It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up.

The LIEs Program has proven to be relentless in their search for the Deceit Gene by going to any length to push participants into sexual situations and contracts. It is clear now that the citizens of Duplicity support the LIEs Program. The ship, which docked in a powerless and empty city, has vanished back out to sea and as the fifteenth contract was signed, the lights have come back on. Duplicity is bustling again. In fact, it's as if nothing ever happened. If one was to ask they'd be met by either genuine or Oscar worthy confusion. The city was 'never' without power and daily life had never changed. Great, more bullshit. New arrivals are brought in the same way as they have in the past and that same, annoying, train tour is available the day after orientation. The city is in clean up mode. While the Up and the Down vary in levels of cleanliness, all of Duplicity is actively sprucing the place up. Fresh paint. Street cleaning. Those oh so satisfying pressure washers are out and about. There's a surprise visitor coming and Duplicity's government and the LIEs program are hasty to prepare. Duplicity needs your help! For every hour of cleaning, an Eternity Card usable for purchases by both Dominants and Submissives, will be loaded with twenty bucks. For every hour completed with a partner, it's thirty!

The day after stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

Waking into a room when he'd expected nothing was disconcerting, and the experience that followed left him dressed in something extremely uncomfortable as he was transported to his new residence. It didn't take him long to dress in the clothes waiting for him, his movements measured as he tied his tie.

And then it was stepping out to explore his surroundings, Elijah's gaze taking in the buildings and residents he passed as he walked only pausing when he was stopped and asked to help with the cleanup.

Which he agreed to. It wouldn't be the first or last time he'd performed this sort of work and keeping busy wouldn't hurt while he was learning his way around. He did return to his apartment to leave his jacket before returning to start working with rolled up sleeves as he starts painting the exterior of a building near his apartment.

Exploring the market after he'd finished work for the day left him standing in what passed for a bookstall, looking over the limited selection of notebooks. Not that it matters much which one he selects when he turns his attention to the vendor and finds himself being pointedly ignored.

Which leaves him putting the notebook down and turning away to try another stall.

[While Charles is still more than a bit disturbed on the apparent kidnapping and marking, he's keeping his outward calm, chair locked into position in the reserved seating area as the train continues its course through the city. There's something mildly... stiff about his posture. The way he's holding himself, entirely too still, especially for anyone who knows anything about Xavier and how animated he remains even without the use of his legs.

He's pulled himself back tight into his own mind, wary of slipping out to get a better grasp of just how many people are in this city. He'd done it briefly on processing, and it had been... unique. Humans, mutants, and others that he can't place, and so much... turmoil everywhere. Increased lust, confusion, rage, panic, joy, peace, all seeming to converge to a deadly point ready to pierce Charles' skull if he's not careful.

So instead, he stays quiet. Keeps his mind locked down. And listens to the tour.]

Still, at least he's able to send in a gentle 'suggestion' for doors to be held open should he decide to take a peek inside some of the establishments.

[This is stuff she's sued to, at least. If it wasn't for the lack of a mark, one might never guess Jennifer is supposed to be a Dominant. She works quietly and diligently, eyes downcast and with the distinct air of an injured puppy trying to avoid further repercussions. She's helping out wherever she's asked--or even if she's not, just taking over duties for lazier volunteers. Some take advantage of this, of course, and it might not be a surprise to find Jennifer doing almost all the work in a single area.

She doesn't complain, though. In fact she rarely speaks up at all and when she does it's in polite, soft tones, her voice tinged with an upper class British accent.

Someone's shirt's gotten torn and Jennifer can be found sitting to the side, quietly sewing it back together. After a moment there's a sudden yelp and she pulls away, a bright drop of blood beading down the tip of her finger as she grimaces and desperately looks around for a bandage or something.]

[Trains haven't changed too much from what Jennifer remembers, so she's able to relax a little bit, leaning back against her seat and tilting her head back to stare at the ceiling. It all seems too unreal still. She reaches up and pinches the back of ehr hand, wincing and rubbing at the spot when it inevitably hurts. She sighs softly and sits up, looking out the window and then around.

[ He was hoping that he would wake up and it would all be an elaborate dream. That was Yusuke's only hope, even if the Metaverse had returned somehow, this felt too real to be a part of it. All the poking and prodding that he'd stoicly endured, the long list of rules, the agonizingly long limo ride - as disorienting as it all was, it was too real to be anything but, and that's only confirmed for him when he wakes up in an unfamiliar bed, far away (and much nicer) than his living space back in the dorms.

When Yusuke steps aboard the train for the next day's orientation, he does so quietly, eyes glancing over everyone and everything, only growing more and more flustered by the whole situation. He finally finds his seat, where hopefully he can relax and figure out a way to make it through this perverse nightmare, only for it to be right next to someone else. He sighs, trying not to let his frustration with...well, all of this, show. ]

Excuse me. I'll have to move past you.

2 - riddler's square;

[ While he may be permitted to stay on the train and make his way back to the Up after the tour, Yusuke does not. If he is to live in this city, he wants to see all of it, see the people who have to suffer for his benefit. It's easy enough to understand what the Dominants get out of this system, but harder to understand why the Submissives put up with it, if the numbers are more or less equal. 

At least, that kind of information gathering was his noble plan, in coming here. The reality is that the poor boy is distracted almost immediately by a cart of elaborately painted sex toys. Not that he intends to use them - Yusuke is too inexperienced, he doesn't know anyone he'd like to use them with - but he isinterested, nonetheless. When in Rome, blow your stipend on ornately decorated didlos. ]

As he turns to apologize to someone, he's stopped in his tracks, running hard into whoever is in front of him with an embarrassing lack of grace. ]

[ Akira didn't think he meant sometime in the vague future, did he? It's more practical to just get it out of the way, figure out what he's doing now before he gets caught in something unsavory. But more than that, Yusuke likes this. He'd like it without the arousal-inducing balm, even if he wouldn't be so forward about it. On the rare occasion that he indulges himself in these kinds of fantasies (often Akira, sometimes the others...do you have to be beautiful to be a Persona user, as a rule?) they're nothing like this.

That's just as well, how would Yusuke have imagined that such a simple touch would make him moan like that? That he could coax that kind of beauty out of him gives him confidence, knocks his inhibitions back one step further. The sound goes right between his legs, making him lean into the hand on his waist, desperate for any more of his touches and pushing for more of his own, tangling his hand in Akira's hair further. It's not rough, but steadying, affectionate.

He pulls back to regain his breath, eventually, but not without an experimental nibble at Akira's lower lip. Yusuke, flushed and chest heaving, just...stares. ]

There is a short, onyx skinned tiefling with a set of curling horns and a tail snapping about irritatedly behind him. His eyes and hair match the same deep darkness as the rest of him. In fact, the only color he has on him is the stupid paper tunic he’s been given.

And he hates it.

“Well this is horrible.”

He pouts, which only makes his little tusks stick out more. Making a gesture with his hand, he touches the front of the robe and with a word changes it into a more brightly colored affair. Unfortunately, it doesn’t alter the fact that the tunic is still paper and it’s cold outside.

He also has no idea what a ‘limousine’ is besides the fact that it looks completely ridiculous.

Now that he’s properly attired in his obnoxious robe of a constantly shifting starscape of colors that never looks the same one moment to the next, Tenabris is going to do a lot of exploring. He has a very narrow view of the world and has desperately wanted to change that for years.

So there are a lot of questions being asked, personal bubbles being popped, and boundaries likely going to be broken as this little menace makes his way around the whole fundraising (whatever that means) campaign that appears to be going on.

“Whoops!” Tenabris chirps as he spritzes someone with this ‘DeFront’ business and gasps as their clothing disintegrates as advertised.

“Oh. Terribly sorry. I wasn’t completely clear on how this works.” He holds up the offending water pistol, not exactly holding it the way one is supposed to so he could be telling the truth. There’s also might be a bit more mirth in his eyes than strictly necessary.

And while he knows that his robe never gets dirty and mends itself when needed, he’s not going to take any damn chances and throws up a couple wards to keep any of this stuff from getting on it.

Just… ignore the random bear that appears and wanders around the area in confusion for a minute before disappearing again. He sure is.

As someone who’s adept in herbalism and potion making, Tenabris has taken a great interest in the wares Sugar Lips is offering. Especially considering he’s never encountered a lot of these things before.

His mother had never been the make-up wearing type, and things like chapstick and exfoliants didn’t exist as far as he was aware. So fascinating.

If he had his way he’d snag one of everything to try out. Given that he’s technically nobility he should absolutely get his way, so with a bit of illusory skullduggery, Tenabris is going to make out with a bunch of different things to play with.

Last Week On

[She's been on boats before. Rowboats, on a lake, back in the summertime at her parents' estate in the country. Small ferries that go up and down the Thames. This thing? A "train?" Absolutely intolerable. It moves so quickly, and seems to balance on little more than a rail. Every time it tilts and takes hairpin curves, the platinum-haired woman looks a little greener in complexion. She's still not convinced this isn't all some hallucination, especially since the first thing she remembers on waking here is being poked and prodded by medical staff. She's almost certain this is a place in her head she's retreated into, to escape from the guilt and horror she felt. But even when she pinches herself hard, she doesn't wake up.

She doesn't see the harm in trying the lip balm - it was one of the many small items that she would usually carry on her, but now has to make do without. I. LAST WEEK ON

[ Peter likes to think he's fairly good at adjusting to things. He settled into the reality of magic pretty quick after all, though that was a bit hard not to notice after a while. He suddenly lives in a world of spirits and subterranean cultures and fae creatures and river gods, and he's fine with that. Even the whole nearly getting killed by a unicorn thing.

This, though. Peter has no way to process all of this. A city that's decided how to stratify him on pure chance and has not at all been shy in telling him he should probably start liking it. Then there's all the sex. That's just...it's a lot.

Which is why he has decided to fall back on the fine English tradition of simply ignoring all of it. Maybe he'll have to go back and work through it all later, but for now? He's found a job to do and he's doing it. Cleaning may not be his favorite thing, but it is something he can do and do well, so fine. He'll just focus on that and maybe the world will start making sense again when he's done.

The pressure washers are kind of fun in an odd way, anyway. Like playing with a hose turned up to eleven. At least until the thing suddenly sputters and goes quiet. Peter stares at it in exasperation for a moment, and then in a moment of pure frustration just lobs a small impello at the thing, the pure force of the spell knocking into the motor hard enough to start it up again. He shouldn't be using magic that open, probably. At the moment, he's not sure he cares. ]

II. WHISTLE FOR ME

[ Whatever this place keeps trying to tell him about what he can and can't do, Peter is still a policeman. It's not something you just turn off. So he might be just a bit on alert as he walks through the market, paying a lot more attention to the people than he is to the merchandise. (Which he's reasonably sure he doesn't want to know about anyway). It pays off when he sees a man take one of those pistols from the table he's standing near and turn to point it at an unsuspecting woman. Peter doesn't even hesitate before he suddenly puts himself between them.

It's not that he thinks the gun is real, he can tell it's a toy. But he's seen enough of what whatever that liquid is to know exactly what it does, and that's not something you do to random strangers. Of course, it means that Peter's shirt is merrily dissolving now. Too bad he didn't have time to get a shield spell up, not that it would probably have blocked all of it. But better him than the lady. ]

You want to maybe try asking, next time?

It's such an embarrassment, to be reduced to this. Cleaning up someone else's literal trash for money, just to get by. If there were... anything like fields or forests to hunt in, anything which looked remotely familiar, he'd not have bothered. What kind of people got by without farms? It was the first time in his life he'd had cause to miss natural beauty, and it hits him quietly and hard.

A fucking tour. He'd distracted himself early on with conversation, trying to throw himslef into the company of anyone who looked good for it, but as the day wears on, he just gets more and more unresponsive.

When he doesn't find Yona, he just... starts asking himself: what would she do?

[Now, a ritzy train, that's way better than cleaning up. Gyro hasn't honestly been on many trains in his life, let alone one that is so futuristic and Fancy for Dominants like himself, and so he's having a pretty decent time taking in the sights as the train takes them around the Up. In fact, at one point, he'll even turn to whoever's next to him with a clever grin—]

III. mechanical bull prompt

[Or, of course Gyro likes getting drunk in rowdy saloons. That's the best. The mechanical bull is new - he's never seen one before, but it's something to ride and look cool doing it, so of course he is here for it.

It helps, at least in terms of how much the crowd wants to cheer him on, that he's like 6'2" and dressed like a cowboy, toe to tip. He makes a whole production of just getting on the thing, all poses and charming smiles, and the first go at it he takes goes... pretty well! Almost too well, like something is pinning him physically to the mechanical bull while it jerks around in ways that really should throw him off just by simple laws of physics. He lasts honestly until the next patrons start getting antsy about wanting their own turn, at which point the discerning viewer may notice him casually slip what looks to be a metal ball into a holster at his hip once he hops down from the bull.

Surely, there are no insane mathematical powers of spinning toys really fast at work here. Surely, the next time he goes up, he does not forget this little metal ball at his table, and surely he does not look abruptly horrified when he reaches for his hip and finds the holster empty at the exact moment the bull revs up its engines.

This time, he will definitely wind up flung into the crowd, but he's fine. It's fine.]

[Cleaning is fun?! Kija wants to be helpful, so when he's finally allowed to dress again and his dragon arm has stopped being fondled by doctors (eugh), he's eager to get into the... helpful spirit.

II. train adventure

[This is all very jarring and Kija would love to go back home or at least miraculously locate his gaggle of weird friends, but for now - he's just staying on this train. He's riding it back and forth rather than get out and do anything more touristy, or... otherwise... Sitting there stiffly and looking back and forth at all the strangers is apparently entertaining enough for him.

Of course, every time a local pair gets on the train and makes an overt display of just who is the Dominant and who is the Submissive, he stares and then flushes scarlet. So forward... maybe he should stop staring, but nope, that's not happening.

[Kija is the absolute last person anyone should trust with product testing, most of all because of how gullible he is. Or perhaps that is... actually why he's been flagged down by basically every vendor trying to push their product; even after the first mortifying experience, he doesn't learn to say no, assuming the next one will be better. It takes only a twitch of movement from the person holding the water gun for Kija to reach over with his (huge) dragon hand and take the gun away. He crushes it, dropping the pieces all over the ground, and is still too mortified to move. What if the rest of the water drips down to his pants...!!! Help.

B. Or, he's foolishly applied lip balm, and is either swooning at the slightest provocation or, more like the Dominant he's supposed to be, going in for the pin-against-the-wall maneuver. Spoiled a little by how he's flushed to the ears and looks strained, but look, sexual feelings are new and wild. In a low voice, what he manages is:]

A. Millions of Mischief

[ When she awakens in an unfamiliar, Ritsuka thinks that she's somehow rayshifted in her sleep once more - until she passes through a door and is taken aback by the crowd of people waiting for her. It begins to dawn on her that this is no accident, but that thought is sidetracked as she's immediately swarmed and disrobed, letting out indignant squawks and noises of protest as she's poked, prodded, and scrubbed, before she was led outside to wait for a bus to what she told would be her living quarters.

And just like that, she's left alone, with a million questions and no satisfactory answer. They'd told her she was in a place called 'Duplicity' and that she was here to help find something, that the line across her throat meant that she was a submissive - but none of that made any sense.

But they could had at least left her a jacket or something, she thinks as she sneezes and hugs herself to ward off the cold, leaning forward to try and catch sight of the bus that should hopefully be here soon. ]

B. History of Looking

[ Making her way through the carriages, Ritsuka tries hard not to stare at the passengers coming and going, especially as everyone else seems to be acting as if it were normal. Especially the sight of a Dominant sitting upon the back of a Submissive, as if it were a perfectly ordinary thing to do; Ritsuka can't help but touch her throat nervously, wondering if that's what her future here in this place is going to look like.

But standing around looking like a deer caught in the headlights would probably be the fastest way to get there. While she's here on the tour they offer, she might as well try to see what this place is like, and scans the carriage for the nearest open window seat. There's one available, but it looks like she'll have to squeeze past the occupant sitting in the aisle seat - if they were saving the window seat for something. ]

[ The last Master of Humanity looks dubiously at the watergun in her hand. It just looks like a toy filled with water to her, and she can't really see how it's possible for it to just melt away clothes and nothing else. It honestly sounds like some sort of scam, or the fever dreams of a pervert. ]

How is that even supposed to work? I mean, if it can actually dissolve someone's clothes, what if it's something really expensive or their favorite t-shirt? How do they get it back?

[Truth be told, hustle and bustle has always been oddly comforting to Lilly. The fact that there's so many people means that it's easy for her to blend in, and it's easy to follow the crowd to where she needs to be. Of course, it has its downsides too - little space to move her cane, and if she gets lost or swept in the wrong direction it's a hell of a thing to find her way back, but overall, she can't say she minds it.

Of course, all of that only applies to home. The hustle and bustle here is quite different, different enough to make Lilly tap her feet against the floor to try and work out the nerves. She can't see oddities like Dominants sitting on the backs of submissives, but she sure can hear it - the whispered back and forths, the 'mistresses' and 'masters.'

It's odd. Odd enough that she's grateful for the distraction of someone walking up to her. She tilts her head upwards at the voice, eyes unfocused and hazy. Slowly, she reaches out to the seat beside her, just to make sure nobody's actually there, that nobody's left some bag or something there to 'claim' it. After a few moments of gingerly patting around, she shakes her head.]

Last Week On

This was a good way to spend the afterlife. He was happy. No really, getting stuck in sex hell and then relegated to literally sweeping the streets was a good way to wake up after dying. Nyx just grumbled under his breath. He had no magic anymore, so it had been far easier to subdue him than he'd like to admit, but at least they somehow had his Kingsglaive uniform repaired and ready to wear, so he wasn't doing it naked.

Well, Nyx could think of a couple worse ways to make money (especially in this city), though he needed to finish and go information hunting soon. "At least it's not gate duty again..."

The moment someone walked or brushed something into his street, he looked up and glared at them. "HEY! You either help me clean this damn street up, or get out of here."

Actually, he'd rather be still cleaning up the streets, because he was in this market and now completely in sex hell. At least the Arena sounded more up his alley, but being a damned Sub was going to throw a wrench in any plans he had.

One of the vendors selling these so called fildos was getting a bit too pushy, and Nyx knew better than to draw his knives right then. Still, he'd had enough of playing nice. Nyx flipped off the salesperson, saying, "You want to make a mold of this??"

Train Ride

Ikuya hadn't minded riding the train, and he'd been interested in the stops, but watching some of the people be ordered off at Riddler's Square bothered him. The people who were in charge really weren't being very nice to them, and it was only a portion of the people, not everyone. What made them different? Had they done something wrong? He hadn't noticed anyone doing anything bad . . .

Then again, the idea of standing up and making an objection wasn't really very appealing. Ikuya sighed and turned away, looking out his window. There was probably a reason they were being yelled at, and it wasn't like anyone was actively hurting them or anything. They were just being told to get off and go home. Not exactly nice, but not terrible either. He heaved another sigh and planted his chin on his palm, watching the people file past the window back into the city, unsettled.


Defront

A table full of waterguns made Ikuya smile. They reminded him of home, at least until he realized it wasn't water they shot. He backed up quickly as he watched someone's clothing just . . . disintegrate. What the hell kind of stuff was in those guns!? Ikuya backpedaled some more, accidentally knocking into people as he tried to make sure none of the stuff got on him.

He hadn't gone inside yet, but the scents that came out of the door were awfully appealing. Ikuya peered in the window, trying to ignore the more . . . risque elements of the place.
