It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy.

This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses.

To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues.

» » » LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park.

The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most.

Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled.

On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments.

To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

Please read carefully.

On each Test Drive Meme, there will be a section noting character roles based on birthdays; these will vary each TDM. On an IC level, character will still have gone through the doors but assignments OOCly are still randomized. When applying, there is a section of the application that denotes whether the character chose "left" or "right". When participating on the TDM, there will be a third option. Players may link either a top level or a thread (five or more comments from their character) from the TDM and title the link as "Door Pass". This means that the player is choosing to take the designation that they were randomly assigned on the TDM, rather than taking the designation of a door. If the player decides to select a door rather than use the pass, then they are trying their luck; they may get the same designation they had on the TDM or the opposite. Once the application is submitted, players can't change their choice.

To assign roles to characters for this TDM, use the following guide. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of January to June, their designation will be Dominant. For characters with a birthday falling in the months of July to December, their designation will be Submissive. For characters with an unknown birthday, their designation will be Dominant.

Arrival into Duplicity has not been used as a prompt as it is a rather large part of introducing the game and will be saved for the first in-game log. But feel free to thread it on the TDM. Also, any locations throughout Duplicity are available for TDM prompts as well!

"Actually, with what I've gone through, it being metaphorical isn't exactly all that obvious," Videl admitted. "I've been turned into a piece of chocolate and eaten by what I can only really describe as a genocidal pink bubblegum monster released on Earth by an evil space wizard." She shuddered, trying to avoid dwelling on that particular memory too much.

Of course, there was no reason to not answer the obvious question that was going to come next. "There are these things called Dragon Balls that can grant wishes, which is why I'm alive again after that."

Well, that's... a lot to just absorb at once. "Okay, wow. I thought my life was pretty weird, but honestly I think you might actually have me beat."

Some of the Heartless get pretty wild, but she doesn't think any of them can really match genocidal bubblegum. Now, evil space wizard, she's got that covered. And as for wishes... well, Sora did meet a genie once.

"And to think, just a couple of months ago, everything was normal," Videl said, shaking her head a little. "Anyway, sorry to dump that on you like that. I mean, I lived through it, and it still sounds insane coming out of my mouth."

Then again, so would being whisked away to this city if she tried to explain it to anyone. So maybe 'insane' was just her life now.

"No, it's fine, I'm just kinda trying to picture what evil bubblegum looks like now." And she was pretty certain the image in her head wasn't at all what the real thing actually looked like, but that didn't really matter.

"At least it gives us a leg up on this place? Sort of, anyway."

Videl smiled a little at that mention, since, well, Buu did sound completely ridiculous if you weren't actually there to see him in action. And honestly, even if you still were there to see him in action. She still didn't know how anyone could ever come up with that.

"Yeah, I guess we do have that going for us," she admitted, shaking her head. "Though being here is still a lot different than what I've already been through. It's just not the weirdest thing." Well, based on what she's seen so far, anyway.

"Right, it's still pretty new." To say the least. "And I really don't know what we're supposed to- well, no, scratch that, I know what were supposed to do, I just don't know how the heck I'm going to deal with it."

She can't just go along with this whole thing. But ignoring it definitely isn't an option, so now they've got the proverbial rock and hard place. At least she's got someone else stuck there with her. Probably more than one, come to think of it.

"There've gotta be other people around here who feel the same way though, at least."

Videl nodded to, well, all of what Kairi was saying. "Yeah. I don't know how I'm going to deal with all of this either." Sure, okay, she could be kind of forceful, and well she wasn't completely ignorant of what the terms used here meant, at least for back home. But that was mostly just a... sex thing to her knowledge, not an entire setup for their lives since birth. Or arrival.

"I'm sure there has to be," Videl said. "I mean, clearly going by what we've heard so far this setup isn't exactly right." Her attention moved to the window for a moment, and then she frowned as she realized that the area that they were traveling through didn't look anywhere near as good as where they had first arrived. "... Same by going with what we can see with our eyes."

Kairi's eyes followed Videl's, and her face immediately twisted into a grimace. "Dear light, is that where the submissives live? The ones not paired up, anyway? That's disgusting!"

Somehow she managed to hold the volume of her comment down, knowing full well that if she didn't, she was in for some attention she really didn't want. Still, she couldn't stop staring at it in abject horror and revulsion.

"Explains how they convince them to find a dominant quickly, I guess..."

Videl's gaze was also fully stuck on the sight out of the window, eyes narrowed as if glaring at the sight would make it just up and vanish.

She probably would've had better luck fighting against Buu than making that happen.

"If I hadn't thought that this was wrong before seeing this, I'd be convinced now," she said to Kairi, her tone also low to keep from being overheard as she switched her attention to the rest of the train car for a moment. Her eyes fell on one of the dominant and submissive pairs that were further up ahead, a sudden, burning desire to punch said dominant in the face coming over her that she quickly had to force back down. Getting arrested wouldn't help anything. "How can anyone be okay with something like this? This is half the city! Even if the dominants only care about themselves, this has to be causing widespread problems."

Kairi has an answer to that, but it's one that makes her skin crawl even more than it already was.

"Simple. They figure if they keep things this bad, the submissives will rush into the dominants arms when they come down there looking for one." And, judging by what they've seen so far on the train, it seems to be working.

"They want the submissives to think of them as saviors, protectors. Makes it easier to convince them to do whatever they want."

Videl thought that over for a moment, then sighs, making sure not to turn her attention back to the city. "Yeah. That has to be it. It's the only thing that makes sense for how the city can still be standing if the inequality is this bad. I mean, anywhere else would've ended up with some sort of rebellion by now. Or at least a lot of crime," she paused, frowning.

Made her had to think just a little about the situation back in her world. Satan City had a lot of crime; hell, she ended up fighting against it most of the time because the police needed her help.

She sighed again, closing her eyes for a brief moment. "I think I'm going to have to do some investigating about this place as soon as I get a chance."

"I think we all are." Not that she was all that great at investigating. Not much in the way of experience, after all. Still, she had to find out more than they were just telling her.

"And it's worth noting we have no idea what the crime rate's like down there."

"Considering how it looks from here, I'm willing to bet that it's probably pretty common." Though even if crime was more common here than back home, part of her was pretty sure that the crime back home was worse. "Though hopefully I'm wrong about that. If I end up having to get into a fight to stop a crime down there I'm... well, going to feel bad about it. It's a lot different when whoever's causing crime just wants something to eat instead of hijacking a bus full of senior citizens or holding the mayor for ransom."

"You know, I was the daughter of the mayor back where I came from and I don't remember anyone kidnapping my dad for ransom. Lucky us. But honestly I think the bus story sounds way worse. Who goes after the elderly like that?" Videl's city sounded like something out of a superhero comic book. Not one of the super dark and gritty ones, but one of the ones where it seemed like criminals just came up with the craziest plots possible on principle.

"... And now I'm wondering if there's a mayor here." And, if so, are they behind this? Or at least part of whatever group is?

"Well, they were pretty dumb," Videl said. "The weird part about it was that none of the people on the bus were actually worried all that much. They said it was the most excitement they had in a while." Well, until the bus went off a cliff, but uh... not going to mention that part.

"But it looks like your home is a lot more peaceful than mine," she added after another moment. Since it seemed like it was pretty obviously true, which made her had to wonder why there was so much crime in Satan City since everyone thought her father had saved the world and was pretty much unstoppable. Then again maybe with him never getting involved with the police it didn't seem like it would matter to them.

Potential headache to think about whenever she got out of here.

"Wow. Some pretty tough old folks you have." Even Master Yen Sid would be a little rattled if he was on a bus that got hijacked... well, except that he'd just probably turn them all into frogs or something. Or just glare them into submission. He's probably capable of that.

"Yeah, sounds like it." Right up until the mass invasion of living incarnations of the concept of hungry darkness, but that's been taken care of. For the moment, anyway.

"Is your whole world like that, or just the city you live in?"

Videl giggled a little at Kairi's first comment, since, well, there was a bit of truth to that. At that question about the rest of the world though, Videl didn't answer immediately. Mostly because she had to really think about it.

"I mean, I guess. I think my city's worse as far as crime goes, but crime isn't the only bad things that my world has had to deal with. That monster I told you about earlier is the only the most recent of things like that that's happened."

"Your world's full of monsters like that, huh?" She can kind of sympathize, if you switch out her world with the worlds as a whole. And the monsters are invaders.

"Sounds pretty rough."

"Not always actual monsters, but yeah, we've had a number of those. Last major thing like that that happened was some sort of bug man who claimed he could destroy the world." She paused, frowning for a moment. "He decided to make a tournament for the fate of the world for some reason."

That'd probably be something to ask Gohan about the next time she saw him. Whenever that ended up being.

"See, the bug man thing I can get." She was almost positive there'd been a few Heartless like that, if nothing else. "But a tournament for the fate of the world? Sounds like something out of an old kung-fu movie."

Not exactly wrong there, Kairi.

"Well, if you add in aliens to that, you basically get a lot of what's happened in my world in the past?" She said. "I mean, the World Martial Arts Tournaments have always been a pretty big deal, and most of the time when the world gets saved it's by people who are using martial arts." She frowned for a moment, before letting out a sigh. "Just taken to an... insane degree."

"You know, I'd probably be more surprised by that if I hadn't had to deal with multiple worlds getting saved by wielders of giant magic keys." Which was, when it came down to it, really bizarre when you actually said it out loud.

"Giant... keys?" Videl asked, blinking as she thought about what it could mean for a moment. "Well, okay, I guess that would make almost any other way of protecting worlds seem absolutely normal."

"They're called Keyblades." Not that knowing the name really helped anything, really. And honestly seeing them getting swung around probably wouldn't make Videl find the whole idea less silly either.

"Iiiiiit's a long story."

"Bit on the nose there with that name," she said, a little surprised that she wasn't giggling a little at the name. Then again, just being in this place was probably a little bit of a buzzkill.

"Well, I'd love to hear it sometime," she said. "Though it might be a bit too long to go into now." The train ride tour thing probably wouldn't be long enough for them to actually get through all of it.
