It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. Yet, solace is found in the lies we tell each other, comforted by the peace of knowing that we're not alone in our depravity, and once on this path, sin itself becomes the lesser of two evils masked in a cloud of normalcy. This is how Duplicity has functioned since the beginning. The divide of power and social standing is overt in that Dominants influence the decisions made both publicly and privately while Submissives cater to the rules presented to them. It is the way of Duplicity to assign random designations at birth with no leeway in altering what has been given. Climate in the Up is far stricter than that of the Down; violating outlined personas for a Dominant or Submissive while in full view of others is punished by degree of infraction. In the Down, many tend to turn a blind eye to these sorts of offenses. To counteract the discovery of the Deceit Gene – a natural "negative" response to all stimuli – the L.I.E.S. program was founded. The program had been designed to introduce new subjects to the current environment and test for the Deceit Gene through immersion in Duplicity's standing society. Sexual impulses and encounters increase the chances of detecting the gene within these individuals. Participants are typically released from L.I.E.S. after a year; however, results have remained unsatisfactory and testing still continues. You’re here! Finally! Welcome to Duplicity. After choosing a door and stepping through to the other side, the first thing that greets you are the enthusiastic faces of people in medical scrubs and pristine lab coats. Their enthusiasm translates to eagerness as they strip you of your clothes to perform a thorough examination—you will be healed, bathed, and given a paper gown to wear until your items can be processed and delivered to your residence later in the evening. You are also given a device that accesses the network as well as the time and location of orientation. If you enter Duplicity into the Up, congratulations! You’re a Dominant, which means you are immediately picked up by a limo after processing and taken to your highrise. Here, it is two Dominants per floor with separate apartments. If you enter Duplicity into the Down, congratulations! You’re a Submissive, which means you are directed towards public transportation with the address of the motel you’ll be living in. Here, it is two Submissives per room with a shared common space for all rooms. Enjoy your free time until orientation! Participation is mandatory by all new and old arrivals. Oh, and one more thing. It's fucking cold. Better bundle up.

After stepping through the door and participating in orientation, LIERS are assembled together in the Up for a tour of Duplicity in its entirety. Seats are in pairs and randomly assigned to Dominants and Submissives alike. Traveling from Fiddler's Square, the train journeys through various parts of the Up, showcasing society and examples of lifestyle. Along the way, frequent stops are made; a variety of passengers can be seen exiting and entering the doors. A Dominant with a kneeling Submissive takes a seat near the front of the train at one stop. A small group of Submissives board and sit closer to the LIERS at another, all seemingly content in their roles. As the tour continues through the Up, the train passes close to the Market and White Wall Bridge and zips by North Park before heading into the Down and bypassing Red Wall Bridge and South Park. The train makes a "final" stop at Riddler's Square, where inhabitants of the Down are instructed to return to their temporary housing. Those who live in the Up are permitted to stay on the train and revisit the same locations while returning.

While the societal climate between Dominants and Submissives remains somewhat neutral throughout Duplicity, there has been the occasional whisper of defiance and call for equality. Yet, demonstrations and visible proof of this unhappiness spreads faster by word of mouth on a day exactly when you need it most. Welcome to Autonomy, a "traveling" nightclub that is never in the same place twice. People wanting to attend only learn of its lucrative location and password hours before it opens for business. Tonight, I choose the third door will get you inside and into the temporary freedom club Autonomy has to offer. In this circle, there are no assigned designations and no consequences for taking a role that isn't the one given by society. So, a Dominant may become the Submissive they've always wanted to be—or vice versa. Dominants and Submissives alike are able to mingle without repercussion and be themselves. Food, drinks, and private areas for more intimate – or if your preference is sexual – encounters are provided. Donations are accepted at any point during the night to further Autonomy's attempts of spreading the fulfillment that comes from being untitled. On the night you choose to visit, Autonomy is holding a random lottery for temporary connections. When entering, you have the choice of submitting your name into this drawing to be paired with someone else in the club regardless of designation. A short while later, a message will pop up on your device with the name and information of your partner, and whether or not you choose to meet them is purely at your discretion. Having more than one connection isn't completely unusual either.

Gratification of being a successful Dominant or Submissive isn't necessarily simple. Learning curves are to be made, and mistakes will happen. Led by a Dominant and Submissive couple – Miriam and Victoria, who have been paired for twenty-two years – a monthly meeting for unattached Dominants and Submissives is held in the conference room of Morning Wood motel in the Down. The meeting starts a few minutes after nine and has no designated end time. The couple introduce themselves and explain the purpose of the meeting: learn the proper method for a new kink and possibly find your perfect partner. The space is intimate and well-stocked with refreshments. To begin, Victoria, while blindfolded, balances on her hands and knees with her back perfectly level. Her partner, when ready, places various items on the level surface–a full cup, a plate. The Submissive is meant to hold the items until the Dominant believes she's reached her limit. The exercise is one of trust and understanding. The demonstration is a short one, followed by Miriam removing the blindfold and soothing her Submissive. The words are whispered low and with care, clearly a method that is specific to this couple. The process is concluded with the pair handing out workups, videos, and answering questions. Anyone wishing to practice Purposeful Submission can do so in the open room with a random volunteer, aided by the couple, or can find someone to take to one of the rented rooms. Sex may follow any scene but is not necessarily included. Experimenting with unattached Dominants and Submissives allows for new relationships to form.

[Ralph walks through the door that looks the least ominous, but ends up harassed by the people in white. He hates humans, but manages to get through the examination process with only a handful of violent responses. Fighting back isn't so easy without any weapons. Overall it's invasive but he's survived much worse.

He doesn't know where he is, and he doesn't care, but he knows he doesn't want to be there a second longer if he can help it. Ralph zones out eventually, and is left in a gown and a network device with no answers to his questions. It doesn't appear that he's in Detroit anymore.

Apparently there is orientation, and it is mandatory. Ralph isn't able to process everything that's just happened, but decides against getting into the limo just, and instead decides to do a little exploring before orientation.]

Can't be late. Ralph mustn't be late. [He mumbles the words over and over to himself as a reminder not to stray too far from that location, still very much in the gown.]

[Ralph's never had a home before. Not somewhere to call his own, at any rate. Back home he isn't even sure androids can even legally own property. He savors the peace and quiet as he walks around to examine the area. It's clean, but plain. This, he can fix easily, and knows exactly how.

Leaving the same way he came into the building he ventures out to find plants to bring home. Both for decoration and to prophylactically prevent loneliness with something living. Something green.

He doesn't have a clue where he would find plants, but is determined not to return to his apartment empty handed. At some point he becomes distracted by his surroundings and walks face first into someone unsuspecting.]

[In the Down]

Orpheus had needed to be sedated, not when he'd found out he'd been kidnapped but when he discovered his captors had taken his guitar. Now that he has it back, he's eager to make up for lost time. So, as soon as he gets to his room and sees it, he picks it up and heads right back out.

Those out in the Down at night might see a young man with a pinkish line down his throat, on a corner in the Down, leaning against a street lamp playing a tune that sounds like anticipation, the start of a new adventure, the danger of a quest. People close enough to hear may find themselves feeling the confidence of youth, the thrill of a challenge, ready to tackle whatever they may have been avoiding.

There's also a thread of something underneath that sounds like pure sunshine. Get close enough, and you'll notice that in about a twelve-foot circle around Orpheus, the air is warmer, fresher.

It's not for his audience. It's just that Orpheus hates the cold.


[Autonomy]

Being classified Submissive is maybe not ideal, but Orpheus doesn't mind it so much. He's always thought of himself as something of a switch, and he's lived in far worse conditions than those provided here.

Still, with his mark getting whiter every day, it's nice to be able to forget his designation and simply be. His guitar is currently a harmonica, for portability's sake, tucked into the pocket of his well-worn jeans, and while the music in this club isn't ideal, it's good enough for now. He doesn't dance, but he drinks, and when the time comes, he puts his name into the lottery.

Whoever it pairs him with, meeting strangers always makes for an interesting evening.

Was it luck or fate that brought two figures together? She had heard stories about him, Orpheus of the Underworld, but they were nothing more than gossip among the sea nymphs in Oceanus' palace. Another example of what could befall nymphs aside from forced brides. For Circe, what touched her was that there had been love, something she never got to experience.

While she heard of him, she had never seen him. The moment she saw his name on her device, she had to debate about whether or not this was the man she thought it was. However much she prayed that there was someone from home, there was nothing to guarantee that a mortal hadn't chosen the name for their child.

Once seated across from him, she looked at him curiously, not certain what she was expecting or what could denote that he was the figure of legend. "Where is your lyre?"

[And what a big world it is... 6O seems to be doing her level best to look everywhere at once as she waits for the ride to her "temporary housing", turning this way and that to follow the paths of passersby and vehicles until one of the locals waiting here hisses for her to cut it out and stay still.

He's a human. Of course she stops. He might not have the authority by the rules of this city and the pale gray line down his throat, but he does by the purpose built into her very code.

Her eyes still dart back and forth though, trying to take in everything. It's more than she can process right now; she keeps unconsciously reaching out, trying to link into the familiar mesh of her fellow Operators' minds, only to find nothing. Proof, if the noise and the dust and the color and the people weren't enough, that she's not on the Bunker anymore. It's a strange, unmoored feeling, like the earth (the earth!!) isn't entirely stable under her feet- or maybe that's just her processors overloading. This is so much. That's all she can really feel about it now: it's just. A lot. A lot a lot.

... The seating on the bus sure leaves a lot to be desired once it arrives, though. It's hard, and doesn't fit nearly as nicely to her body as her workstation, and the cushion is somehow... sticky? It feels less than pleasant against her artificial skin, anyway, and while she's not all that worried about her near nudity (having her face uncovered feels more exposed, really), the paper gown leaves more of her in contact with this thing than she'd like.

She still manages a cheery if somewhat dazed smile for the person sitting nearest to her, and blurts out the first thought she can string into a sentence:]

[With her proper uniform back in her possession, 6O's status isn't immediately obvious. Her veil is back in place, the black and gold almost entirely opaque and long enough to brush her collarbones; the dark line shows through the mesh front of her suit, but blends in with its coloring. It's definitely the actions of the submissive she's watching, though, attentive as if she expects to be tested on this. Even with most of her face covered, though, there's a clear discomfort in her expression when Miriam starts stacking items on her partner.

They're both human. Why would either of them lower herself to the role of furniture when they're so much more? (Isn't that super inefficient, anyway? An actual table would take less upkeep than a human or an android.)

[Immediately after the orientation-- like, immediately afterwards, when you've just exited into the cool winter air towards the limousines-- a young-looking woman with a hood covering the top of her head stops in her tracks a few paces ahead of you. Sorry if you collide. (No she's not).

She whirls around, and her expression is one of surprise and concern; she grabs your upper arm with one hand and jabs a finger at the limousines with the other.] What are those? Do you know? Tell me!

[Her nose wrinkles and she sniffs the air; she makes a face.] These contraptions... what purpose could they possibly serve, other than making the air smell foul? I do not like them.

[2: Marketplace]

[If cars were surprising to Holo, the Up Market is something else entirely. It's astounding. It's larger than any market she's ever seen in any city she's ever been to. There is bread, there is alcohol, and most importantly, there is fruit. There are apples.

The only problem is that she doesn't have any money. Or rather, she doesn't have any idea how to access the money she supposedly has. What is this plastic card supposed to do, anyway?

Again, you'll find yourself accosted by a young woman, though this time she's not wearing a hood, and you can see that on the top of her head are two wolflike ears, perked straight up.] I want to eat apples. How do I use this [she holds up the money card] to buy them? Show me.

[3: Autonomy]

[Holo does not know what a nightclub is, but she's heard people talking about it in excited, hushed whispers-- her sensitive ears pick up many things that people think are properly secret-- and so has made it her mission to find whatever it is that they're talking about.

She almost leaves right away. It's crowded and loud, too loud, uncomfortably loud, and it smells terrible. But one of those smells she recognizes: liquor.

It turns out, she can just give the merchants here her plastic card and they give her free booze! That's amazing. And there's a lottery, too? That sounds fun!

If you're her match, a notification pops up on your screen with her face-- ears and all-- and the name "Holo the Wise Wolf. Currently drinking in Room E."

It's not really a room as much as it is a section covered in blankets and pillows and cordoned off by a thick red curtain, but if you go there, you'll find her indeed, a large mug of beer in her hands and her clothes... not on her. Scattered across the pillows. She's naked and completely shameless about it as she drinks her booze.

Also, it's not just the ears. She's got a very fluffy tail that she's currently draped over her front like a blanket. Her eyes flick up as you enter.] And who are you? I hardly mind drinking with company, but it is rude to barge in on a maiden's bedchambers, is it not?

[Anduin held the reins of Reverence close to him, hoping it might shield him from the noise and the uproar inside the nightclub. He had no idea what had happened in between his going to bed last night after speaking with Genn, but he woke up in an entirely new place, and it was disorienting, to say the least.

He petted his hands down his horse’s white mane despite the full Alliance armor that adhered to her chest and flank, her soulful gaze telling him she wasn’t exactly comfortable with the foreign sounds either.]

Stay here, it’s alright…Don’t worry.

[Was he telling her that more for her own benefit, or for himself? Hard to say. Clad in full armor decorated with the symbol of the lion as he was himself, it might come off as exceedingly odd to anyone who was going there to the club that he’d enter. Still, the ‘device’ they offered him, a little more heavy than a hearthstone and yet lighter than a gnomic invention, told him he may be able to meet with someone that could “help”. It was worth a shot.

He slowly made his way up to the lounge area, where the more comfortable cushioned seating was, his name “ANDUIN WRYNN, SUBMISSIVE ” would no doubt tether with another device, detailing theirs in kind. When he saw someone approach however, he couldn’t help but lift his gaze to them, and give pause.]

[Anduin felt a strange tingle in his body, one that seemed to leave him both disgusted and embarrassed, if not entirely flabbergasted. They had mentioned he was to be one of these “submissives”, but…Why? Why should he go along with this? He struggled with himself, hanging back in the corner as if trying to be unnoticed. He clearly wasn’t exactly looking forward to “practice” much less participation.

His face was ruddy, pink from both shame and simply being flustered, undoubtedly. He clasped his hand over his mouth with a gasp.]

[The armor is unfamiliar, but in this world, what wasn't? He was good looking and had an innocent face, something that never paired well with such a place. She smiled at him kindly, taking the seat opposite him. Having been here long enough, she had managed to purchase fabric to make into her usual chiton and veil, allowing her dress in antiquity.

It was a small comfort, but there were so few to be found here.]

"Yo, this is some straight up bullshit!" Penny yells as he's shoved out of a shop. At the door, the shopkeeper seems to just…fall through Penny like he isn't there. "Yeah, that's right," Penny says, ignoring the fact that it's his inability to stabilize his physical form that won this for him. "Nobody pushes me out of anywhere, and I am sure as shit not going to buy a slave just so I can shop in your stupid store."

He disappears completely for a second, and when he flashes back, he's holding a sandwich from the shop. "You should keep a better eye on your counter, man," he says as he starts to walk away.

The shopkeeper chases him, and Penny runs, going insubstantial again, which just makes the sandwich drop to the ground. He skids to a stop. "Are you fucking kidding me?"

When the third person of the night approaches Penny to ask him to put his name in the lottery, he holds up his hands in surrender. "Look, I'm only here because it's the only place in town where people don't care if you're dom or sub or switch or what-the-fuck-ever. I don't wanna end up in some kinky speed dating shit."

He flashes a glare at the general area like somebody might be thinking about pressing the issue. "I just want to get intoxicated on whatever you have to get me intoxicated."

I. Riddler's Square
This place. He doesn't know what to think of it, and maybe it's just better if he doesn't. The tour is... something. It's like the weird college tours he's been on, or the one he was dragged through at Aglionby. This is where people live. This is where they shop. This is where they get fucked up. This is where they waste time. This is where they care about shit. Most of it drones through his head, in and out like so many bees in a hive. But he pays attention to the way things look, where they are. Points of interest that whiz by, not part of the tour.

Now get the fuck out, and fuck off to the underworld. Or something like that. It's not the worst ending to a tour he's ever heard.

"Who do I need to blow for some cigarettes?"


II. Autonomy
After the mindfuck of orientation, all Kavinsky wants is to get wasted. He heard of the club in a cohort of whispers and he promised a few favors for knowing how to find it. Once he's through the doors, it could be some club in D.C. or Richmond, Charlotte or Baltimore. New York. It could be anywhere but where he is, and he likes that part best.

He finds a leftover pill in his pocket and it disappears onto his tongue. If he's gonna be here, there's no fucking way he's spending the entirety of his first day sober.

"Put your name in for a random match?" Someone asks him. Kavinsky grins, manic and loose.

"Sure, why the fuck not? And point me in the direction of the bar, huh?"

Adam's only passing through, eager to get past the tour group of unfortunate new arrivals, when one particular voice rises above the murmur of the crowd and catches his attention. He freezes, unsure of his senses, uncertain he can trust his ear to interpret living voices instead of dead ones. But when he turns to look back, his eyes land on Joseph Kavinsky. Not a wavering vision, but his very solid (and alive) former classmate, right there.

It's interesting, in that it confirms what Adam had heard about the passage of time in this place. But Kavinsky isn't someone he has any interest in speaking to, so he turns away, hoping to make a hasty departure before Kavinsky can recognize him.

Most of the color washed out of Arthur's face the second he's stripped, sheared (they cut off his beard!) and damn near scrubbed down to the bone marrow. He had half a mind to clock one of those overzealous creeps but he doesn't get the chance. It happens too fast like a whirlwind. One minute he's there, the next he's whisked away elsewhere. Arthur doesn't even get the damn chance to process what's going on, nevertheless think of how he ended up here. However, he certainly remembers something about a door and he has a sinking feeling he messed up by walking through.

He listened a little here and there to the slithers of information given but all he cared about is Delilah, his horse. So cue in Arthur here receiving the dirtiest of looks from the locals as he strolls on by with his dear fox trotter in tow. He feels a little better now that he has Delilah by the reins again but not by much. Arthur is about half a lifetime away from all he once knew and then some. Without Dutch, Hosea and the rest of the gang, he's like a fish out of water.]

She almost scans over the other woman completely, the all black outfit was enough to hide her in the shadows of the buildings. ( Peter's tour of Duplicity is ... kind of uncomfortable, to say the least. At seventeen years old (and raised by a single parent) he realises he might not be the most worldly of candidates for the place— let alone a Dominant— but he hadn't expected to be quite so much of a fish out of water as he seems to have ended up.

The whole kink lifestyle thing? Boy-oh-boy has that been eye-opening. The worst of it is that at times he doesn't really know where he's supposed to look: just when he thinks he's slipping into a vaguely familiar environment he'll see a person being used as a table, or a Submissive politely asking permission to purchase some boring, necessary item, and he finds himself floundering again as he tries to paddle his way through the current.

All in all it's pretty exhausting, and by the time the tour reaches its final loop he's ready to leave the train and get a little air. [ The train dings; the doors swoosh open and a fresh crowd of Dominants and Submissives stroll in to take their seats. Among most of the humans is a delicate man - he looks only to clear five feet and he's fair-skinned, wearing a light turquoise dress that reaches his knees and white stockings. His long silver hair is loose, a braid of his hair arranged to look almost like a headband.

His wings are white and feathered, not unlike Reyson's.

He frowns sharply when he's shoved forwards by someone rude, but he doesn't make a fuss, simply instead choosing to take a few steps forwards, glancing in the opposite direction. It's not until he sees no seats on that side that he turns to look towards Reyson's side and he stops, eyes widening briefly.

He doesn't look familiar, he can't be an Aurain, but those wings... they're... ]

Excuse me. May I sit beside you?

[Alright. WELL. That sure was a fucking thing that happened. Winnie can... Sort of understand what's happened but not... Not really. She understands all that they're saying, to a point, but she doesn't quite understand why. Like. Why her? She had things to do, dammit!

She stands to the side, hands folded in front of her. She's wearing a full Victorian-style dress, all prim and proper, and she watches. She watches the people milling about, the new arrivals and old hats alike, and looks perfectly pleasant and nice!

...Except, every once in a while, there's strange... flatness to her eyes. They grow dead and cold, their gaze more like some detached scientist watching the scurrying of insects they're studying. A vague sort of interest, but ultimately one could be crushed and she'd just be like, vaguely disappointed before moving on.

But then the light is back as quickly as it came. maybe you just imagined it?

Either way, Winnie begins to muse aloud, tapping at her chin thoughtfully. When she speaks, she has a clearly British accent]

You know, I dare say I've never had to deal with a situation quite like this, nor has it really been talked about in any of the stories I've read. I mean, sure, kidnappings that's common! There's a protocol! But this seems a bit beyond just a normal kidnapping.

It seems a little late to start crying. Perhaps I should faint? That would be an appropriate response, no? [She looks down at the floor and then the surrounding area with a long, thoughtful "hmmm" noise, as if seriously considering it before looking up to whoever the poor soul is who's been overhearing her] I don't suppose you see a nice fainting couch around, do you? I don't particularly want to fall on the floor, you see. My dress might get dirty and I quite like this dress.

[Despite being new, despite going through the Orientation and learning about the strange, horrible new world they've been thrust into, Winnie looks like she's dealing with it remarkably well, all things considered. Her smile is bright and cheery, she practically has a bounce in her step as she flits from place to place, pressing her face against the windows to see out at the passing scenery.]

My word, isn't this marvelous? Everything is so-- Futuristic! [She grins and looks around, taking note of the more blatantly obvious displays of Submissive/Dominant behaviors and she laughs in delight] And no shame whatsoever!

[Well, Winnie's always up for balancing the scales. She's someone who very much likes things to be fair--an eye for an eye, you know? But that's not strictly why she's here in this club thing. She just wanted to check it out, though her outfit (an Edwardian-style white dress) doesn't quite scream "clubbing."

Not that she has any idea what "clubbing" is or anything like that, but look. She's here to have a good time and she's having fun, that's what matters right?

LIES TRAVEL IN COMPANY

Eric has spent the last three years isolated from the rest of civilization. His parents' bit of land by the sea is peaceful. He's spent his time recovering emotionally and physically while rebuilding what Ellie and White Bones once had. Thankfully he has the company he needs from Shell's constant visits, but it was still a lonely day-to-day.

Now he's on this bus, surrounded by all sorts of people, and he barely knows what to do with himself because of it. His hands are balled up into fists on his knees as he sits. His body language shows a contained excitement or anxiety as he looks around him and out of the windows. He wonders if they expect him to kneel even though he doesn't have an assigned master yet. Probably not.

He reaches up and pushes some of his black hair from his face, exposing more of the scars that jet down from his forehead to below one of his eyes. Three lines that hint to an old injury that will never completely fade.

One day he'll think about the irony of being forced from one underclass of people to another, but for now he's mostly overwhelmed by how many people there are around him. That doesn't make him unfriendly, though. When one of those who boarded at a stop trips as the bus lunges forward he instinctively reaches out to catch them.

"Are you alright?" he asks, voice gentle and concerned.

Anyone who saw the tense young man on the bus would be shocked to see the difference in Eric's body language when he discovers Autonomy. Whereas before he had been tight with anxiety and excitement, now he seems almost a little too at ease.

Something about the freedom of not having to be the thing the mark on his neck says he should be sets a part of him loose. There's an aura around him that speaks to confidence and command. He might bear the mark, but there is nothing submissive about him now.

He's at the bar nursing a drink and observing the room. He's curious about other people around but in a quiet observant sort of way. It's interesting to see how they act when they aren't under the strict rules of this world.

It's interesting to be around so many once again. He realizes how much he had missed it. Even if his life as One had been a life filled with concern that he would be found out, it had still been one with friends and colleagues. He's starting to realize he could have that again here.

That's what prompts him to enter his name into the lottery. A chance to meet someone new. Finally the message comes and he turns his attention away from the crowd to read the name displayed.

Humpty Dumpty generally considers himself to be more coordinated than to allow himself to be caught being clumsy in public, but for whatever reason his mind and footing both betray him today and nearly send the Art stumbling to the ground. But the impact never comes, and instead he finds himself secured by a strong arm that steadies his balance and allows him to right himself. Out of both training and a genuine desire to be polite he turns to thank the good samaritan, only for the words to die on his tongue.

For just a moment he sees brown eyes instead of blue, the face shifting only slightly in shape within his mind to become that of a man who he both loved and hated. But as quickly as ever the confusion fades and the reality of just who this actually is sinks in.

All at once the albino's demeanor shifts just a degree colder as he dexterously slips out of the man's hold, putting a small amount of distance between them like a serpent poising to strike. Even though he smiles the expression does not reach his mismatched eyes at all.

I. Riddler's Square
The tour makes one thing clear, anyway: he won't be living here in the Up. Ronan isn't sure what that means, exactly, or what really awaits him in the Down. Seems kind of fucked up, actually, dragging them all around and then telling a handful of people to get a move on at the end.

He lingers, sitting on a bench. What are they gonna do, tase him? Kick him out? Throw him down an elevator shaft? Ronan rubs his hands over his hair and the only thing that makes this moment bearable is the raven that is currently tucked into his hoodie. He should find something to feed her soon and he's not above dumpster diving to do it. Chainsaw won't care.

She croaks and he unzips his hoodie more so he can look at her.

"Yeah, me too."

II. Discord and Autonomy
Down sucks.

A line down his throat has put him down here. It feels arbitrary, unfair, and not the first system he's wanted to rebel against.

There's parts that might be okay, but the consensus seems to be that Down Sucks and he can't tell if that's some message that's just drilled in by the existing hierarchies or if it's the reality of the situation. It isn't much to look at after his tour of Up.

Either way, being in a place that boasts being neither Up nor Down provides a solid distraction. He worries about dreaming tonight. He's tempted to find ways to stay up in this weird, new place. Drinking won't help that, but maybe if he drinks enough he won't dream at all.

Someone approaches him, again, about putting his name in for a random draw.

"Just fuck off, man. I don't want any fucking company."

Ronan is distracted by the other guy. Kavinsky slides in next to him, too close, already smiling. He sets a drink down in front of him and adds to the murderous scowl that Ronan is already throwing to the other guy. [ with a cap over his obviously pink hair, fake glasses and a scarf covering the lower half of his face, tenn is kind of pulling out most of the stops he usually uses to blend in with the people on the train.

the only thing that seems to give away the fact that he's not as familiar as he seems to be is that his eyes are sharp, staring, lingering way longer on certain people than they should, long enough that it's piercing, almost, even without making eye contact. but on the off-chance that he's been caught staring, looking a little bit too hard in places that he shouldn't be, there's a slight crinkle to the hard edges of tenn's eyes, the way he lifts his chin slightly, pulls down his scarf to at least show that he's smiling, to acknowledge that he's been caught staring.

Well, first of all Gaku was a little surprised to see the name pop up. When the details followed, he could confirm it was, in fact, the very Tenn he knows. And now he's about to burst out laughing in the middle of the club. He does manage to stifle it to little more than a chuckle, and it's quelled entirely when Tenn approaches. No need for introductions. He smiles, and it's touched with amusement and sarcasm.]

[ Allowing others bundled up against the weather to board to the train before she does, Ysayle pauses to look at the station ceiling again, then at the train coaches themselves. If it is supposed to be cold, this woman appears unaffected by the local chill. Indeed, her pale complexion, eyes and lips are a near-match for the icy clime.

Ysayle has seen airships before, both Ishgardian and Garlean; her own followers had helped sabotage the former on occasion, and as for the latter..

Nothing like this, however. All of this technology is beyond her ken. Yet another element to set her teeth on edge in the midst of strangeness.

When she finally steps aboard, Ysayle makes a point to take up residence alone by one of the windows. All the better to view the mark forced on her in her reflection, fingers occasionally lifting to press against the long black line. The orientation had not helped set her at ease at all, either, and she cannot help but frown as one of the contract 'couples' employed to demonstrate what was considered acceptable behaviour walk past her.

Only once they're gone does she look around to get a better view of her fellow passengers. Is everyone on board here really okay with this..? ]


II. >> SUB SICKNESS

[ Being so new has lent Ysayle at least temporary immunity from such attention: her own mark has become more of a burgeoning purple lately, while she familiarises herself with the situation. Yet learning more of how the Up and Down co-exist (hah!) had simply served to remind her of the divide between noble and commoner in Ishgard - those nesting high in the Pillars having control over the lives of those sheltered in the Brume.

Contract or no contract - is this life really that different?

It is in the midst of being politely, but firmly, turned away by a fruit vendor who will not sell his wares to an unpartnered sub that Ysayle gets partial confirmation of her assumption: she pays witness to the manhandling of those who's disobedience have made them "unacceptable". There's a yell that catches her attention, and soon the sight of three distinctly different people, mark colours unclear (at least from her current angle), are being herded to the exit elevators in no small amount of haste, shoved and shunned, until they're trapped inside. It's unpleasant. It's cruel.

And the way others turn their eyes away is simply unacceptable.

Almost immediately, heedless of whether such a thing is appropriate in Duplicity or how it might affect her own mark, Ysayle begins to move in that direction. Her icy expression heralds her own intent - that of intervention for those under siege.

[ How can anyone call this cacophonous mess of sound music?

That much Ysayle is able to register over the constant pulse she can feel in her bones, an unknown beverage shaded a brilliant orange held in one hand and a smaller ticker-pager device clasped tight in the other.

Curiousity demanded she enter the lottery, but that did not mean she had to follow through if she were granted an assignment. Mindful of her burden, the elezen maiden slips through the crowd with ease; everyone stands out here, meaning she doesn't at all, and she plans to make the most of it as much as everyone else does. Mindful not to touch as she goes, however-- She cannot even be sure that Mother Hydaelyn's gifts work here, after all, but better not risk it in a place like this.

When chance allows, she takes advantage of a balcony perch, all the better to watch those below-- or tries to. ]

[ they say that the best way to observe society is getting right into the thick of things. this strange club is probably the best way to do so, isn't it? especially with all of the manhandling going around, percy decides he'd rather stay out of sight of it, at least for now - especially when the line down his throat is a gray color that makes him cringe just a bit in his reflection. covered up with his ascot, however, he can pretend it doesn't exist at least for the moment.

the balcony offers some fresh air at least, which percy takes to gladly, his coat draped over the edge of it and his elbows leaned on its rail, staring out at the expanse of the city. he'd consider the sheer size of it marvelous in some respects if only it wasn't burned with a somewhat... unfortunate layout (something he'll just have to get used to).

he's glancing down at his hands when he hears someone at his left and he turns. ] Hm? Oh. No, not at all. Help yourself... [ plenty of space for two. they certainly look quite the pair at least, he realizes as he notes her pale hair in the cold city light. ]
