It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant. Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

lies travel in company BUT WHAT IF 👀
at least until someone asks if they can take his seat to talk with the person in front of him, and being the nice person that he is, he nods once before practically falling out of it and scrambling to find a new one. that he almost ends up in ivy's lap is completely accidental, and his entire face burns red. yikes. ]
Uh, yeah, I guess? [ he's so confused. does he sit or move? he feels trapped suddenly. ] Is that okay with you?
!!! heyyy stranger!
she subtly eyes up the boy as he's being jostled on the train, up the pretty line of his neck of course until –
as chance would have it, he has landed in her lap and she can barely get her question out without giggling quietly, arms out to catch him, to sort of ease his fall against her. ]
Oh, I've got no problem with it. [ she winks and releases him, but only after making sure he's alright with a cursory glance and a nod to herself. ] I'm Ivy. I'm new. I'm assuming you are too.
fancy seein u here
That easy to tell, huh? Guess they probably make it that way since we're all on this thing for the same reason. [ probably the point, he realizes, but he tries to go for cool rather than dumb-obvious. ] Name's Prompto. Nice to meet you, Ivy. [ his expressions relaxes for a brief moment. ] You think this kinda thing really works? Like, y'know, getting people together and stuff?
[ wait, wait, wait. that sounds so wrong. he backtracks at least twenty steps. ] Not that I mean we're gonna do any of that. I just meant, uh, in general. Haha. [ he just wants to die, goodbye. ]
😚!!
I mean, I don't exactly know my way around here either. So I'm glad to like ... see someone who doesn't either. I'm not sure about this getting people together thing but –
[ she tries not to laugh at how he stumbles over his words and she shakes her head. ] – but I wouldn't mind getting together if I'm comfortable.
[ oh, ivy. subtlety has never been your forte. ]
😳!!!!
he laughs a little in agreement before the rest of it sinks in, and prompto catches himself on the front of his seat when the train pulls to another stop to let more people off and on. did that mean — no way. absolutely no way. ]
What, um... what kind of together do you mean exactly? The whole Dom and sub thing, or – [ he swallows, feeling his face heat up again. ] Or sex stuff?
[ somehow, he manages to not melt onto the floor and cease to exist once it leaves his mouth. but only barely. ]
no subject
[ that's when she falters, wondering how honest she should be, wondering what he might think of her if she is too honest – or if she conceals too much of herself.
ivy folds her hands in her lap and looks out the window for a second before turning to him again, her voice a touch softer than before. ] Well, sex stuff and friend stuff, for sure. I don't really know about Dom and sub stuff except for weird sex tips in magazines that don't make sense?
[ but her smile has at least returned when she continues, ] But like I said, only when I'm comfortable. You should do what makes you feel good, right? [ that's what she keeps telling herself anyway. ]
no subject
I don't really know a lot about it either. There was this video I saw one time... [ but he's not going to talk about that. so, he coughs and clears his throat before shrugging a little. ] But, uh, that's real smart. Doesn't seem like that kinda stuff should be uncomfortable for anybody or anything. Do what you're into, right?
[ never mind he doesn't actually know what he's really into, but that's another discussion for a different day. ]
no subject
not that you can tell, not with the way she grins and sits so casually and confidently, attention on both the passing scenery and the young man next to her. they're already confiding a lot for people who have just exchanged names but she tries not to think too much of that. ]
I can help, if you want. I mean, if you need someone to talk to about it.
[ or try things out, she doesn't say because that seems like way more than she should be saying after all that she has implied. ] I'm also still kind of figuring out what Duplicity is about anyway. Like, I get social classes where I'm from but this is ... beyond me, in a way.
no subject
Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. [ he gives her a weak smile, and then, as if having a thought, he carefully lifts up to pull the device out of one of his pockets. it's tucked in there next to his phone from back home, but that one is definitely not working here. ] Maybe we can figure it out with these things. D'you think there's some sort of forum or whatever we can visit that explains stuff like that? [ the internet is obviously the best thing ever. ] Or there's gotta be a guide somewhere.
[ he leans closer, letting her see the screen. ] Look! I can connect to this.
[ time to browse duplicity's network for answers. ]
no subject
[ ivy is really showing how green she is here, but she supposes that it's better than jumping into something and being immediately overwhelmed. besides, the conversation doesn't hurt and she likes her seatmate. ] These phones are crazy. Do you have anything like that where you're from? Mine's just kind of like – flat and you can't fold it.
[ anyway, she slides her finger across the screen and fiddles a little with some of the applications. and. is immediately bored. ] I read somewhere they offered like Dom and sub classes on relationship building? I don't even know how that goes. I just picture whips and leather but I know it's more than that.
[ 50 shades of gray, who? ]
no subject
Definitely can't fold my phone like this. It'd be pretty cool tryin' to take pics though. [ and to prove what he means, he accesses the camera function and leans forward so his face is smashed into the screen with a big smile next to ivy's. ] Say chains and handcuffs! [ prompto laughs when he looks at the photo after he snaps it, storing it for future use before lazily flipping through the network some more. ] I can send that to you later if you want it. [ and then: ] Would you wanna take a class? I don't think I'd mind learning things if it's gonna help make this easier. We could, um, go together?
[ what choice do they really have right now anyway? ]
no subject
A class though... [ she leans back and scratches her chin. well, they're pretty familiar with each other by now and she can't see the harm in trying it, instead of being paired up with a stranger. normally she would be pretty gung-ho about everything, but the element of the unknown holds her back. ]
Yeah, I can do that. I'll be gentle. [ she winks at him, just because. ]
no subject
but he's trying to remain semi-professional though—whatever that means. until she agrees to his suggestion and winks at him, that is. then, his face heats up and he fumbles with his device to the point he nearly loses it between them on the floor when the train draws to another stop. ]
I wasn't – That isn't what I was – [ he sighs and hangs his head. ] When did you wanna go? Not sure if they have times or places listed. I still don't know my way around this place yet. [ and there isn't an exact guide to follow. they could always ride this train around until they get familiar with stuff, but prompto doesn't want to suggest that because it might make him look like he's trying too hard. ]
no subject
[ she waits for him to pick his phone up again before placing her hand on his, hoping to be warm and reassuring. ] I wouldn't mind a partner right now. If we decided to, um, partner up officially, we could help each other then too. I know that's all up in the air right now since we're just arriving.
[ bold, maybe, and very much without that edge ivy usually carries with her, but she's feeling a little more open today, or at least feels some kind of kinship with her new friend. and besides, the down world didn't look so hot. she would feel bad to let anyone linger there too long ] I know that you're supposed to get off the train when this is over. I can get off with you.
no subject
right. one thing at a time. ]
Guess it'd make stuff a little easier if we stuck together, huh? [ he does his best to keep his voice from gaining an octave. ] But are you sure? 'Cause you don't have to stay down here with me. Or maybe I can just walk you back. [ or something? whatever, he's going crazy. he still has no idea if his friends are here, which means he's alone until further notice; being with ivy for as long as possible would help with some of that. ] I mean, if that's something you wanna do.
no subject
If you wanted. I know I could use a partner in this! [ ivy nods again. ] But yeah, I'm sure! Really.
[ it makes the new world a little less scary too her and she can't imagine not enjoying being in his company. the train takes them through the rest of the up area and she can't help but feel a little pang of guilt because it's just ... better than what the down people have, at least from what she's seen. ]
no subject
he thinks about reaching out to repeat the motion of tucking her hair behind an ear and immediately thinks his soul is leaving his body. why are girls so cute? ]
Cool. [ it's punctuated with a weak smile, eyes darting from her face to the outside as they descend into the down. this part of the trip doesn't look like a pleasant one, and he needs to distract himself before he internally agonizes over the mark that's plain as day down his throat. ] Thanks, Ivy. [ a beat. ] Where d'you think we should start?
[ if this doesn't work, he's just going to pull out his camera and show her a thousand pictures of eos. oops. ]
no subject
[ she doesn't know what it is about him or being her or her current state of mind, but she wants to close the gap between them, even if she knows better than to come on too strong to a near-stranger. the clean lines of the world above blur into something darker and she goes silent for a moment, distracted.
where to start. she worries a lip between her teeth. ]
I'm from a place called Westchester. I go to school there and I ... act and do other things schoolkids do, I guess. We go to parties and sneak out pretty often. I guess I get into a decent amount of trouble. [ she laughs to herself; it all sounds so rudimentary here. ]
no subject
You're still in school?! Oh man. [ he laughs, slouching down into his seat. ] I couldn't wait to get outta there. Stuff was okay for me, I guess, but all I wanted to do was hang out with my best buddy and play video games. [ he always got his ass kicked, but she doesn't need to know that. anyway, he's relaxing the more he just talks about something that isn't duplicity and its assigned designations, and he rubs a hand through his hair. ] I grew up in Insomnia. It's this huge place. Here –
[ and out comes his camera, flipping through pics of the busy streets and the citadel and even the one he'd managed to snap of the throne room. ]
But I was on this trip 'cause my best friend was getting married, and... [ he leans back, frowning a little before he smiles at her. ] And now I'm here sittin' next to you.
no subject
[ oh god, she admitted her age out loud. it's just enough to add a tinge of pink to her cheek and briefly look away from him in embarrassment. so much for coming off as ... sophisticated. ] You went on a road trip for your friend's marriage? Is that how traditional weddings are in Insomnia?
[ it didn't seem right to have a destination wedding with the groom there with you and, she assumes, away from his spouse-to-be. she leans into him, shoulder bumping against shoulder, and grins at the sights of a city she has never even heard of before. ] Oh.
no subject
[ which doesn't give him a whole lot of world experience in comparison, but he thinks the road trip with the guys has been... eye-opening. that, and he'd somehow managed to hold his own for a while against the imperials and all the random creatures roaming around the countryside. he forces out a quiet breath, stopping his picture spree on a photo of him and the guys in various poses with the regalia behind them. ]
It was... I dunno, complicated? We were taking him to this place called Altissia to meet her so they could get married there. [ should he tell her about the war? that seemed like a lot, so he doesn't mention it. instead, he figures he might as well spill the beans on the rest of it and lightly taps at his camera to indicate noct. ] He's the prince of Lucis. Insomnia's the capital. [ prompto looks up just in time to see the down bridge and immediately glances at ivy. ] I kinda almost wish I was back in school now.
no subject
It's not that great. School, I mean. Not that complicated bachelor parties are better, from the sounds of it. [ she nudges him with her elbow. ] You all must care a lot about this prince, your friend.
[ it gives her a little more depth to this boy, understanding that there is much more than meets the eye. she lets her hand rest over the lens case and doesn't move away so quickly this time. ]
no subject
[ it's wistful and soft, sorting through a few more pics and letting his thumb brush over the unfiltered light of one that captures the distant, jagged lines of the disc of cauthess and how the meteorite impact had affected the landscape. it's all beautiful, really, but it's also terrifying in a way. he could never go back to insomnia, and he'd never quite found his place in the world outside of it despite having traveled so much with his friends. but... that's another thought for a different day; he doesn't need ivy thinking he's a huge downer or anything right now. ]
Studying's boring, but man, it sure beats the car breaking down in the middle of nowhere. It got soooo hot sometimes. [ he leans closer to her subconsciously, his elbow pressing gently against her side. ] D'you think you'd ever wanna, y'know, do a thing like that after those classes? A Duplicity road trip? We could start a blog or something.
[ he has no idea who would read it, but at least there'd be pictures? ]
no subject
I wouldn't mind exploring with you. You seem like a guy who can capture my best angles. [ oh, ivy, aren't you amusing.
but really, she just wants him to laugh or even just chuckle, because there's no use in getting too far in your own head right now since there seems to be no way back home. she doesn't miss hers, not by any stretch, and while she is nervous about what is to come, she can't deny that she is glad to not be there anymore, in that small community bubble. ]
You sure you wanna start making all these plans with me, Prompto?
no subject
I mean, unless you've got other plans? I'm totally free right now and probably the rest of forever from now too. [ way to not think about their current situation. ] You, um... you wanna play a game until we get wherever it is we're going?
[ he is a master at "i spy" by the way. ]
