« « « OUT OF CLUTTER FIND SIMPLICITY

It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

« « « END IN THE DISCORD

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

» » » TABLE IT FOR LATER

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

« « « MOD & OOC NOTES

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Please remember to mark any necessary content, and have fun!!

[ she is very much not used to the clothes in this world. so many people have worn black to the club, the material reflective, with vibrant neon colors that hurt her eyes a little. plenty of people are hooking up publicly, sharing drinks, wearing...strange things that seem to please them. others disappear into back rooms to escape the music, which seems to thrum through the entire room.

welcome to the future, Neria Surana, it's a strange place. at least the drinks are still full of alcohol and...some things taste normal to her, at least. it's not backwater tavern swill. she should be grateful.

not decorated as a Submissive, she brushes her hair back behind one pointed ear while she nurses for her second drink, her eyes scanning the room and looking for...well. anyone of interest. no familiar faces (which she is mostly grateful for) but plenty of vibrant, lively people, and many of them very, very beautiful. she senses magic and mana, and there are...spirits nearby? it's all very strange, and she is stirred from her reverie by a sudden voice nearby. a man with golden hair and bright eyes catches her attention, if only because--

mongrel. the word stands out above the din and she doesn't initially notice that he's thrumming with mana. her eyes narrow. ]

It's stirring something. [ irritation. ] What was that about a treasury? [ and a king? ]

[ to say she looks out of place would be nothing remarkable. many people at the club look out of place, perhaps because they are, having been transplanted here from other worlds and eras. her fashion sense, the tunic and trousers, already signal her as out of place. for a heroic spirit, who has been summoned throughout all time, each timeline and point of history exists along the same axis, so no manner of dress or appearance is really surprising. of course he is wearing extremely tasteful snakeskin pants appropriate for any era, being the gentleman of exquisite good breeding that he is. ]

A King should not repeat himself for any man or woman, but rejoice, for my mood is gladdened by the good cheer of this world. [ no asinine Grail War! ] I am speaking of course of my vault with all the world's treasures.

[ he spreads his arms expansively. he is wearing a lot of gold. not tacky or anything, all this bling. ]

Though what is that I sense in you? [ eyes narrow, and he leans back, looking a little mischievous. ] A magical signature? If only slightly, it does provoke some interest.

[ so he's the king he spoke of. her gaze sweeps over him, lingering on the gold for barely more than a moment. it does not interest her much; she has plenty of it back home from all of the work she's done, but if she melted it down, she'd possibly only have enough to forge a third of the links of the necklace he wears. for a moment, her eyes fix on his own, and Neria settles a bit more to attention - a direct contrast in the way he leans back. respect where it is due, she supposes, for the time being... though she's already coming to a conclusion that he is a loftier sort than the nobles she's met in her few years.

at his comment, she opens her senses. Gilgamesh registers as...something. not human. the composition is wrong, and yet-- he looks normal enough, with mana to spare.

her gaze sharpens on him, far more interested now. her body cants forward ever so slightly, as one might toward someone telling an engrossing tale. ]

You've caught me; I am a mage, yes, one not half so lucky to be born into greatness like royalty. [ there is a faint smile there, almost self-deprecating. ] You... I'm not certain.

[ she cannot comprehend something so complex as a Heroic Spirit - but what she can interpret, from what she can sense, is he is something like a tangible ghost. that, alone, is worth her attention. ]

[ though an aloof King, Gilgamesh always was rather interested in human psychology and what makes a person tick. she concedes enough respect to somewhat placate his aggressive demeanor for the time being. and of course he is selfish enough to be interested in those who are interested in him, especially if there is any entertainment or knowledge to be had in interacting with them. well, that remains to be seen. ]

Is that so? [ he hns. ] Yet not one from the world that is my garden, I suppose. In my experience, which is considerable, mages are deceitful creatures prone to trickery. [ he has not exactly had great interactions with them, although there have been certain Masters he developed a certain amount of fondness for. ] But that would not serve one well here.

[ he reclines a little further. he has not shown anyone in this world his vault. not just yet. but perhaps he might, if the conversation turns in that direction. ]

I have no qualms about telling my identity. I am Gilgamesh, who ruled over Uruk. But in truth, the world was and is my garden, even if I am not currently present within it. "I" exist in all timelines, so I am simply biding my time in this summoning within Duplicity, enjoying whatever may delight my soul.

[ Neria listens and says nothing as Gilgamesh speaks, simply taking the time to absorb what he says. under most other circumstances, she might have simply written him off - he is arrogant, after all, and self-absorbed in his royalty, in being king. but as he goes on, her attention once more seems to sharpen on him.

quietly, she admits: ]
I must be from a world outside of your garden, then, as I have never heard of Uruk. Or, I should say, I do not know of any part of my world with that name.

[ and therein lies the rub. he speaks of existing in all timelines, of a garden, and he is covered in gold. he finds mages to be deceitful. Neria's gaze, for a moment, seems distant. it would not be overly far-fetched to think that Gilgamesh, as some kind of ghost or spirit, once did exist in a facsimile of her world. who had a golden throne that was then tainted by deceitful, selfish mages.

Surana, this man isn't a god.

she says nothing of that. simply implying a man to be as powerful as the supposed creator of her world would be...overly idealistic. but he has her attention now, utterly and completely. ]

I will not say mages aren't deceitful. I have heard terrible tales of magisters who dabble in blood magic and who have done abhorrent things for their power. But many of the ones I know have been locked away in towers, watched by armored guards, left to feel frightened. Which frequently leads to possession and death.

[ which is neither here nor there, and it's not really fine talk for an establishment like this, nor for a stranger. ] You must be powerful indeed, though, to transcend time and even the confinement of a single world.

[ let's not rub it in, though. ]

This place doesn't bother you at all?
gilgamess: ([ surprise? ])

[personal profile] gilgamess 2018-09-19 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
How unbelievable that any human should be from a world that is unfamiliar with the legend of I, the King of creation! [ HMPH. ] Ahaha, yet, perhaps it is just as well. I shall simply rewrite my glorious deeds within this "Duplicity." Indeed, my blood already thrills at such a prospect.

[ it is always a great offense to Gilgamesh when anyone is unfamiliar with his legend, but for entire worlds to be so -- that is vile, indeed. yet this woman does not have the aura of deceit about her. impossible though it seems, she must be telling the truth about the fact that he did not exist in her timeline. it cannot be helped.

but a King carries his majesty in all contexts, so this is simply Challenge: Accepted.

and Surana would not be wrong to think him a god; not entirely. he is half-god. but that, too, is an extremely touchy subject, and one quite likely to provoke a thorny reaction, being as he is an entity who loathes, fights, and topples gods. he ended the Age of the Gods himself, after all. ]

To think that I should be questioned! Ha. Yet, you have paid proper respect to my authority and powers, so I shall speak openly on the matter. I see no reason that I should be bothered. When I was summoned to the Grail War of the Moon Cell, indeed, such a venue was tremendously dull. No fruitless exertion, no artifice, no lewdness. I had no choice but to walk to the Far Side of the moon and sleep among all human evils for untold millennia. Yet it did engender decadent and relaxing dreams.

To look at this world, a man can enjoy himself amid all human desires. To watch how the masses struggle against what fate has put before them -- this is the apex of humanity.

Yet I have not decided whether I shall put my might into this struggle, whether there is any who is worthy to receive the aid of the crown.

[ it's not IMPOSSIBLE. if sufficiently stirred in the interests of someone who wants to change society, he certainly could, in theory, pitch in to upend this world. there's just the matter of whether anyone can make him care or not. ]

I wonder, actually, for there is a tale of a golden city and a throne blackened by the hubris of men. It would not be far-fetched to consider that some piece of you, perhaps, has filtered into our mythos. But the name of Gilgamesh is not one that is known, I'm afraid.

[ for better or worse.

and he continues on. and on. Neria listens but the pieces she gathers are not focused on Gilgamesh himself but, rather, the implications of the words he uses. Grail War, Moon Cell. he implies a great deal when there's very little substance in what he says. he has her interest completely, especially if this golden man has some oblique tie to the entity her people know as the Maker. even if he does not, he is clearly powerful, and has some kind of spirit origin. it is enough.

he is a man who is used to decadence and in deciding what he wants. looking at the room, her attention slipping only briefly to some of the activities around them - dancing, kissing, other displays of affection and lust - implies he is the sort of person who would thrive in a place like this.

and he is unmarked, making his station very, very clear. ]

And what do you hope to revel in in this world, King Gilgamesh? [ the question seems innocent enough but Neria's attention, now fallen on him once more, belies a certain feigned coyness that seems to suggest that she is quite aware what he will revel in. ] Or, a better question, if you will allow: what would make someone worthy enough for your interest in a world full of these struggles. What sort of person would be worthy enough to see your aid?
gilgamess: ([ cocky bastard ])

[personal profile] gilgamess 2018-09-23 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ his eyes seem to scan her face rather carefully. ]

If you were lying, I would sense it instantly, you know. My eyes can read falsehoods, and I would have the head of anyone who deceives me. [ and then he laughs, crossing one leg over the other idly. ] Yet, you are telling the truth. Well, more's the pity for your origin world.

[ he raises an eyebrow at her question. yes, this woman is somewhat intriguing, indeed. a mage, but not one associated with the style of magic of which he is familiar. very prone to asking questions, but at least she does so without presumption. what more is there to her and to her psychology? hm.

a little more simply and frankly, he admits: ]

Those I am most intrigued by are those who seek to shoulder burdens beyond what any human soul may be capable of. To try to take the fate of the human race into your hands -- that is the apex of humanity.
