« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

[ this is why jack has no real friends, it would require things like shenanigans and casual touching and that's just not okay. also, admitting to feelings and expressing affection and caring about things beyond your own well-being. it's complicated. anyway.

this dude looks like a super model decided to change jobs to a beat cop but can't quiet get that posturing habit under control, staring him down like he ought to be taking pictures. jack is a difficult individual to intimidate, so despite his hugeness and attractiveness, what Steve gets for it is less than ideal. ]
Because I have better things to do, and, you're kind of a dick.

[ karma, or whoever is keeping cosmic score, please let the record reflect: jack didn't start it. ]

Jack.

kind of a dick. no one calls him that except... well, except bucky, really. maybe that's something the universe just imbues these genes with, the ability to look at the shining beacon of truth and justice that is steve rogers and see all the places that light doesn't touch.

Jack. I'm Steve.

steve who is not moving, who isn't giving jack an opportunity to leave. his stance has relaxed, somewhat, paradoxically put at ease by that face calling him a dick, but he's here for answers, and he'd like to get them.

When did you two meet?

That's nice, I didn't ask. [ yeah, jack's not missing the part where, while steve's no longer holding him to a way, he is still blocking his means of escape, and jack's not nearly so kind as to give the benefit of the doubt to steve that he might not realize he's doing it. ]

Yesterday. Here.

[ because it's seeming that steve's bent on crowding him in until he gets a full report on this, jack sighs and gives a bit more. but standing around looking impassable hasn't stopped jack from shoving right past people before. ]

He did about the same thing you did. We talked. Compared life bullet points and remembered birthmarks. All we have in common is identical DNA, and time served in armed forces. Beyond that, we have nothing, and your friend isn't interested in discussing it with anyone outside ourselves.

Move.

drily,All you have in common.

because identical dna's not that impressive, really. or worrying. or indicative of something deeply unfortunate that needs to be looked further into. but jack has answered his question, and steve doesn't want to start a fight — if jack's going to be here, he wants them to be on okay terms, at least, okay enough that steve can keep an eye on him without jack making it an issue. something tells him submissives accused of stalking dominants don't get much in the way of a fair trial, here.

steve steps to the side, giving jack the freedom to move wherever he likes, even to leave the alley entirely if that's what he wants.

Aside from the obvious, clearly.

[ thankfully, steve moves, and jack is getting himself out of the corner his body had put him in immediately. it probably looks like he's just going to bolt down the street and be done with this. but, he doesn't. just steps out enough that he has some air, and has some space, plenty enough to escape Steve if he wants to. ]

What I mean is there's nothing else either of us remember that connects us. [ aside from the military experience. ] We aren't similar like twins are - we're identical like clones are. How different universes factor into that, or if someone did something to make this happen, I don't know.

We'd need someone with a lot more experience than a couple soldiers.

it doesn't escape steve's notice that jack has put himself in prime position to flee, should he feel it necessary, and that checks out with jack's apparent military history. he doesn't make any moves to get closer, just shifts so he's facing jack, and listens, nodding along.

And neither of you trust whoever's in charge here to see what they have to say.

it's not a question, and there's no judgment behind it — steve trusts bucky's judgment, after all, if bucky doesn't want to talk about this with anyone upside, there's a good reason for it. hell, given the state of this place, steve doesn't really feel given to talking with any of the natives, either. it does limit them somewhat, but they aren't the only liers who arrived, right.

How much do you care about getting to the bottom of this?
cicatrize: (Default)

[personal profile] cicatrize 2018-09-20 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ the statement is rhetorical, but jack shakes his head anyway - no, they don't really trust those in charge to ask them. but, there are some doubts he has, and jack pauses, lips parted, for a moment, before actually voicing them. ]

They processed us when we first came into the city. They have to know we're here, so it isn't an issue of informing them of something they don't know about. But still...

[ both of them are too paranoid, too distrusting. just because jack can't pinpoint exactly what the risk would be, doesn't mean there isn't one. best to play it safe. his arms cross at his chest, and the question steve asks is fairly straight forward. he's sure bucky cares a lot about knowing. to jack, well, on the one hand, he it hasn't effected anything yet. on the other, how could it not? that, and, the creeping fear that's started since he noticed he was the younger of the two of them - ]

If I'm someone's clone, I want to know, and I want to know why. [ and how much of what's currently in his head is fabrication. ]
ex_serum683: SHITHOUSE (✪|SIXTY  SEVEN.)

[personal profile] ex_serum683 2018-09-20 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
that response earns a decisive nod, and steve's eyes shift from jack's face to the concrete between them, considering. if jack hadn't been interested in learning why he and bucky looked the same, he wouldn't have made any sort of fuss over it, wouldn't have pushed, would have gone to bucky and let that be that — but he wants to know, and figuring it out's going to be a difficult job without giving away what information they're after.

he should know about hydra. the moment steve has the thought, he hates it, because it's not his story to tell — but if there's even a chance they could be involved, jack should be made aware.

there's a long pause as steve measures out what he wants to say, and then he looks back up at jack.

There's an organization where Bucky and I are from that could have been involved. HYDRA. They were — ❰ another pause, shorter, as steve breathes sharply out his nose, ❱ — are extremely experimental, riding the line between science and mysticism. If you're a clone, I'd bet they're at the bottom of it.

The ones that put the arm on him. [ They'd discussed it. Honestly, had Bucky been anyone besides a POW, Jack wouldn't have nearly the level of respect for him as he does. Not a lot definitively means much to Jack, but military service and sacrifice is immense. From someone who's seen the hell of war, he can imagine what terror would come with something like that, and Bucky's a fucking hardass for surviving it. ]

He mentioned they'd done genetic experiments, but nothing incredibly specific. [ Underneath the arm that's overlapping the other, jack's digging a thumbnail underneath the edge of a fingernail, a nervous tick, but it's helping him keep his head on straight right now. ] Do the words Gilboa, Shiloh or Silas mean anything to you?

[ making a clone would be one thing, but fabricating an entire separate world to put inside that clone's head? what's the point of that, what's the significance in what they gave him? then, getting free from them couldn't be as simple as showing up in this place. letting the clone and the original meet up, and unravel this? what's the strategy there?

christ, he's almost thinking like it's a foregone conclusion, and that's doing horrible things to Jack's mind right now. he needs something to disprove this, quickly, before he loses his shit. ]

well, at least steve isn't the only one who's brought up hydra. that bucky did it himself assuages some of the guilt steve's feeling for bringing it up, but... they need to talk about this. they need to figure out what to say and what to not, how much they want to invest in jack and how far away they want to hold him. concerns for another time.

There's a Mount Gilboa in the Bible. Shiloh, too, there's a city by that name.

not that steve remembers the old testament all that well — he hasn't read it since before the serum amplified his memory, and his faith's been on shaky ground recently. most of what he remembers is in latin, masses spent at his mother's side, kneeling and praying and and also with you.

not even the catholic church was spared the ravages of time, and isn't that just typical.

I won't tell you any more than Bucky did. ❰ not can't as in doesn't have the information, won't as in that's his best friend and he's not saying any more than bucky wants said. ❱ If you want specifics, you'll have to ask for them from him. But otherwise —

this is going to be taken the wrong way, steve can feel it in his bones. ah, well. he pulls his little notebook of lists out of his pocket, flips to a blank page, and writes down his number.

You need anything, you have questions. ❰ steve tears the page out and holds it out to jack. ❱ You can come to me.

Bible?

[ What Steve says is the first anyone in this world has heard of anything from where Jack came from, and that terrifies him, because he'd thought coming here erased it. Sure, the situation with Bucky is scary, it's confusing, and it's had his head spinning, but Jack sees Shiloh in his nightmares now.

Bucky couldn't so much as place the words. Steve knows exactly what they are.

As Steve's talking about the rest of it - Hydra, writing his address down, something Jack would normally be making a crack about - Jack's mind is somewhere else. He hears it, takes the paper and looks over the address, but it could be written in a foreign language for all he's able to truly focus on it.

As it winds down, and Steve sounds like he's about to part ways, Jack reaches out a hand, not close enough to touch but enough to signal a pause. ]

Wait — Shiloh's my city, the country is Gilboa. [ He pauses, and this is probably the first genuine emotion that's made it past Jack's practiced masks since this conversation started - fear. ] I'm Silas Benjamin's son.

[ and he's desperately hoping that doesn't mean the same thing to Steve that it means to the Royal Guard in Shiloh. ]

What's the Bible?
