It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant. Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

WILDCARD + OOC NOTE;
Lies Travel In Company
[The young woman tore her gaze away from the windows, what she'd seen of the upper city made her skin prickle with the familiarity of staring up through a plate at the barest glimpse of sky reflected off of glass and steel skyscrapers. The Up was so lovely it triggered a deep-seated urge to explore, all the while a nagging feeling plucked at her in warning. Warning her of what, she wasn't sure at all.
A strange hollow feeling had settled in her ribs, crowding her heart and leaving her with a flurry of emotions that she wasn't certain had names. Or if they did, they were ones she didn't know. So instead, she just offered the young elezen a sweet smile, her head tilting in a way that sent a thick ringlet of hair spilling over her shoulder. Waking up to this place had not been her idea of a grand time no matter how nice the train ride or the view was. The fact that she'd woken up at all was another slurry of mixed feelings she'd have to save for later.]
If we're going to be honest, I don't know what to think. I do know I've had more than a lifetime's worth of being a science experiment, I was really hoping not to do it again anytime soon.
[Still, Alisae was only slightly shorter than Aerith, but the flowergirl couldn't help but feel her fingertips prickle with worry as her brows pinched.]
Are you doing alright? It all seems to be a bit much to be hit with all at once.
no subject
well, unsettled is a word that comes to mind. terrified, as well. but they must move forward, mustn't they? ]
That is surely an understatement if I have ever heard one.
[ she says, wearily, settling back into her seat with a low sigh. ]
I am as well as can be expected, given..
[ a general gesture to.. everything. ]
no subject
Well, I figure it's better to be polite when you first start talking to someone. Can't start a new meeting off by asking people to divulge their dirty secrets.
[Nodding, the she sighs. Normally she'd offer a hug at a time like this, but wasn't certain if that would be appropriate here. Normally people didn't go about offering strangers embraces, after all.]
Given that we're trapped in a society with heavily divided social classes that's somehow tied to unmentionable bedroom activities? Mmm.
[She nods, her head resting against the polished steel and glass behind her head. The hand that had covered her mouth now flaps towards the windows, her heavy bracelets chiming with the gesture before her arm falls again, hands clasped in her lap.]
Aside from that last part, it's a bit too much like home for comfort for me. Which is why I've got the constant deja vu feeling.
no subject
even if it is concerning.. um.. bedroom activities!! the tips of her ears burn a warm pink. ]
Aye, I've some familiarity with it myself.
[ people are people, she supposes.. where there are structured societies, there are divides, ever are people wont to consider themselves better than others, to place themselves above. some cases are far worse than others, but it seems a heartbreakingly inescapable thing. ]
I suppose there's nothing for it but to endure it, for the nonce.

LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY
The tension in the young woman at his side had been impossible to miss, but when she hadn't seem interested in striking up a conversation until she sorted out her own thoughts, Sinbad had let her be, granting her as much privacy as he could, when they were seated side by side as they were.
When she does finally speak up at last, however, he glances down at her and gives her warm, but very wry smile. ]
That is a very loaded question at the moment, Miss. There is quite a lot to wrap one's head around, after all.

[ even alisaie, of prodigal mind, can hardly begin to take it all in, to truly digest it. it feels like a strange, faroff dream, and the circumstances of her arrival have not helped to dispel that feeling. that room, its doors.. she could hardly keep her eyes open, there, it had felt so surreal, like space and time warped all around her, her cognizance available to her only in flickers and drips.
now, she feels far more herself again, but that is less comfort than one might think. the more awake and aware she feels, the far less likely it becomes that this is some simple fever dream. would that they could be so lucky.
settling back into her seat, alisaie crosses her arms over her abdomen, exhaling a thin sigh. ]
Still, you must have some opinion. [ she herself has many.. ] You seem quite comfortable. Is this familiar to you?

[ He gives a thoughtful pause, his gaze drifting around the train once more to settle on where the Submissive kneels for their Dominant, seemingly content and happy to be doing so. Real, or a show for their benefit? ]
If this society works like this, that is.

her eyes follow his, briefly, to the pair he watches. ]
Have you been given reason to suspect otherwise?

She is an elf, though, and that relaxes him somewhat. He's gotten used to spending time with the other races, but he'll always be most comfortable around other elves.
When he turns to look at her she can more clearly see that the arm on the other side ends at its elbow. Right now, having just arrived himself, the sleeve is pinned up to where the arm ends.]
Are you looking for my honest opinion? Because I'm certain it's bound to be unpopular.

[ at last, alisaie draws away from the picturesque window scene to settle back into her seat, exhaling in a weary gust. her gaze flickers over him, briefly, though she seems far less interested in his missing limb than all the rest of him - the ears, particularly. he is the first of her kind that she has seen here; whether that has any meaning, or is completely random, she cannot hope to know.
nevertheless. ]
You will find that I appreciate honesty far more than most.

I think any society that views slavery as normal has a very dark core. The corruption here is unsettling and the thought they expect us to participate is disgusting.
no subject
I could not agree more.
[ her tone says it all, clipped and hard. ]
They hardly bother to conceal the rot, I can only imagine that this has been their normal for quite some time.

lies lies lies etc.;
Her voice does bring his steps to a halt before he considers how to reply. ]
If I may be a bit honest, it is a troubling state of affairs. I have been studying the intricacies of this caste system, yet the finer points still elude me. It would seem such a system would be tenuous at best, yet they have managed to maintain it for quite a length of time without any major rebellions.
[ Even Ishgard's theocracy had collapsed beneath the weight of its own corruption. He finds it difficult to believe that everything here is as orderly as it appears on the outside. ]
I have many questions yet no knowledge at the moment of who to address them to.
[ There must be an imperator or some ruling body in place. They could not have merely come here as a result of some malfunction or mere chance. ]
no subject
ideally, she would find only strangers here. better that no others she knows or cares for be stuck in a place like this, subjected to such a lifestyle, but she is not without fault, and misery does so love company. to know that she is not entirely alone in this godsforsaken place is a comfort, though it shames her to be glad for another's suffering. ]
People are loathe to change what is normal for them, even should that lifestyle be painful or demeaning.
[ he knows that more than most, she is sure, for how ishgard had all but depended upon its social structure for so many, many long years. nevertheless, a weary smile breaks across her features. ]
.. 'tis good to see a familiar face, ser.
discord
After entering Autonomy, Kamui spends most of his time plainly observing people. He's coincidentally seated beside this young girl who sticks out way too much. This place is turning his stomach more and more. They'd go so far to abduct someone as small as her? In another world, these sick people wouldn't have been able to get away with it. He sighs to himself, trying to contain the boiling anger once again rising within him. It's been so hard to endure that.
She seems to be waiting for someone. He hopes that she's trying to keep herself out of trouble, but in a location like this... that's unlikely. ]
no subject
all right, it is definitely almost always her own fault. whether trouble finds her or she finds trouble is irrelevant, however; she's already here, and there seems to be no going back, if the citizenry is to be believed, which is.. admittedly dubious. how can they not know where their leader is? how can they not know how people are arriving here, or how they can be sent home again?
it is only one of very many mysteries, it would seem. more pressingly, she is more than aware of the weight of someone's eyes upon her, and in a place like this, that is more than a little concerning. eyes narrowed, alisaie cuts her gaze toward the one beside her. ]
- may I help you?
no subject
[ In the end, despite his thoughts, they mean nothing. Kamui can't do anything about any of this, and he especially can't tell the girl what to do. He has no reason to as they're both strangers to each other and lead their own lives. Surely she has reason to be here, he can only hope it's because no one has ill intentions for her. Even if it was, who is he to interfere? He can't compromise the two of them. This is the way life runs here, regardless of how disgusting it is.
Keeping to himself, Kamui looks elsewhere as he continues to observe the people around him. He hasn't learned much either honestly, more of these so-called rebels who desire their justice would rather bed each other than do anything productive. It's disappointing. But perhaps it's because they're actually too afraid to take the first step, so they're being all over each other for now, tending to each other's wounds.
Or perhaps his initial thought is correct and this is all a staged setup; if so, then they're actually the ones being watched. In any case, as long as they don't do anything suspicious, nobody will be able to point a finger at them or condemn them. He plans to continue watching for a while, maybe even through the upcoming days as well. Eventually, he hopes something will come up, especially if the rebels are not just all talk. ]
... Actually.
[ He takes a small peek at her neck area, just to see if she's marked. Seems she's not, which betters her situation at least. But is it because she's a designated Dom or is it because she's too young to be marked? ]
Are you a local?
no subject
well, no, she likely won't. but still. she's grateful for it when he speaks again, if only because she has no idea where to begin, how to go about finding her way out of this place. from the look of it thus far, there is no easy path, and she is without allies in this place, lost, without so much as a single clue as to where to direct her steps. mayhaps he will know something of value.
first, however, she looks surprised, the tips of her ears burning hot. ]
No -

end in the discord;
Alisaie Leveilleur, I presume?
[ He even pronounces it correctly. Either he's familiar with French or he's asked around. Either way, Jade seems to be sure he's found the right person, because he doesn't wait for an answer, but asks with the same affable lift to his voice. ]
Are you looking to be a Dominant or Submissive tonight?
what a creep
also wow he's fluent in fantasy elf french, wild
lifting her eyes from her device, alisaie studies his face openly for a few moments, before folding it up and slipping it back into her pocket(?). ]
Whatever will buy me useful information. Are you a citizen?
if only there were someone responsible around to keep him in line
There goes his chance at research through this lottery, though, since Alisaie is just as newly brought in and clueless as he is. Really, Jade should thank her and dismiss himself at that, find someone more useful. But that would be rude! So he decides to have fun with her instead. ]
I am, though it doesn't matter inside these walls. We're all whomever we want to be in Autonomy, at least until sunrise, or until someone forgets to use their safe word.
[ Does Jade actually know about safe words or is he bullshitting that too. Only one way to find out, and Jade is hedging his bets that it'll come to that. How badly does Alisaie want answers? ]
What information are you looking to buy?

He was elegantly tall and lean-framed, with pale gold hair which fell bone-straight down his back, smooth as silk and faintly radiant. When the tour walked, he moved with staglike grace, picking his way in utter quiet, watchful and calm. Her voice broke the silence, and he lowered his chin in an abbreviated bow, as a knight addressing a fine lady. ]
On my honor, I find it vile. Detestable.
But... I am glad, at least, that they did not deign to so dishonor so fine a lady of the Aos Síde with the brand of one bound to be powerless. I have only heard tales, but you have the look of a Leanan Sídhe. Surely you shall have no lack of individuals content to bend a knee to you for the blessing of your attention.

but this place, this day, is hardly normal. she's distracted, to say the very least, uneasy, consumed by her thoughts, and if she feels as if she's being watched, she feels as if she is being watched by everyone, eyes both seen and unseen. the itch beneath her skin is unceasing.
at any rate, his answer is.. entirely unexpected, given the way her face lights up with a flush, her eyebrows rising to her hairline. ]
I - I-I know not what you mean, but I've no desire to bend any knees.
[ and she's surely never been so popular as he might be suggesting. on the contrary, in fact.. either way, her face is on fire!! ]
Answers, and a way home, are all I ask for.
no subject
If what we've been told thus far is anything to judge by, a way home may be a long time coming... if it comes at all.
[ His pale eyes search her face, pensive. ]
But given the vaunted position they grant you, you may be better-placed than many to find the answers you seek. I wish you the best of it, Lady, truly.
