TDM #4 ( revised )
« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »
It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |
Eizen | Tales of Berseria | Submissive
[Being ushered around and told what to do is not something Eizen is very good at even if he’s trying to be as polite as he can be as he sneers at the medics helping him. Though once he’s free and on the train ride, things become more bearable.
It’s not a ship, but exploring is part of his nature, so he’ll take it. However, seeing the roles and the people content with who they are, well… he’s not buying this. People who are content to serve others— okay so it’s one thing if they’re doing it of their free will, but it's another to be told he has to for a blind decision he made. He’s also not fond of the mark that’s been placed on him, but what can he do other than just get upset about it.
As long as someone doesn’t try to tell him what to do, he’ll be fine. Though it’s clear he’s a little uneasy about it as a result since he doesn’t really need to be singled out about this.
Hah…]
I suppose this is all part of my curse.
[At least that helps him keep this all light-hearted despite the fact that he’s absolutely pissed.]
ii. AT THE DOWN
[Eizen notes the food here is awful. Right now, he's thankful he’s a Malak because he doesn’t need food to live. Though when he tries to grab a beer just so he has something, he does cough at the awful taste not at all happy with what he's been given.
With a scowl of disapproval, he protests:]
Isn’t there anything better?
[He’s happy to have his free will, but being treated like trash just for this designation he’s been given is sort of grating on his nerves. With a sigh, he finishes his drink, but he’s unhappy about it. Clearly, he’s going to be breaking a lot of rules playing this role and quite frankly, part of him is okay with it. It’s honestly no fun if everything was just handed to him, right?]
iii. AUTONOMY
[Whether it’s by chance or by actual snooping (probably both) Eizen is able to get access to the ‘traveling’ club. Here, he’s visibly more at ease since he doesn’t have to prance around so many rules. Not that he minds breaking them, but here he is.
Here he is with a bottle of rum at his disposal to drink as he watches others. He’s not human, so sex was never necessary for him, but he’s curious about it. Humans are passionate and he knows they love to court. He’s seen his own men on his ship try to bring women back countless times in their fits of passion (or horniness) that have overcome them. He likes women himself and finds them aesthetically pleasing, but never has he felt the need to court. Of course, Malakhim can have relationships, but it’s not quite the same and the emotion of suddenly feeling like another Malak has a ‘relationship’ with one another, well it’s a very sudden feeling that no one really tries to argue with.
So he’s curious. He wants to know more from the humans (and nonhumans who have desires) here. Grabbing a glass he pours a second bottle of rum for someone who’s eye he’s caught while sitting at a booth.]
Join me for a drink.
[He wants to know how this works since a lot of his experience in ‘courting’ back home has left him with a bitter taste in his mouth.]

And, if by some off chance someone finds his company equally “refreshing” and he gets a row out of it -- in the dojo or the bedroom -- then this expedition will have been worth his time, now won’t it?Anyway. With the events of Patara not quite indiscernible yet in his personal rearview mirror, as before, he’s content to mingle for a while, until that moment when he rounds a particular corner and--
--and jolly old saint Nissen’s unrepentant mindfuck continues.
It's Eizen. Not a dragon circling the skies, cut down by Sorey; but the man. The Reaper. Aifread's cursed First Mate, and Rokurou's comrade-in-arms, just as he remembers him. He should rightly be shocked, but he isn't. Rather--]
You don't even have to ask.
[ Granted, it may or may not have hit him yet that he's not dreaming; not taken another wrong sip of something somewhere, thereby allowing his unwittingly-addled mind to conjure all of this up. Nevertheless, he pulls up a seat, just like old times.
(Okay, maybe they weren't "old" times, but they feel so long ago...) ]
Man, of all the people I thought I'd never see in this place...
[ He can't even finish the sentence without lapsing into bitter chuckling, head shaking, dark hair swaying over over a single red eye as he reaches for that freshly-filled glass. ...Yeah. He's gonna need that.
Eizen is too, from the look of it -- Rokurou can tell from a glance that, somehow or another, he's been marked a Submissive. Oh wow. That'll go over real well, once he learns the ins and outs of it, now won't it... ]
So they got you too, huh?
no subject
He'll just have to take the wheel and steer his life as best he can while he's here. If it gets him into some trouble, well, that's just a consequence the people here are going to have to deal with, aren't they? They were the chucklefucks who thought it funny to make him this, now they're going to pay.
So for the first time here, Eizen actually smiles as he takes a sip of his drink, enjoying the burn as it goes down. Damn, did he miss real alcohol.]
Guess they did. They're going to regret every moment of it, too.
[And given it's Eizen, he'll make damn sure of that, too.]
no subject
I’ll bet. [ A soft ‘heh’ of a chuckle. ] Good to know you haven’t changed a bit. [ Really, really good, in truth, all things considered.
In the weeks since since Patara, Rokurou has, if nothing else, had time enough by now to process the fact that what he saw of Eizen’s future was his future, beyond the shadow of a doubt. What he hasn’t come to terms with yet, however, is what he makes of the whole thing, or how he somehow duped himself into contracting the guy behind the act... who doesn’t seem like such a bad kid, in truth. A far cry from the Shepherd they know, suffice it to say.
On that note, he’ll drink to that, taking a swig of the alcohol in his glass, despite it being something other than his preference. The burn from it is different than his standard fare; its taste a crueler, harsher bite.
But that’s just Eizen’s type, now isn’t it?
A silence lapses thereafter, long enough for the daemon to savor the effect of his drink with a long exhale, head craned back. But hey, at least he’s not making with the contract talk straightaway, right? Knowing Eizen, he’d probably take offense and want to throw down--
...hm. Maybe he should mention contracts. ]
So, you just get in?
no subject
What would make you think that I would change at all?
[C'mon, even Rokurou should understand that, but maybe being in a place like this would make one wonder if their personality would change just a little. Though in Eizen's case it's just making his personality 'shine' that much more. Granted, he hasn't had much of a chance to rebel against the system yet. More or less, he had been trying to find a place with a good drink first so he could mull over his future potential bad decisions.]
However, to answer your question, I have just gotten here. And as you may suspect, I'm not exactly settling well. The lodging isn't bad since I'm used to rooming on a boat and I don't need to eat, but the terrible alcohol is unforgivable. [He's already trying to figure out how to steal some from the Up or even from this place.]

Still, he was inviting her over, and she had come to the club to meet people, so she might as well see what he wants to talk about. She walks over to him, drink already in hand, and gives him a bit of a confused look. ]
I think I'm going to have to decline that drink, but if you want to talk we can do that.
[ Look she's already on her second drink which for back home is two too many. It was nothing personal. ]
no subject
Though offering a drink to a young lady that already has a drink, now that may have not earned him many points and even he understands that could be seen as a little skeevy. Luckily, she doesn't seem to see it in that light as he offers her a wry smile and holds his glass up.]
If you would be willing to chat, I'd like that.
[It's a good chance to get more information and make an acquaintance in this godforsaken place.]
no subject
She sits in the booth across from him, smiling as she does so.]
So, I guess we should probably get some of the major questions out of the way. I'm Videl, and I've been in this city for a little over three months now.
no subject
I'm Eizen, and I guess I'm a new arrival. Can't say I'm happy with how thing have turned out, but we'll see where my actions lead me.

So she shouldn't be surprised that someone 'caught' her. She was just curious, but now she's being dragged into something. She looks over at him, curious, eyes flitting between him and the drink.
She's drank a couple of times. In general. She performs, after all, and sometimes alcohol gets used as a prop. Usually fake, but sometimes they wind up rehearsing with a random bottle of wine, just for convenience's sake, mime drinking from it. One or another of the girls will joke about who has to actually drink it once they're done. Nana tends to take care of it just to settle all the teasing.
She glances at the drink, then slowly steps over, crouching down as she joins him in the booth.]
Hehe. It's kind of sad to drink without eating, you know? [Her voice is comforting, soft.] But we can have a little. It's even sadder to polish off a bottle by yourself.
no subject
Then again, Eizen isn't exactly human, despite appearing as one, so those kinds of qualities aren't necessary for him to pick out of others. Especially now when he just wants a place where he isn't told what and better yet, has decent alcohol.
And right now he's a non-human that wants company and can only hope his curse doesn't affect others negatively. Granted, he doesn't get the choice in that, but sometimes he hopes his domain can be kept in check. So he smiles when he can get a stranger come to drink with him, and chuckles a little at the comment she's made.]
I suppose that's something a human would say. [His voice is amused and soft in return, not at all chastising her for not picking up on his spiritual qualities. In fact, even most humans back in his world can't.] Normally, I'd have my crew to drink with me, so you're right. It is a little sad to be drinking by myself. That's why I figured I'd call out to someone to join me. [As he offers the glass to her.]
If it's too strong, I can get something milder for you.
no subject
She takes the glass, turns it over in her hands.]
Your crew? Eheh, I'm missing my troupe, too. I guess it's too much to ask for people to show up here in nice little rows. [She's trying to stay casual about it, but the truth is, it's scary for her. She's never been without them for this long, not since she met them. She nearly burnt herself out making sure of that.]
What's your crew like, then? Actually, what are you a crew of? [The word 'crew' makes her think of troublemakers, but he seems - put-together enough. Even if he's apparently a heavy drinker. And one of the few people she's met in her life that's taller than her.]
no subject
If you're part of a troupe, is it for the circus, dancing, or theatre? [At least those are the only times he's heard the word 'troupe' attributed to where he's from. Then again, what he's thinking and what she actually does are still going to be two different things...
...as for him...]
My crew, however, we're pirates. I'm the first mate of our ship. I guess you could say we're the lawless types, but at the end of the day, we're a family of misfits. [The way he talks about them is like they're his family, too.]
autonomy
Depends on what you're looking for in exchange for the drink.
[ Nothing in life is free, usually. However cynical he might be feeling at the time, he'd take it with a pinch of salt that attractive strangers are handing out glasses of rum freely without looking for something in exchange. ]
no subject
Information.
[He comes from a place where information is expensive. A drink would get you some common knowledge that maybe a person didn't know and could find out with a little bit of asking people around. However, Eizen's found that a little difficult outside given his current status.
All part of his terrible luck.
With that, he does slide the glass in his direction just to see if his hook will latch.]
I'm new here and as you can see, getting information has been a little difficult for me. [Being marked as a submissive and all.]
Also maybe just a normal chat and someone, for once, not telling me what to do.
no subject
[ ... Well. He's got nothing to lose from all this. With a shrug, he slides into the seat opposite, but for the moment doesn't take the drink. ]
Sucks for you. It doesn't get much better, although the Up probably isn't so bad if you're the kind of asshole who revels in privilege no matter how you got it.
[ Intentionally or not, his eyes linger on the line down the other man's neck. As far as Yuri's concerned, everything about this place sucks, but seeing people with that line running down their neck tends to leave him feeling more ticked off at this place than usual. That's for sure. ]
I'm guessing you've been introduced to all the delights and wonders of people bossing you around like they think they have the god-given right to?
no subject
[It's funny because he should know what it's like, but whatever deity exists that resides over him decided to have fun ruining his life as soon as he found even a hint of contentment. Maybe it's his own damn fault-- it could be-- but he can only take things in stride now and that includes this messed up place.]
And maybe people can try to govern me, but I promise, it's not going to end well for them at all.
[Being a pirate and all, it's really difficult to try to even be a good citizen. Even more so when he's being forced into the very slavery he despises with every part of his being.]
It's no different than the humans who control my kind because they believe it's their right to. And like there, I'm going to fight it no matter how much trouble it lands me.
[He'll curse them all, if need be.]

hello there?!? + here we are again
(and maybe he missed Eizen yelling at him for the last, what, eight centuries before he decided to haunt Rayfalke Spiritcrest as a fucking dragon.)
I mean, there's only one man who looks at his blessing and thinks, "yeah it's a Curse." ]
... Well, I wasn't expecting this.
S C R E E C H E S
Though the voice he hears could also very well be part of the curse, even if things have settled between the two. Plus some.
So he's about to face Zaveid and potentially make a remark, but... this is definitely not the Zaveid he remembers. He can't help but eye him from head to toe, trying to make heads or tails of this (spoilers: it's tails).]
Is this supposed to be some kind of joke?
[In other words, he's very confused.]

And sure, his hair is longer, but hey, it looks good on him. ]
Dunno, I remember you and your buddies being a right serious bunch. [ He probably knows about Magilou dragging everyone to do skits in various towns, but that's probably when Eizen was on his nth drink a few centuries before he turned into a dragon. Shrugs.
Still, he's actually (actually!) glad to see Eizen. He's just not showing it right. ]

I really can't say I appreciate what's going on, but I'll just have to take things as they come.

this is a beautiful thread. thank you.

Unfortunately, not there. [Her eyes wander over to his cup before back at him.] Some other places, you have to do your best to try to win their favour. If not, one must have just any Dominant around them at all times. Otherwise.
[Theft. Which she admittedly, did have to do in the beginning.]
What are you looking for?
no subject
[And it won't ever happen, no matter what sort of rules are imposed upon him. Or even punishment. How could he call himself the first mate of Aifread's crew if he didn't uphold his pirate code?]
You're suggesting I steal, right? Not a problem for me.
[Probably not a good thing to openly admit, but he's never been one to hide who he is or his intentions. Just know the right people and you get what you want.
He takes another drink, despite how nasty this stuff is. Ugh, he can't even get a good buzz on this crap.]
All I want is good alcohol. Whiskey, bourbon, rum, you name it. Hell, I'll take a decent beer at this point.
no subject
[Something many people do, since even Dominants come with their own problems. These "bonds" are too forced.
Also, he's a bit too honest, isn't he?!]
If you're going to steal, one should not proclaim it, no? Others may hear. But I'll pretend.
[She narrows her eyes for a minute when he takes another drink, wincing because it doesn't seem like he's enjoying himself at all. Surely it will be fine to just take her to their workplace?]
Very well. If you follow me, I will take you to where I work. It is a cafe during the day, but a bar during the evening, so perhaps we can make some exceptions.
no subject
Pirates aren't exactly known for being subtle.
[A shrug of his shoulders. Given they have large boats and are known to boast about their skills, yeah. Eizen takes pride in every single wanted poster he gets.]
However, if you're going to offer drinks, I'm not going to turn it down. I'll even do what I can to compensate you.
[Good connections require money or even other actions at times-- he knows this from working in the underworld for so long. If this could potentially be a connection even just for good drink, well, yeah he'll do what he can.
He has some morals.]
