It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

"Hey, I didn't make it up." She does managed a little grin, because yeah, subtlety's kind of out the window there... but then again how subtle can somebody lugging a giant key around and smacking shadow-monsters with it really be?

"Yeah, I think I'd like to hear more about your world too, when we have time." Martial arts battles to decide the fate of the world? If nothing else, that had to be exciting.

"That sounds great," Videl said, a little surprised that even in this place she was finding a reason to smile, at least a little. "I'll tell you what I can, there's a lot of stuff that happened that I don't actually know about though."

Which was just a reminder to herself to actually get the full story it of Gohan whenever she saw him again.

"Hey, a lot of the big adventures on my side I only heard about secondhand too, so we're in the same boat at least." Seriously, it'd be nice to actually be a part of the team going out there and getting things done for once.

Well, that was what she was training for anyway.

Videl nodded at that. "Well it's not even that I heard about stuff secondhand. I know that there's some stuff that happened that I don't even know about yet. Not to mention everything that happened before I was even born..."

"Yeah, I can sympathize there too. My boys are pretty good at telling me everything they were there for, but I know there's a lot of history we're missing." Both from just about a decade or so ago, and from somewhere thousands of years in the past.

Though honestly, when it came to the ancient history probably nobody really knew the full story anymore. World-ending catastrophes tended not to be very well documented.

Videl nodded, not really surprised that there'd be some missing history in regards with what Kairi knew, especially if she hadn't been there. It wouldn't surprise her if Gohan didn't know that much about some of the things that happened before he was born either.

But one thing that Kairi said had that had Videl a little curious. "Your boys?"

"Oh, Sora and Riku. I grew up with them on the islands and we were all pretty much inseparable until the whole adventure thing started, really. Heck, a lot of the adventures we've had have been us three trying to get back to each other after things split us apart." Except for the latest one, but even then, her role in it is getting to learn how to wield her keyblade so she can go on the adventures with them.

"But they're the ones who've been doing more of the adventuring than me because they have keyblades and I... well, I got mine like a year behind them. Kind of annoying, really, but what can you do?"

Videl blinked at the mention of Kairi having a keyblade. Not because she couldn't necessarily see Kairi fighting anything, but mostly because that meant she could likely actually see what one of those were.

"I... kinda know the feeling," Videl said. "Though at least you only have a year behind them. I'm pretty much never going to catch up to anyone who can protect the world back home no matter how much I try..."

Well that's surprisingly pessimistic sounding. Kairi tilts her head curiously. "What makes you say that? If they got that strong there must be a way for you to do the same thing, right?"

Saiyans, Kairi. Saiyans.

"Well, it's not something I understand completely just yet, but the group of people I'm talking about are ridiculously powerful compared to normal people where I come from," she began. "And well, even among them, there's a small group that's even more ridiculously strong compared to everyone else in the group. Like, during that incident with the monster I told you about, when the adults among that small group were taken out of commission, it made more sense to them to have the seven-year-olds fight against the monster than for the martial artists who had trained for decades to try to do it."

She paused, leaning back a bit. "I mean, other than those few in the group, everyone else who's so far above me now were weren't strong enough to even last more than a few seconds against that thing."

Having ridiculous power in comparison to normal people was something Kairi could completely understand. Another level of power above that was also something she could grasp. But the next part of Videl's explanation made her jaw drop.

"I... wait, wait, seven-year-olds? That's crazy! In what world is a kid that age ready to fight anything?"

"Well, in the end they kinda... weren't," Videl said, frowning a bit more herself. She hadn't felt comfortable with the idea to begin with, but now that she knew more about what happened, well. "But that wasn't because of power. Just that they were seven. But they were the only ones left at the time anywhere close to strong enough to be able to stop Buu. The rest of us just got killed within seconds when we tried anything."

"How did they get that kind of power?" Seriously, Sora and Riku are weird enough and they were fourteen and fifteen when they started their adventuring, respectively.

"Some quirk of genetics that hasn't been explained to me yet. I mean, they still needed to train somewhat to get there, but it was at least made clear to me that that level of strength is only something approachable by those two and people in their families."

Which was kinda annoying, but Videl knew that Gohan was going to be explaining it at some point, but that hadn't happened before she had ended up in this situation.

"Geez, were their parents superheroes or something?" That was a thing, right? Superhero kids always grew up with incredible power? She wasn't a superhero expert or anything, but she was pretty sure that was in some of the comics she'd read.

"Technically no," Videl said, making sure to not mention how one of the kids' brother actually was one. "They could've easily become one if they wanted to, they were certainly strong enough. Not that you need to be anywhere near as strong as those kids parents to do that." She blinked as a thought came to her, and then laughed a little. "Honestly, now that I know how to control my ki, I'd probably count as a superhero."

Which was something she was going to have to get better at, but that could be worried about a little later.

"Okay I think we might be getting at the root of things here? Because I have no idea what ki is and it sounds like that's the main thing that makes people strong where you come from." Also it's vaguely funny to her that it sounds like "key", for obvious reasons.

"So what is it, exactly? Can anybody use it?"

"Yeah, knowing how to control ki does result in a pretty big jump in power compared to someone who can't," Videl admitted. "From how it was explained to me, it's the life force that everyone has within them, so yeah, anyone should be able to use it if someone taught them how."

Of course, apparently dead people also had ki which didn't make much sense to her when she thought about it too much, so she wasn't going to.

"The life force that everyone has? Huh. Kinda surprising I've never heard about it then." Sure, keyblade wielders had their own sources of power, but it was still surprising that nobody had ever learned to harness this method.

But then again, it wasn't like she, or even Riku and Sora, had been to every world. Who knew what else was out there?

"So how long have you been learning?"

"I hadn't heard about it for years, so it's not that surprising. It's actually not something that's all that well known where I'm from," Videl said, though once again she had to wonder why that was. Sure, her father had contributed somewhat to people thinking it was just tricks, but before that?

Well, that was another thing to worry about and figure out once she was out of this mess. "I've been a Martial Artist since I was a child, but I only learned about Ki and how to use it about a month or so ago."

"So you had a leg up from the start. What can you do now that you couldn't before, then?" Martial Arts was cool enough, in Kairi's opinion. She'd kind of like to learn, honestly...

Videl blinked. "Yeah, I guess I did. After seeing Goten and Trunks though I kinda forgot about that..." After all, two kids who were better than almost everyone on the planet had a tendency to completely destroy one's perspective.

... Oh right Kairi asked her a question. "Well, my strength is much higher than it was before I learned how to use my ki, but the main thing that someone would see as obviously different is that I can use it to fly."

And everything else abruptly became completely irrelevant.

"You can fly?" Literally the only reason Kairi didn't ask for a demonstration was because they were still inside the train. "That is so cool!"

Videl laughed, knowing exactly where Kairi was coming from with that reaction.

"Yep! The only reason why I learned how to control my ki at all is because I needed to know that to fly." And she really should've insisted that Gohan taught her more about controlling ki, but something about hindsight and perfect vision and all that.

"That is totally a perfect reason to learn it!" Granted, super strength and stuff sounded awesome too, but flying. No regrets.

"And it seriously only took you a month? Really awesome."
