« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

semifreakingnormal: (you will never sleep alone)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It doesn't matter how many feet separate them: they can both speak like they're sharing bar space. It's not the first time Scott has done it, and he's seen enough at this point not to be particularly freaked out by it, even if he is surprised. And more than that, he's not ashamed or afraid of what he is, not anymore.

"Werewolf." He pauses for a moment and adds, since he has no idea what a dhampir is, "It's kinda like...half man, half wolf?" That is not a good enough explanation at all, but he's trying.
littledhampir: ♫ It's easier not to be wise and measure these things by your brains (Okay. Just... Huh?)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-16 02:33 pm (UTC)(link)
From the comical look on her face, one that crinkles her eyes and makes her head jerk back, that was either the worst explanation in the world or the last thing she was expecting him to say. Or, both, as the case may in fact be.

"A what?!" Said loud enough that she earns a confused look from somebody standing nearby, Rose forcing a smile on her lips that no doubt, only makes her look more unhinged.

With a roll of her eyes, she refocuses on Scott, lifting her hand up to shield her face as she speaks by pretending to scratch an itch.

"You don't look very wolfy." This from a girl who is about to tell him; "And a Dhampir is somebody who is half Human, half Vampire."
semifreakingnormal: (you're my head start)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Vampires are real?" This, too, comes out a little louder than he intended, and he relocates with an apologetic nod to the people he was standing near. He's careful not to move out of line of sight, though.

With a quick glance around to make sure no one is looking at him, he lets his eyes flash red as he meets hers again, though it's gone a blink later. "I can control it." He's not a bragger, well, not about this anymore, at least. "Do you like...actually drink blood, or...?" This is not in the Bestiary, he's pretty sure of that.
littledhampir: ♫ I want to smash you helpless down on the floor, smash you until you're not here anymore. (Go walk off a cliff.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-16 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"No. Only half men, half wolves are." The hint of a grin playing across her lips because at this point, they're both as bad as each other.

The smile that had started to form, vanishes the second he flashes his eyes at her, Rose backing away from the bar and colliding with somebody behind her, causing them to spill their drink in the process. She doesn't offer them an apology, doesn't dare take her eyes off Scott as her whole body tenses, the brunette on alert as if she thinks he might be about to attack her, even from across the room.

It's not fear in her eyes, however. It's the look of somebody bracing for a fight and the flash of friendliness that had been there before, is for the moment, only a memory.

"Of course not." Her eyes narrowing as if she's looking for the red to appear again. "Do you?"

Maybe this will be one of those things they'll laugh about once there's some context for her reaction. It's hardly Scott's fault that his eyes happen to turn the same color as the supernatural beings who make it their goal in life (or... death?) to kill every Dhampir or Moroi they encounter.

"Your eyes are red." And the state the obvious award goes to...
semifreakingnormal: (baby I'm not moving on)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
He looks startled at her reaction, and immediately kicks himself for not expecting it. He'd thought, for a second, that maybe it was like Beacon Hills, just another new thing in a world full of new things. Assuming that was stupid, and Scott immediately looks apologetic. He also has to resist moving toward her, recognizing that staying still is the better option, here.

"No, God, no." He'd thought he was the one who had reason to fear, but now guilt crawls across his face.

"It just means - I'm an alpha. That's all. I didn't meant to scare you."
littledhampir: ♫ Uncertainty can be a guiding light. (Nothing clever to say here.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-16 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm not scared." Except, that she was, only Rose isn't about to admit that. Only an idiot didn't have a healthy amount of fear when staring down, what they thought might be a Strigoi.

While she doesn't relax exactly, she does seem to be more willing to listen than she had been a few seconds ago, Rose stilling even as the person she'd just bumped into, decides now is the perfect moment to have a go at her.

Without looking away from Scott, she simply pulls out what appears to be a stake made of silver, holding it up for the person accosting her to see as she turns her head just enough to make it obvious she's addressing the man.

"Unless you want me to use this, go find somebody else to bitch at." Then without skipping a beat, she refocuses on Scott, still eyeing him cautiously.

"Alpha?! Is this a wolf thing?" She probably should have waited, her words earning a what from the guy she'd just, casually threatened and it's enough to see Rose allow Scott to be out of her line of sight as she faces the man who is wearing the drink she just spilled, Scott no doubt, able to hear the next interaction even over the sound of the music and conversation in the club.

"I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to the voices in my head and right now? They're telling me to do terrible things if you don't run along and let me go back to my conversation." Her light tone at odds with her choice of words and the fact that she's still holding her stake.

"We need to find a better way to do this." That part meant for Scott, but only succeeding in making Rose look more unhinged by the second.
semifreakingnormal: (like a drum)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Scott coughs into his soda, trying to hide a smile. He's not unaccustomed to struggles like this, but she's doing it with a lot more levity than he's managed in the past. "I saw a back door." They definitely need a better way to do this, and the most obvious option is talking in person.

Turning to nod in the direction of the door he means, Scott glances back at her.

"Meet me there?"
littledhampir: ♫ To all the ones who hated me the most a toast. (I m ignoring everything you say.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-16 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rose isn't unaccustomed to such things herself, it's just that usually she has somebody with her who possesses... a little more finesse than she does. By which she means compulsion. Rose should never be allowed to handle things on her own.

"Deal." Fully aware that in answering, she's only prolonging her escape from this conversation as the drink-wearing guy is now sincerely concerned for her mental health and well-being.

She does make it, however, the stake she'd been flashing earlier once against stowed inside her jacket and while she's eyeing Scott curiously as she closes the distance between them, it doesn't look like she's about to reach for it again.

"As I was saying before. No, I don't drink blood." Picking up the line of conversation from earlier, before they'd been interrupted by that spectacular scene. "That's gross."
semifreakingnormal: (Default)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless that stake is made of mountain ash or mistletoe, he's not too worried about it: his concern is more about freaking out a potential friend. He smiles when she jumps back into the conversation, and is maybe a bit relieved to hear it.

"Good," he says, and then immediately follows up with, "I don't like, eat people or anything, either. And you asked - yeah, alpha is a werewolf thing. It usually just means who you have with you, but..." Scott shakes his head. He hasn't seen any of his pack here, and he's not sure if he should be grateful or not.
littledhampir: ♫ Stick your hands inside of my pockets keep them warm while I'm still here (Hang on your every word.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-16 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
She nods, choosing to accept as much now she's close enough to him to be sure. If he were a Strigoi and all this was just some elaborate ruse to get her alone? She would have felt him the second she was close enough for her weird, undead-o-meter to go off. (Long story).

"Good." Echoing his sentiment as he confirms he doesn't eat people. "Would have sucked if the most interesting person I've met in this place happened to be an evil, people eating, wolf-boy." She's just saying.

"The Alpha... that's like, the top dog?" Grimacing at that unintentional pun. "And I take it here that doesn't really mean much?" Kind of like a Guardian without anyone to guard.
semifreakingnormal: (you're the pulse)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-16 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiles when she grimaces. He's head all the puns by now, probably, intentional and not.

It takes a moment for him to answer, though, thoughtful. His instinct is to trust, but that instinct has very recently made life difficult not just for him, but for a lot of the people he cares most about. Still - he doesn't smell anything coming off her, no chemosignals intimating her intentions.

He didn't smell it on Theo, either. But he's not him if he cuts people off.

"Basically, yeah. Only my pack's not here, so it's like..." He can feel it, it's the way he felt when everything was falling apart, when no one even really noticed each other. They're not here, and he's weaker for it. "It's just a word, without them. I might as well be an omega. --That's," he adds, realizing she probably doesn't know, "a werewolf who has no pack. Just on their own."
littledhampir: ♫ I'll describe the way I feel Weeping wounds that never heal. (Lets try some sheer honesty.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-17 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Weirdly, she does get it, or at least thinks she does. Rose didn’t have a pack, but she had a Lissa. The bond. Here it was like there was this black spot in her head where her thoughts used to hum… Though Rose is less inclined to admit that to a perfect stranger. It wasn’t a question of trust so much as, even Rose knew that explaining you really did have voices in your head after so flippantly joking about it with a stranger? If she thought the drink guy looked at her like she was nuts…

“Which, I’m guessing is a bad thing.” A lonely thing at least, she can understand that too. “Still, you can freak out unsuspecting randoms by making your eyes flash red.” Offering up a weak half smile as she shoots for levity in the hope it will rub off.

“Sorry… about that, by the way.” Appropriately sheepish about her near freakout. “Where I’m from? Red eyes? It goes hand in hand with things that try to kill me. Though they’re usually red all the time, not that… glowy thing yours do.”
semifreakingnormal: (you're my rugged heart)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-18 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Scott has gotten really, really used to thinks that seem insane just being every day. Sleepwalking graduated to Dread Doctors and Hellhounds and chimeras and if all of that is real, how can he really look askance at any of it?

He nods in confirmation: once he thought being an omega was fine, but that lasted maybe ten minutes, you know, right up until he watched Gerard literally cut one in half. Scott does, at least, have the grace to look abashed.

"It's okay, I'm sorry. I wasn't thinking, I just thought maybe you were - like, that we're from the same place." But he doesn't know anything with red eyes all the time, and he didn't know what a dhampir was, so that hope is slipping out the window.

"Glowy? I guess they are, kinda...What are they? The things...people? That are after you."
littledhampir: ♫ Honesty is hardly ever heard And mostly what I need from you (Now comes the truth.)

[personal profile] littledhampir 2018-09-18 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
“Montana?” The hint of a grin playing at the corner of her mouth. She gets what he means, same world? She’d paid enough attention since waking up here to catch onto how things worked; people all from worlds that were all considered ‘modern day earth’, but there were little differences along the way.

“I mean, it is possible.” Just because she’d never seen a Werewolf before, didn’t mean they didn’t exist in her world. “The Moroi keep something of a low profile.” The understatement of the century. Rose honestly believed that some Moroi went their whole lives without ever meeting another human. Well, not one that wasn’t a feeder anyway.

“Strigoi.” Knowing full well that word would been about as much as Dhampir or Moroi had. “Vampires, just… not the good kind. Immortal. Super fast. Super strong. Big on the whole, random acts of murder.” For as flippant as she’s being, there’s something in her eyes that gives her away. She can act as casual as she likes about The Strigoi, but she’d fought them and she knew they were no laughing matter.

“They’re not really people… not anymore, anyway.” And they weren’t so much after her as anyone that made a decent meal, but Rose had done enough damage recently to propel herself to the top of their most wanted list and even if they didn’t know who she was? She didn’t know a Strigoi that would settle for snacking on a human when they could have a Dhampir instead.
semifreakingnormal: (you're the pulse)

[personal profile] semifreakingnormal 2018-09-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
He smiles, shrugging one shoulder. She gets what he means, that's the important part. The whole different worlds thing is still a lot for him to swallow - and really, he should be used to rolling with the insane by now, but here he is. "Yeah, but I feel like if vampires are a thing, they'd have showed up back home by now." The Nematon was kind of a beacon for all things supernatural, and really, he has to assume that a dhampir is pretty supernatural.

Scott listens while she explains, and it's - well, her eyes do give it away. He knows the feeling: Stiles is flip about so many things that terrify him, and Scott has learned to play things down so as not to terrify his pack. So he nods, solemn and considering.

"They sound terrible. Scouts honor, not one of them."
