It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

Phillip is not super used to clubs. Eighteen isn't old enough to get into most of the clubs in his world. But he's familiar enough with the idea and is comfortable enough with it that he doesn't stand out nearly as much. In a way, it's kind of exciting, all the people and how very, very heated (in a good way) some things are already getting.

Still, when he spots who he's been paired with, he can tell she's a little out of place. So... he'll try to behave. And not flirt too much. But still probably flirt a little.

"Kairi, right?" he says, sitting down next to her with a little smile, "I'm Phillip. It's nice to meet you."

It's kind of sad how easy it is to tell that this isn't where Kairi usually goes. Her eyes stick to the more visible places, lest they accidentally slide over something she really doesn't want to see. She's seated all-too-straight, clearly not comfortable, and she's clearly distracted by trying to keep an eye on things. All in all, obviously not having fun.

But she smiles warmly at him when he sits down, partly because that's what she does, but mostly because hey, someone to concentrate her attention on.

"Yep, that's me! Nice to meet you too, Phillip." Phil? Hmmm, maybe not that, thanks to Sora's stories she'll probably start picturing a short goat man if she calls him that.

Great, now the mental image just popped into her head regardless.

Honestly she's so uncomfortable that it kind of verges on adorable. Phillip will try to keep his expression tamed, and thank god he's an actor because then he has half a chance to do that.

"So, are you new here too?" he asks- he feels like she kind of has to be, but then again, maybe there are some people who never adjust to this place. Or who are just new to clubs. That's... theoretically possible here, he's sure. Even if he has a hard time figuring out that could happen.

"Yeah. On the other hand I feel like everyone I've talked to today has either been new here, serving me drinks, or a guide. So, probably not a surprise, right?" That was supposed to be a joke, but honestly now that she thinks about it she realizes it's actually a little strange. Wouldn't it make more sense to try to convince some locals to come up and befriend them, help them settle in? Why wouldn't they do that?

Great, one more thing to worry about. But hey, maybe he's had a different experience.

"Have the locals been chatty with you?"

"A couple," Phillip says, thinking back on it- though really it was more him being chatty with them. He's a very chatty person. "But I guess not a lot, yeah. It's pretty early, though, we might not have just had enough time out and about yet. Though I do kind of wonder if they're matching up us new people on purpose." Which might not be a bad thing- solidarity in this weird new situation, maybe?

"I mean, they seem to be kind of shuttling us around a little? Between the train, the guides and everything, it looks like we're mostly being kept together so far. Maybe that'll change up tomorrow." She really didn't know what to expect tomorrow. The folks in charge had given them a general overlook of how the city ran, but beyond that? She really had no idea what to do. Go hunting for subs in the down, maybe, but that idea made her cringe.

"That's why I'm trying to get in touch with people. Sort out what's going on and what we're all planning to do. For a loose definition of plan anyway."

Phillip shrugs. "A very, very loose definition of a plan, probably," he says dryly, "I mean... I wouldn't even know how to start making any kind of a plan. For anything." What he would like is a plan to go home. But since teleporting back into his house isn't working, he's kind of stuck on possibilities for that at the moment.

But he doesn't want to bring this down too much, since it's likely neither of them need that. "Is there a kind of plan you're thinking of? I mean. We could try." Two heads are better than one, and all.

"No, that's the thing. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing right here. Like, when I wake up in the morning, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to wind up wandering around the city aimlessly unless something comes up, at this rate." A little depressing, and embarrassing to admit, but she's kinda thinking most of them are in similar situations.

"I mean, I guess to make a plan, you've gotta have a goal first. Problem is, I think I know what most of us would make our goal, and... I'm pretty sure it's impossible, at least with what we know and can do now."

She'd be a bit less certain of that if she hadn't already tried to get out via keyblade.

"Yeah. I think I know what you mean." Even if he doesn't know that she's tried basically the same escape route he has.

He leans back in his seat a little, thinking. "Maybe it'll feel more like a plan if we go together, or... try to get a group or something?" he says, a little bit uncertain about it but... it's not the worst idea, "I mean we'd still probably be wandering around blindly, but."

"That's not a bad idea. I feel like we're pretty much all gonna need a place to talk this stuff out anyway. If we can just find a way to get in touch with each other and get a place to meet, we're most of the way there." Of course, it's anyone's guess as to if that would actually help anything even if they did get it done, but it's not like she's heard any other ideas.

Or thought of any herself.

"I mean, there are these things." He holds up what to him looks like a foldable iPhone, which is both really cool and deeply unsettling all in one. "We can probably get each others numbers or something? I don't know if we have a way to contact everyone who's new, but at least one-on-one we can try to keep in touch."

"Yeah, that's true. One more reason to talk to more people, right?" As if she needed any more. She's just a people person in general.

"I wonder if we actually need numbers, like a phone at home, or if we can just type in somebody's name..."

"Huh. That's a good point..." Maybe it works like Facebook and you can just look people up. He pulls up his, searching her name to see what he can find. "Looks like there's some kind of network thing, but I don't know who's got access to it."

"Maybe everyone does? Wonder if there's a chat or something... Well, I can experiment with that at my apartment, either tonight or tomorrow depending on how tired I am by the time I go home." So probably tomorrow, since she's not likely to leave here and try to go home until she's about ready to pass out.

"What really bugs me is... why bring us in here? They've got this city already, things seem to be going fine for them. Why are we here?"

That really is the question of the hour. "I don't know," he says, sighing, "They said that it was because of some sort of program- LIES, or something? Which is a weird name. But I don't know if they explained what the program is for." If they did, he certainly missed it and it sounds like she might have to.

"I dunno. I guess they weren't finding the results they wanted from people here. Or it needs to be tested on outsiders. Or... something."

Well, those are a few guesses, anyway. Maybe one's right, maybe it's something totally different. Honestly she can't think of any other ideas off the top of her head.

"I didn't hear any explanation. But these seem to be the kind of people who don't think they owe anybody one, so no surprise there."

"Yeah." Phillip sighs. This is turning into a very downer conversation. "I guess we just need to make the best of it until we can figure stuff out. At least there's things like this, right?" Though then again, maybe this club thing isn't fun for her even if she wasn't overwhelmed by the rest of it...

It's unfortunate, but also kind of unavoidable, really. "Well, I've never really been into the club scene... I'm a beach girl myself. Comes from growing up on an island."

Well, that's at least an opener to a decent topic change.

It is, and Phillip will take it. "Really? That's pretty cool. I grew up pretty landlocked... where're you from?" He's never been to an island-- well, not a tropical one anyone. Japan probably doesn't have the same feel of what she grew up with.

"Oh, it's called the Destiny Islands." She half-grins, half-grimaces, clearly very aware of how silly that sounds.

"And yes, I'm quite serious. Not really sure how they got the name, to be honest. Well, I've got a guess, but that's about it."

Wow. "That's quite a name," Phillip says, grinning, "Never heard of them before. Where are they?"

Sure, there's a chance that there's weird cross-world stuff happening, but... also American education in geography is pretty shit.

"I'm... not really sure how to answer that. I've never been anywhere else on my own world except the islands, and the ocean around them is pretty expansive. I wouldn't be at all surprise to find out we're the only land in my world."

Her world specifically, of course.

...Yeah ok that's not his world at all, then. Unless she's on some weird, hidden island somewhere. The way she says it kind of implies she's been places not on her world, but maybe he's reading too much into that. "Oh. Ok then. What's it like to live there? I don't think I've ever even been to an island like that."

"Oh it's awesome. Never too hot, never too cold, cause the ocean keeps things like that down. You can always go swimming... I mean if you can't swim it's probably not so great, but I can't imagine growing up on an island and not learning."

Seriously, that's just a complete waste.

"That does sound awesome." Damn. "That's... probably a huge shock to wind up here, then." This is basically the exact opposite in terms of aesthetic.
