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. Characters born in January, March, May, June, September, and December are Dominants. Characters born in February, April, July, August, October, and November are Submissive. Characters with an unknown birthday are Submissive. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive. » Players can use any part of the setting to create test drive prompts. Check out the locations page! » The Houses of Pleasure: Characters will touch their phones and close their eyes. They will then be in the new setting. It won’t be apparent whether characters were transported there or if it’s something similar to a dream. If characters ask any NPCs or later ask LIES, they will be told that it’s up to them to decide. Characters can return to Duplicity after making a payment or receiving one. If you choose to have your character not participate in this part of the test drive then they will have a glitch on their phone that doesn’t allow them to access the invite to Orientation 2.0. » Characters that play the role of companion may be dressed or situated in their room in any number of ways. They may be put into Elizabethan era clothing for a lord and lord/lady/servant/stablehand roleplay scenario. Or perhaps the companion is dressed in a clown costume. We don’t judge. Get wild. » Into The Wolf Den: Characters become the physical embodiment of two people. Someone the character loves and someone they hate. Mix and mash features at your leisure. Have an even mix or let one dominate the other. Characters will also experience the desires of those other people and want to satisfy those urges. “Call me Temple,” he says. “And to be honest, I don’t think this is as simple as you think it is. I mean, maybe it could be but I doubt it. The LIES program wants us to have sex, after all. So if I gave you my communication device in exchange for your coin, for example, I don’t think it would get us out of this.”
And besides, Temple’s communication device is just about the only thing Temple has right now and can trade - unless the man wants his gown or his underwear - so it would be a really bad idea to exchange it.
