It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. ... and you’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your high rise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. The weather is rather cold and icy.

The cold, icy winter weather has seen to it that there is an unfortunate interruption with the usual city tour for the newest arrivals to Duplicity. Some of the train tracks have a dangerous amount of ice coating them and sections of travel are now unavailable via train. City officials still believe that the tours are important to integrate new LIERs to Duplicity so they have organised personal walking tours held by current LIERs. New arrivals will be paired with their own tour guide; they can take the suggested path or take their barely dressed charge on a more ad-hoc tour. It might be considerate to let them change into something warmer first! Important landmarks and checkpoints like Fiddler’s Square, North Park, The Up and Down Courts, the People Zoo and of course S.L.U.T. need to be marked off on the tours but there have also been fun local stores which have set-ups for free samples and information booklets. What order and how people travel to them is up to them.

(CW: exhibitionism, voyeurism, dub/non-con) One of the stops along these new walking tours is a temporary educational art installation that has been set up to display and talk about the rich variety of kinks that are popular in Duplicity. Newcomers are invited to come inside the building, sit on the human furniture to watch and learn or volunteer to participate themselves. Each section has local LIERs and graduated citizens there to help walk those new to the program through the displays, explaining the appeal and draw of each kink. Live demonstrations or performance art are carried out by LIERs who have volunteered, been conscripted or are fulfilling a sentence that would normally land them in the People Zoo. They can and will ask anyone and everyone to step up and be part of the artwork themselves. Some of the displays set up will feature: Naked Submissives have been bound and posed with their bodies arched in visually pleasing positions. They are surrounded with candles burning around them and guests are invited to drip the hot wax across their bodies to add to the artwork that is their naked skin. Zap your lover or the volunteers with an electrical wand and discover the way it can make the skin tingle and muscles tense in just the right place at just the right moment. The image of cum dripping from a well used Submissive is considering something to appreciate visually so stations have been set up with glory holes and kneeling participants to have their faces and buttocks painted over the course of the day. A variety of whips, canes and paddles have been set out next to padded benches for Submissives to bend themselves over. The marks they leave are something to be proud of. No art display in Duplicity is complete without an ode to bondage, one room will be entirely devoted to participants being suspended from the ceiling, held in positions that will test their stamina and flexibility and leave the most gorgeous bruises. We encourage players not to limit themselves in regards to what is on display. There are many more kinks than the ones listed, and Duplicity considers all kinds of sexual acts a form of art. Photo taking is encouraged throughout the exhibition, especially when your own participation is concerned. If you missed the chance to do so, in the moment, you need not worry as the gift shop at the end of the gallery will have many different prints taken over the course of the exhibition available for purchase. Take home a keepsake of your first day in Duplicity.

(CW: exhibitionism) Winter does make it harder in Duplicity to enjoy all the pleasures of the flesh that could be on offer in the warmer months. Most who live in the city still need to wrap up with many layers when the weather turns so chilly. But that’s not saying that the city can’t find ways to help keep its residents in the mood. It will first be noticeable to those trying their hand at streaming or posting video footage onto the network. Regardless of a character's state of dress while recording, they will appear completely naked to those watching and no amount of covering up with more articles of material will change that. Others might see it as they set about on their first days getting used to the city’s layout, glancing into a shop window they will notice their own state of undress in their reflection. You might even see it in a particularly shiny bit of ice but no matter where you look, all reflective surfaces will show everyone in their birthday suits, naked as the day they were born.

(CW: exhibitionism, dubcon, drugging) In a bid to encourage individuals to get out and keep active despite the chilly weather, the city has transformed one of the large tennis courts in the Up into a makeshift outdoor skating rink. In the recreation building attached to the courts-turned-rink the change rooms have been outfitted for people to change into more appropriate clothing. There is also at the front of the building an area to rent skates. Many who get on the ice see no reason to keep apart, as many contracted couples can be seen holding hands or chasing each other as they skate. In the change rooms it isn’t uncommon to see a bit of hanky panky or people getting off at helping others in and out of their skates. There also seems to be a small hot chocolate stand set up inside the building where characters can buy a warm drink to sip on while taking a break from skating. The drink may leave those that consume it feeling especially warm and frisky, with perhaps a bit of extra energy they need to burn off - skating might not cut it.

Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, characters will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chooses "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide: If your character would rather have a dog for a pet they are Dominant. If they would rather have a cat for a pet they are Submissive. If your character is from a canon that has neither, pick the choice you believe they would prefer more. To Note: Characters can only swap their designation for one of the following reasons: an event occurs that allows it or there are OOC reasons that make it a necessity. Any swap always requires mod approval and each character can only ever switch once. Characters that are being reapped will keep their previous designation but players can choose to use new tdms with different designations for fun! [ Ever since Wataru had arrived and was swept away by a limo to his new apartment he had been, needless to say, confused. The incredibly open and sexual display he'd walked by earlier had only really made that feeling worse... so when he saw the ice skating ring he almost glowed with excitement.

Sure, he had to sneak past a couple of couples getting really handsy in the dressing room but even that was easier on the eyes than the 'art exhibit' he'd passed on the way.

Regardless he did manage to make it to the rink changed and unscathed. He doesn't jump onto the ice immediately, instead leaning against one of the walls so he could watch the couples holding hands and admiring one another. Love really was lovely. Even if some of those people seemed much bolder than he was used to back home. ]

George has done this bit before: the doos, the tour, the explanations. Last time, he was stuck in a paper gown. Today, they gave him back his clothes—the rugby shirt and jeans he'd died in and has been wearing the last five years.

The walking part is different. George can't decide if he likes it better. On the one hand, he hasn't ridden a train in years. On the other, he likes the solid feel of the ground beneath his feet, the way each step jars slightly, shakes his form. He likes to feel his weight, the force of gravity pulling him down.

The more he walks, the more he likes it, especially since most people don't seem to remember him. When he'd left, he'd been a little famous—the reluctant Submissive Nissen chose to make into a Dominant—but other than the glances he'd gotten all his life for being tall, broad, and handsome, no one stares.

He's distracted from his guide by trailing his finger through a shelf of snow on an iron fence. It's cold and wet, and he grins as he feels the cold seeping into him, warm flesh reacting to the sudden change. Goosebumps rise all up his arms, and he laughs at the feeling, then realizes he's not actually alone and remembers his companion can see him.

"Sorry," he says, shaking his mop of brown curls with a dimpled smile, "what were you saying?"

When George arrived the first time around, he was a virgin and fairly unfamiliar with the world of kink. Duplicity had been quite the education for him, and five years at home as a ghost has made him much more comfortable watching intimate moments.

He forgets, again, that he's visible, and steps up close to one of the Submissives suspended from the ceiling. With a mischievous smile, he nudges one of the ropes, sending the Submissive swinging.

George doesn't know if Magnus or Lucy is still here or if he's still living in the house they'd picked out with Lucy, but he figures it's a place to start. They hadn't responded to the network post, but that might not mean anything.

He hesitates at the door. It's been some time, at least a year. Who knows what's happened to them since he left? Everything had been so complicated between them, especially with Magnus but with Lucy as well. He's not sure if he hopes they're here or if he hopes they're not.

Shaking his head, he mutters to himself, "Now is not the time to back down, Lovelace." He squares his shoulders, takes a deep breath, and knocks.

Things are finally getting back to normal. Nothing's great and grand, because this is Duplicity. Things still ache, because nothing replaces Lucy (or George, to be quite frank). But at least Magnus can go to answer his own door while humming a cheerful tune, happy to see friends as opposed to dreading them and the sympathetic comfort they would attempt.

His wards don't ping anyone in particular, thanks to them having been redone since George left. He never thought to include George or Lucy's signatures on the magic since... well, what was the point? Wishful thinking?

So when he opens the door he freezes. His heart leaps up into his throat and his stomach takes a sharp turn down as far as it will go.

Is this really George? Or is this someone who simply looks like him, down to the hair? If it is George, is he here looking for Magnus, his one time lover, or just the High Warlock of Brooklyn that he's heard about?

Magnus isn't sure which answer he can properly handle, if any of them.

"George?" he manages in a softly choked voice, his expression blank but his eyes screaming with hope.

[ she's freezing.

the worst part isn't even the paper gown; it's the bare feet. daisy has never handled the cold well. before (and after) her time with shield, she'd always moved around warm places. los angeles, mostly. other parts of socal. places where it was easy to live in a van, or wear your clothes through, or ...

it's not easy here. she shivers, folding her arms over the peaks of her nipples peaking through the paper gown and notes to her tour guide, ] The only thing I want to tour right now is a closet.

[ the galleria is the interactive part of the tour. at the first display, daisy gets her bearings. she's the only one looking away. if she wants to blend in — and she does, at least until she's figured out a plan — then she needs to take on the same cavalier attitude that the locals seem to have.

so when they reach the benches, she takes up a long, flat bamboo flogger. it's surprisingly light. the holes punched in it help, apparently. but she still doesn't feel right about this whole thing. this is what dominants are supposed to do, but that person bent over the bench is a stranger.

she leans in closer and asks sotto voce, ] Are you sure about this?

[ because they're volunteering, right? this is a weird sex thing, but it's not like anyone bent over at the exhibit didn't sign up for it. ]

The atmosphere of the city hasn't immediately turned Angel off -- though, she's starting to see that there might be something more insidious at work. That creeping thought is in the back of her mind as Angel rents some skates and is on the ice rink alone. She's friendly enough that she'll talk to anyone who seems open to conversation whether it be one on one or going up to a couple. Maybe it's you she smiles at and says "hello" to.

Eventually, she'll makes her way to the hot chocolate stand and doesn't think twice about getting a warm cup of it as she takes a break from skating. It's the perfect treat for the occasion after all.

[It's a blessing that Sal discovers his prosthetic face plate seems to not have been shoved off with the rest of his clothes and possessions upon his arrival. Dealing with the cold is bad enough, but without being able to cover his face he would've been much, much more uncomfortable going forward. The young man is incredibly slight and short of stature, however, so by the time he meets up with his apparent tour guide, he's already shivering in his paper gown.]

[Although his expression is hidden behind the monotone plaster of his prosthetic, he seems friendly, and clearly doesn't intend to complain about the terribly disadvantages he's just been presented with.]

Is it normal to make us walk through the city like this?

Ice to See You

[Feeling much warmer in his jeans and a hoodie, Sal makes his way out to explore the city for himself. It's a sort of comfortable feeling, being able to walk alone. Plenty of people stare, but that's normal. What isn't normal is what he catches in a storefront window as he glances over to see its displayed wares. Naked?

No, he can't be, he isn't, he knows he isn't. But his face, can everyone see that? Can anyone? Reflexively, Sal backs away, pulling up his hood and trying, desperate, to cover his face with his hands. Even when his gloved fingers hit plaster, he can't risk that his reflection is giving away what he looks like to anyone who happens to walk past.

It's likely he'll knock into someone, causing him to slip on the ice and stumble to his knees. If he wasn't trying to keep himself covered, it would've been easy to catch himself, but instead he slides all the way down onto his side.]

[Finally, something that involves keeping all your clothing on. It's been awhile since he's done any ice skating, but it looks like a fun way to put his worries behind him, at least for a moment. Sal's far from a figure skater, but he's played around in the snow and on the ice enough to be able to balance without too much trouble. Always the sort of person to approach anyone who looks like they need a hand, he'll make his way over toward anyone who seems to be having trouble. Whether they're like a fawn learning to walk on the ice or need help lacing up their ice skates, he offers the same friendly greeting:]

[ After having people watched for some time, Wataru decided it was time to finally face the ice. It had been quite some time since he had last been ice skating, but it was a hobby that he always found particularly stunning.

What wasn't exactly stunning or graceful was how pointlessly difficult his laces were being when it came to lacing up his skates. The sound of Sal's voice catches the idol's attention though and he offers a bright smile in response. Somehow the sight of the mask doesn't seem to bother Wataru or concern him at all. ] If you wouldn't mind, that would be lovely! I think my hands have gotten just a bit too stiff from the cold...

This city has few things in common with that one, but that much holds true: anything really worth noticing happens away from the neon lights and all-night pleasure spots. This city has its darker places, too.

So it's not surprising that when he spots a dark form moving swifter than anyone should through the lower reaches of the city, he sets out to follow from above.

Only to - somehow - lose her. Which is ridiculous, he doesn't lose people. And so he takes his search down to street level, his own suit becoming part of that blackness, save when the strips of blue catch the light. Whoever he was following they can't be far - they've gotta be –

- moving toward him like they're ready to take him down in a single swipe. He has an arm raised to brace against it almost as fast before a strange, uncertain recognition dawns on his face.]

one - take a walk

Okay, so there's a lot of things going on here. One microt he was out in the middle of the big black, alone in his module and pretty sure he was about to get real close and comfortable with the idea of with starving to death or going nuts or both. And the next minute he's -- well, there were the doors, he's getting pretty tired of those, and then there had been the bit with the medical equipment and a slightly more enthusiastic prostate exam than he'd ever had before and the next thing he'd been in a seminar. About sex.

And now he's.. well, he's in a paper gown with his ass hanging out in the middle of a city and if this is one of his teenage fantasies it's missing ten Baywatch babes and a whole lot of coconut oil.

He's also, apparently, missing the guy who was supposed to be showing him around. He'd stopped for a moment to take in the everything of it all and his tour guide has disappeared around a corner or into the crowd, leaving John on the sidewalk trying to work out if he can keep one hand on his junk and the other from stopping his gown flapping open, or if he should just assume this whole thing is a fever dream from oxygen deprivation or starvation or both and go hog wild.

As it is, he settles for at least trying to figure out what's going on, which amounts to approaching the first other person he sees. It's cold enough that his body is shivering hard and he's pretty sure his feet aren't supposed to be that colour, but he's been to New York and he's had his head frelled with before and he knows how this goes.

"Hey b-buddy, don't suppose you've seen a tall guy around here? American, grey hair, goes by Jack? Or a, uh, bald blue lady? Or a big guy with tentacles and a bad temper? Might be wearing high heels?" Arms clutched around himself, he risks a glance downwards, teeth chattering. "Or maybe somewhere I can get some pants?"

He's a little more settled in -- or at least wearing actual clothes -- by the time he rediscovers the Galleria. It seems weird enough that it might be a clue to this whole mess, though as he wanders into the building, his urge to escape is temporarily derailed by the part of his brain that, despite everything, somehow still manages to be interested in the sight of naked bodies.

His never really very determined walk becomes a distracted stroll as he makes his way from one display to the next, fighting between the impulse to start laughing at the absurdness of it all and the fact that he hasn't gotten laid in.. well, it's been a while. Hey, he's still a red-blooded American man after all, what's the problem if he wants to stop and watch someone getting paddled for a minute or two?

Or, you know.. maybe a little longer than that.

Diana's also in a paper gown, but she doesn't seem all that fazed by it or the cold. She's more concerned about the things she's been told by the people with the medical equipment and now this strange walking around looking at things.

But, she supposes that walking around is something. It's giving her a layout of the land so to speak. She's actually fallen a bit behind the group because she'd been trying to find tactical advantages, eyeing different buildings trying to determine their height.

She's so engrossed in looking around that she almost runs into a man dressed much like her - but unlike her, he actually looks cold. Her eyebrows furrow as he speaks - buddy? But she quickly shakes her head.

"No, I have no met anyone who matches the description of those you've listed. But, from what I understand, there should be some of our clothing in the housing this place provides for us." She studies him intently. "I can help you get there." He looks bad and for a moment, she wonders if she should just sling him right over her shoulder and take him where he needs to go.

[ luke's been all over the galaxy since leaving tatooine years ago, but this-- this is.. new. some aspects of it, anyway. when he meets his so-called tour guide outside the submissive dorms, luke's already managed to change, but he still looks cold. most of the planets he's been on lately have been temperate-to-tropical, which means the clothes he'd arrived in are not suitable for this weather.

and anyway, a decade later and he's still a child of the desert in many ways. he just.. can't adjust to cold planets, and in general doesn't like cold weather. ]

And so, she looks progressively more bored, and annoyed, as she wanders through the gallery. She spends a little time at each station, of course, to make a show of it. To fit in. Zero mouthed off to the wrong person, probably. Or maybe just was too loud about her utter disdain for this entire place. Whatever the reason, she's been forced into the exhibit as a model and it's something she isn't happy about at all. She's been suspended from the ceiling, the ropes intricately bound around her to leave her hanging. Her single good eye glares balefully as she sways slightly, watching as Ramona draws fingers against the ropes. There's a bit of a shiver and she tries to get a bit of leverage to do... something that isn't just sitting and taking it.

At least they haven't gagged her. Yet.

"I'll pass on the hooks, thanks," she replies with more than a hint of venom. She's risking more punishment by being openly defiant even now, but Zero has never known when to shut up.

The one-legged young woman in the transport chair looks pissed. It's probably related to the fact that they've taken all her things away, left her wearing nothing but a paper gown, and stranded her in a stupid chair with stupid little wheels she can't even move by herself. The LIER assigned to take her on a tour of the city will find themself on the receiving end of a narrow-eyed glare. A more perceptive person might realize that the anger is a thin veil over a great depth of terror at the situation in which she suddenly finds herself. Her knuckles are white where she grips the hand rests of the chair, and are those scratch marks in the material under her fingernails? Can't be; no human could leave marks like that. The chair must have come that way.

Her eyes flick distrustfully between the LIES official and the person being directed to take her on a tour of this strange city. Come close, and she only has one question on her mind, hissed out between gritted teeth:

"Where did they take my things?!"


Ice to See You

Later, calmer, she finds herself paused in front of a shop window, frowning curiously at her reflection. It had startled her out of the corner of her eye, not quite realizing immediately that she was seeing herself until she stopped to look. She stands leaned on her crutches, a huge shopping bag tied haphazardly to one of them, and stares into her reflection. Cocking her head curiously, she looks down at herself, plucking at the front of her jacket (too thin for how cold it is outside, but she doesn't seem bothered). Then she looks at her reflection again, blowing out a breath that's almost a laugh as her eyes seek out others as well.

"Faster!" She may not be able to skate, but she can spectate, and she's doing so enthusiastically. "Can you jump? Do a jump!"

Hunter sits perched on the edge of her seat just outside the rink, watching avidly and shouting various demands at skaters who seem like they might be capable of doing something interesting. The ever-present bag is hugged in her lap even as she avidly watches, sipping her cocoa and jiggling her leg. She's clearly itching to join them out there, but tries to satisfy herself with watching.


[OOC: Hunter is a selkie. In this form she has a mild glamour that makes her appear fully human, but those with magical senses to pierce such disguises might notice that she has unusually dark eyes, sharp teeth, and claw-like fingernails. She is also missing her left leg below the knee.]

Octavia might have volunteered for the tour, but she was still expecting it to suck. There's no way to soften the blow of "you've been kidnapped by a city that monitors your every move" and even if there was, there's enough lying going on around here without her adding to it.

She's distracted by the crowds and the paper in her hands, looking through the list of places where they have to go (maybe with alcohol to get them through it), until she looks up at her assignment and realizes his face is a familiar one.

She doesn't expect him to remember because most people don't, but Octavia goes from barely paying any mind to her assignment to looking a little amazed by the sight of him. And thankfully, she's keeping her gaze focused on his face.

"Harry?"

If nothing else, please just be Harry. She's been missing him and Hermione for longer than she even knew them.

"You're back - do you remember...? More importantly, are you okay?"

[ sometimes he gives running a try to get a little warm, but the chill is strong enough that even he requires a number of layers to fight out the overwhelming cold. used to sokovia's dreadful winters, he tries not to mind it much, more curious to explore the city and its intent, walking along the sidewalks to view the passing buildings — stores and bars and restaurants, all things that make it seem no different from any other city, if it weren't for its special rules.

soon enough, his gaze focuses in on the window of one of the shops, his own reflection looking back at him. only it's not quite a mirror image. no, he's definitely ... wearing no clothes.

he peers down to make sure the layers hadn't somehow dissolved while he was distracted, finding himself still fully clothed in reality. but looking up, he can only see bare skin reflect, and he sways his hips to watch his cock swing side to side on the glass.

with an amused laugh, he turns to someone else passing by, pointing to the window. ]

Are you seeing this? I am not naked, but I am naked. [ he looks again, checking the person's reflection to see if it's much of the same. ] Look! You are naked too.

iii. BLADES OF GLORY (part a)

[ he's actually a pretty good skater, having been on enough iced over ponds and lakes as a kid to have the practice (granted, he mostly skid over it on ordinary worn out shoes, never having the money for a real pair of skates, but it counts all the same). the speed is the best part, exhilaration filling him from the sharp pricks of wind against his face as he flies across the surface, laugh echoing loudly, sounding carefree enough that one wouldn't think the current circumstances of this city didn't bother him at all.

eventually, he might find someone either struggling to stand on their skates or perhaps they've tripped to land their ass right on the ice. sliding in front of them, pietro holds out his hand, grin confident but kind as he gives a nod. ]

iv. BLADES OF GLORY (part b)

[ of course, he won't say no to hot chocolate, tongue and teeth craving the sugary sweetness as soon as he hears it's being handed out. he doesn't even heed the warnings about certain side effects, gulping down one fully in swift seconds, almost in a passing blur before he goes in for another.

he's midway through drinking his third cup when he pauses, feeling a strangeness down below, warmth escalating to heat as he lowers his eyes, cheeks puffed with liquid chocolate still in his mouth as he catches sight of the stiff erection thick and obvious in his sweatpants. ]

[ It's absolutely no surprise to Wanda that Pietro heads for the ice the moment he can, taking advantage of the skates he always wanted as a kid. After all, he was always the first one to test the ponds in Sokvia, risking the possibility of thin, fragile ice for the thrill of sliding around. She, on the other hand, generally stayed on the shoreline, watching from the safety of solid ground, not interested in risking hypothermia should she fall in. Eventually, he'd convince her it was safe and would pull her out there with him, very similar to way he slides up to her now, hand outstretched as she finishes lacing her skates.

[There's a pleasant, jolly little clickity click sound going on here, the floor a blur beneath the device itself. He turned it on, but he's not immediately pointing it at anything, not yet, anyway. Anyone particularly familiar with the sound might catch on quickly that it's the sound of hooves striking the ground, light and nimble.]

Now I've never personally owned one of these before [The device was tossed from one hand to the other, the briefest blur of white, silver and brown flashing past the screen before it was pointed away again, the voice melodious, sweet, the Irish accent clear to hear] but I'd like to think I've borrowed enough of them [Stolen enough of them. Thrown enough of them into a lake or filled the insides of them with ants] to know how to operate one correctly. [Another toss, and judging by the way the screen lightly bounced before settling, and considering the angle it landed at, seems it must have come to rest upon the propped up pillow on the bed.]

[And there stood the source of that merry little clicking, practically sauntering his way to the fridge to dig through it. Long, distinctly deer-like legs that started just above the knee replaced what would have been far more human appendages, the fur a deep tawny brown and the little cloven hooves obsidian black. There was even a tail, fluffy and short, blending seamlessly into the skin at its base. The thing [A dismissive gesture is made as he heads back towards the phone, pausing before it instead of grabbing it properly] that plays music on it so if someone could be so kind as to tell me where it is, I'd be absolutely delighted.

[Ice skating? Why would he do that, when he could get all the same joy and entertainment of ice skating just by trying to traverse a newly waxed tile floor? No, nah, he's good. He'll be over here, with the hot chocolate. With as much hot chocolate as he can manage to buy, since his charm didn't seem to be getting him anywhere with the local selling the chocolate.

Fine, whatever.

It's safe to say he's probably had... more than one cup by the time he starts actively looking for someone to sit next to. You know. For warmth. He's cold. It's cold out here. He blinks and he's there again, listening to the tide crashing against the jagged Storm Coast. His breaths come wet, lungs searing with each labored wheeze. He can't feel his hands. His hammer, he has it gripped in both hands but he can't feel it, only registers the weight where it pins him down.

The sky is dimming.

Krem looks down and his hands are clenched into fists like he's still got his weapon. He never heard it. The call for retreat. He did hear the others fall, long after his vision filled with blood and the skies above went dark. Then, quiet.

Then nothing.

Then this.

He doesn't know where he is, what this is, why this is, but it doesn't much seem to matter. Maybe it's all a dream. Maybe he's still lying there on that broken shore. His mind is buzzing too loudly trying to understand what happened before to focus on the cacophony of now. He knows the Chief isn't looking after himself. Not with everyone gone, not with the choice he must have made.

It makes Krem's jaw clench, makes his teeth grind and his stomach turn. He wants to box the idiot's ears. Ben-Hassrath indeed. Krem has a fair idea of just what stupid ideas the big lug probably has lodged in his head about now, and not a one of the Chargers left to slap them loose.

And Krem is here, no way back, no clear path forward. He's used to doing the hard things to lead a life he can live with, and he suspects however different this world is, that fundamental tenet of his existence isn't about to change. He can do what it takes, whatever it takes.

[ Soldiers are a rowdy bunch, and mercenaries are rowdier still with fewer rules and also not limited to just men, so when the truly debauched nature of Krem's new surroundings reveal themselves, he proves fairly unruffled and mostly just keeps his eyes politely averted when he walks in on something he would rather not be seeing.

He gently but firmly refuses a few advances on his way through the changing area, only chokes on his breath once as he has to refuse a particularly sweet girl who happens to be just his type, and somehow arrives in the rink with his rental skates properly affixed to his feet. He has on a borrowed outfit as well, a little tight for his tastes, a little too cold still, but that's apparently the done thing for this sort of activity, whatever this activity happens to be.

Damn his curiosity. He saw people tying actual blades to their feet and couldn't help but want to check it out, and now here he is, with blades on his own feet, precariously perched on the ice, only clinging to the wall of the rink very slightly. In, you know, a manly way. Shoulders pulled back and everything.

How hard can this be?

Krem finds out shortly when he takes a tentative step away from the wall, slips, and lands hard on the ice, just barely catching himself from cracking his head open or smashing his pretty face. ]

Here is a man who is not best pleased with being out in the cold.

But orders were orders, and on both sides of the law, as he has stood, it is best to learn what you are dealing with before you go any further. These cold, miserable, wet-strewn streets were a far cry from Dunwall, but in it beats a city, moving and thriving with its own vices, rotten and beautiful all the same. Where is disinclined at the moment is that no matter how long he spent in Dunwall's miserable streets of near-constant rain, the wash of the river winding and churning, the sharp wind at the Tower? No, he was a son of Serkonos, and he was born in sunny shores. He still had no love of the cold, and the years and injuries between then had not made it easier.

Thankfully he is not so easy to miss for whoever is giving him this tour. Standing at some 6'4, a stiff proper coat of the Lord Protector. The sword and gun at his hip, he stands like a soldier at ease, rather than a simple member of a crowd. Nor is he quite... still. He surely gives the image of it. Shoulders stiff, mouth an even line.

But his fingers drum against his side in an offbeat. His gaze constantly shifting from one face to another. Measurement of his surroundings at a constant pace. One thing after another. Over, over, over.

When he is approached, he snaps his gaze back, and turns his face towards his companion and gives a stiff bow from the waist, his hand on his sword, his other arm in front of him in a scrape of a courtiers manners.

"Greetings. I am Corvo Attano. You are the one that is taking me on the tour?"

[After spotting a familiar name on the communication network, Sebastian makes the executive decision to hunt down Grell. After all, it's too dangerous not to know what a Grim Reaper is doing. Nevermind that this fool creature seems to be intent on blowing his cover as a butler! It seem as if it's impossible for Grell to cherish the sounds of sweet silence, without making a production out of everything and anything.

So there is is: Sebastian has no choice but to actually seek Grell out.

With the tours, the art display and the winter festivities in full swing, it takes awhile to find Grell. The shock of red hair at the opposite end of the tennis courts betrays the Grim Reaper and it's then that Sebastian puts his plan into action. Clearly Grell is looking for him, although he doesn't know why. What he does know is he needs to wrangle him before he runs his mouth off and if that means indulging him, then so be it.

Of course Sebastian knows how to ice skate. It's a simple thing, and he had mastered it ages ago under a previous Master. The trick is to swing by Grell at just the right speed to lure the insatiable Reaper away from the wall, out onto the ice where Sebastian be able to control his movements

01. WALKING TOUR.

[ One thing is for certain as Rowan steps out into the chilly afternoon, wearing nothing but the paper gown provided him by the technicians. He is not in Texas. He's been there once before and while it's not subject to the same rules as most of the rest of the world, sex and LIES and deceit are not part of their charter.

He wonders where his liberating captors are now. They had saved him from the pyre only to, what, throw him into the snow? Seems much more likely that they would want to punish him for "his misdeeds" in their own fashion.

Rowan had been scared before. Terrified. But now that he's been given enough time to realize that he's (1) not about to be killed permanently and (2) not being considered Public Enemy No. 1, he's more open to listening.

02. GALLERIA OF SEX.

[ The tour continues apace until they reach some kind of art installation. Rowan's trying to take in his surroundings, trying to work out just where on the planet he is. Someone's said something about multiverse, but that's just too hard to swallow. The thought of living somewhere without the Thunderhead, at least serving as backbone to the world order, is too much to contemplate at this juncture. He's still reeling from his imminent demise and grateful to be breathing clean air.

Then they walk into the art house and Rowan takes a proper look around. He's shown people tied up, people serving as furniture, people just... having sex. Right there.

While he's got just as active of an imagination as any other heterosexual (maybe) 18 year old male, and someone to fantasize about to boot, this is nothing like those thoughts at all. [ When Rowan finally gets to his new home, dismal as it is, he throws on the robes he had been wearing before the paper gown and sits down to examine the technology. It seems nice, all things considered. For a backwards world, they've got something going for them.

He doesn't expect the Thunderhead to talk to him, and what little experience he has in the city of Duplicity so far has shown him that no one knows the Thunderhead by that name. So instead he trawls through old posts to the network, seeing what people have said, trying to make sense of the world.

What he reads, he cannot believe.

So he sets himself up with a network connection, aiming the camera to take in not just his face but the upper portion of his chest. Little does he know that this makes him look, to the viewer, like he's shirtless.

There are worse things. It helps that Rowan's physique is exceptional, much more developed and defined than your average teen. He's been put through hell and back -- in life and in his training -- and the one thing he can show for it is a ripped body. ]

A paper gown, while mostly modest enough for Ainslie's delicate sensibilities, does not protect from a stiff breeze. On top of all that, her dress has not been returned to her yet, so by the time there's a knock at her door, she's well and truly agitated.

The greeting that her tour guide receives is as cold as the air outside, and whoever has been assigned as Ainslie's tour guide will hear her voice call through the door:

[ When Ainslie notices the reflections and their lack of clothing, the lack of covering on her own reflection is particularly distressing. She doesn't say anything about it, but averts her gaze and tries to angle her body in such a way that her reflection doesn't show anything too compromising. No glimpse between her legs, no nipples.

Of course that doesn't guarantee her a pass from being gaped at or ogled. As soon as she sees anyone looking too closely at her reflection she clears her throat primly and speaks up: ]

He sees the world explode into animated colour and gridwork displays of unfollowable digital patterns.

He still thinks he's in Vegas while he's processed by LIES, and he thinks the walking tour of the city is some kind of police escort taking him in for an arrest or further questioning. [ Enough time has passed for Marcus to have a decent, sober handle on where he is and what Duplicity expects of him, but he hasn't exactly been in a rush to whip out his dick and waggle it at the first person willing to help him out with his quota. [ Toto, she is definitely not in Kansas anymore.

Standing there on the streets in the Down is one Isabelle "Izzy" Lightwood with a tattoo running from her chin and down her throat, looking over the piece of paper she'd been handed with some motel she's to make her way to. Via public transportation.

She's not entirely sure of the game she's found herself in here but she plans to find out as much as she can and just go from there. Even if she's without her brothers. Or Clary. Even Simon might be nice to have around. Maybe.

With the paper tucked inside her coat pocket, she gathers her hair to drape over a shoulder and makes her way to the public transportation she's to take, standing there once she's on it and smiling when she happens to catch sight of a lonesome looking person sitting there by themselves. Might as well try and see what she can find out about here and make a friend or two, right? That means coming right on up to said lonesome looking person and smiling as she gives a tilt of her head. ]

[ Having never been one to have had much of a problem with her body or her looks, she's not at all fussed at looking at her naked self there in the reflection of the window as she tries to go about fixing her hair the wind has decided to make a mess of. To say she isn't letting her gaze wander to whoever happens to be walking by in the reflection would be a bold-faced lie. So she's being a bit bad. So what? Isn't that what this place is all about? But when she happens to catch sight of someone in particular walking by, she can't help herself from tossing a comment this stranger's way. Chalk it up to her feeling good about herself and knowing cute when she sees cute. ]

[ Who doesn't love hot chocolate on an icy cold day like this? She hasn't yet managed to hit the ice out there but has been watching others skate around, most of them hand-in-hand with each other and it makes Izzy feel... some sort of way about seeing that. Some sort of way that gets her to stare down to her hot chocolate a little somberly before she catches sight of someone out of the corner of her eye and, turning on the charm, she flicks her hair over her shoulder, offering whoever happens to come by a smile as sweet and warm as the hot chocolate she nurses. ]

[ wylie only wishes this was the strangest thing he's ever experienced. no one's attempting to kill him, there are no obscure rituals or sacrifices he has to perform, no stupid campers or hotel visitors to rescue, and no staff to manage. sure, he's in basically nothing in another world, he's been tattooed against his will and told he's a second class citizen in some sort of city that takes d/s entirely too seriously, but. well. it could be worse by far.

still, he's shivering and desperately trying to keep the paper gown fully closed, shifting from foot to foot when he meets the person he's supposed to tour with. ] Listen, I'm very sorry, [ he begins, as apologetic as he can make himself sound, even though he's actually pretty annoyed with the people that run this place. what the hell were they thinking? ] I can't possibly take a tour like this. I'll have hypothermia in ten minutes. [ that's. a bit of an exaggeration, but really. ] Do you know where they put my clothes?

[ finally dressed--sensible winter boots, jeans, flannel, a heavy canvas coat--wylie would like to say that he's more comfortable now, but honestly, the galleria is sort of bizarre. he's sure there are places like this somewhere back home on earth, but he's certainly never been to one of them. for one thing, he's never had time, even if he were inclined.

his brows are knit, worried--an expression that anyone who comes to know him will realize is very much a default--as he observes the bound and wax-covered figures in one of the displays. he touches fingers to his own marked throat, frowning uncertainly. .. are these people volunteers or is this some kind of punishment? ]

They're going to be so sore after this is over, [ he murmurs to anyone nearby. ] Can you imagine? [ some of them have been tied up for hours, judging by the wax build-up. ] This has to be considered inhumane, doesn't it? [ sure, wylie doesn't hesitate when he needs to kill a person to put them out of their other-cursed misery, or to keep something powerful and dangerous contained, but it doesn't mean he's heartless. ]

[ wylie is small and sort of fragile-looking beneath the layers of his clothing, but he's almost startlingly confident on the ice. he's also quick to offer a hand to someone that's struggling, mouth quirking up a little at the corner sympathetically. ]

It takes a little getting used to. Here, I'm sturdier than I look, I'll help you up. [ the hargraves are an outdoorsy family, trust him. ]

How often can I expect to run into enchantments, curses, elder gods, or irritable wendigos here? I've heard some things already and I was sort of hoping this would be a break.

[ ooc; an important note for wylie! due to his particular circumstances, he's capable of seeing 'the truth of things', so he can see through things like glamours and to the heart of what a person is. .. it basically means he'd take a look and just know if your character's supernatural somehow. if ya don't want that to work on your character, just lmk. he has some info in his journal, so check it out if you're interested! ]

[Even without his abilities, it's not hard to tell that Zagreus is not in the 'human' category- having little tufts of flame seeming to flit up from his hair and more obvious ones licking over his feet should be a pretty good giveaway. Depending on how much Western mythology Wylie has been exposed he might even be able to guess the origin, the crown of golden laurels resting against his dark hair and the various skulls attached to his clothing painting a pretty decent picture of where he might have come from.

Zagreus is not entirely unfamiliar with the world of kink, though it's certainly never been on such bold display in Tartarus. He's fascinated by it, not unaware of the appeal and more trying to figure out the complexity of the knots, looking over when the other man speaks.]

Is it? [It's... genuinely a question. His exposure to mortals has been very limited, and even the ones he's talked to have been, well. Dead.] I mean, definitely a bit sore afterwards, but I assume they've agreed to be here...
