TDM #4 ( revised )
« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »
It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

2B! You're here!
[Although, what was with her voice just then...? That didn't sound much like a laugh, and it immediately sets concern gnawing at the edges of 6O's thought processes. Did something happen before she got here? If somebody hurt her, 6O will— Er, not really be able to do much about it, actually. But at least she can be here for her!
Which is to say, she should brace herself because her Operator is incoming. 6O runs towards her, arms extended; she knows this would get her such a scolding back at the Bunker (and maybe it still will) but it's totally worth it to try.]
no subject
If this is some trick, some new way the city has found to test her, it's cruel beyond measure. Behind her visor she closes her eyes tightly and expects that when she opens them the water will be undisturbed, the fish will be swimming along, and nothing will have changed. She readies herself for the pain of that reality but instead she's hit full force by an armful of Operator, solid and real and perfect. The constant support, the feeling of never being alone, it all comes rushing back to 2B in an instant and she doesn't hesitate to wrap her arms around the other android.
No scolding, only a hand resting gently against the back of 6O's head as she holds her close and forces her voice to come out evenly.]
I'm here. It seems like you're unharmed.
no subject
6O's too preoccupied to notice the little tells that would taint it with worry—the thin-lipped look, the clenched fists; she just sees 2B, and a piece of her world fits comfortably back into its rightful place. She squeezes tightly, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes as she leans into her charge.]
Yeah. I'm fine.
[Where "fine" can encompass "sounds a lot like she's about to break down crying, actually." It's okay, those are joy-and-relief tears. She just feels things a lot, okay...]
And you? You're not hurt or anything?
no subject
She can't help it. 6O has been by her side through so much, has shared so much of her burden of her designation without making it cloying, and having her here now when 2B thought she was lost forever means there's no way she's going to say no to a hug. When she squeezes tight 2B does the same, arms a protective circle around her, and when she sounds so upset it eases some of the pain 2B feels herself.
It's odd, she thinks absently, to have a proxy for releasing your feelings, but hasn't 6O always been like that for her? Cheerful and happy where 2B was stoic and harsh, a perfect balance for her.]
I'm fine. This place can be difficult at times but it's nothing I can't handle.
[A typical answer, but her emotions are betrayed by the way she still hasn't let go yet. By that, and-]
I'll look after you now that you're here.
[Despite the solid black line down her neck marking her as a Submissive.]

[Even if there's only so much she can do without the Bunker's data feeds. Even if those weren't always enough. It's 6O's designation, and more importantly, it's the least she can do for someone she cares about.
With obvious reluctance, 6O breaks the hug and pulls back. Not completely: she grasps for 2B's hand as she goes, wanting to keep some kind of grounding contact. Just enough that she can look at her properly.]
Hey, look.
[With her free hand, 6O brushes aside her veil, revealing the dark mark on her own neck. Of course they match.]
no subject
She's torn with how to feel about that, honestly. In the first month of her arrival it had felt right that androids should be labeled as Submissives and she had found herself silently judging the androids she met who weren't, had berated 9S for contracting with A2 when he should have allowed a human to have ownership of him, but her time here has changed that perception. She can safely say now that it depends on the individual, that she may be content in her role but she understands how others wouldn't be.
6O doesn't seem to mind, though.]
You've been to orientation by now, so you must know what's expected.
[But there's an inflection there, a certain tone and a gentle squeeze of her hand that makes it clear, in 2B's way, that she's asking if 6O does understand, if she has questions, a kind of tone that suggests anything she asks now is permitted and will be answered.]
no subject
The submissive thing, I think I can handle? I mean, they're humans so I don't really mind as long as they're not rude about it. But I gotta admit, 2B...
[She rubs the back of her head, looking a little sheepish. The barest ghost of red tints her cheeks, embarrassment surging up even though she knows 2B's here to listen and not judge.]
I'm not sure how they expect me to follow all the orders. You know. The "steady sexual activity" part.
[two beeeeeeee how is she supposed to do the bang with no bang parts installed D:]
no subject
Her hand can't linger as the other android goes on, though, and she puts her hand on her shoulder instead to try to help her center herself.]
I had upgrades installed on arrival to help with that.
[And she doesn't regret it, not for a second, not when it's allowed her to connect with the humans she loves so much on such a deeper level than she ever thought she might. She hadn't really believed she would ever meet a human at all, not when she was a unit built to fight and kill, not be useful like an Operator or a Scanner unit might be to a human living a peaceful life.
Her upgrades, this place, they're something she holds a certain amount of gratitude for, but she knows that isn't always the case.]
Whatever you choose to do I'll support you.
no subject
Did... did it hurt?
[That's probably a silly question and she knows it, since androids get upgrades and change parts out all the time. Some even opt for the type of modifications 2B's talking about, sometimes, although 6O's only ever heard gossip about it around the Bunker. (If the Commander knew what her troops have speculated about her...) It shouldn't be worse than any other maintenance. But she's not a combat unit; she hasn't needed any such major alterations. She doesn't have the frame of reference here that others do.
In other words, the prospect is kind of intimidating.]
no subject
6O doesn't fight, probably hasn't experienced death or pain in the way 2B has herself. Of course she's afraid, worried about it, and so 2B is quick to shake her head once she understands.
She may be a little more aware of how cute 6O looks when she blushes now than she ever has before, but it may be best to ignore that until she feels a little more settled in. Safe, like 2B has promised to keep her.]
It didn't hurt. The process itself was over quickly and the first partner I had was very kind. They were even able to reduce my mass to allow for humans to lift me up.
[She says that point blank, but honestly it's been one of the best parts about the changes made to her body. That feeling of intimacy that comes with trusting someone, allowing them to put her where they want her, show her how to move for them, it's become something she's a little addicted to. She loves the humans she knows because she's programmed to love all humans, but sharing her body with them, deepening those bonds, it's been something she would never trade or give up.
And once she's come to that conclusion it seems like something she should probably mention.]
If I were to have the option to have the upgrades reversed I wouldn't take it.
no subject
[The people here have figured out upgrades 6O wouldn't have thought were possible. It has her brimming with questions; does she know what materials were used? Assuming the same overall shape and structure, the new parts would have to be less dense, but does that affect their strength and reliability? Does she feel different just moving around? This could be valuable data for back home!
More importantly, 6O worries about her assigned charge a lot more than her cheery personality lets on, and if something had happened to her because of this she'd feel terrible. Thank goodness it sounds like it worked out.
But she is curious about one more thing-]
Can I try?
[6O no]
no subject
That question makes 2B pause, though, and she can't help the light feeling that spreads through her chest in the face of how cute her Operator can be. There's even a hint of a smile at the corners of her lips, a shadow of amusement coloring her tone when she answers.
She's missed 6O more than she realized. At this point, she'd give her anything she asked for.]
You can try.
no subject
Details: Managed to make 2B smile.]
[The craziness of the days since getting here, her new orders, the things she should probably tell 2B about and the ones that she's trying not to think or talk about at all, none of that's as important right now as getting to see more of 2B's smile. Each glimpse of it is special to 6O, a rare treasure to be held close and feel the warmth it radiates through her. Maybe here... away from the war... she can hope to see it more often.
6O, of course, is smiling so brightly it's a wonder she isn't glowing. She positions herself carefully, setting her hands on either side of 2B's waist.]
Okay, here we go-!
[With a quiet grunt, she lifts her off the ground. On a whim, she hoists 2B up further and into a quick twirl, loosing a high-pitched squeal of delight that turns into alarm oh no no no crap she's losing her balance—]
no subject
She does manage it, lifting 2B far enough off the ground that for those few perfect moments it's just 2B in 6O's grasp, holding her shoulders gently, a sweetly innocent picture of the two of the them twirling.
2B is even smiling again, very small but hard to miss when she can't look away from her Operator looking so happy, and that accounts for why she misses out on the fact that her sensors warn her as they start to overbalance to the left. By the time she tries to correct them it's far too late and they're toppling down, 2B just managing to get her hand around to the back of 6O's head to keep it from knocking against the ground and hurting her.
