It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity.

After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation.

If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms.

Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals.

Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive.

[Anduin held the device in both hands, looking down at it with a degree of curiosity, before he glanced up at the person in question. His heavy plate armor was probably not exactly the most casual wear, all things considered given the atmosphere, but he hoped it wouldn't leave too poor of an impression. It probably indicated his newer arrival, if anything.]

Ah. Yes. I am Anduin Wrynn...But since this worked I suppose you knew that already.

['Autonomy' seemed such a strange place to begin with, when this was an every day theme. How could he possibly get used to the idea that he was of a separate 'caste' simply due to...circumstance? The thought made him tired, but still he tried to focus as he looked at Armand appraisingly, quietly hoping he wasn't making a mistake by opening himself up like this at this...tavern.]

[The armor is at least an interesting talking piece. It doesn't leave a poor taste at all. If anything it reminds Armand of older times, times that he usually would like to forget, but here it just seems amusing.

Armand offers him a boyish smile.]

Are you comfortable in all of that? [He motions to the armor.]

[All things considered, he had to take a moment to compose himself, given that he hadn't exactly known who would be joining him. It did sort of make him feel better when he noted how young in the face Armand looked.

He offered a somewhat weary smile in kind.]

Ah, it can be quite heavy when worn over long times, but I am mostly used to it. Incidentally I seem to have brought my horse, as well. He's outside.

[Anduin carefully peeled the silver-and-gold gauntlets from his hands, rising to meet the other man in order not to be rude.]

You have a horse? [Armand is surprised but then he's laughing. He hasn't seen someone with a horse for travel in almost a century. Of course people still had horses but not in this way. It makes Armand feel slightly nostalgic.]

You're like a knight in shining armor. How lucky am I? Though I'm very sorry if you were hoping for a pretty princess.

Incidentally that's not...the first time I've heard that. But, I am a King, and normally well...If I hadn't been caught in the middle of a battle, I wouldn't be wearing something like this.

[Anduin offered a very soft laugh, as he tucked away his blond bangs, behind his ear. He looked Armand over gently, wondering just how young the man truly was. He couldn't discern it from looks alone, however.]

I wasn't...expecting anyone, in truth. But I am glad to have your company, nonetheless.

A king? [That was the last thing he was expecting. But that makes this more interesting at least.] I'm sorry you were taken at such an annoying time. You must be very antsy right now. I hope you were winning, at least, and I'm glad I can attempt to get your mind off of things.

Can I ask where you rule? [His name doesn't sound familiar as any kings he has heard of but then again, he had never studied up on this kind of history before.]

I am King of Stormwind, yes...Even if such status for a Submissive does not appear to rightly matter.

[He'd been trying to do his homework, at least as well as one could do, given the circumstances.]

You are too kind to say so...But I thank you, Armand. I...do hope that they'll prevail without me, for the time being. At least until I can find a way to return to them.

[Genn must be worried sick, certainly. And then...He could only imagine what Tyrande would do in his absence. He sighed a little.]

Stormwind is perhaps the largest human kingdom on Azeroth...That is where I am from. Where do you live, if you do not mind my asking?

[Armand was used to people being from other places by now. This doesn't surprise him too much but he is curious about what else could be in this world if there was more than just humans. But that he doesn't want to play too early.]

Unfortunately, not anywhere you would know of. I was last living in a country called the USA but I have lived in many countries. I'm something of a traveler. [He requests a drink for Anduinn.] If you don't mind me doing so. I think with all you have on your plate, a drink might do you well.

USA...That is a rather interesting name for a country. Is it short for something?

[He thumbed his chin in consideration, looking thoughtful as he tilted his head. Of course, he was glad for the somewhat change in atmosphere. Even if it was somewhat noisier than he might have preferred, it wasn't unlike the taverns he'd been to before with his father or even in Pandaria.]

Ah, not at all...I trust your judgment would be better than mine, given I neglected to look over the menu. It's very thoughtful of you, thank you.

[He said a little sheepishly, offering what he hoped was an apologetic smile.]

Have you been here long, Armand? In this place...?

The United States of America. It really isn't much to talk about at all. [Mostly he isn't even sure he wants to live there anymore. He had thought about moving to somewhere else once again.

Considering Armand has not eaten or drank anything in centuries he is definitely not the best judge for this but he can still remember things humans have ordered and order that. So a rum and coke it is.] I haven't been here long at all. [He gives Anduin a shrug, smiling.]

I thought a place like this would help me to understand how people feel better and it's been fun.

I see. That is..Interesting.

[He gave thought to it for a moment, wondering about this collective "union" of provinces or states, as the other had said. Certainly that was similar in its own right as the Alliance, even if it wasn't land but people that held allegiances with each other.

He inhaled and sighed a little, noting that the drink that was ordered fizzled. He picked up the glass, and then realized...Armand hadn't one himself.]

Not interested in having a drink yourself?

[He asked, politely before he took a mindful sip, noting the sweet, almost vanilla-like flavor.]

Does it help you understand them, then?

I've drank enough tonight. [Which isn't a lie, considering he had been taking small drinks from a lot of different people tonight. Enough not to hurt them or have them realize they had even been bitten.]

I've found that many submissives do not like the role that's been forced upon them. Understandably. But even the standards that dominants are held up to is becoming very tiring. It's a relief, actually. I worried that it was something that these people had begun to believe. As if it was a form of brain washing. [And that's a power Armand himself has and if they had been strong enough to capture him, then could they also brainwash him?]

It's been...enlightening.

[He seemed to accept that answer, given he had no ready suspicions at all about Armand's nature, given there were no visible signs of it. In his own world, San'layn, or vampyr, were different.]

I can't say I like the idea of it...Being named a Submissive and told I am limited...in my actions and words isn't exactly what anyone wants to hear, I imagine.

[Anduin looked off to one side, rubbing the back of his neck.]

I...I can't say I know enough to merit a good enough reply, but how many of us are being placed into these roles? If there's enough of us, isn't there anything we might do if we could form allegiances?

Understandable. I think I would be worried about your health if you told me you didn't want to be allowed some particular freedoms.

[Armand decides to lean up against a wall and looks off to the side.] I can't give you an exact number and I'm still trying to learn more. But I do think we have more than a hundred and with such a large number, it would definitely seem possible but in consideration of how powerful our captors are...

[He sighs irritably.] It's frustrating, isn't it?

I would be worried about my sanity, not just my health, if that were the case.

[Anduin mused, sipping more at his drink, given he didn't want to waste it.]

...I suppose I'd have to evaluate just how powerful they are before I could give a proper answer concerning this myself, but...It is. What do we...do in the meanwhile, is the question.

[His gaze moved to regard Armand carefully.]

[Armand stares out into the crowd and he doesn't move. It's moments like this where he gets lost in thought he almost forgets that he needs to move, look human, and he does remember to, blinking.

Looking back to Anduin, he gives him a frown.]

Tragically enough, I think we need to play along for the moment until we can fight back. [He laughs, just a little bitter and tucks his curls behind his ear.] A king as yourself must not like having to play subservient to someone else.

[Anduin inhaled softly, leaving the now empty glass on the coaster he'd placed it on. That was the very thing that he'd been afraid of, in truth: 'Playing along'.]

As a king, I see myself...in some ways as a servant of the people. I ensure their safety, and they look to me for direction, because of it. I've never thought of myself 'above' anyone else, but...at the same time I do not want to subject anyone to...what I've heard. Let alone myself, in truth.

[Of what being a Submissive certainly meant. It's not like he was meek or the kind of person to just roll over, but...He'd do what he needed to do. Surely, that's what they were all doing here. Still..]

If I must...I'll adapt, surely. I simply do not like injustice.

As you shouldn't. The world is unfair and sometimes it just piles so much on you that you can barely stand it...[Armand speaks from experience.]

But like you said, as a king you are the servant to your people, correct? Then to get back to your people who need you then you will do what you need to here.

[Armand offers him a smile and offers a kind hand on Anduin's.]

You're not alone, at least. Nobody is happy with this. There's comfort in that.
