It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant. Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well! Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |

He nods at her assessment that the new people don't seem very keen on the culture here. That's pretty much what he had thought too. Otherwise a place like this club wouldn't be as popular as it is.
"Yeah! Mostly with the people who were brought in though. It's weird. You'd think that the barriers between worlds would stop this sort of thing from happening. Maybe they're using the darkness?" He never really understood how the dark corridors worked. He wished he could contact Riku and ask about it.
"And the people who are of this world are..." He trails off. Not sure how describe them. He's been to so many different worlds with such varied and interesting people and he's never had trouble before relating to them. It's uncomfortable in a way he's never experienced before.
"But hey!" he continues, switching between dwelling and being pleased in a second. "We're together now! We can see if we can help."
no subject
"The people here grew up with this being... well, normal. It's no wonder we can't really understand them." Seriously, what does something like that do to a person? Growing up in a place like this, locked into one of these two roles from birth, the idea's terrifying to her.
"At the very least we can watch out for each other. We'll worry about changing things around here once we know a little more. Meantime..."
She takes his hand and glances around, eyes falling on a booth a little further away from the floor. "C'mon, let's sit down before we get trampled."
no subject
"Have you seen anyone else we know?" he asks as they walk back towards where she was sitting. There's a hopeful note to his voice that probably tells her there is one particular silver-haired recently named Keyblade Master he has in mind.
no subject
Riku'd probably follow them around like some sort of guard dog, but honestly, in a place like this she wouldn't blame him. She might even appreciate it.
"Wanna bet he'd have a mark on his face, just to ruin whatever dignity he's got left?" She's trying to joke. Trying very hard.
no subject
Almost anyway. Riku had already had to deal with one person trying to dominate him, he didn't need anyone else trying it. Whatever happened to that person would be their own fault.
no subject
"Anyway, I might not have seen him, but I did encounter a couple keyblade wielders here." And there's a little tidbit to draw his focus on something other than missing the last part of their trio. She totally understands worrying, but it's not as if there's anything they can do about it.
no subject
"You did?! Was it the King? What did they look like?" And he spins a bit to look out to the crowd as if her description will enable him to find them.
no subject
"Woah, easy Sora. No, it wasn't the King." And now she's imagining Mickey here, and that's just... actually kind of disturbing. Seriously something about that idea seems incredibly wrong.
So, she's gonna move on from that thought process now... "I met one on the train. She was wrapped up in robes and wore a mask. Her name was Invi, and, get this. She apparently comes from before the Keyblade War."
no subject
When she described someone with a mask and a robe, though, all he can think about is the Organization. He knows not everyone in a robe is bad, Riku and the King both wore them too, but that's just where his mind kind of goes.
The Keyblade War is the real thing that gets his attention, though. He doesn't really have a good grasp on that history for himself. He knows it's Important, but it hadn't factored heavily into his own adventures. He has only the vaguest idea of what that would mean.
"Wait... isn't that from like... thousands of years ago? Wouldn't that make them really old?"
no subject
"Apparently for her, the War hasn't happened yet. In fact she's trying to prevent it... which I guess means she's kinda doomed to fail. Which sucks. I mean seriously, imagine the world if the War had never taken off."
Then again, could it really have been held off for thousands of years?
no subject
He still isn't very clear on how all of that happened, but he does remember the story that he heard from the vision of her childhood, about how the war made things fall apart.
He tried to imagine a place where he could visit his friends across all the different worlds without needing a ship or portals. It sounded kind of wonderful.
no subject
But it's also kind of a cool idea. Their raft might have actually worked in a world like that.
no subject
"But..." he starts, as he re-thinks that idea. "That would mean this world would be a part of it all too, wouldn't it?" That idea was much less fun. He didn't want any of his friends marked by this place.
"Maybe we shouldn't think too much about it."
no subject
"Probably shouldn't think too hard about what Heartless on this world would look like either." Why... why did she say that out loud? She couldn't really help thinking it, but she should have kept it to herself.
no subject
"Oh, man, Kairi," he whines a bit as he puts his head in his hands and rests his elbows on the table. It's clear that is exactly all his mind is pre-occupied with now.
no subject
"But I mean, these people can clearly fiddle around with something that brings people in from other worlds, so... hopefully they can keep things out, too. Probably not something we need to worry about."
Unless, of course, they're fiddling around with the darkness and it's going to slip their grip, which wouldn't be at all surprising... but she actually doesn't mention that out loud. One slip-up is bad enough.
no subject
At least if the Heartless were here he would have some idea of what to do. Fighting them helps people and makes sense. Nothing about this world makes sense to him at all.
Except, now he knows she's here. She always makes sense.
"Hey! I know how you can make up for putting that into my head!" He brightens then, lifting up his head and grinning at her.
"Dance with me."
no subject
Kairi's eyes flicker out to the floor, though, and she looks a little apprehensive. "I mean, I wouldn't mind, but that floor looks a little... crazy."
Seriously, the way people are bouncing, bumping, grinding all over the place, it's pretty intimidating trying to think about how to slip the two of them in there.
Still, she's already standing up. "You see any good spaces for just the two of us?"
no subject
"If we can't find a space, we'll make one. It will be fun! I promise."
no subject
"You're a lot more optimistic about us being able to do that than I am."
She sticks very close to him as they move closer to the press of bodies, ready to spring away as soon as some drunken partygoer blunders into them. Which she thinks is probably inevitable.
no subject
He likes that. He thrives on it. Being able to partake of it with her just makes everything feel worthwhile.
Plus, if things get too rowdy he'll be there to protect her. He's also pretty confident in his ability to do just that. Even without Riku around, he'll find a way to make sure she's safe, and give her moments where she can have a bit of fun.
When they get to the dance floor he resists his natural urge to just barrel right through to the center of it. He could probably handle that on his own, but with her, he wants a little more space so they can both enjoy themselves. Instead, he finds a spot towards the edge and then turns to face her.
There is an awkward moment where he isn't sure where to put his hands, but he settles on her waist. "Do you think this is okay?" he asks, leaning close to make sure she can hear him.
no subject
But she follows his lead, and they manage to make their way someplace where they've got a little space to themselves, which is honestly all they really need. She puts her hands on his shoulders and manages a smile. This does seem nice, even if she's not entirely certain how they're going to do this.
"I think we're good. Just try not to step on my feet." Honestly, that's probably a realistic concern for both of them.
no subject
"I'll be careful," he promises.
Then he starts to move. It's mostly just swaying at first, as he wants to give them both time to get used to the beat and how this music inspires them to move.
no subject
She moves with him, shifting around, her hips swaying back and forth, her feet tapping. The beat's much faster than she's ever danced before, and the bass is a lot stronger. Bit by bit, she's starting to speed up with it, her moves getting a little bouncier, her hips swaying side to side.
no subject
She was everything he wanted.
The only thing that could make it better would be if they had Riku with them too.
