It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the deceit gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the LIEs program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the deceit gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from LIEs after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

... and you're here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of Orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You're a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high-rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You're a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you'll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Submissives are provided with a plain black pleather collar to wear and Dominants are given bracelets made of the same black pleather. The simple design is an immediate visual indicator that they have not yet signed a contract and they will be informed that more elaborate or personalized styles are a privilege reserved for those who do.

After stepping through the door and participating in Orientation, LIERs are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERs at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

The featured workshop at this month's Orientation is a trust-building "ropes course." Deepen your bond with your partner and explore the balance between restraint and freedom, as well as the power dynamics inherent in this hands-on learning opportunity. You'll discover the beauty of patience, communication, and connection as you weave intricate patterns of rope around each other's bodies.

The class portion of the workshop is brief, featuring demonstrations by NPC Dominants and Submissives, after which characters of opposite designations will be paired up and expected to replicate what was shown. Printed handouts from LIEs will be passed around with step by step instructions for their reference—though some may be less than clear, or only include pictures and diagrams without written directions. Do your best!

Want to escape the unpleasantness of the Down? Arrivals are encouraged to partner up and participate in an ongoing public art installation in the Up where they will be invited to shed inhibitions and embrace the raw essense of self-expression through a unique medium: their stained bed sheets. The exhibition is being held in Fiddler's Square's very own Stay & Play Hotel where pairs may rent time in a special reserved block of rooms to work on their intimate canvases. Uncontracted pairs may get a steep discount, or even a free room if they are convincingly passionate. All sheets in these rooms are reactive to moisture of any kind, and each room is stocked with complimentary lubricants and body paints.

Through tactile engagement and artistic interpretation, attendees redefine the unity and celebration of their designations coming together and celebrate the complexity and beauty of their experience. Unleash your creativity, and join in defining the art of expression.

The Down isn't a very pleasant place to be, especially for newcomer Submissives who are forced to live in public housing. While the state of the building complex is nothing to phone home about at the best of times, this particular month it's abysmal. Much needed repairs on the plumbing have been ignored for far too long and, after a particularly chilly winter, the hot water heaters are bust. They need replacing, but who is going to pay for that? It'll take some time and a bunch of bureaucratic red tape before the water in the city-provided housing turns warm again. Enjoy your cold showers for the foreseeable future! Or, y'know, suck up to a Dominant and ask them to use their shower.

But wait! There's more! As if the plumbing problems aren't bad enough, there is also some kind of gas leak, and a nasty one at that. It doesn't seem to be flammable and no one will be dying in their sleep, but that's the only good news. The fumes from the gas are invisible and also odorless, leaving unsuspecting Submissives (and anyone else who visits the building, for that matter) at the mercy of the effects. In the common areas of the building the exposure is the strongest, but it still seeps into character's rooms as well.

Inhaling the gas will leave characters feeling loopy and more open to interacting with others. Some may find that they're feeling extra cuddly and needy, if not outright horny because of it. The rarest—and one of the least pleasant—side effects are the hallucinations some characters may experience, causing them to mistake others for people they may know.

After a few days the leak will be repaired, but it'll take a few more days following the fix for the building to be aired out completely.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but the assignments are OOCly randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right." When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass." This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide:

If your character is more lawful, they are a Submissive. If your character is more chaotic, they are a Dominant.

To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to tag on new TDMs with different designations for fun!

Test Drive threads can be used as activity proofs for characters currently in-game.

[That gets her giggling. Whatever deviousness that smile might be implying clearly doesn't affect Diva in the slightest. Her proverbial feathers aren't ruffled anymore and it'd be a lie if she said he didn't catch her interest.]

No, I wouldn't mind... [How quick she is to change her tune, even if it's obvious that her confidence seems to falter just a bit.] But...you'll be nice about it, right? I don't really like being tied up. It's upsetting.

Oh dear. It upsets you? We can't be having that, can we?
[ Despite how taunting it sounds, there is a hint of sympathy there, in his eyes, despite all the devilish energy he exudes.

With a soft nod of his head and a brief laugh of his own, he confirms that. ]

This once, I will be nice about it. Our first meeting ending in tears would be a tragedy far greater than any other.

[ A hand is offered, as if they were making a deal of some sort. ] I promise to be gentle with you, Lady Diva. Do you accept?

Of course it does. I spent the first fifty years of my life chained up in a dingy tower.

[Don't mind that little sprinkle of trauma dumping Lilia. Blinking at the offered hand she nods after a moment, setting her own dainty little palm in his. He's charming, but that's not a bad thing.]

Okay...I accept. If you promise.

[ Ah. Well. That certainly explained it. Anyone who was locked up, chained up for over fifty years, would have a certain negative connotation to being tied up.

Bringing her hand up, he carefully presses a kiss to the back of it, as one might do when greeting a lady of her standing. ]

I do. You are in the best hands you could possibly be in!

[ Mm, it was a little more than he'd asked for, but he was enamored by her, with her attitude. Her mannerisms. ]

I will start slow. Each step of the way, I want you to tell me if it's too much.

[If there's one thing Diva has in spades it's natural charm, despite how ridiculous she can be. The kiss to the back of her hand has her cheeks warm, large blue eyes fixed on vibrant red.]

Mm, okay. I'll tell you. I'm not shy so you'll know if I'm not happy.

[ Letting her hand fall back down, Lilia shifts to peek at the diagram he'd been given earlier on, studying it briefly. Alright, he had a good idea of where to start. ]

I do have to warn you, [ He begins, grasping the rope now in both hands, tilting his head back slightly as he studies her. ] don't fall for me, Lady Diva, no matter how sweet I treat you. Khee hee hee!

[ He erupts in laughter, shifting to begin their task, his hands carefully grasping her wrists, bringing them together. ]

[She lets him move her wrists together, limbs and body relaxed as she watches him curiously. The comment has her giggling herself, head tilting slightly to the side.]

Ah, I should be the one warning you...but don't worry! My heart has been stolen away. That doesn't mean I don't think you're handsome though. Your fangs are cute.

[ His touch is gentle, as careful as could be when it came to her, after the concerns she'd shared with him about being tied up.

A fanged smile is offered at the compliments. ]

Why, thank you! You, too, radiate with a beauty that cannot be put into words.

[ The compliment is followed up by Lilia beginning to wrap her wrists in the rope, tight but not TOO tight, he hopes. ]

I know.

[She watches quietly for a moment as he ties her wrists together. She could break free at any moment if she wished to, she's strong enough to, but she's put her trust in him for now. There's no reason why he would hurt her.]

I'm glad you recognize it though.

[ Lilia begins to put more of his focus on the task at hand, careful as he ties a knot at her hands, before moving behind her, leading the rope behind her to follow the directions of the diagram. ]

Now, this might hurt a little. Please tell me if it's too tight. We're a team in this exercise, after all.

Mmkay.

[She seems unphased for the moment as he begins to bring the rope around her, standing behind her back. So far so good - she isn't nervous in the slightest.]

Have you done this before?

Once or twice. In a different context altogether.

[ The answer is vague, as Diva would learn from a lot of his answers about his history and past, regardless of how serious or silly the facts were.

His hand moves to rest on her hip, as if to steady her from behind as he lifts part of the rope into another spot, pulling tight. This was where this would become restricting, pinning her wrists to her chest.

In a way, was that hand on her hip to reassure, then?]

And you? Have you ever tied up someone for fun, or been tied up for fun? Am I right to assume not, given your feelings on this type of activity?

Not to this extent, no. [She's had her wrists bound before in bed, but beyond that she was never really restrained completely.] I've tied people up before but not in a sexy way really...

[Even with Tsurugi it was never this much.]

Sex isn't really fun if you can't touch the person you're with.

[ It's sweet, in a way, how she viewed sex. Being about to touch your partner could be half the fun, though to Lilia there was always something so enticing about being able to have his way with someone, watching them squirm needily under his touch-- you know, why not say this aloud, see if he could get a rise out of her?]

On occasion, it's enjoyable, although I rarely would go as far as they're asking us today. If you're the one to tie up your partner, you get to watch them squirm in anticipation. Their heart pounds in their chest, and usually, they're laid bare, completely at mercy to your whims alone.

[ His hand wanders up from her hip, carefully tracing her waist. He leaned in, it seemed, to speak more directly into her ear, his voice lowering to allow only her to hear him.]

Doesn't that sound nice? Think about it, someone with only your pleasure in their mind, teasing you with feather light touches, watching as you squirm and beg for something more. They wouldn't give much, of course, not until you begged thoroughly. All they'd offer are kisses, touches, until you're so worked up that you can barely contain your pleas.

[ Leaning back, he returns to a normal volume. ]

At the very least, that seems to be the appeal.

[Diva can't help it. His voice in her ear and the press of his body against hers is already getting her going. If he's going to speak to her in such a way, well, she'll consider it. And if she's considering the idea that he's putting in her mind then, well...]

Do you want to make me beg then? To pleasure and tease me until I want you entirely? Is that appealing?

[ Oh. She was that easy to get worked up, then, huh? Lilia can feel a slight flush come to his face, allowing his nails to dig in ever so slightly against her waist. ]

I admit, that'd be fun. Are you sure you'd be up for it? You did mention, after all, that you find being tied up upsetting. I wouldn't want to upset you, as much as I do wish to watch you squirm.

Well then just don't make it upsetting. Besides, you're cute. I wouldn't mind having sex with you, especially if you pay me as much attention as you say you will.

[Look, she's horny by default and how often is it that she can spend time with someone who looks similar to her? Sure, he's not a chiropteran, but he reminds her a bit of Charles what with the way he looks and she likes that.]

If we finish up here then we can have a bit of real fun somewhere else.

[ This was a welcome surprise, truly. Someone this raring and ready to go, to let him make good on his words. It reminds him of several of his classmates, who prefer him to put his money where his mouth is.

Not that he's slept with any of them. Probably. Maybe. ]

Alright, it's a deal then. You will have my full attention, Lady Diva. I will treat you, [ His hands get back to tying her up, a small grunt escaping him as he tugs the rope together, tying off another knot, ] like I treat royalty.

Perhaps - hmm - with a bit more attention to how you feel, regardless of what manners I need to uphold with someone of your status.

[For better or worst Diva is blunt and painfully honest at times. Lying isn't something she does, despite her devious streak. At his agreement she giggles, happy to have something more entertaining than this to look forward to. There's a slight grunt out of her as the rope tightens around her. She's not bothered though, now that everything's been reframed.]

Okay. That sounds nice Lilia. [It did sound nice.] I'll behave here but I can't promise I will when we're alone.

Oh, I'd rather you don't, dear. If there's anything I couldn't adore more, it's how adorable a feisty girl or guy can be.

[ With that comment, he focuses his attention on finishing this task as quickly as he could, without his knots being too sloppy due to the rush of them. His hands occasionally slip to her waist, pulling her close to him and making some little comment about how good she was doing.

At last, he finishes, standing in front of her, his hand on his chin. ]

My, my, I might've just outdone myself...

[To her credit, Diva's managed to remain still as he works his magic and ties her up. She does seem a bit uncomfortable but she does well to endure it. As she watches him look her up and down, appreciating his handy work, she can't help but wiggle a bit.]

You think so? Why? Do you like what you see?

[ One sharp index finger presses under her chin, his eyes focused completely on her. ]

How could I not? The most essential piece to this work of art is you, after all. ...How does it feel?

Not terrible.

[She smiles at him at the feel of his finger beneath her chin.]

But that's because you did a good job, I think.

[ Another giggle escapes the man, his hand moving back from her chin to allow him to rest it on his own chin, thinking for a second. ]

Hm, yes, that'll do just fine. [ He tells himself, before glancing aside. ]

I think that's all we need to do, Lady Diva. I can free you and we can get out of here for that real fun, if you're ready.

Mm, I'm ready, I'm ready!

[She squirms a bit more, clearly ready to be untied and move onto far more interesting (and fun) prospects.]
