It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. The hellish summer heat is finally starting to subside, and the cool breeze suggests autumn is approaching. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() The weather’s getting cooler, and people have begun transitioning from summer clothing to the sweaters and jackets of early fall. With jackets come pockets, and with pockets come a bizarre uptick in robberies. Then again, perhaps the correlation is flawed. In the Down, getting robbed is a constant threat. Gangs of street toughs look for lone or inattentive people who look like they’ve got valuables on hand. Uncontracted Submissives are particularly easy to rob, since authorities have little time to bother with a lowly Submissive without a Dominant to advocate for them. One particularly nasty gang of young adult men, the Bulldogs, hangs out near the train, looking to ambush unwary Submissives fresh out of Orientation. They are prone to violent muggings and will simply beat up their target and leave them in a gutter when they’re finished robbing them. In the Up, the streets are nominally safer, but there have been reports of a group of college-aged Submissive women taking advantage of their designation to attack travelers. They, too, stand near the train and the orientation center, looking to seduce passersby into an alley where a group of them can beat and mug their victims, usually Dominants looking to capitalize on their pretty appearances. But you’re truthfully at risk anywhere in the city. The new arrivals are easy targets, and any brazen thief might get the idea to make some quick cash. The authorities are spread too thin to help, but perhaps LIErs can look out for one another? Or they might just get in on the thievery. Everyone’s out for themselves, after all. |
( CW: potential dubcon, drugs, BDSM/sexual torture, prostitution, public use ) Surrounding a large building near the orientation center in the Up, banners and fliers announcing the beginning of the inaugural Duplicity High Tech Sexpo, a trade show for businesses and manufacturers of adult novelties. Since this is the expo’s first year, admission is free and many excited volunteers are handing out vouchers all over the city. These vouchers can be exchanged for goods and services within the expo, but have no monetary value outside of it. Even if you refuse them, you’ll likely find two or three of them tucked into your bag or pocket. Inside the expo hall, there are dozens of booths pitching a variety of entertainments. Many offer interactive demonstrations, showing off their tech for the crowds of interested onlookers. Competition is fierce, and booths try to attract attention and customers through any means necessary. There are private rooms all around the expo for potential customers to try out the products. Booths will also happily accept volunteers for demos, or try to recruit them by bribing them with cash or free samples. There’s a nasty rumor going around that some are recruiting volunteers via more illicit means, like drugging and dressing them up, but surely that’s an exaggeration… Some of the smaller booths sell more traditional toys and accessories: leashes and collars, specialty lubes and massage oils, fetish gear, strap-ons, dildos and vibrators in myriad shapes and sizes, and other basic items. Others advertise apps for the devices, the most notable of which is HUGGR (which LIErs may recognize as a poorly rebuilt sex-themed version of a certain other app.) The closer you get to the big-ticket sponsor booths, the more elaborate and fantastic the products become. One of the most eye-catching demos is for the Climax VR Headset. You and a partner both wear a VR headset, which displays a collaborative virtual scenario. Both partners can alter the setting and surroundings however they like, and any sexual activity conducted in VR transmits real sensations to their bodies. You can come together without ever physically touching. Symphony Hydraulics have a large, loud booth where crowds gather to watch perhaps the most outrageous demo: a variety of fucking machines. Volunteers get stripped, strapped in, and turned on, brought to screaming orgasms in front of the whole crowd. There is a fifteen minute break between demos on each machine, as some poor intern hurriedly washes and sanitizes them between uses. In the interim, they offer smaller, portable versions for sale or rent at the expo. (Some may note that a few of the Symphony Hydraulics staff members look a bit familiar.) Does all this high-tech equipment have you overwhelmed? Wish you could go back to a simpler time? Sir Robert’f Bedroome Provifionf (sic) is helmed by historical reenactor Robert Plum, who has also created his own line of medieval torture device-themed sex toys. Need a chastity belt to keep your Submissive all to yourself? A rack with an attached spreader-bar? An iron maiden with soft vibrating silicone ticklers inside? All the stocks and whips and chains you could ever need? Sir Robert has you covered. Of course, everything on display is harmlessly altered for sexual novelty purposes, but one might also ask to see Sir Robert’s “special” merchandise in the back. Perhaps the most unassuming booth at the expo belongs to Grandma Hattie’s Snacks and Sweets. Grandma Hattie, a kindly old Submissive, has partnered with a tech company to produce what appear to be completely normal vending machines, stocked full of her tasty homemade bread, snack cakes, and other baked goods. Vouchers are good for a free sample of any treat from a vending machine. They taste amazing and have no apparent odd effects-- until 10 minutes after consumption, when you suddenly gain an insatiable craving for a random kink. Your craving will dominate your thoughts for three hours, or until it is appeased. |
![]() (CW: potential dubcon, objectification) By far the largest and shiniest booth comes from expo sponsors Sexy Metal Incorporated, who have set up a display of their incredible high-tech sexbots. These life-sized dolls are made of extremely realistic material that feels like warm human skin, and come with state-of-the-art mechanics that give them lifelike movement. Engineers show off how the bots can be plugged into a computer and programmed to act any way the buyer likes. They come in a wide variety of customizable appearances and eerily, some of the bots on display look exactly like people you may know. Booth staff encourage customers to buy these dolls, or to rent them and give them a try onstage in front of the fascinated crowds. If that’s not kinky enough, one of the engineers has purchased a VR headset from another booth, and programmed it to interface with the bot’s controls. Care to slip inside the silicone skin of another person? |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: In celebration of our one year, pick whichever role you want for your character! » A Pocket Full of Pennies: Feel free to come up with any free-roving gangs or petty criminals you like for your characters to tangle with. » New Flesh Like A Glove: Characters can spend money on items at the expo, or may exchange vouchers for what they want. Each voucher has a value of about $5 within the expo and they may be acquired by finding them, having them handed to characters/stuffed in their pockets or bags by expo volunteers, or paid them in exchange for “volunteering” at booths. Characters may indeed try before they buy, either out in the open or using one of the provided private rooms with a partner. The expo has a staff of unpaid student interns tasked with cleaning and sanitizing products if they are used but not purchased. Grandma Hattie’s snacks can inspire characters to have any kink you may desire. » Perfection of the Digital: Sexbots can resemble any player characters, including brand new arrivals/test drive characters. They can also resemble characters that yours knows from home. The engineers have no explanation for this, and the one who identifies himself as the designer will shrug and say he gets inspiration from many places. The sexbots are hot-ticket expensive merchandise, so security is tight around the booth. Characters who attempt to steal or destroy a sexbot (for instance, one who looks like themselves) will be quickly set upon by guards, who are meant to eject them from the expo. However, many of the guards will take bribes from other booths to provide them model “volunteers,” drugged into complacency. If characters want to acquire a sexbot permanently, they will have to buy it or exchange a hefty 50 vouchers for it. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |
Hayley Marshall | The Originals | Submissive
Hayley's slightly stunned by the turn of events her life has suddenly taken. Already a little numb from the Hollow's attacks and the ripping away of her found-family, right after she'd gotten them back, she takes in the information of where she is in something of a daze. Last she knew, she was trying to figure out where to go after dropping Hope off in Mystic Falls. Now...this seems like she's stuck in someone's fucked up mindscape or something. Being told she's a submissive makes her snort, and adds to the unreality of it all. She's a damn Alpha werewolf, after all.
Her basic wariness asserts itself, by the time she's on the train, settling into the seat and looking around. Self-preservation may not be as necessary these days, and the vampire in her is confident in her ability to handle anything, but the wolf remains alert, watchful. The city doesn't seem so different than any back home from what she can see, but the mark down her throat reflected in the window of the train is new. Her fingers trace lightly down the mark, feeling no change in her skin, like it's a tattoo she doesn't remember getting. But this is a far cry from a tramp stamp you wake up with after a night of debauchery in Cabo.
"This is surreal..." she murmur, casting a look at the person closest to her. "I'd ask if I'm dreaming, but I couldn't trust your response, could I?"
B. A Pocket of Pennies - The Down
She's a little more grounded, more sure that it's real--a real nightmare, but real--by the time she gets off the train in the Down. Shared housing sounds more like she's sent back to the group homes she ran away from over a decade ago, but it's a place to regroup, to go over the information she's been given. At least there's somewhere she can get blood, apparently, and the City seems equipped to deal with vampires efficiently.
When she's jumped by a gang of thugs, though, looking for money she doesn't have, or something else she's not willing to give, she smiles. She may look like an easy target, but they've just made her day.
Still, she's in a mood, and she decides to play, eyes widening a little, "I...I don't have anything..."
But she's gonna have dinner here in a few, and that's more than enough to brighten her mood.
C. New Flesh Like a Glove
Hayely ends up at the Sexpo mostly in an information gathering way--people kept thrusting pamphlets at her, and it seems like a good idea to get a better sense of where she's ended up. She's used to fairs and expos and the like, though it's been a long time since she's been to one. It's not really a Mikaelson thing, and she's been a little busy for any sort of recreational wandering for years now.
She browses the aisles, mostly amused, though she also finds her eyes growing wide at some of the products for sale. She likes to think she is far from innocent, but some of this...is beyond anything she's seen, even in her darkest times.
i. She stands at the symphony hydraulics booth, eyes very wide, as she stares. When someone tries to grab her, she twists away, managing to pull free, even though they lunge after her. She's pretty sure she can get away, but there's a surge of panic, even so, because she doesn't know what the rules are in this new place.
ii. The Climax VR Headset, on the other hand, piques her curiosity. She watches for a little while, and wonders just how real it can actually be--she's not been that impressed with VR headsets back home, yet. But, after everything with Elijah, she's been needing a distraction, and one with the safety of being virtual is really appealing.
She watches for a little while, but eventually moves up to volunteer to try it out. Maybe she doesn't actually have enough vouchers to buy one, yet, but, hey. Volunteering at least gives her a start if she decides it's something she might want later.
iii. She does have enough vouchers for grandma hattie's baked goods, though. Maybe she doesn't need human food, but she certainly enjoys it when it's good, and these smell delicious. It's shortly after she finishes the last bite of a delicious lemon tart that she feels the heat flushing through her, and a sudden need to let someone take all sorts of control of her in a way that she's never even admitted to herself she might crave. But right now, she's almost unsure which aisle to choose to go down, and looks around, biting her lip, hoping someone will come and tell her exactly what to do.
[ooc: I'm good with things going in darker directions, and open to plenty of kinks & dubcon. feel free to hit me up on Plurk at

"I suppose you couldn't." Rhys' eyes stay fixed carefully on her face. For his part he's gathered a fly from inside the train, and he has it resting on the palm of his hand. The fly seems content to sit there, even when he shifts his hand.
"For my part, this is nothing I could think to dream." There is a surreal quality, but Rhys has never stopped to think about some of these things, could not have imagined a world with only one sun, even knowing they exist. "But like you said, I could say little to convince you."
no subject
Her gaze flicks to the fly on his hand, and that seems to confirm she's dreaming, because she's certainly never seen a fly sit so still on anything moving before.
"Which part of this seems least real to you?"
no subject
"The bugs. I've never been in a place where they felt so inert, powerless."
He's had nightmares, of course, and encountered situations where it didn't matter what he tried, how much he reached for them, they would not respond to his will. But here they respond, they simply cannot do anything more than that.
"What is strangest for you?"
no subject
"Um..." The question stumps her for a moment, mostly because she's trying to figure out the fly thing, but she finally shakes her head and lifts her gaze back to his.
"This." Her hand lifts to the mark running down her throat. "I mean, I have tattoos, but I didn't have this one when I went to sleep, and it's not...tender like a new tattoo. It's just there..."
no subject
If he had pockets he'd tuck the flies away in them, but as it is he leaves them to sit on his hand.
"I think we need to consider the fact that we may have been unconscious for an extended period of time. We are at least some distance from my home world."
no subject
So, too, could having been unconscious for a long time as he suggests.
"Home world?" she asks, curiousity flaring a little beyond being stuck here and the confusion over it.
no subject
"I'm from Umayma," he says. "What about you?" Maybe he can start to work out where they were taken from, although it would help if there were any stellar maps around.
no subject
She hopes that she's not just missing some country she should know about, and confesses honestly. "I've never heard of Umayma..."
no subject
"Ships attempting to visit Umayma have been shot out of the sky for a while." Except apparently the Queen of Nasheen is taking alien visitors. But it wouldn't be a surprise if it wasn't well known outside of Umayma itself.
no subject
"Honestly, if Umayma is a whole other planet, then no one from Earth, at least my Earth has any kind of ships that could even get there, let alone get shot out of the sky. We haven't even managed a manned mission to Mars, yet."
It was likely that they would, some day, and she might even be alive for it, now that she was immortal, but she figured it would still be quite some time.

C. 3.
He’s heading through the crowd with no particular aim in mind when he sees Haley moving through the crowd. She seems like she’s breathing a bit heavily from what he can tell and maybe she’s a bit flushed, without knowing her it’s a bit hard to say. Beyond that she seems kind of lost ...
Han catches her in a firm, but gentle grasp on the forearm. He figures a surprise touch had a 50-50 chance of either pissing her off or, maybe, it might calm her down. Sometimes a good natured stranger could be helpful, right? ]
Are you alright? [ His voice has a quality that sounds like a murmur, even at speaking volume. ] You look a little worked up.
no subject
Right now, though, she welcomes it, coming to a halt and turning in to him. She wets her lips, looking up at him.]
I don't know. [She steps in a little closer.] I need someone to tell me what to do. Which doesn't make sense, 'cause I'm usually pretty against that. [She shifts, heat and want crawling under her skin in uncomfortable ways.] I don't suppose you could...
[Even as part of her flinches back from the need, her breath speeds up a little as images flash through her mind of all the things she'd let him order her to do.]
no subject
[ Han managed to actually find something in this expo that did surprise him. Being confronted by a woman who wanted to be bossed around by a stranger was a new one, though. If he had known she had eaten the food, he’d know exactly what they were dealing with. ]
Let’s get out of the showroom for starters. [ It hadn’t clicked that Hayley’s unrest was the sexual kind, yet. ] There’s a lot of people here all of a sudden.
no subject
[It wasn't quite what she'd meant, and she looked a little uncertain, but it's a start, at least a direction, and there's a flicker of hope at that.
Her fingers curl around his arm lightly, and her normal wariness seems missing, something more trusting welling inside of her instead. At the same time, she's still confused. But she doesn't know about the food, doesn't know what food here can do; she's never heard of any food doing this. Drugging someone, sure? But this craving? It doesn't even occur to her that food could do this, so she's not connecting the dots.]
This isn't like me...
no subject
[ Han should have pieced it all together by now. He knew what this place did to people — plenty of people he knew had ended up dosed with an aphrodisiac — but for some reason, he thought it was the crowd or something making her anxious. He had a somewhat dated tendency to want to rescue a lady in distress.
Weaving out of the huge throng of people in the main expo floor made him feel better, anyway. He was getting tired of walking around people. ]
no subject
But he's asked a question, and she feels compelled to answer him.]
Needing someone to be in control. I don't understand...[Her fingers tighten a little on him, clinging slightly.] I just need, and that's...embarrassing. I'm not that girl.
no subject
[ It’s not until Han starts trying to puzzle out what that’s supposed to mean that everything starts to fall into place. The anxiousness, the want to be told what to do, his perception of her. She probably got dosed with something. ]
Did you eat some of the food here?
no subject
I had a lemon tart from the baked goods shop. Why?
no subject
[ Han glances over at her awkwardly. He has no idea how she’s going to react to that, but he expected surprise at the very least. Given that she didn’t know about the food being laced with things, it makes him think she might be one of the new people. ]
It’s so common that people usually grab a bite with with some they ... you know. Someone they want to get to know better.
no subject
[Fury flashes at that, not at him, but that someone dared. She doesn't know why it even surprises her, but it does, and her free hand curls into a fist. On the other hand, it's something of a relief, because at least it's an explanation, and she's not gone insane.
She grits her teeth a little, trying to push down the need that's still coursing through her, getting worse.]
How long does it usually take to wear off? [She heals fast, after all. Surely her vampiric blood will push it out sooner rather than later?]

C. i.
It goes to show how quickly he'd given up seeing any of his family members, anyone from New Orleans, show up there. Is there some grand meaning in the mother of his baby being the one who's also been stolen away to the city? His expectations of how approaching her may go are neutral rather than anything else, a symptom of the shock of seeing her.
Trailing after her would have happened if not for the intrusion of a stranger targeting her. Klaus had been absorbed in taking in the shadows and lines of her face, the shape of her eyes, the rise and fall of her chest, that even he hadn't been paying attention. Yet, there he is, zipping up at supernatural speed, coming between Hayley and her pursuer. He doesn't recognize this person, but he does spit out at them to leave. There's a moment of uncertainty from the stranger, a lingering look of lust toward Hayley before they frown and depart. Apparently their pursuit isn't worth a physical fight? Maybe that's just how they pick up partners, in general or specifically around the hydraulics booth. The activities at said booth do not seem to factor into Klaus' concerns, yet. He turns to Hayley, eyes serious, face a tad rigid.
His eyes drift down over her neck, brow furrowing just so. A flinch at the station they've forced upon her. "Hayley." He regrets not having seen sight of her earlier. Clearly he hadn't been paying as much attention as he ought to of at orientation and the like. He's reserved, tight and uncertain of what to say or do. So, he keep it simple. "We should go to my flat." Clearly to be away from prying eyes and ears, and -- "Away from, this." A jerk of his head to the sex acts on display.
no subject
Beyond that, she’s just so relieved to not be fucking alone that she could...no, scratch the “could.” Tears well and fall, even as she all but throws herself into his arms, her own going around him tightly. His reserve doesn’t even register; she’s had to be too strong, too alone for too long.
“Klaus. Oh, thank god...”
no subject
In some ways, many in fact, it could be a blessing that she is the one who has shown up. Any of his siblings come with lifetimes of baggage. And, there are so many worse figures outside of the Mikaelsons who could grace Duplicity's streets.
Concern etches the lines of his face when she begins to cry, muscles tightening in surprise when he feels her arms suddenly around him. It takes a moment, but his arms lift in turn and pull her in a closer embrace. "Not the reaction I usually receive." His words aim toward a tiny bit of levity before he lets that notion shrink away.
"I didn't think anyone else I knew would be brought here. I'm...sorry it actually happened, Hayley." He pulls away, looking into her face, sights only on her. His regular resolve has returned after seeing how she reacted to his presence -- really, those kinds of reactions go a multitude of ways, usually with anger and hatred at the head. He's more relieved than he thought possible upon seeing a face from home.
"I know you're shaken. And I can help, much as is possible here." There's no getting them home, but he will aid her, with comfort, with explanations, whatever she might need. "I've been here for...eight months now." It's a hard pill to swallow, but he says it with ease. Not exactly like Klaus Mikaelson to accept such a fate, but there's been no way out of it.
no subject
"I'm sorry. I don't know what's wrong with me. I just...I've been half convinced I was going insane. I mean, this..." She looks around, attention caught by the fucking machines again, because, just, what? This is so far out of her experience, that she's not really sure what to make of it--even after Cabo.
She turns back to him. "You said you have an apartment...wait." What he says at the end finally registers. "You can't have been here eight months. I just saw you at home."
