« « « HERE WE ARE AGAIN

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals.

Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive.

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

soulsrob: (What will be will be)

Winnifred Prismall | OC | Dominant

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-12 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Here We Are Again. (Post-Orientation)]

[Alright. WELL. That sure was a fucking thing that happened. Winnie can... Sort of understand what's happened but not... Not really. She understands all that they're saying, to a point, but she doesn't quite understand why. Like. Why her? She had things to do, dammit!

She stands to the side, hands folded in front of her. She's wearing a full Victorian-style dress, all prim and proper, and she watches. She watches the people milling about, the new arrivals and old hats alike, and looks perfectly pleasant and nice!

...Except, every once in a while, there's strange... flatness to her eyes. They grow dead and cold, their gaze more like some detached scientist watching the scurrying of insects they're studying. A vague sort of interest, but ultimately one could be crushed and she'd just be like, vaguely disappointed before moving on.

But then the light is back as quickly as it came. maybe you just imagined it?

Either way, Winnie begins to muse aloud, tapping at her chin thoughtfully. When she speaks, she has a clearly British accent
]

You know, I dare say I've never had to deal with a situation quite like this, nor has it really been talked about in any of the stories I've read. I mean, sure, kidnappings that's common! There's a protocol! But this seems a bit beyond just a normal kidnapping.

It seems a little late to start crying. Perhaps I should faint? That would be an appropriate response, no? [She looks down at the floor and then the surrounding area with a long, thoughtful "hmmm" noise, as if seriously considering it before looking up to whoever the poor soul is who's been overhearing her] I don't suppose you see a nice fainting couch around, do you? I don't particularly want to fall on the floor, you see. My dress might get dirty and I quite like this dress.

[Is she serious?? Who knows, but are YOU going to take that risk?]

[Lies Travel in Company]

[Despite being new, despite going through the Orientation and learning about the strange, horrible new world they've been thrust into, Winnie looks like she's dealing with it remarkably well, all things considered. Her smile is bright and cheery, she practically has a bounce in her step as she flits from place to place, pressing her face against the windows to see out at the passing scenery.]

My word, isn't this marvelous? Everything is so-- Futuristic! [She grins and looks around, taking note of the more blatantly obvious displays of Submissive/Dominant behaviors and she laughs in delight] And no shame whatsoever!

My, my, what a strange little place we've been kidnapped to! But it's exciting, isn't it? That's always fun!

[End in the Discord]

[Well, Winnie's always up for balancing the scales. She's someone who very much likes things to be fair--an eye for an eye, you know? But that's not strictly why she's here in this club thing. She just wanted to check it out, though her outfit (an Edwardian-style white dress) doesn't quite scream "clubbing."

Not that she has any idea what "clubbing" is or anything like that, but look. She's here to have a good time and she's having fun, that's what matters right?

And of course she's going to hunt down whoever she gets paired with, both to find out more on how they feel about this Dom/Sub thing and because she's a nosey, curious person by nature. "Curiosity" is about the only emotion she can readily feel, so she rides it out whenever it pops up.

She has her phone out with the message up displaying the person's name and all, and almost immediately she shoves it in your face. Oh hey, that's your name!
]

Excuse me! Is this you? I'm Winnie! Er-- Winnifred, I suppose, is how it might have had my name, but please do call me Winnie! [She beams away, oh-so cheerful]

[Table it for Later]

[Winnie doesn't blush or seem embarrassed at all by the demonstration, just sort of vaguely interested. The act itself is neat, but she's far more interested in the way the two interact once the scene has concluded.

She gives a thoughtful little hum, tapping at her chin
]

That's rather nice, isn't it? They're sweet. Seeing things like this doesn't make the whole contract thing seem so terrible, does it? It doesn't seem that much further off from a marriage contract, really.

[But then she smiles brightly, perking up as if to completely move on from her observation]

Well! Shall we? Are we supposed to be doing the same thing there, or trying something new? I'm afraid I stopped paying attention at some point.

[Wildcard]

[obligatory wildcard if none of these do it for you, I can start something new or you can randomize something, idc. Or hit me up at [plurk.com profile] ovals and we can figure something out!]

So oddly enthralled, aren't you?

[Alucard could probably travel just as fast as the train on foot, but at times it's just simply easier to let the technology do what it was made for. Quietly, he has marveled at it, but the charm is a bit stolen by the circumstances.]

I suppose if one must be kidnapped, then please by all means include a train.
soulsrob: (Storybook endings)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-12 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot to be enthralled about! [She flashes him a quick grin]

There are a lot worse places to be kidnapped to. Heroines are almost always tied up and stuffed into dusty rooms or something; if it's going to be a cage we're trapped in, I would prefer a gilded one.

[She turns to face him and unceremoniously sticks her hand out, her smile cheerful] I'm Winnifred, but please do called me 'Winnie'! And what shall I call my grumpy companion?
reposing: (nothing really matterrrrrs)

[personal profile] reposing 2019-01-14 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose that's fair. You've not yet discovered the cruelties of this city.

[At least he would know what to more or less expect from a damp dungeon, not a city that seems to think it knows how it should work.

Her hand is taken politely.]
Alucard. I hope your stay is a pleasant one, Winnie.
soulsrob: (48)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-14 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Her handshake is firm and she dips into a polite curtsy as well.]

As do I! Though I'm sure that won't last. [She looks amused though rather than put out.] But I'm pleased to meet you, Alucard.

Does this city really get so terrible?
reposing: (reading my icon keywords)

[personal profile] reposing 2019-01-15 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Alucard shrugs in response.] I suppose that depends on who you ask. But it is capable of cruelty, forcing people into situations they would not otherwise be in. Public humiliation, forced aphrodisiac effects, turning a blind eye to questionable situations that are not otherwise in consent.

The Human Zoo is certainly one of the worst places to name. Yet so perfectly legal for their system.
soulsrob: (I asked my sweatheart)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-15 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it like that everywhere, though? [Every place is capable of cruelty, and while this all just sounds a little beyond what she's seen, she isn't terribly surprised or put out by it. Just another notch against humanity in general.

'Human Zoo,' however, definitely gets a reaction out of her and she goes still, blinking a couple times like she's not entirely sure if she heard him correctly.
] A human... zoo?

[I'M SORRY WHAT]

[Cor's not entirely surprised that this place would try and 'educate' people on how they're supposed to act. He can even appreciate the fact that this couple seems to show how it's supposed to be done, in his opinion, regarding their interactions. But oh, Six, does he twitch as some noble-looking lady talks about the contracts thing like marriage contracts. Another reason to be grateful for being common-born.

Still, he gives her a once-over. She's pretty, and shows some signs of intelligence. And more importantly, she's not acting all shy and embarrassed over what they just witnessed. Rather, she seems rather eager to try it out...and there's no lack of self-confidence, either.]

...I think we're supposed to move to one of their spare rooms to practice, if we so choose. You seem rather fascinated with all of this, though. Have you experienced any of this before?
soulsrob: (47)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-13 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Hey, but is she wrong though??

The question seems to catch her off guard and she does blush then, tucking some of her hair behind her ear
] Oh, dear. Is that the sort of impression I give? No, no, no. Nothing of the sort!

[She doesn't seem offended by his inquiry though, and she smiles a bit sheepishly] It's just, well... If we're going to have our hands forced, we might as well try to enjoy it, right? Look on the bright side? People tend to be comforted if there's someone around who isn't losing themselves in some spiral of despair, you know?

[personal profile] immortalmarshal 2019-01-13 04:41 am (UTC)(link)

Still, seeing her blush and acting a little sheepish does encourage him to relax just a little bit. At least she's taking this all in stride; small comforts there.]

'If life gives you lemons, make lemonade', huh? I can see how that might work here. At least you still have some sense about you, too.

[A brief pause. Oh, yes...manners.]

Name's Cor, by the way.
soulsrob: (What will I be?)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-13 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good way of looking at it, yes! [She smiles at him and even claps her hands a little as if in applause for his deduction.]

Oh, but don't let it get around. I find things tend to work out a lot easier if people don't think you have any sense!

[She curtsys at his introduction though and then sticks her hand out to him] Winnifred Prismall, at your service. Oh, but I suppose I shouldn't say it like that in this sort of place, should I? [She laughs] But please, call me 'Winnie'!
immortalmarshal: (you did good kid)

[personal profile] immortalmarshal 2019-01-13 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[That earns her a half-smile, just for a brief moment. Oh, yes, she has some wits about her indeed. That is good...and interesting.]

Winnie's good. I'm not exactly one for much formalities...

[Still, he does take the hand and apply a barely-there, brief kiss to it. At least he remembers his court manners.]

But I can adapt as necessary.
soulsrob: (Here's what she said to me:)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-14 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Her eyes light up in delight as he kisses her hand. Oh good! Someone who actually knows his manners!]

What a charmer you are! You might not have any problems fitting in here then, if you can adapt well enough.

[She eyes the mark on his throat with a look of sympathy.] I wish this could have been different, however. What a strange little place we've all been kidnapped away to.
immortalmarshal: (actually chatting)

[personal profile] immortalmarshal 2019-01-15 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully, if at least some of the other natives here aren't assholes.

[...welp, he can't be perfect all the time. Oh, well...]

I'll agree that this is the most unusual place I've ever known, and I've been to a lot of places in my lifetime.
