TDM #4 ( revised )
« « « TEST DRIVE MEME » » »
It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up. |
![]() After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning. |
![]() While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either. |
![]() Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form. |
Please read carefully. On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice. To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. All characters who have blue eyes or one blue eye and another color are Submissives. All characters who have brown eyes or one brown eye and another color are Dominants. Characters with any other color eyes are Dominants. To use this TDM as a door pass please link this on your app and place whether it is Dominant or Submissive. Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!! |
6O | Nier: Automata | Submissive
[And what a big world it is... 6O seems to be doing her level best to look everywhere at once as she waits for the ride to her "temporary housing", turning this way and that to follow the paths of passersby and vehicles until one of the locals waiting here hisses for her to cut it out and stay still.
He's a human. Of course she stops. He might not have the authority by the rules of this city and the pale gray line down his throat, but he does by the purpose built into her very code.
Her eyes still dart back and forth though, trying to take in everything. It's more than she can process right now; she keeps unconsciously reaching out, trying to link into the familiar mesh of her fellow Operators' minds, only to find nothing. Proof, if the noise and the dust and the color and the people weren't enough, that she's not on the Bunker anymore. It's a strange, unmoored feeling, like the earth (the earth!!) isn't entirely stable under her feet- or maybe that's just her processors overloading. This is so much. That's all she can really feel about it now: it's just. A lot. A lot a lot.
... The seating on the bus sure leaves a lot to be desired once it arrives, though. It's hard, and doesn't fit nearly as nicely to her body as her workstation, and the cushion is somehow... sticky? It feels less than pleasant against her artificial skin, anyway, and while she's not all that worried about her near nudity (having her face uncovered feels more exposed, really), the paper gown leaves more of her in contact with this thing than she'd like.
She still manages a cheery if somewhat dazed smile for the person sitting nearest to her, and blurts out the first thought she can string into a sentence:]
Hi— uh— is it always like this?
sub schooltable it for later[With her proper uniform back in her possession, 6O's status isn't immediately obvious. Her veil is back in place, the black and gold almost entirely opaque and long enough to brush her collarbones; the dark line shows through the mesh front of her suit, but blends in with its coloring. It's definitely the actions of the submissive she's watching, though, attentive as if she expects to be tested on this. Even with most of her face covered, though, there's a clear discomfort in her expression when Miriam starts stacking items on her partner.
They're both human. Why would either of them lower herself to the role of furniture when they're so much more? (Isn't that super inefficient, anyway? An actual table would take less upkeep than a human or an android.)
Maybe someone else here can shed some light on the issue. She turns to the nearest reasonably-friendly-looking person and whispers:]
Do all submissives have to do that?
wildcard
[thotobots, roll out
feel free to tag her on the train too, that starter would have pretty much been the bus but prettier and I've gotta run to a work function for a little bit!]
OH BOY HERE WE GO
No, he's pretty sure that's 6O peeking in the window of a flowershop...which of course she is. If he were to find the bubbly Operator anywhere it'd be a place like this, wouldn't it? Whatever he was doing in the Down, whatever he had planned? It's all discarded and forgotten in favour of meeting her. He moves quickly, unable to keep the smile off his face. Sure, it sucks that she's here in a place like this, but at the same time...she's here?
6O had always been one of the more friendly units to him whenever he returned to the bunker, and even though she wasn't the Operator assigned to him, they still had chatted here and there from time to time. She was one of the more...emotional ones up there under the Commander's thumb, and thanks to that he'd been fond of her.]
Hey! Hey 6O-! Over here!
[He's waving as he jogs up to her, coming to stop right as he reaches her side. Thank god he doesn't actually have to breathe.]
You okay? When did you get here? Oh man...I can't believe you're here!
no subject
9S? [Face, voice, HUD icon all check out.] 9S!
[Behind 2B's, his is the most welcome face she could see here. 6O never precisely went out of her way to befriend him, considering... circumstances she doesn't like thinking of. But he'd always been fun to talk to. Unlike many YoRHa, he never really chastised her for being herself.]
You're here too! Oh, wow, it's good to see a familiar face, this is all so- [How can she even begin to sum it up? Earth(?), life, hugeness. People. So many people. Humanity, alive and well. It's all impossible and yet every sensor and nerve and analytical process in her confirms it's real.
There's no word in her vocabulary that fits the sheer volume of definition she wants. She sweeps out her arms instead as if to encompass the whole scene.
Oh, he asked her a question, didn't he?]
I'm fine! Um, a little overwhelmed, but everything's still attached, you know?
no subject
[Thank God she's okay.
He vents an audible sigh of relief as he watches her swing her arms out wide, unable to suppress the thankful smile he's wearing. Unlike other designations, Operators weren't made to be deployed planetside. That's not to say he thinks she's helpless but...this place wasn't kind to their kind, especially those who were designated to be subordinate.]
Looks like you found the flowers, huh? Pretty, aren't they?
[Of course she was overwhelmed. He was by the very nature of being a Scanner - he can't imagine what it'd be like for an Operator, especially one who had such an interest in Earth in the first place.]
Have you been here long? Has anyone tried to do anything to you? Everything's functioning as it should?
no subject
Not long! A little over a day, Bunker time? Nobody's tried anything weird, I promise. [Couple of creepy comments from the locals, but they didn't do anything...] And I already told you I'm fine, silly. What about you?
[They gave him a mark like the one she's got... She's not at all subtle about looking it over.]
no subject
[He waves discussion of his well-being off flippantly, scanning the area around them to make sure they're more or less alone.]
I've been here for a couple months now. I know it's weird and doesn't make much sense but there's a bunch of stuff I have to fill you in on. Remember the unit that was on the run? That Command wanted us to hunt down? Well she's here and I'm contracted to her.
[Before 6O can say anything or fully express whatever shock she might have he continues, gloved hands up and palms turned outward - a plea of sorts.]
A2 isn't bad like everyone thought she was and she isn't a threat here. Yeah, she has some major beef with YoRHa still but honestly it's not unwarranted. I trust her, so I hope you can trust her too.

BONUS PROMPT now that I've got all evening
[That shopkeeper didn't tell her to go back Down when she tried to buy herself some water, but after she showed him her neck as requested he didn't let her stay in the shop, either... Is she actually allowed to be up here on her own? She must be, because she's seen a few other people with a line on their throat and nobody with them, but maybe it's different if they have a contract. The worry that she might be breaking the rules is an uncomfortable static in the back of her mind, but as soon as she saw this place from the train she knew she had to come back to North Park.
She winds up spending a good chunk of the afternoon here, wandering the formal gardens, admiring the few kinds of flowers that thrive this time of year, watching the fish. Maybe kind of trying to catch the fish? Just a little? To see what touching a real, live animal feels like? Not that she actually manages to grab one, but she's still a funny sight as a young woman seemingly underdressed for the weather (all that mesh can't possibly keep the chill out), sticking her hands in the water to reach for a passing koi.]
ohai
If androids dream, that would be the nightmare that 2B had every night. 6O's sweet voice calling out to her one last time while 2B herself was helpless to save her, to save the Commander, to save any of them.
Even herself.
Seeing her there makes 2B stop in her tracks, her destination forgotten entirely as she stares uselessly at 6O with her hands in the water.
Trying to catch fish.
Finally, she lets out a broken, helpless little laugh that sounds more like a sob than anything else.]
It helps if you had a Pod to do that.
no subject
2B! You're here!
[Although, what was with her voice just then...? That didn't sound much like a laugh, and it immediately sets concern gnawing at the edges of 6O's thought processes. Did something happen before she got here? If somebody hurt her, 6O will— Er, not really be able to do much about it, actually. But at least she can be here for her!
Which is to say, she should brace herself because her Operator is incoming. 6O runs towards her, arms extended; she knows this would get her such a scolding back at the Bunker (and maybe it still will) but it's totally worth it to try.]
no subject
If this is some trick, some new way the city has found to test her, it's cruel beyond measure. Behind her visor she closes her eyes tightly and expects that when she opens them the water will be undisturbed, the fish will be swimming along, and nothing will have changed. She readies herself for the pain of that reality but instead she's hit full force by an armful of Operator, solid and real and perfect. The constant support, the feeling of never being alone, it all comes rushing back to 2B in an instant and she doesn't hesitate to wrap her arms around the other android.
No scolding, only a hand resting gently against the back of 6O's head as she holds her close and forces her voice to come out evenly.]
I'm here. It seems like you're unharmed.
no subject
6O's too preoccupied to notice the little tells that would taint it with worry—the thin-lipped look, the clenched fists; she just sees 2B, and a piece of her world fits comfortably back into its rightful place. She squeezes tightly, tears pricking at the corners of her eyes as she leans into her charge.]
Yeah. I'm fine.
[Where "fine" can encompass "sounds a lot like she's about to break down crying, actually." It's okay, those are joy-and-relief tears. She just feels things a lot, okay...]
And you? You're not hurt or anything?

hello world
This isn't where she belongs, but she wanted to see it anyway. How is everyone else supposed to live here outside of the lap of luxury?
When she's spoken to, Rise looks to the side at the blonde girl-- maybe her age?-- sitting next to her, and gives her a sheepish smile.] Sorry, I'm new here, too. I wish I could tell you!
It's pretty crazy, huh? All this "dom" and "sub" stuff.
no subject
[She casts a quick glance at the human girl's neck. Unmarked, which means she's a "dominant," right? Well, that's only fitting.]
I hope it'll make more sense after orientation.
no subject
I'm trying not to think about why it's a little sticky. Let's just-- let's kinda ignore it for now, you know?
[The girl's statement makes her tilt her head to the side.] Have you not been, yet? It's pretty crazy. I mean, at least the one I went to, was. [Because she's a sub. What sort of info do they get?]
i can't for the life of me find a good pic for a thinking icon, argh
[She fidgets with the edge of her flimsy gown, frowning slightly where she notices it's already starting to rip a little. There's no way this thing would last through orientation time.]
Kind of strange if you really think about it, right? They could have just kept them and given them back before I left.
I imagine it's really hard with a character whose face is always half covered, too
It's way too cold for something literally made out of paper!
And so few ingame close-ups... hashtag minor character problems
i'm playing it now and she's adorable
brace yourself...
hello world
Depends on what you mean by 'this'. A pain, ugly, offensive to all sensibilities? Sure is.
no subject
[As 6O shifts a little in her seat, she can feel the flimsy paper gown cling to it a little. Eww.]
Uh, I mean... [Too many things to really sum up in one "this"? She shrugs.] You'll have to excuse me, I'm new here. Like, new new.
no subject
[Kanin has managed to be sitting on... something? she's folded up some paper to be between her legs and the seat.]
It's probably from people fucking on the seats.
no subject
Why wouldn't they clean up? That's just rude.
[And weren't humans supposed to prefer privacy for that??]

table - hi robo friend
He's keeping an eye on the crowd as the demonstration goes on, but temperement seems scattered. There's a young lady next to him and he can sense the anxiety in her question so he speaks softly. ]
No, no. I don't think they care much about we do specifically, as long as it's... thematic.
[ Wow. Hopefully that sounded diplomatic. ]
hi!!
It's just... [she lowers her voice a little] Kinda weird, you know? Seeing humans lower themselves like this.
no subject
I've seen humans do worse.
[ So much worse. ]
no subject
[That gets her to wince. She's not sure she's up for knowing what he means yet, even if it would be useful. But at least, if he's seen enough humans to say that then—]
So you've been here a while?
