« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

Matt Murdock // MCU // Dominant

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
[i. LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY]

[ Stranger things have happened. Right? Matt does his best not to worry about it, not now, not when there's so much to process. It's a new place. New places mean new sounds, new voices, new places to learn. Matt knows how to filter the dissonance of Manhattan. This is jarring.

So he's going to worry about it later. He lets himself be shown onto a train - as if a sightseeing tour is going to do any good for him - and sits, holding his cane in both hands between his knees. He listens to the vague descriptions of each place and listens to what others are saying, his head tilted to a vague angle. When it becomes too much, Matt lets the rumble of the train soothe him like a white noise.

Though he does turn to the passenger next to him to ask:
] How does it all look? Impressive?

[ii. END IN THE DISCORD]

[ Nightclubs aren't Matt's thing. He's lucky to have found it, though. Autonomy offers the opportunity to meet people he might not otherwise come across, and, well. Admittedly he's nosy and this is as good a way as any to learn what people really think without repercussions. Chalk it up to the lawyer in him.

And also to the base curiosity that's just part of human nature.

He drops his name in the lottery and finds his way to the bar. Everyone seems a bit too helpful in that regard, hands falling on him easily to guide his way. He laughs a bit and mutters his thank yous until he's sat on a stool. There's a drink in his hand soon enough and his device sitting next to him. Just in case it chimes with a match.
]

[iii. WILDCARD]

Write your own starter/prompt! I'm also open to the Table It For Later option, so feel free to go that route. Matt would need some Hands On experience for that one.

[ Wade was chattering away when Matt spoke up next to him, and the question brought him pause, turning brown eyes over to scan over the man. No Submissive tattoo marked his skin, but Wade was smart enough to put everything together pretty quickly. ] Like Disneyland, if it were on cocaine and into human trafficking. So more like Orlando Florida, actually.

[ It makes him mad, on this guy's behalf that they'd kidnap a blind guy. ] You're not missing much. [ At least he is headed to the Up. Wade has his doubts that the Down would be as welcoming to disability. ] Unless any of that really appeals to you.

[ He doubts it does. ]
trustinthedevil: (145)

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ He laughs a bit. None of that means anything to him. Matt thinks he saw pictures of Disneyland once, and he's heard stories of Florida - mostly Foggy being incredulous when other infamous Florida Man story popped up. ]

On a scale from one-to-Manhattan, where does Orlando fall?

[ He's mostly just making conversation. Matt's getting a pretty decent picture from the way people are talking. ]

You know what, don't answer that.
4thwaller: (And as the skies turn gloomy)

[personal profile] 4thwaller 2018-09-24 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
[ Wade grins, glad to be able to ease at least someone's anxiety. His own was on high and trying to shove him into a full blown panic attack. ]

New York? We're neighbours. Or we were. [ Not that he sounds like he's from New York, or really anywhere with his neutral accent. Maybe the same people that snagged him snagged this guy. ] Now I live in a dumpster apparently. [ He's lightly salted, like roast peanuts about this whole Submissive thing. Not that he'd even know what to do with himself in a place like the Up. ]

Wade. [ He doesn't hold out a hand, doubtful he'd even notice it. Instead he scans his gaze over everyone else in the train with them. They looked just as alarmed as he felt on the inside. ]
trustinthedevil: (Default)

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
We've all ended up in a dumpster at least once in our lives.

[ Is he joking? Given the fact that he's dressed well and seems to be headed Up, it's very likely that he's joking. Better to just let people continue to think that way. ]

Matt. It's nice to meet you, Wade.

[ There's no mistaking the sincerity in Matt's voice this time. Being a people person isn't necessarily what he'd call a strong suit, but here, as far as he knows, he has no one. He may as well start off on the right foot. ]
4thwaller: (Just hopin' you may be)

[personal profile] 4thwaller 2018-09-24 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of us were born there.

[ One upping the 'is he joking or is he being serious' game. Wade leans back in his seat a bit, not exactly comfortable but not horribly uncomfortable either. ]

You'd think they would have thought this through a little more to be disability friendly. Really, you should file a complaint.

[ He imagines Matt is having a blast. It's probably shit like that that's going to get the shit kicked out of Wade for misbehaving, but he has a feeling Matt's not the type to get up in arms about such comments. ]
trustinthedevil: (Default)

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm used to it.

[ It's not like New York is very disability friendly, either. And it's not like Matt is entirely impaired, either. ]

I'll go around on my own after the train ride. I prefer that.

[After a brief introduction to the Dom/Sub culture of this planet, the appeal of the nightclub for Poe lay in networking and finding people to interact with who wanted his company by choice, and not because random chance and luck had done them a disservice and allowed them to be caste as a lesser citizen obligated to rely on and defer to the dominants in the Up for support and a chance at a better life.

He just wanted to interact with people somewhere they wouldn't be scrutinized or frowned at for Poe's far more equal and relaxed treatment of them.

Their devices chime simultaneously as Poe approaches. It's a relief to find the man whose name he had been assigned for the lottery is another dominant. Now at least he doesn't have to worry the man will feel compelled to listen to him.]

[ While he's been sitting, Matt's found a moment to start thinking of his own predicament. It's not entirely unlike home. Ish. There, he'd been a lawyer with the means - or at least the will - to help people who couldn't help themselves.

It was sort of the same thing. Right?

No matter. His device goes off and Matt doesn't even have to do anything for his match to find him. He smiles at nothing in particular, deciding that his match has, at the very least, a nice voice.
]

Whiskey.

[Bo is probably one of the least concerned people on this train besides the man sitting next to her. Strange is kind of her every day, so this is just another Tuesday for her.

The whole Dominant/Submissive thing it super intriguing for her, or it will be until she finds out the latter's living conditions. But for now they're approaching the Up, and she's staring in amazement when Matt's voice breaks her out of it.]

A heck of a lot more posh than a lot of places I've lived.

[It's admitting to it's impressiveness without sound too overzealous about it. It's not really her taste, if she's being honest, but saying it didn't look awesome be a lie.]
trustinthedevil: (027)

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's promising.

[ Matt offers her a smile. It's an inconvenience, having to wait to be off the train before he can "see" anything, but Posh isn't a bad start. ]

I'm Matt. I'm guessing you're ... New here, too?
succubestie: (pic#6922801)

[personal profile] succubestie 2018-09-24 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Like a shiny penny.

[Bo couldn't say that she wasn't at least a little suspicious of everyone else on this train in regards to their current predicament. They were all suspects, really, but demanding answers from a whole giant group of confused people wouldn't get her what she wanted right now.

The undercover route was the better way to go right now.]

I'm Bo. It's nice to meet you, Matt.

[ If he picks up on her wariness, he brushes it off. There's nothing suspicious in being uncertain in any new situation, especially one as particular as this. Matt doesn't even stop to think that he might be coming off as flippant or unaffected by it all. ]

Likewise. Are you enjoying the train ride?
succubestie: (pic#6922778)

[personal profile] succubestie 2018-09-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Not really.

[There's a resigned quality to her voice.]

The longer I'm on this train, the more irritated I get at whoever's behind this.

[Right now, she's pretty sure she knows exactly who was behind this. This was the Wanderer's fault. What else could it possibly be?]

You?

[Guess who is almost convinced this is all a fever dream or hangover dream-- or just not actually reality? The dark haired girl currently sporting a pair of sunglasses with her legs kicked up on the seat in front of them. The events in her life as of late have sparked a pretty hardcore binge, and while her head is pounding, the last person she expects on this train.

Barely functioning, this actually gets her to sit straight up.]

Did you expect to run into anyone here? [Because this is not something she's expecting. Not this place, and certainly not him. Part of her wants to ask how in the actual fuck he's gotten here, but that actually means she has to wrap her head around this place, and right now she's really just on her way to find where she can get a bottle of whatever can potentially get her fucked up.]

( perhaps it's the shift in the crowd of bodies behind her, but it's something palpable, him nearing her. the only thing she's familiar with in this godforsaken place, somewhere that might even rival the haunting alleys of hells kitchen. it isn't immediately that her sights fall on him, rather, she's downing her third double that evening and willing herself just about anywhere but in that barstool, without this omen of a line inked down her throat.

but when she does, it's because she hears him. the quiet, polite murmuring of matthew, a different man than the rasp of the daredevil she'd also come to know. it feels as if something's caught in her throat, swelled down to bloom and take over her chest in a mix of relief and self-disdain. there's no part of her that would truly wish any of them here; him, foggy, frank. not even if it meant suffering it alone... but his voice. his voice is enough to dispel every bit of breath from her lungs in an exhale, eyes nearly glazing over with a few rapid blinks of her lashes.

a shift, slipping from where she'd been seated, only now feeling the heavy hand of the whiskey she's fortunate enough to get for herself in autonomy. when she's near his side she can't help but to reach out, steady a single palm at the outer of his arm and duck down with furrowed brows to take him in, as if he could see her. she knows him well enough to know he doesn't need to to feel her looking. )

Matt? ( a timid sound, a hint from breaking. )

[personal profile] trustinthedevil 2018-09-24 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Matt knows her in an instant. She filters herself out of the crowd for him, everything from her touch to her voice to the way she smells (laced as it is with booze) immediately recognizable. It's almost the most jarring thing that's happened to him since he got here. He lets himself be steered into her despite the anxiety that's growing in his stomach. Anxiety and guilt. Karen inspires so much guilt inside of him.

For all of that, though, a hint of relief peeks through. He's not alone. He doesn't have to choose to be alone, and if Matt Murdock believed in fate, this would be compelling evidence.
]

Karen.

[ Not a question. No hello, none of his usual everything is fine and we're fine off-hand comments. Just a simple confirmation. And then, because the guilt simmers again: ]

Are you all right?

[ About being here, he means. The question is loaded with so many layers that asking beyond this would end in disaster, he's sure. ]

( there's a part of her that wants nothing more than to shatter this illusory facade she's carried since the moment she'd arrived, a part of her that knows he'd only allow his arms to embrace her willingly. he wouldn't push, wouldn't talk if it wasn't what she wanted; there didn't need to be any questions, no, because he knew. he didn't have to catch the bloodshot hues that rim her iris', because he'll hear it in the way her breath stammers alongside her heart. that silent way she presses back tears that causes a hitch just at the back of her tongue.

for some time it'd been unnerving, feeling as if she could never hide anything from him. right now it's nothing short of a blessing, could be. but she doesn't let herself curl into him, and she doesn't cry, doesn't break. instead, there's a sharp cut of a tone in her head that urges to mutter out a what the hell do you think? at the question that finds itself upon his lips. )

Is anyone? ( a glance around them, edge of her nail worried down to the skin. an inhale in attempts to steady herself, stilling the quiver of her fingers by curling them to her fists til there's a bite at the heart of her palms. )

How did you get here? ( because if he knows, maybe that's how she'd gotten here, too. )

[ The answer isn't unexpected. Karen is resilient, though. Matt's admired her strength since they met, and he should have respected it more. She doesn't need to be protected, not in the way Matt's always thought she should be.

Regardless of the fact that he can acknowledge that, old habits die hard.

Matt knows they're at a strange place as far as their friendship goes. He's not sure if anything he does will be appreciated or even wanted, and he's not sure what right he has to do anything. She approached him, though, and he can tell that she's unsettled. His hand reaches out to rest on her arm. An easy touch, and easy to escape if she wants to.
]

I don't, no. [ He sounds genuinely sorry, at least. ] I'm still a little ... It's hard, getting used to new places. Over stimulating.

[ Matt doesn't expect Karen to understand. He doesn't expect her to be sympathetic or feel sorry for him, either. Consider it a feeble attempt at trying to be more open with one another. ]

( as horrible as it sounds, there are times in which karen has to remind herself that matt is, in fact, blind. and to most others within that club he may appear as just that, because they don't know him as the tenacious lawyer from hells kitchen, a frequent goer of josies—if he even went there anymore. the only thing that had been neat about them was how they began; things kept hidden lingered tangibly between them and others were made starkly clear, either way it had been better for them to separate.

they needed to. she needed them to. he preferred it. it was a conversation that needed to be had, some sort of attempts to balm all of this over, but this wasn't the place. not when she's tossed back god knows how many of those glasses and had every intention of curling up within that small space that'd been deemed hers and sleeping til she couldn't anymore.

a single hand combs through golden strands, pushing them off to one side. )
Right, no. ( a beat. ) I know.

( the words are breathy, only a hint of a tone supporting them. ) I was just ... I'm still trying to understand. ( hair tussles as she shakes her head, a steady buzz settling at the top of her skull. two unfinished, jagged pieces. )

None of it makes sense.

[ Henley glances over at the man to her right, noting that he’s a dominant just like her. She’s never been one to judge a book by its cover and she certainly won’t judge anyone by their class. Such evaluations are hardly ever accurate.

Henley sighs. How exactly does one describe this place? It’s like a BDSM 1984. Like Orwell walked into a leather bar. ]

It looks like a Marxist’s worst nightmare, caste-wise, but it’s cleaner than the subway.

[ She gives a shrug of her shoulders. This kind of social stratification would have made her college sociology professor audibly gag had he been there next to Henley. She wasn’t too fond of the division of classes, either, but it didn’t seem like anyone was being mistreated terribly and most of it seemed consensual. For the moment, she was undecided on how she felt about the place. ]
