It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant. Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

II. END IN THE DISCORD
III. TABLE IT FOR LATER
discord –
the boy on the train had started to do some research but she hadn't had the attention span for it then and she certainly doesn't now. so she enters herself in the lottery to find a partner and – finds herself surprised and ... somewhat relieved to see that she's with another dom. rey. nice name.
she opens her mouth to say hello and shuts it swiftly with an amused little grin on ruby lips. ]
Well. Hi then. I'm Ivy. [ she unfolds her arms from over her keyhole dress and smiles more genuinely. ]
no subject
As though they owed her something, simply because of a designation Rey hadn't asked for. She grapples with that, unused to that power — and made more uncomfortable with it the more she has to confront her new status, guilt churning in her gut at the guarantee of her freedom at the expense of countless others.
The Resistance wouldn't stand for it. A galaxy as warped and oppressed as this is what they've been fighting against, but it's easier to banish that thought at Ivy's amicable approach.
Tentatively, she smiles back, a thin-lipped expression that's faintly warmer, less uncomfortable. Something about the other woman is ... warm, approachable. Nothing like some of the stern citizens she's witnessed. ]
Ivy. [ She repeats, rolling the name around her tongue for the first time, as if trying to commit that to memory. ] I'm Rey. Are you new to this?
[ While some part of her wants that understanding, to know she isn't alone as she fumbles through a new world, the other, more rational side hopes for a yes. Anything that has the potential to provide the answers she lacks. ]
no subject
she notices rey looking because she hasn't made an effort to hide her own curiosity. out of habit, she fixes her hair, brushing the long brown strands over her shoulders. ]
Yeah, I'm new like a lot of people here but I've been doing some exploring on my own. I think I have more questions than answers.
[ which is hard to admit, being so out of your own depth, but it's hard to fake your way through something when almost everything is foreign. she has always been comfortable in large crowds at least and seems at ease with the current situation here in autonomy, enjoying the free mingling and the bending of assigned roles. ]
So you wanted to talk?
no subject
Maybe we can figure it out together. [ It's an easy offer to make, to latch onto someone in a familiar situation and search out that camaraderie. Some might interpret it as a vague reassurance, but Rey looks sincerely hopeful. Naive, maybe, in assuming that companionship will make their situation less miserable, less puzzling. ]
Tell me about yourself. [ Not a demand, but a request. She looks to the spot beside her, an empty seat on the long cushioned sofa she occupies, and back to Ivy in invitation. It has nothing whatsoever to do with their situation, but it opens up the floor for adapting, in some small way, when she has already made the assumption that Ivy isn't here to run in the same circular discussion of trying to make sense of their surroundings. This, maybe, makes sense of them in a different way. ]

[Scott glances at her arm on his, eyes darting back to Miriam. The nudge makes him nod. He might not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's got an instinct for getting people out of trouble, especially when it's not deadly.]
Yep. Sorry. Already decided.
[He shifts his arm so it looks a little less like she grabbed the first stranger she found and then immediately turns and directs them away. There's a tattoo down his throat whose existence he keeps forgetting, but he wouldn't know how to behave any differently if he remembered it.]
I'm Scott.
[He says it quietly, even though he's pretty sure they're out of earshot.]

No wonder Miriam had presented very little argument against Rey's choice. Still, she has to wonder if he's felt obligated to step in, knowing the expectations of his role. She's unnerved by it, admittedly, but he doesn't appear — or feel, from what she can sense of him — upset. ]
Rey. [ She offers, pulling a face as they pass another display of the same variety. ] I'm not looking for an actual demonstration. I'd rather you didn't do ... [ Bewildered, she glances at another on the ground, trying desperately to rearrange themselves into a table of sorts. ] That.
[ It needs to be said, at any rate, that she isn't truly demanding anything from him. ]
no subject
Good, cause, uh - me neither.
[He at least has the presence of mind to keep his voice low, eyes casting about to make sure they're not being listened in on - well, by anyone human, anyway. He can smell how unsettled she is by all of this, and though he feels like he should offer a comforting word, he can't think of one, and is selfishly glad that he's not alone in being weirded out by this whole thing.]
It's okay, I'm glad you grabbed me. Now I don't have to worry about her coming after me.

[ She's still supervising them, after all, when Rey spares a glance over her shoulder. Unnerving, but not so discomforting that she locks up again and searches for an escape. It's reckless, but she won't shy from breaking boundaries and their restrictions, and Miriam has little to support her suspicions other than an awkward, brief conversation.
Most of her muscles have relaxed, tension gradually seeping out. Not all; their atmosphere doesn't allow for it with the wariness it has evoked in her, but enough that her lips twitch and her eyes crinkle, the faintest hint of amusement before she somberly informs him, ] But you're safe with me. You can stick by my side until all of this is over.

[That's really all Kairi can say as she watches what's happening as well. She's never been enslaved, or had to bend to anyone else's will, but she's been kidnapped a couple times and one of her friends got possessed, which was definitely bad enough. She can't imagine something like this... and doing it voluntarily? It's so far beyond her ability to figure out that it's laughable.]
Honestly I'm not sure if I'm more confused or horrified by all this, so I hope you're not expecting anything too insightful.

[ Not from the woman next to her, at any rate. If nothing else, she looks as lost as Rey is, and just as bewildered by the turn of events. There's solidarity in that, even if she finds herself disappointed at the lack of answers they have, and increasingly uncomfortable with the displays of paired partners on the train.
Nearly all of them have taken to kneeling, and those that haven't have been corrected with a firm hand. Rey looks away from it, gaze hardening, and then to Kairi with a softer glance. ] I take it you've never seen anything like it.

[If nothing else, that had at least been for a purpose. A horrible purpose that needed to be stopped, but at least there'd been a goal in mind. This, as far as she can tell, is just for the fun of it and to keep the submissives "in their place".]
I. (Hope you don't mind!)
How do you think they plan to make us?
[He's almost absurdly grateful that she spoke up, despite the decidedly more Core World accent--that probably had a lot less meaning here than at home, anyway. Still, despite his discomfort, his voice is low and even, as he maintains the discipline of training and hard work. There's no point in the struggles of the past few years if he falls apart now. Still. There's a hint of an actual question, not the rhetorical, in his comment.]
it's definitely more than okay! i'm super pleased to be threading with a luke, ngl
How. It isn't a question of if or even when, but the method they'll implement. Not for the first time, she endures that sinking dread in the pit of her stomach, confronted with the knowledge that they will be expected to obey.
She hasn't considered the consequences of not abiding by their rules, only the repercussions of following them. It speaks to her recklessness, and the ferocity of her own vigorous refusal, that she hasn't taken it well and truly into consideration until now. ] I don't know. [ Rey admits more quietly, though there's a note of dismay to it, knowing she can't provide any solid answer. ] But let them try. I don't plan on forcing anyone to obey me.
cool, cool, I love messing with continuity!
I very much doubt they could force you to do anything. [He speaks quietly, with a hint of earnestness--he believes what he's saying.] I'm simply wondering... what happens next?
i'm always game for timey wimey shenanigans. ❤
[ Orientation's emphasis on Sexual Liberation Unblocking Treatment Centers hadn't been promising. They can dress it up all they'd like, but she recognizes it for what it is: a prettier, gentler phrasing for coercing them into participating. ]
I don't know what happens next. [ She admits, softer in its uncertainty. The Resistance had been looking to her the same way this stranger seems to rely on her for answers she can't give, direction she doesn't quite have. Silent for a few more moments, she finally provides, ] We find a way to survive.
[ In the end, that's what it comes down to. Jakku had ingrained that lesson into her, taught her adaptability, how to endure; much as she doesn't enjoy their current circumstances, she has survived worse. ]

[ She can feel the nervousness pouring off of Rey, so Poppy's not about to challenge it. Even if she weren't a telepath with an endless loop of Rey's thoughts and doubts as they surface, she'd be able to sense it.
There's no blame to be found there. After all, it's that sort of place. She'd never been to a club like this before arriving here, but she'd heard of them, and this is what they were for. Prying open people's uncomfortable places, making them radically vulnerable.
It's easy to be submissive. Natural, even. Telepathy makes it easier, and she finds that what they're asking of her is really, well, what she'd already been doing for herself. Making other people happy. ]
It's pretty loud out there, huh?
[ That's one of the thoughts she grasps onto from the surface of Rey's mind. She says it with a wry ease that makes it sound like her own observation. ]
Lots of people.
no subject
In place of wariness, she relaxes at the easy agreement Poppy provides, though there's a certain note of consternation while Rey fixes her eyes on Poppy's mark. Her compassion is not so encompassing that she's inclined to take the first submissive she's spoken with home with her, but she isn't unsympathetic. The sight of such a brand remains uncomfortable, and she glances away a moment afterward, selfishly grateful she hasn't been thrust in that position.
It doesn't erase the discomfort of her own, but she doesn't linger long on self-reflection, refusing it as it creeps up on her. ]
It is. [ She admits, eyes flickering to the door that connects back to the main room. ] But it's safe.
[ Safer, at the least. Freer, with their designations shed, and expectations with it. ]
Have you done this before?
[ 'This' isn't clear. Honestly, she could very well mean any of it. The lottery meeting, fitting into a role, the methods themselves — the answer will give some clear distinction if Poppy is like her, newly introduced to the situation, or used to such a society. Already integrated into it. ]
no subject
[ She says this because she gets the sense that Rey is aching for some camaraderie, not a guide. In that way, it leaves Poppy open to being a little honest. ]
What do you mean 'safe'?
[ She feels safest when expectations and rules are clear and predictable; she hasn't felt safe since winding up here, let alone in this place. It's upending what she's understood about everyone else. ]
no subject
Away from their rules. [ And the consequences that come from defying them, or stumbling in one's role in such a way that would lead to being dragged to an 'treatment center'. Adaptation is key for their survival, yes, but not at the sake of one's self. It's a large assumption to assume that Poppy and the others are like her, discomforted by the way the society seems to operate with all of its disparities. ] We're free, if only for awhile.
[ 'Safe,' then, or as safe as one can be when their world has gone topsy-turvy. ]

[ He knew that voice anywhere. She wasn't addressing him, talking to someone else with her back to him. Finn had been lost in this new setting yet finding that maybe it was his place after all. He'd been a coward enough times, nearly losing Rey once already because of it. Having her here changed things for him. He didn't know if it'd change anything for her. How long had it been since she'd seen him last?
Instincts had him hold back from pulling her into a hug, unsure how she was viewing him in this setting. ]

Familiar, at that. Safe in an unknown environment. It's in poor manners, but manners have never been a concern for Rey, the way she shifts her attention immediately — stands without warning, shocked into stillness for only a moment, before she swings her arms over Finn. The partner she's been assigned stares, lost, but Rey doesn't take any note of it. ]
You're here. [ Awe remains there, like she can't quite believe she's been so fortunate as to find him. ] You're really here.

I...I don't know what happened... I'd been talking to Chewie and heading to you when... when suddenly I was here, having to choose what door. It didn't even move. I had to figure out how to open it.
[ Hopefully she understood all of that. Finn hadn't released her to say it. ]

If they do they haven't done their research. [And given that the people in charge have kidnapped them in some form, Poe assumes they know something of who the people they stole away are. He turns his head to meet her gaze before looking back out the window at the increasingly disturbing scenes zipping by.]
We have to do something about this.
