TDM #4 ( revised )

« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »

« « « HERE WE ARE AGAIN

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals.

Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive.

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

soulsrob: (Whatever will be will be)

II!

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-12 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Winnie isn't typically one to stay still for long herself. She's been wandering around exploring, but she's not doing anything to really hide that that's exactly what she's doing, poking her head into shops and wandering up and down alleys she probably shouldn't be wandering in alone.

But most people also see the full Victorian gown and think either this is some weird roleplay thing going on, or perhaps she's a little Odd, and people tend to not want to deal with Odd.

Mori's calls obviously get her attention though and she wanders over, hands clasped behind her back
]

Did you lose something?
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Helpless)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-12 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Mori startles a little at the unfamiliar voice next to him, attention shifting to the woman. If he finds her attire odd he gives no indication of it outwardly, although mentally he's noting it with considerable interest. Such formal Westerner clothing like that is certainly out of place here, but he knows that some of the Guild members had dressed in similar styles... Curious.

But his actions do little to show his true thoughts as the man runs a hand through his hair before practically wilting into a posture of exasperated defeat.]

Yes... It seems I lost someone I was supposed to be keeping an eye on.
soulsrob: (Picked him for her own)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-12 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Likewise, Winnie's expression is nothing but the utmost of concern, eyes going wide before her brow furrows and she looks around.]

...I don't suppose you've tried a leash, have you? That seems to be fairly popular here. [Risky joke of the day #1. She flashes him a quick smile and reaches out to unceremoniously pat him on the arm in a comforting gesture]

Who is it you lost? Perhaps if you retrace your steps a little...?
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Have you seen my daughter?)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-12 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
A leash...? [That certainly wasn't the sort of response the man had expected, and for a split second amusement flashes in his red eyes before it's gone again beneath a veneer of confusion and worry. Perhaps the woman notices but perhaps not.]

No, I definitely don't think she'd like that. She hates me telling her where to go... Ah- hold on. [Mori begins rummaging through his coat before producing a small photo to Winnie. It's the picture of a young girl with voluminous blonde hair in a red dress, posing cheekily for the camera.]

Her name is Elise, I'm her guardian.
soulsrob: (when I thought it should be strong)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-12 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh! I'm afraid my joke seems quite off-color now in the face of that.

[Whoops! She doesn't apologize though, reaching out to hold the photo with a thoughtful frown] I'm afraid I haven't seen her, though. She seems quite young, and I don't think I've seen anyone brought in to this place that's bene under the age of maybe 16?

[She's not sure if that makes him feel any better though. She tilts her head curiously] Unless you're a native here and/or she is, in which case I just haven't seen her! She's terribly adorable though.
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Just a dad)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-13 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh... You're right, I had thought it was maybe just a coincidence that I'd missed seeing any children.

[A lie. Mori already knows that this woman wouldn't have seen her, but the worry over a small child is an easy way to lure people in and make them sympathize. Granted some of his distress his genuine, but at the end of the day he is not left completely defenseless without being able to harness Elise's combat abilities. This is simply an inconvenience to remedy later.]

Neither of us are natives, no. [He does brighten considerably at the compliment though, nodding as a smile splits his face.]

Isn't she? I think she'd look precious in a dress like yours, of course it also suits you very well.
soulsrob: (What will I be?)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-13 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
[She laughs brightly, covering her mouth with her hand as she straightens] What a charmer you are!

Well, I'm not a native either--I'm newly arrived, I suppose you could say. I haven't quite adapted to the fashion of this world yet... Though it's quite odd.

[She turns her head to observe some people passing by, dressed up warmly from the cold, the girls wearing pants. She eyes them with amused interest]

Pants! Imagine that. No lady would dare wear pants where I'm from. People were already losing their minds over something as simple as bloomers. [But she looks back at him with an easy smile] I suppose i'm just lucky they caught me here on my way to tea, so I could make a good first visual impression.
optimalsolution: ([disguise] Lost)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-13 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Mori certainly isn't the type to correct a lady *at least not in this facade), only offering a slightly sheepish smile.]

Is that so? I'm rather new myself, I've just been trying to get my bearings of this place while I checked for Elise-chan...

[He follows Winnie's gaze, his curiosity piquing at several points of her statement. Already that's enough to aid him in starting a theory on just why this woman's clothing appears so archaic aside from the off chance that she just enjoys more traditional styles of dress. But it's not exactly something that would be... Logical to simply ask outright, especially when he's still attempting to work out the logistics of this place himself.]

Really? Can I ask where you're from?
soulsrob: (What will I be?)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-13 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, she can understand that. She can't sympathize, because that's not really an emotion she has, but she gets the idea behind it. Kill two birds with one stone sort of deal.

And her smile grows, tone becoming teasing.
] Do you mean 'where' or 'when'? [And then she laughs]

I'm from England, if such a place means anything to you. And it was 1888 last I checked before I arrived here. And this place is fascinating, isn't it? All these different worlds and times converging together... [She trails off and laughs again, delighted.]

It's terribly fun!
optimalsolution: ([disguise] Lost)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-13 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, so she was already aware of the oddities in time. At first Mori had been skeptical about someone truly being able to orchestrate something on such a level between time and worlds, but he has met ability-users with similarly astounding talents that can be used on a large population. He had also doubted that some people would accept such a thing, but it seems that this woman is much quicker on the uptake than he had given her credit for. Impressive.]

Oh, that... Is what I meant, yes. [He chuckles as if embarrassed at being called out.]

It really is amazing. I can imagine some of the technology here must be a bit odd for you?
soulsrob: (Day after day?)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-13 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[She chuckles, pleased with being Right, and gives him a look like 'you have no idea' at his question]

Dreadfully so! Most of it is easy enough to figure out--The trains, for example. I don't need to know the ins and outs of that to know how to use it. But those, oh.. What are they...?

[She pats at her dress and then pulls out the phone they've been given, giving it a little wave] This thing? This phone? I've managed to figure out pulling the map up on it so I don't get too terribly lost, but everything else? I can hardly figure it out! [She pouts a little at that, clearly put out by it]

But it's so fascinating! So much information and power all in one little device!
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Just a dad)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mori steps a little closer as she pulls out her phone, scratching the back of his neck as he chuckles.]

If you wanted I could try to give you a few pointers. We have things pretty equivalent to this where I'm from so they haven't been too difficult for me to maneuver so far... It's really amazing how much technology can do, isn't it?

[There's a pause before he looks embarrassed.] Oh- I'm sorry, I'm rambling and I haven't even introduced myself. My name is Mori Ougai.
soulsrob: (que sera sera.)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-14 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, could you? [She looks to him like he's her savior come rushing in on a white horse to save her.

His introduction is met with a smile and she curtsys before extending her hand to him
] Winnifred Prismall, at your service! Oh, I suppose I shouldn't say it like that in a place like this though, should I? [She looks amused though, eyes twinkling with a mischievous mirth]

But please, call me 'Winnie'! It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Ougai.
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Fight!)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-14 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Mori is familiar enough with literature and culture originating from the time period Winnie is from to have a general idea of what is expected as she extended her hand, so he takes it gently to place a light kiss on the top before releasing it with a smile.]

Ah, you're probably right that people might get the wrong idea. Or at least just hear what they want to hear.

[He chuckles.]

And you can just call me 'Mori'. Now did you have any specific questions about your phone?
soulsrob: (55)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-15 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[She looks a little impressed despite herself] And such good manners! You wouldn't believe the number of people who didn't know to kiss my hand.

[She holds her phone out to him so they can look at it together.] I did have one specific question... [SHe looks at him, all wide-eyed innocence] What is a 'selfie'?
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Fight!)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-15 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Despite the persona he currently wears Mori is actually considerably well-read, although typically his books of choice are more centered around strategy and tactical philosophy than historical etiquette. But he likes to think of himself as a man with a breadth of knowledge, especially when his job requires him to interact with a wide range of people.] Really? That's a shame.

[He chuckles, his smile just a tinge knowing. Then that question makes him blink once. Then twice. And then he has to fight very hard to not laugh and grin like an idiot because that is just too precious. The doctor manages to keep a grip on himself though.]

Oh! Well... A selfie is basically just a picture you take of yourself. Sometimes they can get pretty elaborate, but I'm a little old to understand all the nuances...
soulsrob: (What will be will be)

[personal profile] soulsrob 2019-01-15 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I see! And these things can take instant portraits... Well, it surely beats sitting around for hours waiting for the painter to get a move on already because your nose itches something terrible, but you can't move or he'll yell at you. [She babbles on, turning the phone around curiously and then beams at him]

And you can contact anyone pretty much anywhere? I know there are contacts in here, somewhere... [All innocent curiosity she taps at the phone until a list of contacts pops up. Not that she knows who most of the people are, but there they are on her phone anyhow. Hm.] Can you find them through this then? I know the map will show you where you are, but can it show you were others are?

[It can't, probably, but she's careful to keep her tone innocently curious. There's absolutely no reason she wants to know about this beyond a natural progression on the line of questions! No ulterior motives here, nope]
optimalsolution: ([Disguise] Helpless)

[personal profile] optimalsolution 2019-01-15 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, they can certainly be convenient. [Again he chuckles, allowing her to ramble and get all her inquiries out. His attention is piqued though at all of her clearly leading questions, because Mori is not blind to someone trying to extract information and the fact that Winnie is trying to get things out of him... Well, it's frankly a little adorable.

But fine, he'll play along. Perhaps there's more to this out of place lady than meets the eye, and it would certainly be beneficial to know as much as possible if so.]

Ah- I don't think you can but I've never really tried. Is there someone you've lost track of, too? [And his question seems innocent enough as well. He isn't going to inform Winnie about the options for tracking devices and other GPS software though, even if based on the level of technology in this place he's almost certain that they could be obtained.]
