TDM #2
« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »
It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Either way it's raining! Still. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new arrivals. |
![]() The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() The rain continues to drizzle, but it’s finally slowing enough for the citizens of Duplicity to catch their breath. With the influx of new LIERS, people make quick work of fixing the damages from Tumenalia—a combination of preparation and wanting to welcome more participants to orientation. Typically, travel between the Up and the Down is rather seamless with the use of the elevators, and with the end of the holiday comes a regular schedule for transportation between the two areas of Duplicity. Yet, mysterious powers are at play once again. Or so it seems. Stepping onto the elevators does not deliver its occupants to their desired location; instead, they are ushered into rooms designed to be escaped. There are a variety of themes, but the most popular seem to be Room A, Room B, and Room C. While they follow the usual guidelines for any escape room, there are a few “catches” that might not be noticeable at first. Each clue is only accessible to those of the corresponding designation. Submissives are responsible for unlocking the first and third of the three clues, and even if a Dominant figures out what it is and how to use it, they will not be any closer to escaping unless the Submissive plays a key role in interacting with these clues. Things to note about these rooms: the third clue requires some sort of sexual engagement to be considered “clear” of it. After the allotted time of one (1) hour, if those inside haven’t managed to escape, the Submissives will be removed from the room and the Dominants will remain until they can successfully help the new Submissives escape the room. Each time, the clues will be reset and change; they will never be the same. |
![]() Meanwhile, in the Down, a local charity organization has sent out notices for a black-tie fundraiser to be held during the evening to raise awareness of homeless Submissive children. Invitations are sent via the devices, and there are even fliers posted all across the Up and the Down. If in attendance of the event, the waitstaff will be taking down the names of all uncontracted Submissives; no other explanation of what it’s for is mentioned throughout the evening. And while donations are completely voluntary, any contributions made helps to further the main endeavor of the cause. However, it seems most people are present to network and find someone that might fill a contract slot. So, eat, drink, and dance until it all winds down and everyone decides to go home. The only “catch”? Dominants draw the name of one Submissive to accompany them back to the Up, and those who are left will be paired up for the sake of no one leaving alone. |
Please read carefully. Dominant and Submissive TDM assignments: All characters whose first name begins with the following ( A, C, E, G, I, K, M, O, Q, S, U, W, and Y ) are Dominants. All characters whose first name begins with the following ( B, D, F, H, J, L, N, P, R, T, V, X, and Z ) are Submissives. Players with characters that are a number use the first letter to spell that number. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is dominant or submissive. For the escape room prompt players can make up the clues they find. They may be extremely sexual or something simple like moving a painting off a wall. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

...Is that why you deserted YoRHa? Is that why they put a bounty on your head? You know too much, right?
[The grimace on 9S' face is etched onto his cheeks and brow, bare fingers curling around his device as he finds himself wanting to know more.]
What else did they tell you?
no subject
The machines? They knew. They have a backdoor into the bunker. They've known about everything since the beginning.
no subject
[What the fuck is what he wants to say, but the profanity dies on his tongue as he stares at the other android, unsure of how to process what he's just been told. Being lied to was one thing, but for A2 to be the first batch of lambs offered up for the sake of bettering future models...it makes him feel sick. It makes him feel hollow. If he was capable of having clammy hands he would all of a sudden.
Instead he stares, ice blue eyes wide, searching her face for some indication that it's all a joke, that what she's telling him is the lie...but it's not. The machines. They knew. They had a backdoor into the bunker. What he'd been assuming hadn't been just paranoia on his part.]
...Why would they do that to you? Why would they do this to any of us?!
no subject
I don't know. [Is what she says.] I won't ever know, 9S. I don't think it's something you'll know either. But here? In this place? Humans are alive. There's no aliens, and there's no machines. Androids were created to serve humans, and at least we can do that here.
no subject
If there's one thing he hates more than anything it's not knowing, and now that he's questioning why he was made and for what purpose, he feels almost like he's going to spiral - but A2 seems to catch the unraveling string before it can unwind too much. Androids were created to serve humans - if she affirms as much then that was a truth he could put his faith in too, right? Here, there were humans, and if there were humans, they could be useful. Perhaps more useful than they'd ever been.]
...Yeah. You're right.
[His voice sounds small and incredibly hollow, devoid of the spunk it'd had just a moment ago. He'll get over it, but he needs another minute or two.]
no subject
It's not hard, when she thinks about it. Even just this? This is something she longed for, to share the pain of hers with someone else. But... the other androids. Before 2B, before 9S, there were other androids. Ones that she'd tried to tell the truth to, ones she'd had to dismantle anyways when they ignored her cries and pleas to just listen.
A2 strokes 9S's hair, softly. It's comforting, having a shared pain after so long. Suddenly, her own wounds feel just as fresh, with 9S reeling over his own.
But it's a shared pain, at the very least.]
We can be of greater use to the humans here, 9S. I don't know how yet, but... I think we can accomplish things that just weren't possible back there.
no subject
Even so, those fingers in his hair? They do their intended job well. When was the last time anyone touched him in such a delicate way, let alone without gloves? It only goes to emphasize to him how affection starved he really was. Emotions and all that jazz were prohibited, after all. So were head pats.]
I mean...we're both smart, I'm sure we can think of something if we put our heads together, right?
[There's that spark of hope again, syllables laced with it.]
i cant believe 9S called A2 smart
Something like that, yeah. Sure. [She says, voice soft, but still gruff in her own A2 way.] I'll help you out. [That's her given role, after all, isn't it?]
hey she's smart...just in a different way
What an wild ride.]
Ow...ngh...
[His own hands reach up to cradle his skull, head hung for a brief moment as his sensors re-calibrate. Well...that was quite the bonding experience, wasn't it?]
...We're here.
thank you.... this tdm was getting too serious also plurk needs to STOP DYING
She rubs it idly, and moves to get out of the car, because honestly speaking, A2 has decided that she doesn't like cars. Like, at all.
Walking suits her just fine, thanks.]
C'mon, lets get your stuff. [She says, holding the door open for him while trying not to make eye contact any longer out of sheer embarrassment for having had such a sensitive moment with 9S.]
i cant keep it srs for too long ok AND YEAH IT DOES GOD fuuuu!!!!!
R-Right.
[Was that a stutter? Sure was. Off the cab goes, driving into the distance with a bit of a choked engine sound. The building they've been dropped off at is pretty...sketchy. Actually, sketchy is putting it nicely. The distaste is obvious on 9S' face as he hurries toward the front door, eager to get out of the rain. Why humans subjected themselves to live in such setups was something he'd wondered since happening across the ruins in the desert. Maybe he'd be able to finally put that question to rest.
The lobby is pretty underwhelming, not that 9S is really sure what he was expecting, but it's run down state doesn't bode well with what's supposed to be his designated room. Casting A2 a glance he starts down the corridor that leads to his room, silently hoping she'll follow him. It doesn't take much to get the door open either, and once he's inside he finds his belongings on the small cot he's been designated.]
Oh man-! My uniform!
no subject
She follows close behind him, not quite trusting to let 9S out of her sight for... multiple reasons, honestly.
A2 leans against the wall, trying to look as aloof as possible.]
Hurry up and put it on. This place is a wreck, even by our standards.
no subject
Once the blindfold is tied over his eyes, he finds himself relaxing, just a bit. At least he feels less exposed, like he can breathe again (even if he doesn't have to). Turning back to face A2 he smiles, even if the expression is a thin-lipped one.]
...Thanks, for indulging my little detour. Guess we should get out of here, huh?
no subject
You can dry off after we sign the contract and get back to where I'm staying.
[...A2 still doesn't know where the contracts get officialized, though.]
no subject
[Even if that means the two of them will end up soggy...which is clearly more of a concern to 9S than A2. She really doesn't give much of a fuck does she? As for figuring out where they need to go to get the paperwork done...leave that to 9S. Despite all his bitching and complaining, he's retained enough knowledge from his initial arrival and overhearing people's conversations to figure out where they're supposed to go.]
The court house for signing the contract is a few blocks west of here, apparently. It shouldn't be too busy this time of day. [Thanks Google Maps.] If we hurry there I doubt it should take long.
[After all, this was something they needed to do to inhabit this place. There really didn't seem like much of a way around it.]
no subject
It's a little harder when you're in a cab! They go so much slower than A2 alone is capable? And they're stuck following roads too.]
Let's hurry and get it over with then. [She says, like she has better things to do.
She doesn't.]
no subject
Nodding and gesturing toward the door, 9S wastes no more time in the dingy lobby of the motel, stepping back out to the wet pavement instead once more. At least this time he's dressed and covered, even if he's getting soaked. Hopefully he'll be able to have a bath once they arrive at wherever A2's place of living is.
Navigating the streets is easy enough, especially with the support from his HUD giving him constant updates, creating a mini map in real-time to display to him. The court house is a building that stands out among the rest, the doors large and foreboding, long handles made of brass waiting to be pulled open. In they go, 9S resisting the urge to shake himself off like a dog. That...probably wouldn't go over well.
The faces that greet the two of them are full of reserved smiles as they're ushered further inside and down the hall. A pamphlet explaining the process in simple terms and what to expect is placed in a gloved hand, which he quickly glances at, speed reading the contents. So...they really were going to do this, huh?]
Is it just me...or does this place give you the creeps? More so than the run down apartments?
no subject
It's weird.]
It sure does. [A2, patently, does not like it, and she can't help but stand a little closer to 9S, almost protectively. She has no idea what to expect, no idea that she couldn't protect 9S from humans in the first place if something happened.]
C'mon.
no subject
9S isn't sure whether to feel humbled or afraid - and what a strange feeling that was to have.
Out on a grand desk there's a book set out to be signed, a pen to the left of the document to be used. An old, barely awake man seems to preside over it all, wearing strange black robes. As the two of them step up to the table, they're encouraged to sign their names, but that comes with a slew of problems. It's not like 9S has a signature that isn't digital in nature. What was he supposed to do...just write his name? This is getting complicated...]
Uh, you first A2.
no subject
[A2 grabs the pen after looking at it for a full second, like she doesn't really know how to use one. Which is because she doesn't, so when she does grab it, she grabs it much like a toddler grabs a crayon.
Full fist.
Thankfully she seems to not crunch the pen in her grasp, and she writes a very sloppy: A2 on the name line.
And hands it over to 9S]
no subject
...Now what?
It feels as if they're stuck in bureaucratic hell as a woman congratulates them on behalf of the strange old man, telling them to take a seat in the waiting room as she goes to create licenses for them both. Take a seat she suggests.
The chairs look flimsy. It's probably not a good idea.]
Uh...congrats, I think?
no subject
So A2 sits.
There's a loud crack.]
Huh?
[Is all she manages to get out before there's a following SNAP, and then a crash, as A2 ends up on her ass, on a broken chair, on the floor. She's a little dazed, give her a moment.
She is, for the record, absolutely not hurt in the slightest.]
no subject
A gloved hand moves to cover his mouth immediately, as he does his best to stifle a laugh, before lowering same hand to offer it to help her up. Whether or not she takes it, he won't be offended either way.]
...You okay?
no subject
Instead of hoisting herself up with his help, she yanks him downwards. She heard that stifled laugh, asshole!
She's also getting up in the same moment, though, so 9S is left on the ground, and A2 is standing. She huffs.
Some woman quickly apologizes, and says she'll clean up the mess right away, and that it was an old chair to begin with, so that must be the reason.
A2 doesn't argue, but she's clearly unhappy.]
no subject
C'mon A2...that was uncalled for.
[The one lady who had run off to get their licences eventually returns with two plastic cards for each of them, containing all their information and signatures. They're to keep on hand, she explains, as an alternative to carrying around the physical paperwork. How...convenient.]
