It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant. Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

Rogue wasn't sure exactly how people felt about their assigned designations, but, for her, it was exhausting. Leadership was something she'd learned over the years, but not to this extent. And there was something that bothered her about being set up is a gorgeous apartment with everything she could ever ask for while other people, simply based on which door they chose, got assigned to less glamorous living conditions.

Frankly, she would have been more comfortable if someone else was giving her a little more direction instead of having to figure things out for herself constantly.

That was what brought her to Autonomy. That and curiosity. She wanted to see how people interacted outside of the roles they'd been given. Things were so structured outside. She just wanted a chance to relax, stop worrying about be responsible, have a few drinks, and not worry about anyone else for a little while.

Of course, the idea of forming new connections appealed to her (greatly), if only because it gave her a chance to get to know how other people felt about this. Assuming that they would talk now that they were in a completely "free" space.

So when a name and some information popped up on her phone, linking her with the person she'd been assigned, she immediately texted that person.

Crowley didn't mind the role he had been given. There was a certain edge of laziness to the demon that meant he didn't always feel like filling the role he had been deposited into, but that was par for the course of his life.

He didn't seek out Autonomy so much as happen across the details that would grant him access. He had sidled into the nightclub as if he had been frequenting the place for decades and slipped his number into the lottery without hesitation. He wasn't concerned about the part he played directly, but rather the allure of his own most frequently visited sin.

Uncertainty. His persistent habit of questioning and pushing at authority while keeping up appearances had not been left behind in grand old England. It had clung to him like a skin he couldn't shed, and left him with that same familiar itch of discomfort. Why. A question he poked and prodded at so often that he could still hear the angel's long suffering sigh as his mind jumped into yet another spiral of questions.

His phone chimed and the demon slipped it free from his deep black pockets before sauntering over to the bar, a pair of dark sunglasses obscuring his eyes. He took a glass that was presumably meant for someone else and smiled, sliding into the chair beside her.

"Hello, Rogue."

[it's not that he's here to challenge his role. if anything, it suits him well - too well. but Akande has never enjoyed simply being given something, and as he goes to Autonomy, he's quite interested in those who would also balk at the lot they've been given.

Or just at the world, in general.

He lounges on one of the couches, observing the crowd as he sips at his drink. Shirtless, his prosthetic fully in view - as well as his lack of Submissive mark - he may or may not make eye contact with those who catch his interest- those who seem unsure of their place, or that seem to be enjoying it too much. The Dominant may or may not offer a thin, almost inviting smile to those ones, tilting his head in invitation as opposed to demand.

Not that others can't take it that way.

Akande enters the lottery purely on whim. He arches his brow at the details that pop up on screen, then looks around, his height giving him somewhat of an advantage when it comes to spotting others- or being spotted, in turn.]

( af is definitely in the spectrum of enjoying autonomy too much. it reminds him of home when he would go out barhopping to pick up random one-night stands, but as it is, he thinks he should be a little more careful in a place like this. even if this club says it doesn't matter if they're dominant or submissive – he's also lacking a mark and maybe just a bit saddened by the fact he hadn't been slotted into that role – it doesn't mean he wants to jump on anything that moves. still, he increases his chances of finding anyone willing to give him something by joining the lottery, and he's literally up on his toes when he gets matched.

it's easy to spot whoever it is, and luckily, he's not shy about approaching first. af picks up another drink before going though, trying to segue into a conversation without looking desperate. that he denotes this person is a dominant too shouldn't mean anything—not in here. so, he grins. )

Many, many things bothered Nah about this place, but her assigned role wasn't really one of them. She was perfectly fine making the decisions and guiding others along, which was mostly how she was choosing to interpret the role. The fact that she'd just been assigned a role without her input... well, that bugged her quite a bit more. But there were other things. The technology of the world, for example.

This train thing was fascinating, but she had no idea how it worked, and that really did bother her. Seated in the back, she was studying pretty much everything around her with fervent earnestness. The seat, the walls of the train, the people getting on... and whoever wound up seated across from her. Her narrowed eyes spared nothing as she took it all in, and though she tried to maintain an impassive expression, she kept scowling without realizing it.

Hopefully no one would take that the wrong way.

End In The Discord

Honestly, Nah wasn't entirely certain why she was here. The whole thing this society was built on, this whole dominance and submission thing, it was something she'd like to evade, but this just seemed like a way to spice it up, not completely escape it.

Still... she has to meet people. Get connections. Maybe they'll end up wanting to be her submissives, since she's obliged to find at least one. She enters her name, and sits down at the place where she can most easily be found for if someone else gets her name. Hopefully they won't mock her for it. She'd hate to have to bite anyone so early into her stay.

"Do not think me rude for asking, but... is it the strangeness of this place that perturbs you so, or are you angry?" Of course, she hopes for the former; the strangeness of it all frustrates Éowyn, and she would feel less alone to know that others are as confused as she is. Not that she would ever admit as much, of course, for to admit to loneliness would be to admit weakness, and she will not introduce herself with weakness.

She sees the efficiencies, the possibilities inherent in the technology, and she's fascinated. Judging by the woman's dress when she glances at it, their worlds might well be similar in that regard, even if Melisande's is of a finer cut, a royal blue silk that flows like water. But it would be easy to assume that she means the train, and for all that she's been cast as a submissive in this little show, Melisande has always had a distinctly perverse sense of humor. [ Everyone seems to be content enough on the train as the scenery flashes on by, yet there's a small corner of said train where a dark cloud looms. Or more accurately, one detective Gavin Reed is standing, arms folded as he keeps an eye on who boards the train and disembarks. None of this is sitting well with him and the idea he's been branded as submissive still rankles. No-one is going to claim him and if Gavin has to break someone's bones to prove that point then so be it; he's not an object. The concept of 'submissive' has gone right over his head, detective skills be damned. Sometimes pride gets in the way of such critical thinking and Gavin's own pride and arrogance is such it's a miracle he even managed to fit through the train doors.

He doesn't seem to want to talk to anyone right now, eyes narrowing if someone even tries to attempt. If his aggressive posture doesn't scare brave souls away, a muttered fuck off would probably do the trick. It's only when the transport comes to the last stop that Gavin shows an emotion that isn't annoyance, lips curling into a smirk as he glances at the nearest person.]

Inhabitants of the Down? Pretty sure that means you. [ He's going to ignore the fact that it actually means him, pointedly refusing to disembark at the stop he's being told to and ignoring when the instruction is directed more at him than anything. Fuck that noise, what are they going to do, arrest him?]

[ Somehow a nightclub feels like familiar ground despite how weird things seem to be. Gavin notes how some people seemingly hook up and wander off to more private areas, making a point to not let someone do the same to him. Not unless he starts it, naturally. Back at the Detroit City Police Department, Reed was often the one sitting with his feet up on the desk, texting away on his phone and looking like he had nothing to do at any given time. His boss would be proud of him now though as Gavin makes sure to keep an eye on his surroundings, even when he reaches down to snag some of the free food. Look, if it's free it would be stupid not to, okay?

He can't deny his curiosity was pinged upon hearing about how the nightclub functioned, a place that people only knew the location of a few hours beforehand. The reasoning as to why is abundantly clear; there's none of the dominant / submissive bullshit rules in place and Gavin vaguely wonders if he can just stay in this place. He wants nothing to do with the concept right now and he slowly chews on his food before grabbing a new drink. Whatever; if anything a place like this is perfect to get some kind of information. There would always be that one person who squealed no matter what. It was just a case of finding them and kicking it out of them. For now Gavin seems fine with just eating the food, only just glancing at his device when it notifies him of a message later on in the evening.]

[ To his credit, Gavin manages to keep his scoffs (and few laughs) inaudible as he watches the lesson in...whatever the hell this was. He's not even sure to be honest. [in a normal scenario, there is a statistical likelihood ranging from 24-37% of encountering a familiar face in the city of detroit, based on the number of connections a regular human being is likely to have made in their time there. for connor this is an even lower number given that his interactions have been limited to the detroit police force and the deviants he's pursued up until now. thinking about his last one--elijah kamski--and his final words that hung over chloe, the rt600 on her kness, plush carpeting supporting her while her life was at his mercy...it's too daunting right now. his led will dip red if he thinks about the final choice he'd made, and this isn't the ideal place to linger on his original case.

his task list on his hud dictates that he try and continue locating information about deviants--if there are any--in duplicity. he hasn't fully broken down his red walls and entered full deviancy. if he can help it, that's not a choice he'll need to face. having a tangential mission and purpose is more than enough to keep him going now.

so he gives his name simply as "connor", forgoing his model number for once to try and keep this experience as immersive and authentic as possible. it's strange needing to carry around an extra device in his jacket pocket rather than have all the information directly relayed through his processors and into his own databank, but his led cycles yellow to try and determine what's vibrating before he remembers he's waiting on an assignment.

seeing the name reminds connor that humans have an expression to indicate the way that sometimes, things seem to defy statistics in a way that seem foreordained.

As a newcomer, and new to all of this, in fact, Luke had been strongly encouraged to attend this training session. Perhaps because the only context in which "training" had applied to him previously was Jedi training, he'd been woefully unprepared for what he found. However, refusing to bow out now that he'd committed, he'd stayed. If only in the sense that he hadn't left--Luke ranged about the perimeter, barely able to look at anything actually going on, only making eye contact with those who spoke to him because that was easier than potentially staring at a human piece of furniture.

Can anyone possibly like doing that? he asked himself. And why would anyone think I'd be capable of making someone?

It went against everything in his nature, this "dominance" thing. Not that he'd know from experience, sexually. It was more that the idea of telling anyone what to do, of being in control over another living being, felt wrong. More so now that he was aware of the Force, could feel the flow of energy between all living things, and had a certain advantage when it came to control. Himself, he was comfortable controlling.

He didn't think he'd ever feel comfortable taking control over anyone else. He'd seen first hand what that looked like, and it terrified him.

So he'd come here, hoping that by "training" he'd learn something about how to perform this "role" he'd never asked for. And now that he was here, he felt stupid, unsure where to look, and a little bit hot under his tight-fitting collar.

Why had she even come here? Okay, no, that was a stupid question, she knew why. She was trying, fairly desperately at that, to figure out how to fit into this "dominant" role and not make everyone side-eye her at best and punish her for failing at worst.

But now she was abruptly quite certain that failure was probably inevitable, and she was just wandering blindly, unsure of what to do.

Until she suddenly found herself standing next to a man who looked just as unnerved as her, but who somehow she felt some sort of... deep, untouchable peace coming from. Something she felt with her heart as strongly as when she'd been standing next to King Mickey. Standing there for a moment, she tried to emulate that.

"It's, uh... a little intense, isn't it?"

[ The only reason he's here is to pair himself off before the government does it for him. Barnes has entire preconceived (and largely incorrect) notions on what dominance and submission are, and he doesn't really feel like the kind of guy that runs around smacking people with riding crops or whatever. As such, he can't even begin to wrap his head around choosing someone that's supposed to submit to him, and frankly the whole thing makes his skin crawl.

He sure as hell isn't interested in being brainwashed by the government's liberation bullshit though, so here he is, going through the motions, watching people pretending to be tables and trying to find someone that catches his eye based on posture alone apparently. He's studious as he walks through, with arms crossed loosely over his chest and one hand pressed to his lips. Fingers pick at the bottom one absently as he strolls, flicking eyes over men and women alike, trying not to feel like a fucking creep.

This is... probably not the right way to go about it, but he doesn't know a better way, so he stops every so often to let his gaze linger along any particularly appealing form - or any personality quirks that stand out.

It was loud, someone asked for his name, he gave it, and twenty minutes later notifications started popping up on his phone like some kind of persistent club-based Tinder. He's rejected every single notification thus far, opting instead to shove drinks down his throat like it'll take his mind off of the persistent buzzing.

When it goes off for the fourth or fifth time his fingers hover over the screen, torn between swiping left or swiping right and instead - for once - taking the time to look the person over. ]

[Listening to the tour was probably the most surreal thing that had happened to him so far. Which said a lot, really. There were aspects of the Up that seemed so familiar, reminded him so much of the bustle of Insomnia.

Which only makes it harder for him to look out the window, watch this city that is so much like home and so different rush by. He shrugs deeper into his jacket, head bowed to hide his face and the delicate line that mars his throat now. Listening to the way these people talk about submissives is a little bit nauseating. He was royalty, he had servants, but he'd never dream of treating people like that.

Not that anyone here knew who he was. He's... supposed to be dead, after all.

When the train comes to the end of it's tour in Riddler's Square and the subs are meant to exit the train he resolutely stays where he is, arms crossed over his chest, blue eyes bright with defiant anger. He's about to cause a scene. Save him?]

He keeps thinking it's going to be corrected somehow, that they'll adjust things and he'll go back to just being a displaced prince (not king, not yet, it can't be real). Not this... whatever he is.

It's a constant fight, torn between actually zipping up his jacket to hide the mark and only wearing his t-shirt because it's so godsdamned hot. He has no idea what he's getting into, not really, but there's a conference room and people are encouraged to go and usually that sort of thing means there's free food. They always feed people at these sorts of things, it's the only way they can get anyone to come (or stay awake).

Once he gets inside and sees the uh... demonstration though he's not entirely sure he wants to stay. He turns, tries to make his way back towards the entrance without drawing too much attention but trying to leave in the middle of things does exactly that.]

[ Cassandra, too, finds the beautiful architecture and opulent trappings of the Up familiar. It's not so different from her hometown of Nevarra City, or the Orlesian capital of Val Royeaux where she'd spent so much of her adulthood.

If she were to be completely honest, Iri probably would have been more comfortable as a submissive. She isn't used to making choices on her own in anything other than small, daily things. On a larger scale she's much better just letting others guide things along.

But on the other hand, she has learned a lot from Kiritsugu. Maybe she can handle this after all. Assuming she can make it past the little fact that she's been separated from her husband and daughter, and not by death as she'd expected.

Still, it seems like most everyone here is in a similar situation. That's at least one bit of common ground. Trying to focus on that, she manages a smile at people as they come in close, hoping to get someone to sit next to her that she can, perhaps, plan something out with. If there's one thing she's going to need here, it's a friendly face or two.

Maybe the bus isn’t segregated, but the distinction between classes is there, in how Submissives cluster together like androids, unless they’re with their Dominant. Kara doesn’t remember going on errands for Todd or any prior owner, but she did enough when running away with Alice that she’s afraid that she’s doing everything wrong and will be apprehended on sight.

This time, Kara is isn’t property. The freedom she fought for back home carried over when she walked through her chosen door. It’s something of a relief, although she has to admit that she’d do okay if she’d been marked for life in the Down—she doesn’t need to eat or sleep. Surviving wouldn’t be hard. And people tended to take pity on her when she was on the run. She’d find a better place soon.

Scraping by, living and dying on the whims of the elite--it was one thing to live it in Caridis, born to a station. There were options for mobility, and the lottery nature of the Koronokto with which to seize bits of power. He'd been climbing up from the canals for half his life. With his instruments, by courting the right people in the Geltean theaters, the Virmidian salons.

It's a very different thing, to open a door and feel like you chose it.

Everywhere he looks, there are the marked travelling in packs, if by mandate or for protection. There are the possessed and their possessors; men and women on their knees, public expression brooked with the lift of a dominant's hand.

Even in the scarlet streets of Virmidis, the fawning and keeping of pets wasn't so overt. It's like a layer stripped from the world, and he can close his eyes, touch the words on the door again, feel his stomach drop. Worse than a real choice; it's enough to be here, to be removed from everything he knew. Whether he made the choice or was chosen for it, something wants him to know his place--and stay there.

There wasn't long to wallow in it. Orientation, rules--your new life in shades of grey, between bars of black and white. It's a lot to absorb, but he keeps his eyes down and his ears open. There's always something--if not a way out, a way to ease the ties of a situation. A way to make life bearable. It comes in a form he doesn't quite expect; the hides and haunts of his world are rather open, depending on where you go to find them. There are districts for debauchery, islands of the arts--but in a place like this, is it any real surprise the rebellion has drink service?

Tugging at his collar to hide his mark would only draw that same attention to it, so he leans into it, tipping his head to put back a drink. The heat of the Down has already unravelled his hair from its braid, and he pushes it back as he sets the glass down with a chink of glass on stone.

A train ride is a good place to collect one's thoughts, have a quiet conversation, or just stare out the window and let your mind drift.

Right now Kairi is really wishing she could go with the second option rather than the first or third, because wow are the thoughts rushing through her mind not exactly ones she wants to dwell on. This place is... really getting to her.

So it's a good thing she's got long-standing practice at putting on a brave face, smiling when she's all twisted up inside, and being cheery. She smiles hopefully at anyone who passes her, hoping she'll get a seatmate to talk to. With all the people hopping on, it's gotta work eventually, right?

[ having been afoot at chaldea for some time, shuten douji was used to showing up in weird parts of the world with different laws, areas, magics. the only difference is that the choice of traveling across the timeline has been taken from her, and her master with it. perhaps it's no surprise that this finally happened: da vinci was ever the eccentric type, and she enjoyed fiddling with the technology that surrounded the defenders of the world. despite the orientation, shuten isn't completely convinced that this has nothing to do with the rayshift technology yet, but... for now, she will see how things go.

Someone's having fun!

[Demons rarely aren't. New as he may be to all this time-hopping, world-saving business, it didn't take him long to learn the faces and names of each new ally. A hundred and eight weren't so bad. What's a hundred more? It was certainly easy to remember the fellow Assassin with the large gourd contrasting her petite frame and the red horns protuding above her lovely face. Shuten Douji: a notorious oni peerless in appetite. Around her, caution was only a matter of course.

Of course, that meant it was harder to tell if she was the same Shuten he knew, but Assassin liked taking his chances. No risk, no reward.

It was hard to take it all seriously, at first. Not the abduction part. That kind of thing happened to her once a tenday, at the very least. But the expectations that these people had for those they'd taken, that had been hard to grasp.

But it's sinking in now, as the tour goes on. She listens, because knowing the layout of this plane would be important. But she doesn't have to sit there and like any of it.

She stands out on the train. Her clothes for one, say she's more from a medieval fantasy, than this sharp, technology heavy place. She has swords on her hips, and a light chainmail shirt, that glows a gentle green. The cloak around her shoulders shimmers in irridescent colors, and gives off a compelling pull of subtle magic, that makes the red head seem a bit more approachable.

Even though she's slouching in her seat, arms crossed, and has an expression on her face that could potentially set the whole train on fire.

Well, this was certainly something. Not quite the underground rally of change, she was hoping to find, but that element was clearly hanging in the air. And if she was going to try to help the equality effort in Duplicity, this was likely the place to find like minded folk.

Taking a chance, she tosses her name into the lottery. There is nothing really expected for people being paired here, so what's the harm? At the very least if a person is here, they aren't totally thrilled with the status quo. Maybe she could offer assistance.

[The day has been a whirlwind of confusion, learning and thorough doubt. Mai's head had been too full of new information to do much more than follow near mutely along during the tour. And then when people disembarked in the end in the Up, it was all she could do to be ushered to where she's intended to live so she can sit and just process it all.

One can only mull over things for so long though. And Mai is restless, far too restless to even dream of just sitting and trying to figure out what being dominant actually means here beyond a nice home, a nice town and the idea of having to take on a submissive in three months time.

Instead it seems better to escape the questions about roles for a moment and Autonomy offers just that. When the random lottery of connections is brought up, Mai enters half-heartedly and without really mulling over what she may get in the end. The city's architecture is impressive. Almost enough to distract from the rest of the scenario, but only just. Orlais' architecture was impressive. The depravity of its upper class as well. He turns away from the windows, to one of the many unfamiliar faces nearby. Most of them arrived at the same time, and yet--

And yet he hopes that the answer will be no. That a longtime resident can give him information the official welcome committee would not.

The voice comes from beside him. The girl has hair the color of freshly spilt blood, that falls in long wild curls. She's looks at him with a mixture of mild hope and caution. She's not here for recreation, either, and something about his stance and attitude gave her hope that maybe she'd found someone like minded.

"Are you..." She has to look back down at the device in her hand. "Cullen?"

[This is downright surreal. Soeki Halloway-Crowe, professional demon-fucking necromancer, is used to the strange and bizarre, but this- What the hell. What the hell, man? For half a minute, he thinks this is actually Hell, but no, the atmosphere isn't something physical bearing down on him, that's just the threads of panic knotting in his gut and stealing his breath away. Oh, Christ, he is backup-less and alone and marked, and this is bad. He just kind of watches with wide brown eyes as people get on and off the train, occasionally reaching up to touch the new mark at his throat.

He is so fucked.

He is- are those people fucking on that bridge? Soeki is paler than he usually is, which is saying something, and he leans over closer to his seat-mate, whispering with a note of hysteria,] Is everybody brainwashed or something? I'm pretty sure I read a dollar store smut novel like this once. I do not like where this crazy-train is going.

[It's a relief to get off the train, even if the housing arrangement is going to absolutely fucking blow. A shitty motel room in the Down, people shooting him looks he can't quite decipher through the near-constant haze of panic that doesn't seem to leave. He has to get out. He cannot live like this.

The odd whisper in the night brings only a bit of comfort. Autonomy is a welcome sight when he's ushered inside, because trying to learn the customs and blend in around here as a Submissive is fucking killing him. It's not that the sexual connotations bother him - he's pretty switchy - but the rest of this societal bullshit? He really isn't a fan, and he guesses he hasn't seen everything in his future.

Soeki's first stop is the bar for a strong drink, which he downs quickly, and without hardly thinking about what he's doing, he puts his name into the lotto for a random pairing. Guy's gotta get someone on his side around here. That's the thought process, anyway; his survival instincts are screaming for him to find a bigger guy (or girl, he's really not picky) to hide behind. When his device chimes with a message, he's looking up, eyes darting around the crowd.] Are you, uh- [This is so stupid. He waves his device vaguely.] Hi. I'm Soeki. This is ridiculous. I don't know how I got here in the first place and now I'm just like, swiping right on people hoping for somebody sane because nothing has made sense since I opened that obviously cursed door. Please be sane. Or buy me a drink, because I can't handle this sober.

( if he's looking for someone a lot bigger to hide behind, he's going to have to try a lot harder than af. while he's not necessarily small, af can be unassuming and blend in when he wants to. not that he's trying right now, especially since he's not dressed like a dominant – they seem to be a lot more expensive than af's hoodie and jeans – and even if he did try, he's not sure what that would amount to. a lost hookup? starving for another day when he didn't have to in a world that did this all the time? he didn't know why they'd bothered to bring him here when he knows for certain that he isn't free of this deceit thing they'd talked about on arrival. he hadn't been his whole existence.

Given everything that has happened to him in Beacon Hills - like seriously, everything - showing up in an empty room with no memory of how he got there is really, really unsettling. The whole thing reeks of Dread Doctors to him and he doesn't like it at all, but what can be worse than staying in a room he doesn't recognize? The only way to move forward is, well, to move forward. He slips through one of the doors, only barely glancing at the words along each. Weird.

He doesn't feel the new tattoo as it materializes down his throat, but later he wonders how the hell it happened, and how they managed it without a blow torch, because if anything good comes from this - and sure, if that has to be as small as figuring out how to get a new tattoo without agonizing pain - he'll take it. Because from the start, the rest doesn't seem great: so you mean he's stuck here, no going home, just leaving his friends and family behind for some place that sounds really messed up? His growing horror was probably apparent on the train ride tour, and when he wound up dumped in the Down, there was no way he'd stay put for long.

That's what brings him to Autonomy. He hadn't been given the password, but whatever this place was, it hadn't affected his abilities: overhearing something a block away is still no big deal. He reaches the club, murmurs the pass phrase at the door, and finds himself surrounded by people with the tattoo and without. The lottery makes him hesitate, but if this place is all for people who think the system here is crap, then he's got nothing to lose. Scott enters his name, and walks around the club slowly with his device in hand, listening in on conversations, looking for - he's not sure. Familiar faces, definitely, but also anyone who looks as freaked out as he did. It's still in his nature to help.

There is definitely someone that stands out, and not because of her vibrantly pink hair and matching eyes. Her scent isn't exactly human, with that undertone of blood and predator that one like her can never seem to shake. She's not hunting though, or lat least doesn't seem to be. If anything she looks confused and shocked at everything going on around her, and has tucked herself off to the side and is just watching everyone else with an air of anxious befuddlement.

[ -- of course, is it truly possible that any mere nightclub in the modern world could hold the interest of a King who has experienced all Earthly pleasures during his reign? Gilgamesh rather doubts it, but this is certainly a far more likable setting than those wretched Grail Wars. Certainly lesser creatures do have a tendency towards artifice and the denial of their base impulses, and watching them squirm and struggle with them is always extremely entertaining, as with, for example, priests who call pleasures sins. Fortunately he, the King, has no such inhibitions and encourages the pursuit of all pleasures, even some of a rather amoral sort. Rather, he simply is the arbiter of all morality and the creator of the original law codes, so he dictates justice of his own accord.

well, he is not certain yet whether this world will be Interesting or not, but so far it is looking quite wholesome and good by his standards and Gilgamesh at least enjoys the free food and drinks. of course he submits his name to the lottery, too, because why not? maybe some mongrel can provide the King with some entertainment. while waiting, he just reclines in the club and looks relatively comfortable. waiting for that message from the prospective match. ]

Of course -- [ musing aloud!! hello, some random person nearby? ] it is rather cheap swill compared to a King's treasury, yet lowering one's self to a commoner and mingling has its own entertainments. And this location does stir the joys of a man's soul and spirit -- don't you think so, mongrel?

( af denies nothing of his baser impulses. in fact, he revels in them and relies heavily on them to keep him from starving. he hasn't, yet, indulged in any of the people around him, but he'd also tried surveying most of the surroundings to get an idea of how it really worked. at least this place was neutral in terms of what he'd been labelled. how did he advertise for sex? maybe being a dominant had more perks; he isn't entirely sure. still, he's had a few drinks by the time someone starts ranting about drinking – so much for his self-control? – and he turns his head to get both eyes on this person. his interest drives itself up to nearly a thousand for one reason and one only. )

( it comes out of curiosity, holding a cup and looking a bit flushed. it's not because of the liquor though, and af bites at his lip, wondering if it'd be weird to get to his knees and show royalty exactly the kind of respect they deserve. in the back of his head, he can hear kaj criticizing him for being a needy slut, but he's not doing anything. yet. so, all he does is smile to punctuate the question. )

[ She can't do this.

It had been bad enough, sitting through the explanations and the initial tour through town. At first she'd been convinced that it was all a horrible dream, or a twisted joke. The Inquisitor had told her of the red lyrium future that she and Varric had apparently experienced - perhaps something similar had happened again? A nightmare world, soon to be put right and relegated to a cautionary tale.

But whatever happens in the future, she is here, now, and apparently this is neither dream nor jest. Her own status as a Submissive had hardly fazed her at first. Despite her upbringing, she's used to sleeping on the ground or on hard wooden floors, and she's never been all that picky about what she eats. Being assigned to a luxurious apartment while so many suffered, given unbridled power over people totally dependent on her sense of mercy just to live, would, she thinks, actually have been worse.

That belief is only confirmed when she's led to the demonstration and finds herself watching a half-clothed woman get down on hands and knees, head bowed and eyes covered as her supposed partner uses her as - as furniture. She clamps her hands into fists, closing her eyes and forcing herself to recite the Chant in her head in order to keep herself from upsetting the degrading scene before her, putting it right.

Through the paths of this world, and into the next...

No, it's the society here, the underlying, inescapable tenets rooted so firmly in injustice and power differentials, that rankles her - that, and not her own personal place in that society. Or so she thinks, up until her silent prayer is interrupted by an announcement and she opens her eyes to find the formerly blindfolded woman once more on her feet, seemingly happy and content as she works alongside her Dominant. Cassandra stares into her eyes, seeking some hint of resentment, of righteous anger at her situation - but she sees nothing of the sort.

And then something is shoved into her hands, and she turns to find more than one pair of curious eyes upon her, upon the mark on her neck that she's made no effort to hide. She lifts her chin, setting her jaw and glaring at anyone daring to meet her eye, even as her hands begin to tremble.

She can't do this. She can't. ]

[ She's not here for sex, or - worse by far - some kind of role reversal when she has no more interest in holding power over others than she's enjoyed the opposite - or so she fervently believes. No, Cassandra had sought out the club just for a night of respite from her assigned role, and to listen for any rumors, no matter how frustratingly vague, of any sort of more organized resistance. She cannot stand by and let the city continue this way. Let her life continue this way.

She has to do something.

For the moment, though, she's merely sitting at the bar, head bowed over her drink in an attitude that's half exhaustion, half ever-growing despair. The mark is still clearly visible on her neck and disappearing down her shirt; as much as she hates it, she'd never once considered hiding the role this city has assigned her. ]

[It would be a lie to say that this is his first exposure to...exotic pleasures, but it's not as though he's overly familiar with this sort. [ Orientation may be over, but that doesn't mean that every person in the group has decided to simply take the knowledge they've been given and simply be quiet about it. In fact, one girl in particular has decided the very opposite of being quiet. Looking left and right as she's ushered to her seat on the train, she's complaining like every bit the rich girl she is, only just short of threatening to call someone's manager.

After all, Nonon has a place. Her place is not here. Even aside from the everything else that she still hasn't quite wrapped her head around yet, she simply knows in her heart that she shouldn't be here. And she wants everyone to know. ]

Can you seriously believe what they told us? You don't seriously think they expect us to just stay here, do they?!

[ She's loud... and small, though that choice in chic marching band shako on her head makes her look slightly taller. Whoever happens to be sitting next to her as the train begins its journey better be ready to either sit it out, or engage with her.

Though after an hour or so after snacks and refreshments have been served, she's a much more amenable person, turning her anger dial (and volume dial) down a few notches as she snacks on what can only be expensive chocolate. Motioning at the a pair entering the train to whoever she's sitting with, a submissive takes their place kneeling in front of their Dominant as if it were the most natural thing in the world, Nonon can't help but question it. ]

...What's the deal with that?

[ Almost as if it were some kind of super power, Nonon's found herself in a nightclub of all places. Attracted at first by the pumping of bass from outside, she managed to get inside no even knowing what at all to expect. At least she's already dressed for a night on the town, in an expensive black dress with gold accoutrement around the collar. ]

Ah, it's like music to my ears~

[ Except it actually is, given the decibels filling her every inch from head to toe. Maybe she shouldn't stand so near to the speakers.

Between dancing and eating, there's certainly plenty going on around the periphery of her attention. People coming in and out of the back rooms, she can't fight her own curiosity, grabbing someone by the arm (or simply standing in front of them) to get some answers. ]

[ Through the entire demonstration, Nonon has been uncharacteristically silent. Between the soft spoken words from Dominant to submissive, the woman on her hands and knees blindfolded, the strangely thick atmosphere that almost feels like it's suffocating, though not exactly in a displeasurable way.

By the time it's finished, there's no mistaking the light sweat in her palms, or the strangely short breaths she's taking. When she's asked by one of the women leading the demonstration if she'd like to come up and try, offering her a plate. And yet she finds herself declining, making a joke of it. ]

I've already got enough tables at home, I don't need another one I also have to feed and clothe.

[ It's a dumb joke,. One told without any bite to it. Because maybe to anyone else, it might be easy to see where just what Nonon is thinking, past that tough, obnoxiously proud exterior. She would like to try to submissive role, as wrong as it might be, though she can't just go and say that, can she? ]

[That thought makes Kairi scowl, which honestly she'd rather not do right now. It kind of feels like with all that's just been dumped on them, if she starts getting down now she might not ever get back up.]

I mean, think about it. We have no idea where we are or how we got here, we're surrounded by an entire city full of people who apparently really want us to stick around, and I for one haven't seen a way out. You wanna put in a request to the folks in charge, you can try, but somehow I don't think they're in a listening mood.

[And great, now she's just said out loud everything she was pondering about this subject earlier. It's even worse because she should be able to leave this place at any time. Her keyblade's still summonable, but that feature doesn't appear to be working.]
